 Having actually wandered away from her family for a day, the nearly blind lioness poked her way around the vast plains, learning to fend for herself as her mother had done so many years. Vuxta was her idol, and since Vashti had inherited her mother's genetics and developed glaucoma, she had wondered if she would ever really be able to do anything fully on her own. Not that she blamed her mother, but some days it depressed her more than most. But today was different. She wasn't happy, she wasn't sad, she was simply.... determined. So as she felt her way along the ground using her paws, she puffed out her chest and toddled away, not aware that the green blur she saw before her wasn't a bush...but rather a lion.

 Sokea had been watching this strange lioness for a while. He could tell she was blind, as his sight was fine close up, but the lion in denial failed to realize he was also blind. Tilting his head curiously as he munched on what was left of this mornings meal, he slurped up a long bloody tendril, licked his lips and crossed his paws. After a few moments of nothing but silence, he let out a roar like yawn, which without meaning too, startled the lioness. "Oops... sorry.... uh....need a little help?" he tilted his head in wonder. She was pretty. Really pretty. Maybe he'd score a date? Maybe not, he didn't want blind cubs. That would a real pisser. His brows furrowed a bit as he waited for her to calm down and give him an answer, and so he slurped up a bit more of his meal.

At the sound of a rather loud roar, the lioness leaped into the air and nearly out of her skin. Flicking her head around rapidly, she tried to pin point the sound of the voice. "Who are you?! Where are you?!" she roared, her fur raised in defense. It wasn't until a few seconds had passed that she realized, the green blur of a bush....was actually moving and....eating? Her nose twitched to the smell of a fresh kill as she squinted her eyes and blinked rapidly. As she did so, a little bit more of the blur became clear, clear enough anyways to realize that it was in fact a lion. "Oh...heavens....?" she exclaimed, a bit taken back as she lowered her head. "Forgive me I thought..... I thought...." she stuttered shyly and looked down at her paws. "I thought you were a bush." she admitted, her cheeks flushing with heat. "I can't see very well.... though I'm sure you noticed." she sighed, her ears drooping.

Sokea rolled his eyes but he couldn't help but half smile. "Right, right I'm a talkin bush!" he chuckled, though more so at her and her actions. She was a cute one alright, if not a bit air headed. He sensed a bit of daintiness in her as well as she began wiping off her paws. "Yeah I got that toots, but uh... you didn't answer my question. Do you need help?" he said as he shook himself to rid his coat of dirt and dust and stood up on powerful paws as he gazed behind her at the vast plains, failing to see the mountains in the distance, not that the lion in denial even knew they were there. If only he knew he was blind as well, he might not have been making so much fun of her in his head. "Soooo...yeah, names Sokea. What's yours toots?"

Anger boiled up in Vashti's stomach. She could feel his mocking gaze on her, even if she couldn't actually see it, but she kept herself calm and collected. "Pleasure to meet you Sokea. And no thank you, I wish to make it to the watering hole on my own today." she said as she flexed her toes in and out of the loose sand, scratching the soil with her claws. "Mother is fully blind and she can do it. I am fortunate enough to see blurs of color so I think I'll be just fine." she said in confidence, lifting her head up high as if she were some sort of royalty. Somehow by the bored feeling in the males attitude, she didn't think her courage was having any effects of admiration on him. He was making her quite upset she had been born with the same curse. And to think today was supposed to be a triumphant day. "Well, if thats all, then I must be going." she said and bid him a due.

Sokea chuckled. "Hey now easy toots, I don't mean anything bad by it." he said as he licked a paw and swiped it over his mane. "But look sweets, If your lookin for the watering hole, I'm afraid your going the wrong way darlin." he said as he took a few steps closer to her, his head easily towering over hers as he lowered his muzzle to give her a soft nudge in the side, positioning her in the right direction. "Its that way, just past that crooked tree over there. You weren't far off, but if you would have kept going in this direction, you would have found yourself in the home of some rather nasty hyenas." he grinned as he flicked his tail, remembering his first mistake of having a run in with them. "Not very pleasant lot they are. I'd advise you steer clear of them at all times sweets." he said as he let loose another yawn, then tilted his head and looked her over from head to toe.

Vashti was taken by surprise as he began to move her around and shove his nose where it didn't belong. She uttered a few shocked gasps. "What....do you think your doing?!" she hissed and snapped at him. "Mom has always told me since I was little, follow the backs of the mountains, past the curved bush bank, and just beyond the crooked tre....eee......" she said, her sentence fading out as she squinted her eyes and noticed the familiar crooked blur and the pale brown of the mountains as they came into view. Her ears and heart sank as she realized she had been going the wrong way. For some reason today, the mountains were even more blurry as usual and the thick clouds of dirt from the western regions tricked her mind. She had been confused and almost turned around. If it wasn't for this cocky green fellow.....she might have found herself in a situation where she wouldn't be returning home. "I..... I...." she stuttered, feeling utterly defeated. "Thank you......" she sighed as she pawed at the ground. "I can't think of how to repay you." she said softly as she glanced up at him.

Sokea smiled and rolled his eyes. She really was helpless, he almost felt bad. Half of him wanted to accompany her to the watering hole, but he still had a meal to finish. "Hey hey don't cry toots, its ok. It happens sometimes, its cool really." he said softly trying to cheer her up, if only so she'd smile again. She was cute when she smiled. "Now go on, your headed in the right direction. If you just keep straight, you'll end up right in the middle of the watering hole toots!" he chuckled and gave her a soft nudge on the rump. "Go on. You set out to prove yourself today didn't you? Well you can still do it. It's not like I really actually did anything buuuuuut maybe...... point you in the right direction." he said with a laugh as he shook out his black fluffy mane. "Go on then sweetness. I have faith in ya." he smiled and winked at her....not that she could see it.

Vashti smiled and thanked him again as she set back off on her journey. "He's right." she told herself as she nosed her way along. "I can still do this!" she smiled and puffed her chest out with pride again. Moving her paws over the earth, she flexed her toes and kept her eyes squinted and focused upon the crooked tree. She could already smell the water and hear its trickling sounds as creatures lapped up its sweet goodness. And boy would she have a story to tell mom....an embarrassing one....but a story none the less.

As she was walking off, he wrinkled his nose and tilted his head. "Weirdo. Follow the backs of the mountains? Pfffff. There are no mountains." he rolled his eyes at the expanse of blue sky in the distance, unaware that he couldn't see the large looming brown tips of the mountains just before his face. "Bah, women." he snorted and flopped back down to finish his meal.
