WE ARE HALLOWEEN Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

Training. It was on Deryk's mind quite a bit. He wanted to be proficient at his job. What better, than to do a training exercise? The various list of things he could do were all interesting, but for now the Sun Hunter course grabbed his attention. Right now, he could use a little more fighting experience still. Sparring with other trainees did well for that, but this sounded like it would do pretty well too.
He wasn't really confident he could do too well on his own, though. So, he went on to see who else would be up for doing a course with him.
Right now, he wasn't too familiar with anyone just yet, but there were a few hunters whom he had spoken with a few times. After spotting Wilson once, he made the offer to see if he'd be up for tackling the shadows.
And so there they were, preparing for things to begin.
"You ready for this? I think I'm ready. Not sure what to expect. Heard this is really tough," he said while letting Tooley out, taking a moment to look over his hidden blade. Taking on multiple opponents with such a close range weapon was going to be a challenge.
But hey. If Altair and Ezio could do it, he could too... right?

Training—not exactly Wilson’s favorite activity, but there wasn’t much else he could do. He could remain in his dorm, rifling through his book or playing his game, but hours of being confined to his room proved to only be amusing for so many days. He could explore the island, but it hadn’t taken him long until he was familiar with most of the buildings and areas. Combined with Gramps’ constant nagging to practice, training seemed to be the only viable option to occupy most of his time with, but he didn’t like doing it by himself. Wilson felt more comfortable training with someone else, chatting with them and just being with another person in general. N-Not that having only Gramps was bad or anything, it was just that a whining voice in his head didn’t really cut it sometimes.
He had been glad when Deryk struck up the offer to run a training course together. Company was always preferred (unless it was someone like Caelius, erk…) Plus, it seemed like a good idea to get to know the other trainee more. They were in the same division after all.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.” Wilson held back a grimace as he pulled the goggles over his head. He bent over before summoning his weapon, letting the giant tank-slash-cannon gently plop to the ground. “I’ve done this run a few times. I absolutely sucked at it.” He laughed weakly, putting on his mask before picking up the rest of his weapon. “But since we’re doing it together maybe I’ll fair better this time. Hopefully.” The uneasiness in his voice was probably why he gestured with his cannons for the other man to lead the way. Figures.

"Is it that hard? Hadn't had a chance to do any of the courses yet."Deryk was now slightly apprehensive about doing this course, but it was too late to turn back now. Taking in a deep breath, he nodded to the other trainee, extending the hidden blade ahead of time. "Alright. Let's do this. Perhaps we can beat this together." he said with a sense of determination. Not wanting to dally too long, he went on into the tunnel, waiting for the first signs of shadowlings to appear. He hadn't really seen the things before so he wasn't entirely certain what to expect. Other than dark blobs that is. From what he could tell, that was about right as far as their description went. Tooley had a point, and this was quite apparent as the first wave came towards them. As the shadowlings drew close, the blonde hunter slashed and stabbed into them, defeating a handful withe relative ease. “Maybe I just suck at this course. That is absolutely and probably possible.” Behind the mask he eyed the hidden blade. Ooooh. That was pretty neat. Gramps, why couldn’t you have been sleek like Derryk’s weapon? You’re such a hassle to carry around sometimes. Gramps huffed indignantly. [Little ones these days just don’t understand.]
“Mmhm. Yeah. Let’s do this.” [Get a bit more pep, Youngin’. This won’t be so bad.] Wilson frowned, unconvinced while he walked behind Derryk. Up ahead he could see the first wave looming. To be honest, they didn’t appear to be strong just like Derryk thought, but there was something Wilson had come to learn from his previous runs through the course—the little critters didn’t hesitate to take advantage of hesitations and weakness.
Boy, did Wilson have plenty of openings. Just a couple of swings and they had already overtaken him, wary from the memories of his previous run-throughs with the creatures. [OH JACK. WILSON. WHY. DOES. THIS. HAPPEN. EVERY. TIME?] “Ah…sorry…Should really fix that hesitation problem of mine.” It wasn’t clear who he was apologizing to. Perhaps both? No matter. The young man had already conked out by the time a senior hunter came by to sling Wilson over his shoulder.
“Don’t worry, kid. Just keeping moving, this guy will be fine.” He waved Derryk goodbye before running off.Status Wave: 1 Attack Dmg: 0 Total Shadowlings taken out: 0 Recoveries left: 0, Wilson you suck at this

"Aw come on don't say that. Course is probably really tough. Yes," Deryk nodded while looking around to see where the next shadowlings would pop up. They came, and before he knew it, they were swarming all over Wilson. "Ack! Wilson!" he cried out while watching as his partner was overwhelmed before too long. At least a senior hunter had come by to save the guy before anything horrendous could happen, but this didn't make him feel too good about the rest of this training run. Tooley hummed. Looking up, Deryk was quickly reminded that he was being attacked. He did as Tooley said, jumping to the left as some shadowlings attacked. Once he landed, he slashed out a small group, dispatching them. Status Wave: 2 Attack Dmg: 3 Total Shadowlings taken out: 9 Recoveries left: 0 Charge:2/3

Deryk was still nervous now that he was on his own for this training course. He had a really short ranged weapon so he wasn't sure if he could keep everything at bay. Looking around, he made a swipe for one but he didn't connect with any of the shades. His mistake costed him as the remaining shadowlings around pounced onto him. "AAAAAAAAHH" he cried out while flailing under them all. Before too long, he ended up succumbing to them all, passing out. And thus he soon joined Wilson in the ranks of 'needed to be saved'. It was a shame Wilson hadn’t been conscious to see Derryk’s defeat. It would’ve comforted him somewhat, although the fact that Derryk had taken out nine shadowlings while he had taken out an impressive number of zero still would’ve stung.
Luckily, it wasn’t long until Wilson slowly came to. He breathed deeply then realized his mask was gone. Gramps? Wilson forced his eyes open and attempted to remember what he had just been doing. [About time you woke up, Youngin’. They’re almost done bandaging you.] “Bwuh?” As he pushed himself up he finally understood—there was a hunter kneeling next to him, humming quietly as he wrapped some bandages around the trainee’s arms.
“Finally came to? That was quick,” the elder hunter chimed with an approving nod of his head.
“I’m used to it, I suppose.” A wry smile, then his eyes widened. Derryk! “The other trainee, Derryk. Is he okay?” The hunter half-nodded his head to the side and Wilson’s gaze followed. He slowly got to his feet to walk over to Derryk, who appeared to be waking up as well. Wilson abruptly sat down, wincing as he did so. [Obviously, we need to do some more work on this course.] Inside his mind, he laughed uneasily. He crossed his legs and wrapped his arms around them. Frowning, Wilson scratched his head. “Soooo. Uh, how did you do? Did you get very far? Certainly farther than I did.” He chuckled.

<... What?>
Though he didn't know what Tooley said just there, it seemed to help Deryk come around. His body felt rather sore right now and he didn't really feel like getting up at the moment. The trainee probably would have just stayed laying there with his eyes closed a little longer if he hadn't heard Wilson speaking up nearby.
Looking over, he saw the other trainee and recalled what had happened at first. Oh right. He got taken out by those shadowlings. Slowly, he pushed himself up into a sitting position, gingerly.
"Ow ow ow.. sore. Sore. Oh. Uh. Got taken out in the third wave. I think. Yes. It was the third wave. So I failed," he frowned. He only took out nine of the shades too, which didn't seem like a very high amount to him. This course was definitely hard.
"You feeling alright? What happened back there anyway?"

Wilson grinned at Deryk. He brought a hand up to rub the back of his neck as he took note of his own sores and bruises incurred from the shadowlings. Mutely, the trainee nodded his head as Deryk informed him of what had happened after the first wave. “Third wave, huh? Not bad. Now if only I could’ve made it that far with you.” He laughed. “And yeah, we’ll be feeling the aftereffects tomorrow.” His smile turned pained while he hung his head. Perhaps the injuries wouldn’t be too irritating; he was starting to become used to being injured and beat up now. Something he would have never imagined before coming to the island.
“Oh, yeah I’m fine. Those senior hunters are pretty good at getting others out of their fairly quick.” Wilson turned to his side so he could stretch out his legs. “You probably some sort of weakness or hesitation. Those things are really ruthless about that. Just one small moment and they won’t hesitate to take advantage of it.” It had taken him the first couple tries to realize this.

"Weakness. Hesitation. Sounds about right. Hesitated against Ariane once. Ended up losing spar because of it. Hard not to hesitate sometimes though," Deryk frowned while rubbing a sore spot in his side. Letting out a sigh, he grinned weakly at Wilson.
"Good thing the senior hunters are always around. Don't wanna think what'd happen if they weren't on top of things. But.. maybe next time we will both do better yes? Definitely harder than anticipated. So many shadowlings! Makes me wonder how the Sun hunters handle this sort of thing. They're supposed to be good at this yes?"

Wilson nodded his head sympathetically. “Yeah. I can definitely see why it’d be a good idea to practice not to hesitate, but I agree—sometimes you just can’t stop yourself from taking that crucial pause.” Then he broke out into a grin as the other trainee rubbed his side, obviously sore.
He couldn’t stop himself from weakly laughing when Derryk mentioned the senior hunters. Yes, Wilson was very thankful for their presence. Otherwise he probably would have died because of his failure ages ago. Rolling his neck, he winced at the twinges of pain. “Yeah, perhaps we will, but I have a feeling that this kind of stuff isn’t exactly my forte.” Wilson tried not to groan. It only meant he would have to run this course even more. He stood up and offered a hand to him. “Well, I guess they’re in the Sun division for a reason.” He shrugged, but winced once more.

"Yes good point. Death division not quite meant for front lines. Purpose is more covert as I gathered. Intelligence and all that jazz," Deryk nodded. That was something he was able to do more easily personally as well. He was never much of a physical guy, having spent a lot of time behind the computer and all. A part of him wondered if he'd do alright with the Life training course, though. That division was pretty closely tied to Death right?

“Yeah, all that jazz.” He wiggled his fingers. What was this thing called, jazz hands? “Yeah. Gathering intel and analyzing stuff on the scene, right?” Wilson didn’t mind doing those things, but he wasn’t the bookish type. He liked being outside and doing physical things, although he admitted that doing drills over and over would tire him out quickly. “So, I guess that’s it, huh?” Wilson rolled his shoulders. “I think I’m calling it quits for today.”

Deryk nodded before stretching a little gingerly once more.
"Yeah same here. Could use a shower or bath or something. Feels like this place could use some people to do massages too. Wouldn't that be nice? Specially after pulling stuff like this... and any other potentially insane feats," he said while rubbing a sore spot.
"Will see you around then. Was nice working with you."
