DEATHSWEEPER

General Information
The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.

If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.

If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.

    Mechanics
  • roll 1 d10
  • check for hp loss and death
  • decide whether or not to use your bonuses
  • if you survive, repeat.
  • roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!
  • -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. live
    04. live
    05. - 50% HP
    06. - 50% HP
    07. horrible death
    08. - 50% HP
    09. live
    10. horrible death

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.

(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

  • Trainees: 1 flag
  • Death Trainees: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Hunters: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Death Hunters: 1 flag + 2 instinctive moves

Bix had needed to try more of the courses once he'd learned that Cass had tried and completed all of them. How could he hope to progress if he wasn't putting himself out there?

It was his first time knowingly using a C-Type golem and it felt slightly clumsy but since he was required to fight for this course it seemed to be fine. He stretched in it first, looking down at the roughly hewn version of himself. He then looked to the course which, for now, looked simply like a cavern with a tiled floor.

Mina?
She was silent. A protest, he felt, for him not doing a course that she could be used in.
Whatever. Suit yourself.
Ssssuit YOURSEELF. She pouted.

"Here goes nothing."

Bix stepped forward in his first step only to a series of dart fire from the wall and stick up the side of his golem.

"That barely hu.." And then the dart exploded. His golem shuddered and he howled in pain, the whole side of him now scorched and blistering. "This.. is no joke."

He paused before moving on, this time attempting to use a discerning eye to make his choice. Perhaps he would be able to see trap triggers? He doubted it. This course had been installed to kill you without fail. Eventually you would die. That was the idea.

"Pfft. Death hunters." Finding no hints, he took another step.

[ USING FLAG! 8 becomes 9 ]

On his next step he wasn't so helpless. As his foot hit the tile it slid away to reveal a pit of acid. He bobbled in place but managed to avoid it, instead hopping to the side. Thankfully this tile was safe and he was still alive.

"s**t." The exploding darts had done a number on him and so he stood for a second, holding his side. "May not do as well on this one as I did on Shadow Run.." He chuckled painfully. Did H really have to make these golems so real? Also was he talking to himself?

Yes.

Time to continue. He was tired, not able to scout ahead accurately. He would not be as lucky on his next trap, he just knew it.

Bix took his next step gingerly. Nothing happened. He eased his weight onto the next tile and realized it felt really strange. Really strange. It was kind of soft, bouncy. He even bounced on it a moment, smirking curiously. The bouncing had been a bad decision on his part.

The tile began to rumble and then move and what had looked like normal tile split apart and wrinkled. A strange yawning noise came from the slowly opening crack but Bix's feet were sliding and he didn't have a chance to move. The sliding tile revealed gaping teeth, the strange material shifting like lips. It gaped, it's teeth gnashing, and he danced around on top of it.

"AH! WHAT THE HELL!?" He was dancing on his tip toes until the inevitable happened. His foot slipped and his leg fell down into the gaping maw. CRUNCH!

Goddamn these golems! Bix could feel it bit his leg off. The pain was dizzying, he felt like he was blacking out.

CRUNCH!

He felt suddenly disembodied. Was that his other leg? The last thing he heard was the displeasure of the thing as it realized that all it was munching on was mud and bone dust.
