Zurine the padfoot would find a note on expensive paper jammed under her dorm room door. The envelope was slightly wrinkled as if it had been jammed under several doors before but then ripped out from underneath when the deliverer realized it was the wrong room. Quote: Dear Zurine-
I find you quite charming and have admired you from afar. Please meet my by the dead Elm on the lawn of the monster dorms at midnight tonight.
~Your secret Admirer The tree in question was not far from the dorms but in the blackness of the night it was unlit by campus lighting. It would be a secret meeting indeed!

Zurine had come back to her dorm after class and nearly trod upon the wrinkled letter before she noticed it. curious she bent over to pick it up, straightening out its wrinkles a bit before opening it. She hadn't really been expecting any mail and to be honest she was a touch nervous about opening the envelope to begin with - what if it was filled with itching powder or something like she had heard some of the older students liked to torment the younger ones with?
It turned out to be no such thing however and she was slightly intrigue when she pulled a piece of paper out. Who would be sending her a message? Of course that question was promptly answered as she read the short scrawled note. A secret admirer? Already? She hadn't even been at the school for all that long!
Of course this was just to intriguing and flattering not to respond too and so as the minutes counted down to midnight Zurine found herself wandering up to the dead elm the note had described. Glancing about she tried to peer through the darkness but thus far couldn't see any sign of whomever had left her the note.

There was only the sound of crickets. Despite being dead, the elm was covered in greying leaves which rustled dryly in the night time breeze. Zurine stood out a bit, white fur glowing a bit under the pumpkin moon. Her 'mysterious admirer' perhaps was being a bit cruel by playing this trick but it had been part of his assignment to 'be romantic'. Muka was hiding up in the tree in his natural form. The unnaturally large owl cracked an eye to make sure she had arrived but was essentially invisible amongst the dry foliage. A twig snapped loudly from behind the tree. It wasn't his doing but it would help to set a spooky scene. He'd already painted his feather face with glow in the dark paint but he was hiding the grisly visage with his wing, not revealing the plot until the precise moment. "Zuuuriiiinee..." He hissed her name spookily and it drifted from the tree with little clue as to the direction it came from.

Having looked around the area quite well - I mean really there wasn't all that many places to look, Zurine was begining to wonder if she had read the note wrong, or perhaps gotten the time wrong at the very least. "Hello?" She called out into the darkness "Is anyone there?"
Only silence seemed to answer her question, well silence and the trees rattling leaves and a few crickets who were chirping away quite happily somewhere. A twig snapped somewhere off in the darkness and Zurine couldn't help but jump a little bit at the noise. "Hello?" She called out again ,peering in the direction and even taking a few steps towards the direction she had thought the sound had come from. Perhaps this secret admirer of hers had just arrived.

Ulmuka was grinning, a bit thrilled to be pulling off this scare. It didn't dawn on him that a nice ghoul may get a little angry for pulling this prank on her. "Zuuurrrriiiinnnneeee.." His voice was a bit screechy now. "I'm here for YOU!!" The giant, six-foot tall owl, burst from the tree and swooped down at her. Leaves scattered around him but you could barely tell his shape because of the darkness. There was glow in the dark skull (although a bit sloppy) painted onto his face and giant yellow eyes accompanied by an ear piercing shriek. His beak snapped at the air around her and his talons reached for her but didn't grab. He was just trying to spook her afterall!

For the second time in a row Zurine could have sworn that someone clled her name - although in an incredibly creepy and drawn out manner that made her wonder just what sort of person she had been lured out here to meet. Of course almost as soon as she thought this A flash of movement from the corner of her eye caught her attention and she half turned to see what it was when her mind registered the glowing and the dark blur it belonged to flinging itself out of the tree towards her.
Completely caught off guard Zurine screamed and threw the only thing she happened to be holding - the slightly crumpled letter - at the looming glowing blob before she turned and dashed off. Sadly in typical clumsy Zurine fashion the poor padfoot only managed to go a couple of steps before her foot caught on a root and sent her sprawling into the dirt. She was however far to scared, an emotion she thought entirely reasonable considering the insanity she'd witnessed in the forest not to long ago, to really pay much attention to the fact that she might have hurt herself and simply attempted to scramble to her feet. "STAY AWAY FROM ME!!" She shrieked as she scrabbled across the ground, form wavering slightly as she nearly shifted to better affect her get away.

Ulmuka thought it was pretty funny and it seemed his attempt was successful. Despite his threatening swoop, he landed on the ground with a bit of a hop. "Zurine!" He was trying to alleviate her fear but with his screechy voice it may not have been very reassuring, especially not since he was chuckling a bit. "Don't run!" He hopped after her, concentrating hard on shifting to his humanoid form. There was a cracking sound like bones and sinew stretching and rearranging and suddenly there was a pale skinned boil in pinstripes snickering and following behind her. The glow in the dark paint on his face was a bit of a mess, not translating well between shifts, and now he looked like a pale ghosty thing running after her in the mooonlight. "It was just for homework!" He choked it out between wheezing giggles.

It was still after her! and it was very obviously the thing that had been calling her name and what in the name of the nine hells was that horrible sound it was making? Zurine chanced a glance over her shoulder as she gained her feet at long last and found not a strange flying creature but something far different - it was pale..and it's face looked a bit odd with glowing bits all over the place and...and it was babbling something about homework.
Homework?!? HOMEWORK! All thought of escape left Zurine as she spun around with narrowed angry eyes, she hadn't been paying attention to everything he had said before - she'd been far to scared - but now it was starting to dawn on her and she was not happy. Not happy at all!
"That wasn't funny!" She raged at the pinstriped boil that was laughing at her...whom she recognized now that he was close enough to see in the moonlight. She stormed towards him though she had no idea what she was going to do when she got to him - smack him maybe? It was an enticing thought.

"I'm sorry! The teacher told me to use romance to scare!" He still snickered but she was obviously bothered by it so Muka did his best to try and stop. "So sorry!" Zurine had turned and was coming at him. The strix was a bit worried as her whole pose suggested coiled up tension, anger maybe? Would the bird boil be beaten or smacked or shoved? Oh no! He must be nice to ghouls! Perhaps his choice of 'scare' had been in bad taste? The idea had not dawned on him until now. "I will make it up to you somehow!" He screeched and threw himself at Zurine, wrapping his arms around her in an apologetic hug. The strix loved affectionate contact. Hopefully the padfoot ghoul wouldn't pound him into a pulp...

Zurine fully intended to smack the bird boil silly, in fact an entire collage of mental images paraded through her mind in her rage as suitable punishments for his little prank, and she wasn't going to take the whole 'it was only homework' or 'the teacher told me to' as an excuse either!
Of course it was while she was working herself up into this fine fit of rage that the bird boil threw himself at her and..hugged her. Zurine blinked as Muka pinned her arms to her sides with the unexpected hug and further apology - nothing really took the wind out of your sails when you were angry like a hug and she certainly hadn't been expecting this particular tactic on his part. She had expected him to keep laughing..or maybe run away which would have been satisfying in and of itself..but hug her? That was enough to shock her somewhat out of her anger and she stood dumbfounded for a few moments while she tried to figure out what to say.
"Ummm....okay?" Was the first thing that managed to tumble out and she didn't really think it did the whole situation justice so she attempted to reconnect with at least a little bit of her earlier anger. "That wasn't very nice you know, what kind of teacher would come up with such a sick homework assignment?"

"Acting class!" Muka piped up, quick to blame it on the teacher. "He said I should be charming and use it to scare someone." He snickered but then stopped because she didn't seem to appreciate the humor in it. "I think you are nice though.." The strix bobbled his head in confirmation while wiping his face on a spider-silk handkerchief he produced from his pocket. "And we are both new. Perhaps it was a bad method.." He pondered and tapped his cheek with a dangerous looking talon. "You looked pretty tough though!" he tried to cheer her up with a compliment. "Like you were really going to beat me up!"

Acting class huh? Well Zurine certainly recalled that teacher and she had to admit that he did seem like the type who would come up with such an assignment. Of course that still didn't mean she thought the joke had been all that funny - at least from her side of things although likely in a day or so once the adrenaline of the whole event stopped she might consider it a funny story and be able to laugh at it.
"I don't know if there is a good way to be both charming and scary" She finally relented. "Regardless of what you did someone was not likely to appreciate it" She added with a slight shrug - somewhat mollified by the fact that he said she was nice and tough..though she didn't think that screaming and running away was all that tough - she had been startled is all, she'd certainly been meaning to smack him around once that had subsided. She chuckled a little bit "Yeah..well I seriously thought about trying" She admitted although having noticed his claws she pointed out "Though with talons like that I imagine you could have protected yourself just fine"

"Oh I would never claw up a ghoul. I would have deserved it." He snickered, seemingly alright with being beaten up by her should it have happened. "I suppose we both need to improve. I need to change my method and you need to not be so scared!" He was teasing of course, he poked her playfully. The strix was treating the padfoot as if they were old friends, despite only having just met her. "It's late.. would you like me to escort you back to the dorms?" He offered his arm like a gentlemonster and gave her a large jagged smile.

Zurine quirked an eyebrow at the Strix's teasing, though the look on her face made it apparent that she wasn't at all offended by what he had said . "Hey if you had seen what you looked like swooping out of the tree with that creepy paint on your face you would have been a little bit freaked out too" She protested with a smile before agreeing to his escort by taking his arm. "I suppose this is the least you can do after all of that" She agreed - besides, it would be boring to walk all the way back to the dorms on her own. at least now she would have someone to talk to.
((Sorry for the slow response! Damned holidays! lol ))

"How about this.." The strix patted her hand as it looped on his arm. His head turned, side to side and almost all the way around just to make sure there wasn't something actually scary lurking around, before facing front again. "I will take you for a nice time. without scaring. To make up for it!" The strix didn't realize that he sounded like he was asking her on a date. He just thought he was doing something nice in an attempt to say sorry. His bird brain did not even absorb the further implications. "Perhaps dinner or something?" He grinned.
