[[ I wasn't sure if you wanted this to be a planned meet-up or not. Which way you want it? I think my post is generic enough to go either way... ]]

The coffee shop was nearly packed full. On a weekday morning as cold as today, this was not a surprising fact. The thing that was interesting, however, was the brown Noodle standing at the end of the line. He appeared to be concentrating very hard on the boards behind the counter that listed the items up for sale. His crinkled brow even displayed mild confusion because of what he was seeing. This guy was obviously a new customer and had no clue what he had just stepped into.

Staring at the sign, Trey began to ponder the sanity of everyone. The names were so intricate that he found it hard to pinpoint which one was just an order of decafe. Maybe they hadn't even bothered to put such a simple order on the board? Maybe it was the cheapest item? It was all just so confusing!

[I was thinking a planned meeting, like they had been talking about previously. Just to get together and have coffee!]

Vynn skidded to a stop just outside of the coffee shop doors, convinced that she was terribly late, a frown plastering her face in place of her usual smile. As she pushed through the door she chastised herself for not paying closer attention to the time. Even after she had worked so hard to set up a playdate with Trey. Speaking of the noodle in question, she looked around for him, hoping she wasn't so late that he had given up and headed home already.

To her relief she could see him standing at the end of the line. Carefully she wound her way through the crowd to join him. "Hiya! Sorry I was late!" She glanced around the shop and smiled wide. "Glad I wasn't any later. This place is packed!

Trey started as Vynn was suddenly beside him. "Oh, it's alright," he said quickly. He followed her gaze around, amazed that it the place was still full. "Yes. It's been like this since I got here." Slowly, he returned Vynn's smile as he continued. "I guess we under estimated its popularity."

He shifted a bit after realizing how long he had been standing there. "The line is a bit slow..." Trey trailed off as he found himself caught in a dilemma. On the one side he was raised to be polite and wanted to give Vynn the chance to find a seat rather than stand along with him. However, on the other, Trey wanted her to stay, happy to finally have someone to talk to. As the line shifted just a bit, and he moved to follow it, he felt slightly less guilty about his selfishness.

"I was afraid you had gotten tired of waiting for me and left." She looked around again and laughed. "I guess so! Its probably just because the weather is so cold." She shivered a bit trying to shake the lingering cold from earlier off. Oblivious to his dilemma she looked up at the boards behind the counter trying to decide what sounded best. On the one hand she could never say no to an iced coffee, the sweet almost ice cream like substance being a large part of her childhood while her relationship with her mother was still good. On the other hand though, with the weather being so cold she wanted something hot to fight it off.

After much debate she settled on a mint mocha cappuccino. It fulfilled her still childish need for sugar while also being warm. With another smile she looked over to him as they moved a bit forward in line. "So how have you been?"

Trey's smile turned kind as he decided to ease her worry. "I wouldn't have done that." He seemed to ponder a moment on something before continuing, "I think I'm the sort that would wait even in the rain, if I knew plans had been made." His attention then turned to her theory and he nodded in agreement. "That would make sense. It certainly is winter, according to the weather."

"I've been trying to get into contact with my family," Trey said, bringing up a topic from their previous meeting. "But there keeps being obstacles. Either I'm too busy or they are." He sighed, unable to hide his disappointment. He looked over at Vynn and smiled despite himself. "Though I guess it was a good thing they were busy today because it left it open for me to meet up with you."

As the line moved a little more she followed it again, a light blush tinging her cheeks. Somehow knowing that he had said that -and meant every word of it- warmed her up from the inside out. He was such a great friend. "And a cold winter at that." She laughed causing people to to glance back at her in curiosity.

She frowned a bit as she watched the disappointment creep into his face. Shyly she scooted closer to comfort him. "At least it's progress right? Something will work out soon. I'm sure of it." With an air of naive certainty she nodded to emphasize her point. "That is good. I would have been sad if you couldn't make it today. I like seeing you!"

Trey stepped with Vynn to shift with the group but did not catch her blush while he watched where he placed his feet. "A very cold one, indeed." He felt a bit embarrassed, unsure if his previous statement had sounded stupid. Sometimes his mouth chose to word things in odd fashions. Trey liked Vynn's laugh, though, and chuckled quietly after the strangers turned back to facing forward.

The shift in Vynn's proximity surprised Trey but he didn't complain. He liked having her close. "I'll choose to believe in your certainty, then." Trey's body warmed as he heard Vynn's declaration. "I would have been, too. It is great to be able to meet with you again." He blushed, though he was unsure why. "So what have you been up to?"

"Me? Oh, nothing really. I talked to my older sister. We've been out of touch lately. I guess we've both been busier than we thought!" She laughed to herself for no real reason. "And I've been spending alot of time with my younger brother. He's so much like our dad. It's kind of cute!"

Realizing that she had finally reached the counter she let the conversation fall to a lull as she ordered her drink and waited patiently for him to do the same.

Listening patiently, Trey did not notice the line picking up. "So you have--" He was cut off shortly when they arrived before the counter. Once Vynn had given her order, Trey knew it was his turn, but he still had not fully comprehended the signs. "Oh, uh, just a .... decaf?" The female behind the register quirked her brow but otherwise made no comment as she punched in their order. Without bothering to think, Trey paid for Vynn's and his drinks before scooting to the side to wait for their order.

"As I was saying," Trey said, a bit embarrassed that he had ill-timed his question. "So you have an older sister and a younger brother? Do you have any other siblings?" Trey smiled, loving the topic of family despite how long it had been since he had seen his own. "And do you get along well with all of them?"

She too looked at him with confused wonder when he placed his order, but it was shortly washed away as he continued his question. Screwing her nose up to think she sat down. "I have quite a few siblings actually. It makes my father so happy to have such a big family." She paused to smile at him as if sharing an inside joke with an old friend. "I have an older sister and older brother. Morrgona and Narnil. Mora and I get along pretty well, though she thinks I'm still a silly little kid at heart. Narnil and I never talk." Here she frowned and looked away, clearly having reached a painful subject.

"On top of that I have four younger sisters and a little brother. Acora, Yukin, Esperanza, Chouko and Rix. Acora and I get along wonderfully. She's so much fun to be around, and we share the same sort of view on life. Yukin is kind of quiet, but she's a sweetheart. I think she'd be swarmed with men if she'd just get her nose out of her books. Esperanza I haven't spent much time with. I'd really like to fix that though. Chouko is positively insane and I love it. One day I'm sure she'll be a writer or maybe even ruler of a small country. She's a blast!" She paused to take breath and sip at her cappuccino.

"Then there's Rix." She seemed to get lost in her own thoughts for a moment before continuing. "He's wonderful. But I get the feeling he's keeping something from the family and it's slowly killing him. I wish he'd tell someone what was bothering him. I really hate to see him so sad." She looked up at him before blushing. "I'm sorry. I guess I started rambling again. The simple answer would be 'Yes. I have seven siblings total and mostly we get along fine'." She started to laugh again.

Trey smiled back quietly at Vynn and continued to while she spoke. It dropped only momentarily when Vynn frowned at the topic of her estranged older brother. He thought about how his siblings might have reacted to his absence. Were they also saddened by it? Are they still?

Vynn perked back up quickly, though, as she continued to describe her siblings. Trey enjoyed learning about all of them and hearing Vynn gush about them. He even felt concern when she explained about her brother, Rix.

Once Vynn was finished, Trey chuckled in response to her laugh. "I liked hearing you talk, so don't feel bad about rambling." He smiled easily at her, the laughter still in his eyes. "They all sound very interesting. You're lucky to have such a lively family." Trey took a sip of his decaf, wincing a bit at the searing heat. "I only have four siblings; an older brother, two younger sisters, and a younger brother."

He wasn't sure if he wanted to turn the topic around to something possibly upsetting to Vynn, but Trey could not quiet his need to ask. "Do you think what is troubling Rix might be... dangerous?" Trey paused before deciding to give her an option out. "It's alright if you do not wish to talk about this with me. I understand some things are better kept within the family."

"That's good. Morrgona is always complaining that I talk to much!" She smiled over at him as he mentioned his siblings. "Do you get along well?" She bit her lip feeling silly. Probably not since he hasn't spoken to his family recently. Way to stick a foot in your mouth Vynn. She shook her head and quickly changed the subject when she was given the chance. "No. I don't mind talking about it with you. It helps me think things through clearly." She paused for a while as she though hard on the question.

"I don't think its dangerous. Maybe I'm overreacting, since its something he can't or won't tell me. And we usually tell each other everything. I think its just something he doesn't know how to say, or can't decide if he wants to say even." She shrugged and laughed it off. "I guess all I can do is try and be patient until he feels up to telling us."

"I did get along with my litter mates before I left," Trey said politely answering Vynn's question. He didn't bother to go on as Vynn obviously felt bad about breaching the topic from their first meeting. It was odd, but for once Trey actually felt like he wanted to talk about it. Yet at the same time he also didn't want Vynn to think ill of him. And she would, he felt, if he told her just how stupid he had been.

Because of this, Trey was content with listening as Vynn related her own troubles, grabbing the chance to escape from his own confused feelings. Now wasn't the time to worry about how she would react to his story, he had to be here to help her through her own. Trey was relieved to hear that Vynn did not feel her brother was in trouble and was merely holding himself back.

"That's good." He sighed, before realizing how cold that could sound. "Ah! That he's not in danger, I mean. I'm sure the fact that he won't open up to you is troubling, even if I can't relate." Without thinking Trey reached out his hand and grasped Vynn's forearm. "I'm sure when he's ready, you'll be the first one he talks to." Trey smiled and hoped that those useless words could be enough to comfort his friend.

She smiled briefly as he mentioned that in the past he'd had a good relationship with his siblings, relieved that she hadn't brought up a touchy subject. Still, she didn't push her luck to ask how the relationship was now. She laughed as he continued on a bit flustered. She had known what he meant when he said 'That's good', but she left it to herself. With a sigh she nodded and shrugged. "Like I said, I'm sure I'm overreacting, but its still comforting to hear you say that." She took another sip of her coffee and decided to change the subject. "It really is nice to see you again." She beamed across the table at him. "We should do this more often!"

Trey nodded solemnly while Vynn concluded her story. "I'm glad I can be of use, even in such a small way." He inadvertently mirrored her as she took a sip, though he did not mean to. As she shifted the subject, Trey returned her smile. "Yes, this meeting gave me something to look forward to while I was working."

Trey couldn't help but blush as Vynn suggested meeting up more. He wasn't used to being asked to hang out. In the past it had been run-ins that kept his friendships up. Trey decided he liked knowing that he could ask for another chance to talk, rather than hoping they'd stumble across each other. "I think so too," Trey said simply.

Trey shifted a bit before clearing his throat. He wanted to know more about Vynn but felt odd asking any of the obvious questions. Still, they were the only ones he could think of. Embarrassment would just have to be dealt with later. "So, uh, what else do you like besides coffee?" He shook his cup lightly to indicate the beverage inside.
