(( I'm going to skip to them getting off the ship. ))

"Lavi...you lead the way," Cross spoke quietly to him as they exited the ship.

There were four camels waiting at the foot of the wooden ramp; One for each traveler, and one for baggage. The camels stood chewing their cud, tails swishing lazily. The heat was dry across the Sahara and a harsh wind kicked up the fine-grained, golden sand. Cross turned his head away from the direction the wind came from, careful not to get the sand in his eyes, regardless of the protection his glasses provided.

He had been on a camel many times, so he needed no help in coaxing his to lay down so he could climb atop its back. Before he did so though, he turned to help Sil with her camel, making a clicking noise at the lazy animal.

"Climb on and I'll pack all the bags onto the spare," he took all of the bags and started loading the fourth camel, "And welcome to Egypt," he smiled, but it couldn't be seen behind his scarves which covered his mouth.

The heat of the Egyptian desert opposed to the cold, wintery weather back home was a change Lavi had to get used to for a bit. He wasn't sure if he liked it, as he had always been partial to the cold. He was glad, though, to finally get back onto dry land after the long journey via ship.

He took a few seconds to get completely in his role as guide before stepping forward, leading their little group to the camels, his robes swishing around him. "Come now, Mister and beautiful Wife." he told them in an Arabic accent, indicating the camels. He soothingly rubbed the animal their noses, speaking to them in perfect Arabic, as if he did this kind of thing every day.

As Cross was loading their bags onto the fourth camel, he offered to help Sil onto hers after it bent down. After skillfully climbing on top of his own and all of them seemed ready, he lightly patted his camel and it stood up, slowly starting to move in the direction Lavi was steering him in. Cross had divulged their first destination to him on the ship beforehand, so he knew where to go like a proper guide.

Sil was happy for once to be wrapped in what felt like fifteen layers of soft cloth and skirts swirling around every inch of her body, because if anyone could have seen all of her face she was positively green. To little surprise the boat trip made her ill more times than she could count, never dealing with sea fare with any kind of grace. Despite the ill feeling still gnawing at her insides, as she looked around the new surroundings her uncovered eyes went wide with awe and admiration. Even without the rest of her expression, it was simple to tell that the sight of the desert and its vastness brought her no end of interest.

“Thank you,” she nodded gently to Lavi, hiding a smile behind the black cloth wrapped around her head and face to keep her modest. It was strange seeing any of them dressed this way, and even stranger to see Lavi with dark skin pulling out his excellent skills of changing and blending into his surroundings. If she had spoken any Arabic at all, she wouldn’t have suspected Lavi were not native in the language.

However, once she was back on the camel gripping the reigns, she couldn’t help but think of the creature as nothing more than a furry ocean waiting to escalate her sickness further. The reigns felt odd and foreign in her bare palmed grip, no longer used to feeling items in her hands without glove between them. The familiar engagement ring was placed back on her delicate left finger, drawing an extra glint of attention beneath the hot sun. “Honey,” she said in a slightly exasperated and whiney voice, like the normal European wife who was simply here to make sure her husband wasn’t getting himself into trouble of the female variety on his expedition. “How long will we be on these beastly creatures? I don’t know how I feel about riding on animals that like to spit... and the flies..."

He wanted a wife, he was sure as hell going to get one. However, despite her words she stroked the camels neck gently, urging the creature to be gentle on her during this long trip.

Cross just chuckled behind his scarf at Sil's attitude. He knew she wasn't really that much of a whiner; in fact she was the opposite. She was trying him and he knew it. She should know better than to play this game...he smirked to himself.

"Darling, darling. I told you before we left that it would be at least a day's journey to civilization. You could have stayed home and pampered yourself," he climbed onto his own camel and urged it to stand. He tied the lead of the pack camel to a ring on the saddle of his own and walked his camel up next to Sil's.

"Don't worry, I'll give you a nice back rub when we get to where we're staying," he placed a hand at her back and patted it gently, leaning in to give her a kiss on the cheek through all their scarves, "Follow closely."

He kicked his camel into motion again and nodded his head at Lavi, giving the indication to start their long trek towards Cairo. They needed to get there before dark because once the sun went down, the desert would become a frigid wasteland. The temperature extremes in the Sahara were no joke, as Cross had learned the hard way once upon a time.

Lavi pulled his scarf up to cover the lower part of his face and grinned at Sil's words, enjoying how everyone was getting into their roles so easily. He decided not to focus too much on the affection the two would have to show in order to portray a convincing married couple, even if he couldn't help but be a little bit miffed about it as he watched Cross lean in towards her for a kiss on the cheek. He wondered just when he had become so against their relationship again. He shook his head. This wasn't the time to ponder about those kinds of things.

Along the way, he gave elaborate explanations of the numerous sights to Sil and Cross in his Arabic accent, as many other guides were doing for groups of travellers alongside them. Mostly for keeping up appearances, but also because he thought Sil might appreciate this, as she seemed very interested in it all. Halfway to their destination he decided, however, to follow a different path, one he knew to be shorter. Once the other groups had disappeared into the distance, he addressed Cross, dropping the accent. "So, what's the plan once we reach Cairo?"

Sil knew she should have expected Cross to rise to the occasion, challenging her back with his own doting husband attitude. The entire situation felt all too familiar yet completely foreign at the same time, but she managed to let out an exasperated sigh. “I’m here to support you, dear. But you know that next time we go gallivanting into third world countries, we could at least take a detour to my sister’s place in Milan where people are still… civilized,” the last word dipped with distaste. She would have whipped out a fan and waved it at herself haughtily had she one, trying not to laugh at her own ridiculous lies. However, anyone who looked closely at her face could see the awe and wonderment in her eyes as she viewed this foreign horizon, a wasteland of golden sand and endless sunshine.

She carefully leaned into the kiss, the feeling that washed over her strange and uncomfortable; somewhere between that disgusting feeling of gnawing guilt and nostalgia. However, she nodded her head ever so slightly to indicate she had gotten his message and carefully spurred the camel onward. Luckily for her, the particular group of camels seemed to be used to traveling in packs. She hadn’t any experience riding horses, let alone a camel—all she could do was make assumptions based on what she had seen before and adapt as well as she could by watching Cross and Lavi. It suited the look of the European inexperienced wife well, as she didn’t look steady nor experienced by any sense of the word.

The newness, the awkwardness, made the trip already very exciting and entertaining to her. She had never seen Lavi take on a roll quite as extensively as he had this mission, and she was barely able to contain her laughter at his accent. Even if it was only an act, she appreciated hearing the information and learning things she had never known before, feeling genuinely excited about the history of their surroundings and the torrid legends that swirled around them. After enough time listening to the lull of his voice explaining their surroundings and the sights around with them, it started to become a normal tone to hear, and she was almost surprised by the sudden break in accent back to Lavi’s normal lilt.

“I’m wondering that same thing, Isshou,” Sil said, taking their moment without the eyes of others on them to tug down the bottom of her head wrap to take a smooth breath. Even though it was rather hot outside, the air felt cool compared to how breathing felt with a covering over her lips. “Is this trip related to our last trip?”

She also grinned at Lavi for a moment, her lips visible for only that slim second before she tucked the wrapping back around her face to hide nothing but the smooth curve of her almond eyes. "Nice touch with the tour, by the way. That was some pretty interesting stuff you threw in there. The things about the Gods... that's all real legend, huh? I should grab some books on that when I get a chance. Anubis sounds interesting as hell... no pun intended."

"I'm glad you're enjoying the trip so far. I thought you'd really like it here, that's why I chose it. You can relax here, and it should be easier for you to work with your Innocence under less stressful conditions," he smiled a bit at Sil.

"As for Cairo....yes, it has to do with our last mission. I need to collect some more information. It's even more essential as last time we were so rudely interrupted, and I was unable to retrieve the information...it was a great setback," he said with a bit of a grave tone.

"However, I should be able to duplicate the missing information, and this time I won't fail to retrieve what we need," he added.

He watched Sil in all her excitement, paying close attention to her eyes, which he could see were lit with admiration for the land. He was pleased that she was really enjoying herself, and he thought that it was a good idea after all, to bring her here. After recent events, everyone needed something of a distraction, some work and some play mixed in to quiet the storm. He hoped that after this at least, things would be better between them. He was still a mixture of emotions over everything, especially after the way Anita had said her goodbye to him. But he wanted more than anything to be close to Sil again, even just in friendship. He loved her as a person, and he missed being on pleasant terms with her. I still need her...she's become a real confidant. I don't want to lose that.

"It will most likely be dusk by the time we arrive in Cairo, so we'll go right to the hotel we'll be staying at. Sil, you and I will be in the same room, to keep up appearances - but I have requested separate beds, so don't give me that look. Lavi will be in the room next to us. We can spend tonight out on the town if it pleases you, and tomorrow we'll track down the information. If we get to it early enough, we can spend tomorrow afternoon at the market. I think you'll really enjoy that," he informed them both.

"Yep, every word was true. In the way that I didn't make it up, of course. I wouldn't know if these Gods actually exist. This country has a fascinating history, though." He told Sil, returning her grin, glad she enjoyed his little guided tour. "I can tell you some more about Anubis and his friends when we have the time."

Absent-mindedly patting his camel as they trotted ever forward at a brisk speed, he listened to Cross' words and wondered what sort of information he was looking for in Cairo. From what little he knew of Cross, he wasn't entirely sure this was innocent business he was involved in.

At the mention of sleeping arrangements, his face fell slightly, although this expression was masked by the scarf covering his face. It was obvious, of course, that Sil and Cross would be sharing a hotel room, they were supposed to be a married couple, after all. Lavi couldn't help but feel, however, that it would be a restless night for him, imagining all kinds of things going on in the room next to him.

"The markets, yeah... You'll like that. The smells are amazing." He smiled at Sil, once again unseen beneath his coverings, but maybe his eyes still betrayed the expression. He tugged the reins on his camel, making the animal move slightly more towards the right. He'd only ever been here once, but he remembered this shortcut to the capital as if he'd used it many times.

A chill rushed over her as she wondered if they were in similar danger that they were in their last trip. The last time they had done anything involving Cross’s information gathering there were Noah swarming around like sharks on fresh blood. They seemed all too interested in just about everything that Cross was doing, and she really hoped that this trip had been put under wraps enough where no information had been leaked. “You’re confident that your contact hasn’t been compromised already, this time…?” She glanced at Lavi, wondering if it might be dangerous that he had been brought along on this little adventure. It didn’t take a genius to know that anything that Cross was involved with could lead to some deep trouble down the line. “There’s no established branch of the Order down here either, is there? I remember hearing some rumors that they may build up the African Branch here in Cairo, but other than that this area is kind of… ah… the wild west, so to speak.”

Of course when Cross started talking about the living arrangements, Sil had opened her mouth immediately to argue w just as he thought she would, her mouth falling to a shut once he told her that there were two separate beds. It made the situation less uncomfortable, that was for sure, but she didn’t like the idea of them being separated from one another when there was no telling what was lurking in this uncharted area. Much like the rumors of what Edo had become, she wondered what kind of grey area they were traversing into, but she was too afraid to hear Cross’s opinion on the subject.

“Market?” She perked up instantly, squirming a little atop her camel trying to get some feelings back in her legs. The distraction was very welcome and she smiled a little. “That sounds great… I can pick up the last of my Christmas presents perhaps, and get it all done and over with… I bet they’ll have a much more unique collection of things.”

At the mention of smells though, Sil instantly thought of food and her stomach growled loudly. As if it might quiet it, her hand fell atop the soft fabrics of red and gold just above it, willing it to be quiet. “… Don’t mention food right now… I have no idea how I’m going to eat on this trip. It’s like a totally unnecessary parasitic Innocence diet, but I'm pretty sure if I eat anywhere near what I usually do it might get some eyebrows up. I'm not responsible for how much I hate everyone until this trip is over and Jerry's cooking is back in my life," her face went blank, contemplative for a moment. "And don't even think about trying to trick me into anything. I won't touch anything that looks like it had an exoskeleton or remotely resembles brain."

(( We have to skip the market and research. sad

Pretend that it was awesome. LOL. Sil knows what to do after this post.

Oasis ))

They had been successful in retrieving the missing research, and everything was running smoothly. They had even had time to spend at the market, which all three of them had enjoyed immensely. With Sil relaxed in the new atmosphere, it was the perfect time to move on and commence with training. Cross had everything packed, and Lavi was waiting downstairs for he and Sil. Grabbing all their things, they both headed down to continue the journey.

It took a couple days to make it to the Oasis; what Cross has said about it being secluded was an understatement - It was in the middle of nowhere, days from the closest city in all directions. However, Cross liked it that way, and despite the risk they ran of dying from lack of water or food, he'd wouldn't have chosen any other spot.

The Oasis was serene, to say the least. A vast, deep pool of sparkling blue water resided at one end, complete with a large, cascading waterfall. At the other end, there was more than enough room to spar, a flat surface of hard clay stretching out across the area. The entire Oasis itself was sunken, a couple hundred feet below the surface of the desert. The way out or in was a long, lightly sloped pathway that made one full circle around the place from top to bottom. Trees sprouted all around, casting a dense, cooling shade, blocking out the harshly beating sun. If they didn't have to train, it would have been a wonderful vacation spot.

Cross had already explained to Lavi what his duties were, "I know that Sil is your greatest friend. But I need you to go all out on her. Do not hold back when you're sparring, Lavi. If you do, it will only be a detriment to her. The point of this exercise is to push her to, and past, her limit. If her life isn't in danger, she will never accomplish her goal of increased synchronization. She has to learn this the hard way. I trust you to follow these instructions."

Cross had also had a word with Sil concerning a theory about her Innocence, "Your Innocence is two fragments of a whole, Sil. They are compatible and complimentary to one another, and they should be used together in such a way. Think about this deeply when you're training; it's the key to unlocking everything for you."

Once they arrived at the Oasis, Cross explained how they would be sparring together. He would have to leave for some time, another matter of importance which he did not explain, as usual. His last words to the pair as he left them were simply this, a chuckle following his warning:

"And watch out for the water...you never know what might be lurking in the depths of the dark blue abyss."
