He sat on the floor, his back lightly pressed against his bed as a hand reached underneath to pull out a book, tattered and worn from use. He smiled like an eager child as he flipped through the pages, his fingers brushing against the dog-eared corners as he stared at the pictures of modern artillery. Yet something tugged at the back of his mind. He frowned. What was he forgetting? [What’s bothering you?] I feel like I’m forgetting somethi—WAIT. He leapt up and scrambled for his cellphone. Wilson had not completely forgotten his conversation with Kat, at least, not the part where he asked the sun hunter to see Xedis. Although he had made a mental note to approach her about it, other things seemed to pop up and the thought completely escaped his mind—until now.
He searched through the list of trainees until he found who he was looking for.
wanna meet up? ill be at the training grounds.
wilson
[Training grounds? I never thought I’d see the day.] Oh hush, Gramps. Soon as he stepped out of his room, the Christmas lights and garland immediately caught his attention. He stood frozen in front of his door, taking in the delectable smell of cinnamon and peppermint. Man, that made him hungry. Maybe…NO! The response roused a raspy laughter out of his partner, but Wilson ignored it in favor of rushing down the hallway and outside, where the scents wouldn’t make him hungry.
His boots crunching against the fine layer of frost, he tugged at his sleeves to cover his hands and pulled goggle-Gramps over his eyes. Winter already? Once the grounds entered his view sight he called out, “Kat?”

Kat had been taken in by all the Christmas decorations put up. She never thought Deus Ex Machina to be the sort that would decorate the place for Christmas. What surprised her even more, was the fact there was even frost on the ground. How? She absolutely no idea, but it was still pretty awesome. She wasn't much for cold weather, she preferred the heat. But even she like winter around the holidays. Of course, this also meant that she had to dress more warmly for now.
Feeling a small vibration on her hip in the pocket of her coat, Kat dug out her phone and flipped it open to find a text from Wilson. "Training grounds?" Blinking at the message, she snapped the phone shut again and rubbed the tip of her nose. Is he wanting to spar or something?
:How the hell am I supposed to know?:
Your not. I wasn't asking you.
Shrugging, she decided to head on over and find out what was up. Besides..she hadn't seen Wilson since the whole Halloween mission. And it would be nice to chat again, without the damned golems.
Once there, she entered the grounds, scanning the area for Wilson. "Hello?" She called out, but received no answer. "Hmmm.." Tapping her foot, she decided to move further in. Her guess: he hadn't arrived yet. Which was confirmed when he did a few minutes later. "Over here." She waved to get his attention, before folding her arms over her chest. "Whats up?Syusaki Sorry! Completely forgot to tag you xD;;

A second later he heard her familiar voice; Wilson’s face lit up. He waved back as he strode over. “Hey! I’m doing alright—a bit confused by those decorations. When…?” His eyebrows furrowed as he turned around to face the direction of the dorm building, reminded of the festive garlands and delicious smells that suddenly filled its hallways. Wilson shook his head. It wasn’t that he disliked the holiday season. He loved it, but how and when had these decorations been put up? Plus, who had done them? On a dreary, Spartan place like Deus Ex Machina, the Christmas celebration had been greatly unexpected. “Anyways, you? How’ve you been?”
Wilson took a good look at Kat. The last mission everyone had been in golems and he had only gotten a few glances of her in the past. It would do him good to be able to connect her voice with her face from now on. Then his eyes searched for her unsummoned weapon. “Uhhh. Remember when I said I wanted to look at your weapon?” He began to fidget. “We can fight afterwards! If you want.” It was always better to see guns in action anyways.

Laughing, she glanced again at the decorations set up all over the place. "I kind of like them. Makes me feel more at home somehow. I dunno..I just like Christmas really." She never really had a large Christmas, but she still loved it all the same. "Though..I would love to know..how the heck we got frost. Its kind of a surprising thing to see here--since..well, we're on a tropical island." It would have been awesome if the frost came with snow. The idea of a snowball fight would be most fun.
"I've been good. Still settling in, and trying to get used to everything here." So many rules for Deus Ex. It made her a little edgy sometimes. One slip up, and they were in deep s**t. This, she knew.
Blinking at the male hunter, she tried to recall what it was he was talking about. When did he ask to..Oh! Right! Back on the mission. "Ohh, yeah! I completely forgot about that. But sure. Sounds like fun." Laughing, she tapped lightly against the star drop earrings that hung from her ears.
Slowly materializing in her hands, she held up the guns for Wilson to see. Xedis, was not so pleased to be shown off like some sort of show and tell item.
:Jack dammit Kat! You better not be showing me off to your friends for no without a fight to be had. Really..!:

“Oh, don’t get me wrong! I’m perfectly fine with the decorations and stuff, it’s just that it really surprised me.” He glanced back at the building. Plus, how did Caelius feel about the decorations? The man was very grumpy and irate—definitely someone Wilson pegged to loathe the garlands and mistletoe that littered the doors and halls.
“Yeah. The frost did catch me a bit off guard,” Wilson admitted as he stared at the ground with an incredulous look. It was just as Kat had said. This was a tropical island, so why the heck was there a layer of white frost coating the ground? At the same time, perhaps he should wonder how a sentient weapon could telepathically communicate with him. Maybe it was easier to just take things at a glance and move on rather than to question. The frost made him secretly wish for snow. He was really starting to miss his snow days.
His fidgeting stopped immediately when she contented. A sparkle entered his eyes, almost like a child staring at his first Christmas tree. “Really?” Wilson tried not wiggle his fingers eagerly as she summoned her weapon. Luckily he succeeded. Once Xedis was in his hands, he brought the dual guns closer to examine the body. “Hmm. I wonder what model this would be? The design is certainly one of kind.” The longer he had Xedis in his hands, the more he looked like someone who had gotten his Christmas presents early. “I wonder what caliber this has, but since he uses FEAR that’s probably not too important, maybe…?”
Meanwhile, Gramps scoffed.

"I think they came as a shock to everyone. Its the last thing I would have expected to see at Deus ex anyways. Christmas decorations just doesn't really seem like their thing, y'know?" Then again, maybe Julie was behind this? She was a likely suspect in this random act. But then again, it would be nearly impossible for even her to pull off the whole frost thing.
In a way, she kind of hope that the frost would stay for a while, even if she wasn't fond of the cold. It was just a nice change for once, and it was nice to have for the holidays even. No doubt, it would come to end eventually--or at least she expected it to. Caelius must be highly irritated over it all as well.
Kat merely laughed as Wilson examined Xedis. "Probably one of a kind, because he's a failed model or something." She was joking of course, but it was enough of an insult to Xedis, that she heard a long string of curses flowing through her mind. "He seems to run on energy or something. At least, when I've used them, it just seems to be electricity being shot out. I dunno. Saves me having to worry about ammo."
Pausing, she stopped to look at Wilson again. "So..you going to show me your weapon then?"

Wilson laughed, nodding his head. “True, though it makes me wonder who exactly spent all the time to put up these decorations and such.” He turned to look at the nearest piece of Christmas ornaments, faintly gleaming in the distance. “You know, it’s probably more than one person. Putting up everything sure seems like a long process for one person.”
He secretly hoped that the thin layer of frost meant there was a likely chance of snow. It made little sense to him, given that Deus Ex resided on a tropical island and all, but if monsters and rune magic could exist, then why couldn’t the island receive a bit of snow during the winter? Despite growing up in Wisconsin, it had been a while since he had last seen snow—mostly due to leaving the state for college. Wilson smiled at the thought. How nostalgic.
“Failed model.” The death trainee suppressed a laugh, amusedly wondering what Xedis thought of the comment. What about you, Gramps? [I think—I think—…what are we talking about?] Nevermind. “Energy? Nice. Very low-maintenance, then.”
It took him a few seconds to realize that Kat was staring at him. “Oh! Yeah. No problem. No problem at all.” He handed Xedis back to Kat before reaching up to pull off the goggles around his neck. It glowed, shifting into the canon-slash-tank and mask. While it took him a while to shrug on the tank, slipping on the mask and canons were easier. He attempted to adjust his mask, though it was rather difficult. “What do you think?”
Behind the green lens, he curiously stared at Kat’s weapon. “Hey, mind if I get to see your partner in action?”

First culprits that came to mind was; Julie...she just seemed like the kind of person to pull this kind of stunt. The other; the strange lunch lady...she was strange... "Hmm, I have my suspicions." Tapping her index finger against her chin in thought, Kat turned her attention back to Wilson. "In any case, it probably won't last long..or will it? Eh," Throwing her arms up into the air, Kat folded them beneath her chest. "Who knows?" Whatever the case, it was a nice change of scenery.
Grinning lightly at the death hunter's amusement over her choice of words, she shifted her position, before reaching out to take Xedis back. As much as poked fun at Xedis, and he retorted with insults of his own, Kat wouldn't trade him in for anything.
Pleased to see that Wilson agreed to show his weapon in return, she watched with glee as weapon began to materialize. Okay..don't take offense, Xedis..but his weapon looks waaay cooler than you. All she received in return was a rather grumpy 'Hrmph!' from the comment. Yes, she would not trade Xedis for anything. But nothing stopped her from admiring other weapons more. "Definitely one of the coolest I've seen. Very unique as well."
Kat beamed. "A challenge, eh?" And a chance to see him and his own weapon in action? How could she pass this opportunity up? "Xedis and I would be happy to comply."

Wilson held no doubt that Julie had a hand in the decorations placed all over the island. The moon assistant wore colorful clothes, and although he knew that Julie was a skilled hunter—how else had she attained her assistant position?—she was also a bit off her rockers and uh, eager about certain things. What exactly all of those certain things were, Wilson did not know nor did he wish to know. He smiled. “Hopefully it’ll at least last until after Christmas. There’s nothing like a snowy Christmas, you know?” He also barely knew a Christmas without snow.
“Cool? You think so?” He quirked an eyebrow behind the mask. “He’s a real pain to haul around, but I’ll agree that Gramps is pretty unique.” He lightly bit down on his bottom lip to prevent himself from spouting any more words that would incur Gramps wrath, but the weapon could always read his mind instead.
“Awesome.” He began to take a couple steps back. “Let me just say that I sort of suck at this fighting business. Really.” Wilson shrugged. “But go ahead and do the honors of starting.”

Kat fully agreed on the snow--er..frost--giving the island a Christmas like feeling. As much as she loved the comfort of her heat on a tropical island, she did enjoy, and tolerate snow for this time of the year. Only for this time of the year. "Hopefully. If it doesn't, well..maybe we can just rip up some pillows to make do with some fake snow or something." She doubt that the death hunter leader, Caelius would tolerate such an act, but it still made for an amusing idea at least.
"But of course!" She grinned and strode towards Wilson. "I haven't seen a weapon like this in all my life. It must make your opponents question its abilities. Which could be useful as well." Her guess, it was something to do with toxins. Not something she would want to mingle with, but there it was. They were about to begin a spar of their own. At least the sun hunter would be able to see his weapon's abilities first hand.
"Hah!" Shaking her head, Kat drew her weapons out in front of her, aiming them directly at Wilson. "I can guarantee you, that I'm probably worse. Whenever I do land a shot, its just luck." Firing off a round, Kat wrinkled her nose at the shot missed by a long shot. "I wasn't kidding, either." HP: 40/40 TARGET: Wilson DAMAGE: 0 CHARGE ATTACK: ---

He chuckled. “Rip up pillows? Sounds like a nice solution, but then we’d have to pick up the mess afterwards.” His lips formed a disappointed frown at the revelation. Wilson would have loved to have torn up some pillows for fake snow, but the thought of cleaning up sucked away all will to search out for spare pillows. Someone would definitely yell at them anyways.
Wilson could hear Gramps preening himself at Kat’s words, muttering and neighing happily. The weapon wasn’t used to receiving compliments and seemed to suck them up like a vacuum. But there was a definite ring of truth to it. “Yeah. I didn’t know what to call them at first, because they’re cannons connected to a tank with gas and blades on the end and…yeah. It was a conundrum.” A shrug. “But now I just call them poison cannons.”
“Don’t worry. I’m not that good either,” he reassured her, bending his knees to shift into a ready stance. Wilson cracked a smile when the other trainee fired a shot that missed. It reminded him a lot of when he first picked up a gun, but it hadn’t taken him long to get used to it. “It’s alright. Usually I trip and spaz like an idiot.”
Except the oncoming stream of green gas implied otherwise.

"Ah ah ah~" She waggled her finger at him. "Not if we run away before people caught us! If they don't know who made the mess, they can't tell them to clean it up." Not that they should actually go along with the idea. It was more an amusing thought really. And she highly doubted the would be able to get away with it. It was like this island had eyes at every turn. Or maybe it was just the cameras?
Shrugging as he continued, she figured 'poison cannons' to be a good a name as any. If it were her naming the weapon, she would probably come up with something..annoying towards the weapon. "Sounds like a good name for them." Definitely suited them, that was for sure.
Snickering, she kept on her toes, not wanting to linger in one spot for too long. That was like asking to get hit while in combat. Not that it mattered anyways, what with his weapons practically spewing out its contents of gas.
Coughing and gagging a moment, she waved the gas away from her face, retreating back further and out of range for the moment, and fired a single shot towards the death hunter. Kat received thoughtful silence from Wilson while he mulled over her words. “True,” he admitted, “though I don’t know if I would do that. It doesn’t seem like the right thing to do.” As he thought about it more, he figured even if he had chosen to flee, he would have returned to clean up the mess anyways. Wilson didn’t want to leave his messes behind for someone else to sweep up if he could help.
[Him. I’m a boil. I can’t believe you called me them, you little whippersnapper. Why I oughta—] Wilson held back a sigh. Here was another of Gramps’ rambling rants that went nowhere. The raspy voice nearly drowned out the sound of Kat’s coughing.
“Was that too much?” He raised an arm at her as he stepped toward her, but somehow he fumbled with his weapon and managed to release another cloud of gas. “OH—ASD;FKASFLA”

Thanks to Kat not being able to hear Wilson's weapon's rant, she was completely oblivious to the fact they were offended by her words. Not that Kat would pay much attention to it, even if she did have any knowledge of them being upset. She was always pulling this sort of crap with Xedis. It was amazing he hadn't backfired on her in revenge.
Continuing to wave the cloud of gas clear of her face, as to not inhale it, she shook her head in response. "No, its fine." Well, she could see why wearing a gas mask would benefit from this. Maybe she ought to get one herself in case she had to ever do this again.
When he stepped toward her, her jaw nearly dropped as he fumbled with his weapon, and yet another large cloud of gas wafted towards her. She could hardly breath as it was, this just made it worse.
In a moment of her coughing fit, Kat accidentally pulled the trigger.

Wilson would advise getting a personal gasmask. It wasn’t often someone would need it and the mask would more likely collect dust under the bed or in the closet or wherever Kat would decide to keep it.
The cloud was too thick for Wilson to actually see her jaw drop, but he began to apologize profusely anyways, “Ahhh sorry Kat! I’m still trying to get the hang of using Gramps.” There was a sudden silence as he launched into a mental scolding at his partner, who only barked back at him. At least it was cut short when he felt something scrape his side. “Ow!” He tried to cover the injury with his hands, which was difficult with cannon hands. Wilson had never realized how much guns could hurt.
Now he was beginning to know. B|
