((Just noticed that since it's in the wilderness maybe I shouldn't have rolled, but I think we can just go with it xD We are magically at a canyon as described above? I dunno.))
Chloe was out scouting, as was typical of her days off at the Pokemon Center she worked at, when she had encountered another trainer. It didn't take much for both of them to decide to have a casual battle.
"I hope you're ready." She tossed one of her pokeballs up in the air and caught it again, repeating this a few times as she sized up her opponent. She was somewhat talking to her, mostly talking to Shimmer, who she had never battled with before, and even a little bit talking to herself. "Let's do this."

((Yeah, there are no stadium fields in the wilderness, so let's pretend that you didn't roll. xD))
"I'm definitely ready!" Zinnia said confidently, lightly touching the two balls on her belt. For a long time, Zinnia hadn't used pokeballs at all; she hadn't approved of them, and neither of her pokemon wanted to be in them. But in the last year, the convenience of easily transporting her pokemon without attracting the attention of the people around her (black mews were, after all, a bit unusual), had at last convinced her to keep her pokemon contained like most trainers do until the time was more appropriate. They still got free range in the Rocket base, so the two pokemon had agreed at last.
But now they were about to come out! Zinnia was definitely ready to gain some more experience in battling, both for herself and for her pokemon!
((Sorry for the ramble; just sorting out my own characters again. XD))

"Come on Bandit, let's go!" Chloe tossed his pokeball out and he charged forward the instant it opened, ready to battle. "Use your Thunderbolt!"
"Bli!" Bandit began to spark, a look of determination on his face. After just a moment building up for the attack, a powerful bolt of electricity shot forth from him aimed right for his opponent.

"Come out, Shadow!" Zinnia called, tossing out the mew's master ball.
Shadow Mew burst forth in a flash of red light. She had time to blink once before she realized what was going on, and she managed to just barely dodge Bandit's thunderbolt attack.
"Nice dodge, Shadow!" Zinnia complimented. "Now fight back with an Earth Power!"
Shadow Mew concentrated her powers into one spot, and suddenly the ground beneath Bandit started bursting apart.

"Look out!" Chloe cried, but it was too late. "Come on, Thunderbolt again!" She stared at the Mew in awe, having never seen one before. Weren't they supposed to be pink? This was certainly a rare one, even for a legendary pokemon. Too bad it was clearly too powerful for her to be able to really consider trying to steal it away from its trainer.
Bandit flinched at the command for the mew to use Earth Power, darting away. He managed to avoid being hit directly but he still went flying, sparking a bit and then launching a smaller bolt of electricity at the Mew, this one intended to paralyze rather than do damage.

Shadow Mew flew to one side in time to avoid the bolt of lightning again. She had gotten her bearing by then and waited alertly for Zinnia's command.
"Another Earth Power!" she shouted.
The ground beneath Bandit's feet began to break apart again as Shadow focused her will.

"Ok, new plan." Chloe sighed, "Try your Tail Whip!"
Bandit once again did his best to skirt away from the bursting earth, the ground attack hurting him more than he was used to. "Bli bli!" He gave Chloe a quick nod before jumping and spinning in midair, wagging his short fuzzy tail at his opponent and trying to look as cute as he could. "Blitzle!"

"Gonna play like that, eh?" They were battling defensively, it would seem. Probably a good plan. "Alright, back to plan A... Thundebolt again!"
Bandit let out a low growl of frustration as his opponent undid what he had just done. He shot yet another bolt at the Mew, hoping desperately that it would land this time.

For Bandit, the third time was the charm; Shadow Mew was not able to avoid the bolt of lightning in time and was struck fairly strongly. She froze in midair, unable to move.
"Come on, Shadow! You can make it! Use Ancient Power again!" Zinnia clenched her hands into fists and hoped that her pokemon would be able to make it through her paralysis.
Shadow Mew tried to fight through her paralysis to make her move.

Success! Now that he'd gotten one real hit, maybe his luck would change. He spun around once more and used the defense-lowering move once more, he too not wanting to be unable to deal any damage.

Easy enough for you to say... Shadow Mew thought to herself. She was, after all, the one out there fighting. Still, it was true that Zinnia knew what she was doing. So Shadow gathered up her strength and hoped that her paralysis would wear off without causing her any problems.
