I'll start with a little background information about this festival:
Michfest as it is commonly called is a huge week long festival celebrating cultures through music, workshops, and movies. Many women from around the world gather there, to celebrate being a woman.
http://www.michfest.com/ is the official website for more information...my explaination is pretty basic I think.
Now, some of my reason why I dislike michfest is because of their views on transfolk...the view is that of "born women only" I was thinking about this one day.
There are people who aren't born physically female, but in my eyes, and the eyes of many others are female.
Then there are people who are born physically female, but in my eyes are male.
Of those two groups which have at some point in time lived the life of a female...although maybe not that of a "normal female"
My view is that if you identify as being female in any way shape or form you should be allowed to Michfest.
Discuss: Do you think the festival's rule should include transgender/transsexuals which are born male?
Is this celebration of being a woman a form of segregation?
along with any other discussions about Michfest
