It was way too early in the morning.

"BOSS." There was a heavy, thunking, repetitive knocking at the door. "BOSSSSSSSSSSSSS. BOSS. HEY BOSS." Thunk thunk thunk.
PostPosted: Sat Dec 03, 2011 11:37 pm

There was no way to mistake the voice and the knocking for anyone other than Robert. Jordan peeled an eye open and peered at the clock. ... Early. Why? But Robert was among the small group of people for whom Jordan would get up at any hour, no matter what. "I'm up," he groaned, and crawled out of bed to cross the room and open the door, thoroughly rumpled, bleary, and in his pajamas. "What the heck, man," he said plaintively.

Robert stood there, looking tired, but excited.

Then he shoved a styrofoam cup with a straight arm to hold out right in front of Jordan.

"Nice shirt." Robert blurted out, trying not to hop from one foot to another. "Morning boss. I brought you coffee let's go to the kitchen there's cookies boss there's cookies."

If someone could please locate Robert and put him back into the giant's body that stood at Jordan's door, so that he would stop being possessed by the spirit of a 10 year old child, that would be great, thanks.

All was forgiven. Immediately. Jordan took the cup of coffee with a sleepily grateful look. "You're the best," he informed Robert, and took a sip. First cup of the morning, even terrible cafeteria coffee, was enough to induce blissface. "Cookies, huh?" he said a few moments later, now that he'd had a moment to process.

He debated digging his shoes out from under his bed, then decided that that was too much effort and just slipped out into the hall in sock feet, closing the door behind him. "Lead the way," he said. "Slowly, please. Still not quite awake."

Robert was almost about to break into a trot, and literally froze in mid giant-step when he heard the word Slowly stop him in his tracks. Jordan only saw him from behind, but the Charlie Brownesque slump was visible even there, and he slowed down to walk by Jordan's side.

"Okay, okay." He relented, taking smaller steps to keep in time. "I'm so excited. I heard these are like the best cookies. Do you know how long it's been since I've had Christmas cookies? Like, a year. A whole damn year, boss. It's like, it's like those Cadbury eggs. You know how long it's been since I had one of those? They only have them on Easter, man, I really don't know why."

It almost seemed like he'd already HAD his daily intake of sugar for the day.

"The chocolate's terrible, but the sugar stuff inside is like crack," Jordan agreed. "I guess they'd get kinda old if they were available all the time, though." Coffee. Precious, precious coffee. He could feel the gears in his brain starting to engage properly now.

"I hope the cookies are better than most of the stuff they serve in the cafeteria. Maybe someone who actually knows how to cook got into the kitchen," he mused. "That'd be awesome. Cross your fingers, right?"

Robert slowed. "Wait.. you think.. they might not be the most delicious cookies in the world?"

Robert had not, for one second, doubted the information that had been passed down from hunter, to hunter, to hunter, and probably started as a terrible rumor by Clarice. Or maybe Clarice had just paid someone to tell him this in the first place. Oh, no.

Robert looked crushed.

"I didn't say that," Jordan said hastily. Robert's kicked-puppy expression was way too effective. "I mean, uh." Think fast. "If rumor says they're actually good, they probably are. Have you ever heard anyone saying anything good about the other cafeteria food? Good stuff would be unusual enough to cause talk, right?"

CLINCHED. Robert lit up brightly, bringing one fist up in victory. "That's right, boss. If the word is good, then chances are they are everything I ever hoped for."

WHY WAS ROBERT HOPING FOR CHRISTMAS COOKIES SO HARD.

They arrived at the kitchens, and Robert hesitated. Before he opened the door, he turned around, and gave Jordan a genuinely happy smile.

"Thanks, boss. You always know just what to say."

Jordan chuckled and patted Robert's shoulder. Hey, after months of cafeteria food, who wouldn't be a bit excited about fresh, delicious holiday cookies? And Robert being, well, Robert, had gotten over-enthusiastic. Not a huge surprise, other than the part about it being a**-o-clock A.M.

He couldn't help grinning back. "Thanks," he answered, and followed Robert into the kitchen.

"COOKIES~" Robert's voice held a lovely note as he bashed the door in, storming in with wide strides and looking around.

They were sitting on a table, lovely and glowing and wispy with heat tendrils fluttering up into the air and the smell-

Robert spun around and promptly swooned. No one had ever seen Robert swoon in this entire facility, and hopefully, no one ever would.

"Christmas cookies." Robert sighed out happily. "This place ain't gonna be so bad, after all."
PostPosted: Sun Dec 04, 2011 12:38 am

"Okay, that looks promising," Jordan said. The cookies looked suspiciously well-made; someone had actually put effort into baking. Huh. He glanced around, looking for the person responsible; whoever it was, they weren't currently visible. He debated with himself. Hang around and wait for the mysterious baking ninja to return? Or ... cookies?

The smell of fresh cookies was irresistible. "Grab a plate, we can take some back to my room," he suggested. Cookie pilfering: probably somewhat rude, but nobody had to know, right?

"Okay boss."

Robert looked for the biggest plate he could find, and then he began piling up cookie after cookie onto the plate. When he was done, he had put all of the cookies left on the table, onto his plate.

He looked at his plate, then the empty table plate, and made a thoughtful face.

Then he took one cookie off of his plate, set it on the table, and picked up his heavy cookie plate.

"Ready, let's go."

One single cookie.

Jordan stared at it for a moment, then gave in to the laughter. Clearly Robert was a bad influence. Still snickering, he headed back out of the kitchen, shaking his head.

Robert had no idea what Jordan was laughing about, and his dumb, vague look said as much. When they walked through the door with all the cookies, he reached up carefully and plucked the top of the mound off, handing Jordan one cookie.

"What's so funny, boss?" He murmured, before bending in and getting a whiff of the cookies with a long, over-dramatic sniff.
