If anyone could actually believe it, considering all that kept happening with those Jack damned humans, there was one overly happy and excited she-wolf lurking the halls of the monster dorms. As was her usual, LW had gone out for her morning run with faithful hazmutt at her side. They'd ventured further into the woods that morning, wanting to change up their route just a little. And it happened to be, while the two canines were goofing off and chasing one another around, LW quite literally tripped over the most adorable and amazing thing ever!
Which was also the source of her current hyper and exuberant attitude. And all the baby sounds she'd been making.
"Yes, aren't you just a lil' adorable bundle of fur and loving kisses." She scratched the wolf-like creatures tummy for the ump-teenth time, tail curled around it like a U-shaped pillow. "D'awww, thank you, little one." LW giggled at receiving even more puppy kisses.
"I know!" The she-wolf suddenly brightened even more, if possible. At this rate, she would probably be glowing like a mini sun before her thought was even finished. "I should go show you to your new care-taker. He'll love you!" LW was positive her gryphon boilfriend would adore the wolf like minipet.
Decision made, LW scooped up the little bundle of fluffy brown adorable. She lowered her head to its, rubbing noses and grinning hugely at the small yapping sounds it made. And the tail wagging. And puppy nips. And...oh Jack if she didn't start moving now she was going to wind up back on the floor playing with the minipet instead of taking her special gift to her special someone. With a groan (or something like that anyways), LW exited her room and pranced towards the stairs down the hall, which would take her up one level. Then it was down the hall one floor up and over to the door that was directly above her own.
"Reeeeeen!" LW slipped right in unannounced (not something uncommon in the slightest) not even having room in her current mind frame of 'EEEEEE SO CUTE OH MY JACK! to wonder if Ren was awake or not. Oh well, he would be now!
"Ren! Guess what?!" The she-wolf danced over to stand in the middle of his room with that sunshine filled smile. "I HAVE PUPPIES!" She blurted without any preamble. Or any thought on if that might not be the right phrasing to use. But...puppy!

While LW was slowly getting back to her old self, Ren was in his room, pacing back and forth and thinking of not just his ghoulfriend, but everyone else who he was close to.
It had been Vaith talking about drowning himself that had snapped Ren out of his panicked mindset - that, and the fact that the boil had recoiled, almost hitting Ren out of sheer paranoia and surprise. The look on his oldest friend's face had been horrible, but...it had done something, at least to help push Ren one step further.
It wasn't very big of a step. Ren had unintentionally sunken into a fit of hardly speaking at all. Most of the time he felt like Jove, except every once in a while he would speak - and mostly only to LW, rather than anyone else. He did not understand why he was having such difficulty speaking aloud anymore, but something told him it had something to do with the fact that he had died more than once - had died several times, and had been filled with such agony that it had been burned into his mind.
Almost literally.
But though the nightmares were still there, the sleeplessness as prominent as always, Ren was not so deep into his depression as he had been the last time. The only thing that was keeping him under was the lack of speech thing.
Rhys was sitting on the bed, watching his master with cool blue eyes, carefully scrutinizing Ren as he walked back and forth, his long hair tumbling over his shoulders.
"RENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN"
He nearly ran into the bedpost, LW's voice startling out of his thoughts. The shewolf came bursting into the room, Ren lifting his head to give her a warm smile -
"I HAVE PUPPIES!"
This time Ren really did run into the bedpost.
"Wh..."
He gaped at his ghoulfriend. Then tried to sit down on his bed, except he missed and clattered unceremoniously to the ground with a loud crash.
"You - but we - I mean - we haven't - " he blurted out, face brilliant red, his mouth hanging open unattractively.
What the Jack was going on.

If only her mindset followed something similar to her boilfriend's in this instance, she might not be quite so confused by his reaction. Or rather she might have stopped to consider it a little more than blink owlishly at him and wonder if maybe she had woken him up. Because no, she had not seen him pacing when she entered. And there was Ren. On the ground. So, logically, he fell out of bed. Right?
Yeah right. LW had seen him smack into the bedpost. And miss his bed completely when he went to sit. She was just too giddy to do anything about it except burst with her excitement.
"PUPPIES! I have them. Adorable fluffy puppies." Her step was light and almost dance like as she moved to crouch in front of him. "Are you alright?" She asked, eying the amazing shade of red his face had turned. It was probably about the same shade as her hair. Her gaze flickered towards a familiar lepus, a small bit of confusion appearing in her features. Had he been this bad before she came over? Or had she made it worse? He's alright...right?
Tail swishing, LW cuddled the minipet in her arms - who was just staring with wide eyes and not sure what was going on, but yay for the cuddles! - and stared at him. "Have you not been sleeping?" Again. She didn't say it, but it hung in the air. "And we haven't....what?" The she-wolf gave him a curious look. And then, just as quickly as she had flitted into the room, she beamed at him again.
"I have puppies, Ren! And one of them is yours." Riiiiight. Next time, she wasn't allowed to have sugar before coming to give her boilfriend a minipet.

LW's expression was completely confused, as though she had not just run into her boilfriend's room shouting that she had puppies.
Puppies.
Puppies.
The word reverberated inside of Ren's mind, not really registering anything else other than that one word. He stared up at LW with wide eyes, his mouth agape, still lying in a heap on the ground, his wings spread and ruffled. Rhys, on the other hand, made a happy, exasperated note, and crawled into LW's arms, looking smug.
Ren's mouth opened and then closed abruptly.
No. I was hearing things. LW doesn't have - I mean - we haven't...we haven't ever done anything, it's impossible. She's just joking around, she really said something else. It's my mind - that's it. I'm still recovering from the incident.
Ren decided this was a very good explanation for this.
"Er," he said hoarsely, and reached for the glass of water on his bedside table, lifting it to his lips to take a sip. "Er. Yes. Fine. I mean. You - "
"I have puppies, Ren! And one of them is yours."
The water sprayed out across the floor, Ren choking and sputtering as he attempted to not hack up a lung. Eyes watering, he looked up at LW with a completely devastated expression.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN ONLY ONE OF THEM IS MINE?!"

A part of her was starting to breach through the over abundant amounts of excitement to worry about Ren. This was definitely not how she had thought he'd react to the minipet she held. Was there something that strange about it? Her violet gaze fell to the brown furball that rested it's head against her arm. Harmless. And adorable.
Speaking of adorable, LW very much welcomed the distraction from growing concern over her boilfriend in the form of his minipet. He just crawled right into her arms with the wolf minipet (of course he had to have a smug expression to!). She did love the little rascal, even if he had his devious moments. And judging by Rhys' expression, maybe she didn't need to worry too much?
"Ren..." Whatever thought she'd been attempting to complete flew right out the turkey's window. Being in a crouch, his sudden choking and sputtering and water spraying, LW leaned back in surprise only to fall on her butt.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN ONLY ONE OF THEM IS MINE?!"
Now it was her turn to find words hard at the moment. Definitely not the reaction she had expected. She supposed...if he wanted more than one, she could go back to that tree with a small den full of the minipets and get him another.
"I...if you...want more than one, I can...give you more." She got out in a not quite so hyper tone. "I-I mean, it would just require another run through the woods..." LW trailed off, clutching the two mini's she held as her tail curled around her legs. "Or..."
Very gently, LW released the wolf minipet and nudged it towards Ren. Rhys, however, she continued to cuddle with. He at least wasn't sputtering or acting out of the usual. "H-He's yours." She added in, feeling like she might have done something wrong and wasn't sure just what that was. Why the hell would Ren have such an...an overreaction over her giving him a puppy!
....a puppy.
Slowly, as the gears clicked and fit together, LW felt her cheeks steadily growing warm. Oh. OH JACK! He...he'd thought...? But they...she wouldn't do that! Well, not unless Ren wanted to. NowaitohJack. LW hunched down slightly, almost attempting to hide behind the lepus she held. Well that would sure explain his reaction. Very much so.
"You....! You thought that...that I....but we...Ren! I wouldn't do that without you!" And of course, once she said it her cheeks were scarlet and yes, she was hiding behind Rhys the best she possibly could.

The "WHAT DO YOU MEAN ONLY ONE IS MINE?!" had apparently confused the Jack out of LW, since she was giving him an expression that said something along the lines of What the Jack are you talking about.
This was followed by a very distinctly upset look, as though she could not quite understand what he was talking about.
"Wh - what run in the woods?!" Ren squeaked out, in a voice that was shrill and quite a bit higher than normal. His face had turned into a somewhat crestfallen expression that was mixed with confusion. He could not remember a run in the woods with LW, nor could he remember....er, doing anything.
Oh Jack he was losing his mind.
Either that or LW had -
No, Ren thought. No, LW would never do that to me, she's not the type -
OH JACK IT WAS TYBALT, WASN'T IT, I ALWAYS KNEW HE WAS SOMETHING BAD AND THAT HE HAD A THING FOR LW I'M GOING TO KILL HI -
Something nudged his leg - cold and wet. Ren's gaze flickered downwards, trying to figure out what it was, and found -
A puppy.
Oh.
His face scarlet, Ren's eyes moved to meet LW's - except she was hunkered down over a slightly squashed Rhys, her hair hiding her expression as she stammered out disjointed words. Ren pushed golden waves away from his warm face, pressing his fingers against the brilliant red of his own cheeks.
Then he started to laugh.
Reaching out, Ren's fingers found LW's chin, and he turned her face towards him, leaning over to kiss her soundly, a smile curving his lips upwards.
"You had me worried there for a moment," he said, when he pulled away, still laughing hard enough that there were tears in his eyes. The little puppy stood on its hind legs, front paws pressing against Ren's shirt, and he pulled it into his lap, looking down at it fondly.
"He is pretty cute."

What run in the woods? The usual run in the woods she did! Why was that such a surprise? Jack, she was apparently fighting a losing battle that she hadn't even been aware was initiated! Why would he...? I mean there is nothing wrong with running through the woods, right?
Oh thank Jack she'd finally fallen onto the same wavelength as her boilfriend. And boy, did she feel terrible for even making him think that!
At least the puppy likes him. She thought absently, still attempting to hide behind Rhys (she would totally make up the clutching and probably suffocating the lepus was going through later). At the moment though, all she was able to do was try to appear as small as possible while glancing between the strands of her hair towards Ren.
When he started to laugh, the she-wolf didn't know if she should be relieved or perhaps think about a trip to the infirmary or-
Fingers, gentle and warm as always, caught her chin and lifted her head up to look at him. And then he kissed and whatever nerve racking tension she'd gained flowed away to be replaced by the warm feeling Ren always brought her. She felt his smile and with that, she knew everything was fine and right again. No more miscommunication. Or heart attacks.
She gave Ren that special smile, the one that was just for him. Moving carefully, she shifted over to sit by his side and watch the minipet while she lightly scratched at the one in her arms.
"I'm sorry, dear heart. I didn't mean to worry you about....that." Her cheeks were still a little on the red side just thinking on it. "But I'm glad you like him!" She sighed and gave him that same smile. "Austin and I discovered them out in the woods while we went on our morning run. When I saw him...I immediately thought of you."

Ren put his face in his hands, attempting to keep himself from laughing - except clearly he had already failed in this, since his shoulders were shaking from mirth and he was slightly pink in the face, breathless as he reached out to pull his ghoulfriend into his lap, wrapping his arms around her waist. The little puppy scampered behind him, putting its paws up onto Ren's back and nosing into his hair experimentally.
"Love, you really need to learn how to word things so they're not quite so - " A pause. " - misunderstanding."
Resting his chin atop of LW's head, Ren absently rocked back and forth, still laughing. It felt good - he had not really given himself the time of day to actually feel as he once had, before everything had turned so contorted and confusing. The laughter felt invigorating, as though it were renewing him somehow.
"Next time, just say that, okay?" he said to LW, blowing a raspberry against the back of her head on a whim. Then he let go and reached around to pull the little puppy into LW's lap so that Ren could stick his chin on her shoulder and peer down at it curiously.
"What should I name it? Is it a boil or a ghoul?"

She couldn't help but smile at his laughing, feeling a little better about the whole thing. LW still felt really bad for making him think...yeah that. A small chuckle even escaped, Ren's laughter being contagious. But it wasn't until she was pulled into his lap that she really relaxed and smiled. Until he spoke anyways. In which she snorted at the understatement, leaning back into her boilfriend while trying to make herself smaller.
"I'm soooorry!" She flicked her tail over their feet, not letting Ren see the redness in her own cheeks. "I was just excited and wanted to bring the pup to you." And of course never thought on the fact that claiming she had 'puppies' could have other meanings.
There went her cheeks plus a little squirming. Followed by a little more squirming when he blew a raspberry against her head. It made her scrunch up to avoid another one.
"Fine, next time I will...try to remember to just say that." She promised. No guarantees though.
The puppy was placed in her lap, and LW had to smile at it. Really, the pup was adorable. She scratched under it's chin, letting it play (or chew) on her fingers. The she-wolf leaned back more comfortably into Ren's chest, resting her head against his.
"I don't know....what do you want to name it?" She paused. "Him. It's a little boil. Reminds me of a certain gryphon I know too." LW added with a grin.
