Fortunately, the window that shattered wasn't Anna's. It was, however quite close to the witchling's room, and she recoiled from the sudden loud noise. How was she supposed to read with all that going on?!

As the sounds continued, Anna hunched over her book, her irritation growing bit by tiny bit until at last it overrode her fear of confrontation. Gloved hands balled into fists at her side, and she pushed her chair back and rose to her feet with a huff. "Come on, Shibey!" she proclaimed, squaring her shoulders and doing her best to hold onto the anger instead of chickening out. "We're going to go tell whoever that is something! And it's not going to be very nice!"

This was, apparently, acceptable; the Incubator slid off his bed and hopped up onto Anna's shoulder. Anna stiffly turned, opened the door, and marched down the hallway, down the stairs, down the other hallway, and out the main doors.

By the time she actually made it out, of course, her bravery had flagged a bit, but she'd come all this way and by Jack she was going to do it! "Hey!" she said, marching towards the source of the noise. "P-please... please be quie- oh, it's you?"

She recognized the boil, and that recognition threw the last bit of bravery right out of her. "U-uh, if it's okay, because I really am trying to study and it really is very, very loud?" she squeaked.

"I said-" Anna began, then winced as a particularly shrill blast emerged from the box-thing. She clapped her gloved hands over her ears.

Thus dislodged, Shibey leapt to the ground, landing neatly. The Incubator seemed unfazed by the noise. < It is far too loud. I believe you know this already, but Anna would like to ensure you are informed. > His tone, as always, was neutral-to-faintly-amused, but given that he was speaking telepathically, little things like ear-searing sound were no barrier.

< Thank you, > was all Shibey said in response to Roch's statement. The Incubator padded over to the amp and paced around it as if studying the device.

After a moment, Anna removed her hands from her ears, then sighed with relief. "It was an accident?" she asked, hopefully. "You didn't mean to make so much terrible noise?"

Anna was about to be offended when she realized the boil was addressing the guitar, not her. "O-oh... she? Is that your, um, your weapon?" she asked, tentatively. She'd never seen a Reaper with a guitar for a weapon before.

Shibey finished circling the amp and came back, sitting next to Anna's feet and watching Roch carefully.

Anna paled at the question, then visibly steeled herself. "I made a contract with him, s-so he became my familiar," she said, as bravely as she possibly could. "A-and, um... I dressed like this before then, so..."

Obviously the comment about skirts and frills and things from Acting class hadn't been forgotten. And it was a nice distraction...

Anna shook her head at the mention of trick or treaters, bemused. "No... there was one of them that came around sometimes, maybe once a year, but... not any of those names," she said, smoothing her skirts a little self-consciously. "Maybe one of them had a familiar like Shibey?"

< We appreciate a good trick, > Shibey said to both Reapers, sounding faintly interested. < What did they do? >

Shibey appeared to listen to this carefully, then nodded after a moment. If the Incubator had any further thoughts on the matter, he wasn't divulging them. "Okay, I'll keep that in mind?" Anna said, carefully, unsure what she thought about that. "I, um, I think that Shibey can only have one contract at a time, so... he's just mine, for right now. Nobody has to worry about that kind of thing."
