Being a kitten sucked, Peter decided as he snuck out of his brother's fire escape window while he was in class. First he missed Thanksgiving, and he'd been really looking forward to eating as much as he could... as a human. But even worse! He'd missed out on his eleventh birthday.

He wasn't really sure where he was going. It was only a little after noon, so he knew he didn't have to get home so his brother wouldn't freak out, but he also wanted to figure out something to do!

But seriously. Being a kitten sucked. All he seemed to want to do these days was sleep, eat, and sink his claws into things to scratch up. And it wasn't as though he could go out and have a conversation with anyone! No. He had to be some strange, talking cat who wasn't even allowed to talk to strangers. Well, okay, that was probably a smart idea... not to talk to strangers and all that. That didn't make it any less boring, though.

If anything good came from being a kitten though, it was being able to explore parts of the city that Peter never knew existed. Granted, he was pretty sheltered and kept with supervision at... most times... so he didn't see all he wanted. But now? It was as though a whole new world was open to him!

The strong scent of clean fabric caught his attention as he turned the corner of an alley, and he made sure there were no people wandering around before exploring.

It wasn't difficult to realize that the scent was coming from a dingy little place that was filled with what looked like laundry machines and dryers. But not just any laundry machines and dryers... but ancient ones. Seriously, they had to be at least older than he was!

Which made him remember how he'd missed his birthday...

Still, the kitten slowly made his way in through the open door, glancing around for any people who might spoil his fun. There was an old woman asleep in a chair, but other than that, it seemed as though the place was empty... The floor was covered in lint, but otherwise empty.
