Kuruk walked close to K. who seemed to hang on his being as they entered a slightly darker arena than he remembered. It smelled different, there were different faces, smells, and a thick stank on the air he couldn't place. He grimaced, nose crinkling, and he looked up to her with bright blue eyes.
Why were they here?
K. stayed close to him and gulped. She had heard of this place, the illegal ring, and knew there was more money to be made. Jame had left a sum of money for her, but, times were tough, and certain items had gone up in price. She didn't want to exhaust all the funds left away for savings. She still wanted to have a happy and stable life when he returned.
She spoke to a man, and brought Kuruk to the edge.
"Just watch your back, stayed focused, remember if I call to you," she said smiling. "Remember your training," and she left his side but stayed close to the edge of the ring.
He turned, raised his tail and held a proud stance, un faltered, and waited. The bell tolled and he ran forward, paws heavy on the ground, body low, and he went for the other side.

Fighting Stats Attack: 8% x 6 = 48 Defense: 7% x 7 = 49 Speed: 1% x 2 = 2 Agility: 6% x 2 = 12 Intelligence: 5% x 5 = 25 They were back here again, this time at Jamie's own volition. Things started happening for his owner that Rook had only just started noticing. He seemed to be getting stronger, and tried harder around the ring and when they were training. Somehow he seemed a bit less like the person he met just a few months ago, but bits of that old human still remained. The dark wavy black hair, the glasses, and he occasionally noticed when the teen's skittish side resurfaced every so often. Rook started paying more attention, curious as to the gradual change. He couldn't quite tell yet if it was for the better, but so far.. so good.
The illegal pits were still as dimly lit as he remembered, recalling his terrible loss the first time around. He wasn't unprepared this time though; he was ready and expecting another fierce opponent, and he knew he would at least be able to stand his ground. Jamie gave him a pat on the head and left without a word, which suited Rook just fine. They had a sort of wordless understanding when it came to being in and around the arena, and truth be told, the young fighter liked it that way.
When the gate was raised he walked into the ring, bi-colored eyes searching for his opponent first, then breaking into a run when he saw him. It felt like a slow start, but hopefully he would pick up momentum as the fight went on. He was just getting started, after all.

Kuruk saw the male, light, splotched, easy to see in the dim light and he grinned. He began picking up speed, dirt giving way to his heavy paws, and he looked for an outlet. The walls were too far away, no way to get teh male close enough, nor slam the male that far over.
All he could do was aim for the shoulder, normal move, but with an idea he picked up from his previous opponent.
He had to be creative.
He snarled as he got close and lunged, pushing his weight towards the male, shoulder aimed for shoulder, but if that failed, his back foot was angled to at least try to catch him by the paw to try and make the male stumble.
Kuruk only hoped his idea worked.

Rook's focus was completely on his oncoming opponent now, and as the other lunged at him he matched it, meeting shoulder to shoulder on impact. His footing faltered somewhat though, and the brown fighter got the better of him, pushing him back a way's before he caught himself. Thankfully he didn't stumble, so using his back haunches as a spring -- something he picked up from his very first fight -- he jumped right back into things, claws bared and aimed straight at the other's face.
All the while he kept as straight a face as he could manage. No snarling, no growling; just stoic and completely under control. His shoulder was starting to ache though, and he began to wonder just how much more experience this other mokai had over him.

Shoulder met shoulder in a clash of muscle against muscle and Kuruk grit his jaw together, watching the other mokai push against his, strong, using his back legs getting his footing and he let his ears fall back as he fought back. The other aimed for his face with claws and Kuruk tried to duck, but felt a stinging sensation on his neck and he pulled back and away, rolling to the ground and back onto his feet.
He took a breath into his mouth and breathed out through his nose, nostrils flaring.
This wasn't going to be easy.
K. was quiet, and leaving this to him. She was nervous, he could tell by the expression on his face. He didn't want to let her down. He turned away from his opponent and ran for the nearest wall, when close enough he jumped, pushed with his paws and sprung backwards and was running at the splotched mokai again. This time he wasn't a straight shot. He dodged, back and forth, zigzagging, wanting to get close enough.
As he approach again, Kuruk slid and sprung, aiming to knock the wind out of the male's chest but he wasn't sure if he had enough speed. He only hoped.

He felt his claws rake his opponent's neck, sending the brown mokai back some feet and tumbling as well. Rook exhaled deeply, satisfied somewhat with the hit but still not wanting to relent; he pushed forward on the offense, only to be disoriented by the other's movements. He was fast for such a big fighter, but then a part of him knew better than to assume that a mokai's size had a direct relation to their agility.
He was forced to stop his charge, dust flying as he skid a short distance on the dirt, narrowing his eyes and readying himself for a strike as the other came at him in a zigzagging formation. Rook felt a headache coming on as the other fighter approached at top speed, and he realized too late that he was close enough to make another attack.
The brown mokai impacted hard, knocking the wind right out of Rook as he went tumbling back, head over tail. He came to a skidding stop on his stomach several feet away, eyes clenched tightly as he struggled to get up.

Kuruk strained and bite his lip as he hit his opponent. He felt an awful pull in his shoulder, again, like hte pain he felt a little over a week ago. Not again he thought to himself as the male mokai was pushed away from him, and Kuruk stumbled and fell.
Regardless that the splotched male hadn't outright attacked, Kuruk felt a hard blow to his muscle, and it pained him.
Standing again, not far from the male, Kuruk huffed, held in a snarl so it only rumbled in his throat and attempted to swipe at the other's side, but it was more of trying to get a few more moments to catch his breath through the pain.

For whatever reason, the next attack didn't come right away; not that Rook was complaining, he was having enough trouble catching his breath and getting his head to stop spinning from such a strong hit. When he finally managed to straighten himself out, it was barely in time and he felt the brown mokai's claws make contact with their intended target. His claws didn't dig too deep though, as he seemed a bit distracted himself, so Rook took advantage and tried to take a few swipes at the other male.
At this point he could only hope to make contact, and he felt his energy just starting to slip away slowly but surely. It reminded him of his first fight, when he went down just as it ended. He was lucky enough to have stood his ground for as long as he did all things considered, and although he hoped this fight would go better.. well, things don't always go the way you want.

Kuruk didn't even snarl when the other's claws nipped into his skin, he just tried to pull away. he was able, but not before getting several scratches on himself.
He snarled and snapped back at the male mokai, and kicked out towards the male's face, just hoping to create distance, he didn't think his shoulder could take another big hit."

The brown fighter's kicks made enough contact to push Rook away just a smidge, but not enough so he was completely unable to reach his opponent. Claws kept moving tirelessly -- or seemingly so -- at the other until the bell tolled, and their fight was called to a stop. Rook narrowed his eyes and huffed, the adrenaline already starting to fade away, exhaustion taking its place. He took a second to look over his opponent, then nodded, accepting the loss, and turned to go back to Jamie.

He felt beaten down, but as the bell tolled and those that were on his side rounding the pit cheered, Kuruk felt happy, and K. seemed relieved, but worried. Kuruk pushed himself to walk over to her, but looked back at the smile, and offered a smile, as if to say : nothing against you, had to do what I had to do.
He walked to K. who welcomed him with gentle touches, and Kuruk winced even under the gentle pressure.
"What did you do...and again," K. sighed, looking him over.
He was like a tank, but he wasn't unstoppable.
"You're going to have to rest longer now, lets go home."
With that, another fight done, and Kuruk wanted nothing else but sleep.

Another loss, he thought, though he didn't let it bog down his mood. Really, losses could go one of two ways -- to teach you what you need to improve on, or make you a bitter sore loser. Rook turned to regard his opponent one last time before they officially parted ways, catching his smile and returning it. He did like the more civil fighters around here, and after nodding as if to acknowledge it, the silvery-splotched fighter made his way to Jamie.
"Nice job in there," he heard his owner say, and he huffed, eliciting a chuckle from the teen. "You'll do better next time, just watch. We just need to keep training, alright?"
At that Rook smiled and nodded, taking a seat and waiting as Jamie attached his lead. "You don't look too worse for wear, so tomorrow I'll get a little something, how's that sound?" As Rook walked alongside Jamie, he offered a chipper bark, tail wagging at the idea.
