Marcus had felt kind of..bad for the whole incident. The night that John Windwalker and his merry men took up the mantle of ‘gophers’ and were played like finely tune puppets for the sake of one weird moon hunter. Foolishly they had gone on the mission without the foresight to bring money and had sadly been reduced to stealing the merchandise. The merchandise being maxi pads. At Julia’s request. To be dropped off at Caelius’s room. While they had managed to complete the mission they had been all but royally ******** in the a** socially. True, Marcus had gotten a promotion, but did it really matter> he was known known as ‘John Windwalker’ and ‘Feminine Product fetch boy’. It was not what he wanted to be known as, or known for.
Caelius probably thought he had some kind of bleeding v****a.
The worst part of the whole ordeal was the fact that He’d take two good men into the dark abyss with him. Leon and Jordan, who really didn’t deserve the crap in Marcus’s opinion. It was just mid afternoon when he figured it was as good a time as any to go apologize for the mess he’d gotten the other hunter into for his sake.

It was just teasing. Keeping that firmly in mind, Jordan had been dealing with the embarrassing nicknames and occasional jibes with an amiable eyeroll and the occasional rude gesture - and, when the irritation got to be too much, taking himself off to the training courses or to the gym to take it out on the practice dummies. Getting visibly upset over it would make him more of a target. Staying calm would help it blow over faster.
He sort of hoped that Julie would select another victim or two to play with fairly soon, so the general population would have something else to gossip about.
He'd been busy beating up one of the dummies this afternoon. It wasn't as satisfying as crushing shadowlings or facing off against an actual opponent, but on the other hand, dummies couldn't dodge. He felt better for the exercise, at any rate, and now that he'd showered and changed, he fully intended to see if the cafeteria had any pastries that were neither questionable nor mind-altering. ... If nothing else, there would be coffee.

Soon, they would be free of public mockery, (after all, hunters were equal opportunity jerks it seemed), and some other poor sap would have their turn at being the butt of many a joke. Right now though- grin and bear it. Jordan was finally spotted and Marcus just had to say something. If he didn't well- that was just slightly rude wasn't it. He'd dragged him into it after all.
"Jordan. Hey." Marcus gave a small wave at the trainee, (hopefully soon to be promoted himself). Walking up the now intermediate hunter gave a pathetic excuse for a smile. "I hope you're not pissed about the uh" The torment. "That mission. I ended up getting a promotion a few days later. But uh-" They had agreed not to talk about it. Damn it. "Sorry you and Leon got kind of dragged down with me."

"Marcus, hey." Jordan nodded to the other man. "Not your fault," he shrugged. "Not like you knew that was going to be a prank. You didn't, right?" He raised an eyebrow. They'd agreed never to talk about it, yes, and he didn't blame Marcus for the resulting embarrassment, but actually getting an apology - that was really decent of the guy.
"Congrats on the promotion," he added.

It was to say the least, not something he wanted to repeat. "No idea, it was sprung on me at 4 am and that was it to how much I knew before hand. Don't refuse high ups. Next time? I am asking a hell of a lot more questions. And avoiding that room." Never going to the third floor again. Not for anything.
"And thanks. I guess I get a slightly better pay and a nicer coat, but other than that I still get sent on s**t missions. But, I suppose half of the ones we're going to get will be the bottom rung stuff. Nothing too good." A shrug of apathy. "I'll take what I can get though. How about you? You haven't had to do anything too bad yet have you?"

"Yeah, they say mission, and we jump." Jordan shrugged philosophically. "I expect that as we get more experienced and go up the chain a bit the hazing will die down some." It did seem that a certain degree of crazy was to be expected in older, higher-ranked hunters, but he theorized that by the time the Strays got there themselves, they'd probably have their own crazy to some extent. It was a theory he mostly kept to himself, so as not to alarm anyone.
"No, nothing else too weird," he said. "That probably won't last forever, but hey, could be worse. It's a change of pace to get sent out to do stuff, anyway."

The missions were required and no doubt they would have more coming just like the others. (Hopefully with less dead bodies). "The hazing seems to go even towards the assistants. I mean. Dr. H and Clarice? Could just be him being a d**k but, can't imagine it's fun." The poor gal.
"Anyway, Think you'll be up for a promotion soon? Can't image you'll be a trainee for very long."

"I guess that's how he entertains himself." Jordan paused. "Ugh. I just creeped myself out. I think I'll stop thinking about that now. I imagine she could cause some serious pain if she really felt like it, though."
"No idea, really. I haven't gotten word, and I feel like it wouldn't be too wise to ask." He shrugged again. "We'll keep training and working and get there when we get there. Can't say I'm not hoping it's soon, but if I'm thinking about that, it'll end up distracting me from what I'm doing now. You know?"

Marcus shuddered at the idea of it being the 'entertainment'. Did say a bit about the island though. "Well, she didn't get to to be his assistant by being a pushover. Probably a lot tougher than she looks." In his head Dis was spewing suggestions. Most of them along the lines of asking stupid questions. Like if Jordan had tried to sleep his way up.
Dis, keeping it classy.
"I'm sure you'll get promoted soon. I mean, I got promoted, that mean pretty much anyone can do it." He thought that highly of his skills. "But I get what you're saying. If you like we can do some sparring, keep you on your toes."

Jordan nodded. "Takes a certain level of courage, I guess. Or stubbornness. Or both." He hadn't seen a lot of Clarice, but whenever he had, she'd been brisk, competent, and commanding; he quietly admired that.
"Heh, thanks." He grinned. "That would be awesome. I like the training courses, but it's not the same as a one-on-one. Just ping me a text, or I'll text you when I've got an afternoon open."
