WE ARE HALLOWEEN Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

Chaos, frustration, and tension. And mission reports. Stupid freaking mission reports. And after the post-mission meeting, Reine had hurried out with Eva and Otto, and Robert had gone off with Petra, so Jordan couldn't even track any of them down to find out what the hell was going on. Hungry, Ferros reminded Jordan. Not n - wait, no. Actually, that sounds like a great idea. Up for a repeat of the shadow run?An enthusiastic snarl left no doubt that Ferros was indeed up for it. Stepping through the portal and into the tunnel, Jordan paused for half a second to get his bearings and balance. It was a mistake; through instinct or some rudimentary form of communication, the shadowlings had massed just above the entrance, and when he stopped, a chittering avalanche came pouring down from the ceiling. He dived to the side, landing on his shoulder and rolling with the momentum to get further away from the creatures. Barely in time, too. The flood of darkness rushed over the spot where he'd been standing moments before. Mental note: hit the ground running. Jordan came up out of the roll onto his feet and sprinted to put some distance between himself and the swarm that was now trying its best to catch up with him. The things were remarkably persistent, and faster than they should be, given their small size. Then again, bugs were often small and fast, too. Think of it as squashing bugs, yeah. Bugs with tiny poisonous fangs. Thousands of bugs with tiny poisonous fangs. Okay, maybe not such a great idea. However, even bugs with poisonous fangs squished if you smacked them. Jordan brought Ferros around in a low arc as he ran; he could feel a light impact, not much of one, but he'd gotten at least one of the little freaks. Ferros hummed with satisfaction in his head, the dragon's inner fires beginning to warm even with the tiny bit of FEAR he'd consumed from the shadowling. Another quick, low swing, and another light thump. Not a good hit, which annoyed him, but not a miss, either. Come on, they're tiny, Ferros complained. I want more. You're not the one running and wielding all at once. Cut me some slack. Jordan leaped over a small mound of shadowlings that was rapidly forming on the floor ahead of him. The little monsters stretched up for him, chittering hungrily, then screeched in hungry fury as they missed entirely. The mound dissolved, beginning to flow after him in chase. Next you'll be telling me you can walk and chew gum at the same time, Ferros retorted. After long, intensive practice, I've finally mastered the art.Status Wave: 2Attack Dmg: 1 Total Shadowlings taken out: 2 Recoveries left: 0

The shadowlings were massing for a charge again. Idly, Jordan wondered just how smart the little things were; they seemed to have some kind of basic grasp of strategy, at least as a group. On the other hand, it could easily be as instinctive as the fluid motion of a school of fish or a flock of birds. Whichever it was, it didn't really matter right now, because that massed motion was preparing to launch itself at him, and wasting too much time contemplating it was a recipe for disaster. He brought Ferros up and around, swinging the hammer straight through a clump of shadowlings; this time the feeling of impact was more solid and satisfying, and Ferros's long steam-boiler hiss was full of predatory satisfaction and flaring heat. The sense of the weapon was coiled tight, heavy with fire, ready to burn up some monsters. Status Wave: 3Attack Dmg: 6 Total Shadowlings taken out: 8 Recoveries left: 0

Jordan threw his weight into a full spin, letting Ferros build extra momentum; the weapon's flames burst into life around the hammer's head, throwing the shadowlings into sudden, stark relief with a blaze of light. The flames caught against the little creatures' inky substance and crisped them even in passing. More fell to the blunt force of the metal itself. Ferros roared with exultant power, the sense of heat blasting outward from him in one massive, exhilarating explosion. When the fire flickered out, their path had been cleared for a good five feet as the shadowlings fled in terror from the fire. Good one, Jordan said. Good one, Ferros agreed smugly. The cleared space gave him a good clear sprint to pick up speed, the exit portal suddenly startlingly close. As Jordan ran, the shadowlings came sweeping back in towards him, their shrieking sounding almost angry now. Did we piss them off? Ferros laughed, smugly. Oh, good. More now.Greedy, Jordan said affectionately, and let the weapon sweep forward to clear the last few feet of the tunnel, passing through the portal with the faint shivering sensation of transport and a sense of deep satisfaction. He skidded to a stop on the other side, desummoning Ferros and resting his hands on his knees to catch his breath. That had felt good, and it had blown through a lot of his tension. The on-duty Hunter in the observation booth barely glanced at him, but he was getting used to that. One of these days we'll actually get impressive, Jordan said. Hmph. I thought my flame was plenty impressive, Ferros sniffed. Yeah, well, just wait till we've got some more practice under our belt. Jordan grinned, imagining a howling pillar of flame. Maybe someday. Come on, I want a shower to finish getting the feeling of pod off my skin.Hot water, Ferros said. Very hot. Water it might be, but he'd long since learned to appreciate the temperature.
