User ImageAs ever, after spending too much time without companionship, Senka was beginning to grow bored. The YMCA and their Amazonian counterpart had provided her with a surplus of amusement and a few more stories, too, while it had lasted. And of course, she had met an interesting wolf or two since then, but it had been days since she had spoken to anyone and the restlessness of an idle mind was beginning to set in again. She was far too curious a being, and her mind much too active, to be left to her own devices for any period of time. By her reckoning, she was past due for an encounter and she was determined that she have it.

As her ever-golden luck would have it, she stumbled across the fresh scent of another wolf not too long after she had reached her resolve. Her ears perked forward in interest before she followed the scent along the leaf-strewn forest floor. Eventually, her ruby eyes spotted a lone, pastel male in a clearing just ahead of her. Well. This should prove interesting.

The wide open roads that were left open for rogues like him were beginning to feel more and more crowded over the past few months, something that really bothered him. As much as he liked meeting others and getting to know them, he was far to shy to actually hold a conversation long enough with someone to get to know them. Thus he was left with the decision to be a rogue for the rest of his life, or so he thought. He hoped though that one day he would be welcomed into a pack that would mind his shy and almost reclusive nature or that he might grow out of his issues or maybe even both. Was that even possible? As he walked his legs felt tired and strained from days of walking with very little rest. He felt the need to get somewhere but he wasn't quite sure where it was they wanted him to go. Of course though he didn't fight the urge. After all, it was nice to travel.

Within minutes he found himself within a dense forest that had sadly lost most of it's leaves. When he found a spot that was deep enough within the forest to hopefully turn away most other wolves he let himself collapse onto the forest floor among the vast amount of leaves. His head laid gingerly on his front paws while the rest of his body was spread out. After he had gotten himself comfortable he found himself in the presence of a red eyed, gray coated female wolf who looked like she had a demeanor unlike his. He really hoped this wouldn't be the end of his journey today. Mustering up the little courage he could he lifted up his head a bit and spoke softly. "Hello traveler."

"Greetings," she replied politely enough, stopping a wolf-length from the male. From the tone of his voice, and even from his countenance, she would have thought him a shy wolf, perhaps not very confident. Then again, he was the first to speak, so perhaps he was not so shy. She smiled slightly. Of a certainty, she would soon find out.

"What brings one such as yourself to these parts? You look exhausted. Not running from anyone, are you?" She lightly teased, wondering how he would react. Would he be fun to play with? Could she rile him? Confuse him? Would he have any interesting stories that she could pry out of his maw?

One way or another, she was determined to get the most out of this encounter.

Oberon was surprised by how open this female was with him. She wasn't to close as he could reach out and touch her with his front paw but she was certainly a lot closer for his own personal comfort. However he managed to stay as he was. At her questions he found himself slightly tilting his head to one side in confusion. Did he really look that tired? Sure it had been some time since he had gotten some adequate rest but, was it enough to make him look as weak and frail as he really was?

"I--I'm just wandering." He managed to get out. He wasn't quite sure where he was going or what exactly he would do once he got there, he just hoped for the most part he would be alone. Although, he really didn't want to be alone. Mustering up a bit more courage with a bit of a gulp he continued. "I am not running from anyone." Per say. More of running from himself if anything. "May I ask the same questions of you?" Oberon asked, his head tilting back so that it was at a normal angle.

How serious he was, actually answering a question only meant to tease. Silly boy. Well, there was no harm in that. It would certainly be a change from some of the...less savory wolves she had run into on her travels. Certainly, it should be better for her health.

"You may, indeed," she said. "I am a storyteller, you see. Out to collect and spread tales new and old." There was more to it, of course, but she was not in the mood to discuss the nuances of her journey.

As he listened he felt himself ease up just a slight bit. So she wasn't inclined to be aggressive. At least not outright. Or so he hoped. With slightly less tensed look he nodded. "A storyteller. I have yet to cross paths with one." He said, hinting that until now he hadn't. How was he supposed to address her now? He wasn't one for conversation as he lived mostly as a hermit. But he felt that their meeting was not yet ready to end. Besides, he wanted to know more about her profession.

With a bit of uneasiness he sat down where he was. "You look well kept." He began. "H--Have you been in these lands for long?" Oberon finally managed to get out.

Well kept? Senka supposed that she could take care of herself well enough. Much better than some of the vagabonds that she had run across. Still, it was an odd thing to remark upon. Of a certainty, he was a strange male.

"I am, in fact, doing nothing more than passing through," she replied. "I have been traveling these past few months. Seeing the world."

She considered the other wolf. He still seemed nervous, but at least he was relaxed enough to sit down. He probably would not be running away at the first opportunity, then.

She sighed quietly to herself. He was still too timid. Teasing him too much would be no fun. She was not a bully, after all. Where was the fun in picking on someone who could hardly defend himself?

"Do your travels have a purpose, oh, wanderer?" Hmm...that would not do, either. "I am Senka, by the way. What is your name?"

He hadn't realized his comment about her being well kept could mean a number of things, especially to a female. Then again it further proved just how detached from normal society he was.

Oberon looked at her curiously. She seemed to have rejected her own question, deciding that the latter was more important. He found himself wondering. What was important about a name in the first place? Not that he minded sharing his, or hearing what her's was. But what was the meaning behind it? Something you could use to call someone else upon meeting them rather then not calling them anything? Hm. This was a question for a later time.

"My name is Oberon." He said, still looking at her curiously. He didn't quite get the feeling to run. But he wasn't completely content with this situation. "Senka...." Oberon repeated. It was fairly interesting. The tongue certainly had a bit of work with it. "Not particularly." He replied to her earlier question. Not wanting to leave it in the dust completely. If he was going to talk to this female he wasn't going to half it. At least try it his best not to. No guarantee's could be made.

Oberon took in a deep breath, his exhale being long and calming. As he took in a normal breath he decided to ask a question of her once more. "Are you impressed with what you see?" He asked honestly.

Oberon. A unique name. She idly wondered what it meant, but she was not curious enough to ask.

Impressed? With what? Her travels? The world? The wolves? Regardless, 'impressed' was not the word she would use. However...

"I have seen many fascinating things, met many different people, and heard stories so unique and incredible that one might be surprised such different wolves existed in the world," she mused. "My journey has been worthwhile."

She studied him with her ruby eyes.

"Do you have any tales to tell, Oberon?"
PostPosted: Wed Jan 25, 2012 4:35 pm

As he listened he nodded. "Other wolves can be rather captivating." He stated, trying to still keep himself calm and cool. Admittedly it was getting easier and easier the more he talked. Though he knew he would never truly be free. Oberon looked into her red eyes and thought for a moment before answering. Did he have any tales to tell her? One's that would interest her? "Honestly, I know of no tales that would interest you." He replied, still racking his brain for anything that might prove useful to someone of her trade.

After several moments he concluded he really had no interesting tales to tell as he was a complete and utter loner. When you were not around others you had no jokes to tell, no unsolved mystery of the land tales. Or simply just stories of other wolves. "I keep to myself." He stated, hoping that would answer any question she may have as to why he didn't have anything to tell her.

Hmm...a wolf with no tales at all? Senka was certain that such could not be the case. Perhaps he simply did not realize what he knew, or think anything that had happened to him worthwhile. However, there was more to life than collecting tales. Even for her. She would not pry into this wolf's life, at least. He seemed sweet enough. No reason to torment him.

"No? Then perhaps there is something I could tell you? Something you would like to know or hear?" Or, if he had no preference, then perhaps she could keep one or two of the promises she had made. Spread the warnings and news she had been entrusted with. Certainly, at least one of those wolves deserved it.

Oberon thought for a moment. It would be nice to listen to her tales and just to hear another's voice who was respectful of his apparent lack of communication skills. "I wouldn't mind hearing a tale or two. Whatever strikes you're interest in the moment is fine with me. Or if you think you have a tale that would interest me?" He asked not entirely sure what kind of tales she did have. And how he would feel about them even if he did know. Maybe it was best for her to use her expertise on him. Smiling lightly he laid down and lightly wagged his tail as she waited for her story.

No preference. It appeared her promises were to to be kept, then.

"It is not a tale to amuse," she warned. "But I owe it to someone to make sure this story is told."

Senka settled herself on her haunches, and took a deep breath before taking up her Storyteller's cant.

"Not so very long ago, there existed a pack called Jewels of the Meadow. They were peaceful, if a little fickle and proud, but they never sought to harm anyone and their lives were good..."

As Senka began her tale Oberon listened diligently just in case the story held some sort of importance to his travels or otherwise. His light eyes were enchanted with her red one's, his body relaxing a bit as the story developed. His yellow and pink ears honed in on her. For the moment, Oberon probably looked like a loner clinging onto the every word of a rogue female for probably a less then savory experience. Well, some would consider it unsavory. Regardless, that was not his intent. Though the more he listened the more he wondered just how badly this tale was going to end. If it was not meant to amuse then surely it was to end badly.

"One day, an emissary from a neighboring pack came to visit them. This wolf made them uneasy, but the alphas agreed to hear him out. He brought with him a message: Pay tribute to the Reign of Terror, and we will protect offer you our protection.

"Well, quite naturally, this did not sit well with them. The alphas sent the emissary on his way, but not before he made an example of one of their pack members, maiming her until she lost all use of one of her legs. He gave them one more message: I will return once more. If you have not changed your mind before then, we will come for you. Think well on this.

"Thus, he left and the debate began. Should they give in to the demands of this unknown pack, or should they resist? If they did try to resist, did they even stand a chance?

"In the end, the nature of the pack was such that they could not imagine what this Reign of Terror could possibly do to them should they continue to refuse. No. They would not give in. They had managed well enough without protection thus far. They would continue to manage without it."
