Juno ❖❖❖❖❖ NAMEJunoESSENCE / / ANIMALChrysanthemum Carrier PigeonMAGICAL AFFINITYTeleportation - One of the most well known magics, teleportation is the ability to instantaneously move from one location to another without physically occupying the space in between. Look in any fantasy novel or comic book and there's bound to be a handful of characters who can use this ability (and make it seem easy too).
While on paper teleportation seems like the easiest thing in the world, it - like most things in life - is really not. For starters the one teleporting (and this includes Juno herself) has to picture the place she wishes to teleport to in their mind - and be accurate about it. If a detail is out of place, the magic will not work and the one teleporting will remain where they are. This can be especially damning in stressful situations if the teleporter is unable to recall a location at a moment's notice.
Of course, there are more limits, and Juno herself is limited in a couple more ways beyond just that. These limits include being only able to teleport a certain number of times per day (5 to start perhaps?) and even then only being able to teleport over certain distances. If she was particularly far away from her destination, she would have to make a series of little "jumps" to places she has been between her current location and her destination. This, of course, depletes the number of teleports she has that day and if used unwisely could lead to her or her User being stranded without one another. Forcing an extra teleport could harm her and/or lead to her being stranded and of course overusing her magic does leave her fatigued in general. What's more, teleporting more than just herself and a message or two makes things infinitely harder on her and thus causes her great strain (and perhaps using up an extra one of her daily teleports because of the added magic needed for it).APPEARANCEStage 1 - As a newly born Guardian and a member of the Homunculi faction as well, Juno is a delicate cross of animal and plant at this stage. In this case, she is half carrier pigeon and half chrysanthemum, with the former just slightly overtaking the latter in this stage.
The majority of Juno's appearance is pigeon. She is the size of your average carrier pigeon and is able to sit comfortably on Caven's shoulder. Her feathers (the ones that are true feathers that is) are colored dark gray with touches of lighter gray here and there - most prominently shown on her belly. Her operculum is also that light shade of gray. When it comes to Juno's eyes, beak, and feet, all three are the same shade of vivid orange. This offsets the grays nicely and works well with the flowered aspects of her light form.
When it comes to her Homunculi aspects, Juno's flowery bits are both distinguishable and not. The former is easily spotted as she has a ring of chrysanthemum petals around and stemming from her neck. She has full control over these and will regularly close them to hide from something scary or embarrassing. When not doing that with them, typically they would be only closed for sleep - which she uses to the fullest effect when night falls. Other easily spotted petal-feathers are at her legs, where her feathers stop and the skin begins. These petals curl around her legs and don't seem to serve a purpose like her necklace of petals.
Now while those petals are easily spotted, the other petals on her body are not so simply even though they are blatantly there. Given the gradient of dark gray to light gray on her wings, the white of her longest feathers just seem fitting as the next step. However, upon closer inspection and perhaps a touch, it's clear that true feathers become soft chrysanthemum petals. This is also the same for her tail, just with the lack of light gray surrounding.PERSONALITYWhere Caven is bold, overconfident, and tactless (to narrow things down) Juno is...not. Saying she's 'afraid of everything ever' may not be an overstatement, but there's definitely no understating the fact that the pigeon is timid and fearful of people and the world around her. It's not something she can help; pigeons aren't exactly birds of prey or at the top of the food chain, which leaves Juno with an innate fear of things bigger than her, especially if they move. When faced with such a thing, don't be surprised if Juno ducks behind her User's head and closes the petals of her neck around her own in the process with only one or two open to peek.
With the timidity comes the act of Juno being flustered and easily so. It seems even the littlest things make the pigeon avert her eyes in an embarrassed manner. It surprises her User, then, that she's able to teleport back to any place she's been to at all, given the mechanic behind it. But when she's not flustered or hiding from a cat that looked at her funny, Juno is very observant. People, animals, her surroundings...She's always on the look out and aware of others around her. She may miss subtle emotions now and again like anyone, but for the most part she's on top of things, especially her surroundings. Teleportation is tricky in the best of times, but it is rendered impossible when one cannot picture where they want to go. As such, she'll spend hours memorizing the details of a single building to ensure it's stuck in her head, just in case.
That said, it's probably no stunning fact to hear Juno is quiet. As a messenger for a Scout, her job is to relay information back to those in charge and not be seen while doing it. She takes this role seriously, but even if she wasn't, the pigeon would still be as soft spoken as she is. She has trouble speaking up for herself - a degree of self consciousness and general fear of being under someone's eye - and if put on the spot will display all the signs of stage fright and insecurity. She has a hard time standing up for herself and is definitely more a follower than a leader. However, she is still a sweet individual underneath and is not anti-social. She does try to say 'hello' to people; it's just she ends up stopping herself and hiding the moment eyes are upon her. Yes, she lacks confidence even though she does make attempts - as feeble and quickly dropped as they are - to overcome it.
The last few things to say about Juno are simple things. While she is not prone to anxiety attacks, if someone she cares about has something happen to them, her mind immediately goes to the worst possible thing before anything else, then dips off into lists of other horrible things right after. As stated before takes her job as a messenger very seriously to the point where she doubts and frets about being able to relay what Caven writes back to those in charge. She doesn't handle stress well either for that matter and adding self doubt to the mix can make it harder for her magic to perform to standard, alarming and frustrating her to no end.FONT COLOROrange Red

Caven ❖❖❖❖❖ NAMECaven LockeAGE18 Graduating the Academy (about to receive Guardian)OCCUPATION / / CLASSButcher's apprentice ScoutMAGICAL AFFINITYGeokinesis - Also known as 'Geomancy' or simply 'Earth Manipulation'. This magic is, simply, the ability to control earth; including sand, stone, rock, lava, dirt, glass, metal, and other minerals. Powers revolving around this magic include (but are not limited to) pelting opponents with rocks, hurling boulders, causing earthquakes, and making armor out of various earthen materials.
Given he is young still, Caven is limited to soil, stone/rock, and sand and he is otherwise untrained and unfamiliar with wielding other earth properties (for now). At best he can make a gauntlet of stone (provided stones or rocks are available), raise a small amount of path in front of him up a few inches, and throw stones at his opponents without using his hands (his easiest technique). If he strains, he might be able to make a defensive wall of soil, but that drains him big time.
His powers are no weaker than any other User, but being how he is, Caven was certain he'd be better than others at using his abilities and is constantly let down by his limitations and the drawback to his powers. For the most part as he stands now, he can keep a stone gauntlet together for two to four minutes before it falls apart on him. Rocks can only be thrown so far and his "raging sandstorms" are merely handful-sized ribbons of sand thrown at his opponents eyes. He can make small 'tents' of stone (if it is available), but they are just that - small, very much cramped, and extremely crude.
The drawbacks to overusing his power (which he does often enough when frustrated or trying to prove himself) are of course power draining/loss and fatigue of various degrees - the greatest of which has been being out cold for a few days. If he doesn't prepare a layer of soil around his fist before adding the rocks, he can damage his hand upon making a gauntlet and if he's not careful when it breaks apart, a stone or seven could land on his foot and damage the bones there too.APPEARANCE6'0", solid, and stocky; Caven is your typical Scout as far as physical builds go. Drills, exercising, training, and an active lifestyle leave this eighteen year old with hardened calves, defined arms, and a noticeable - but not fully developed - cut of muscle on his gut. His skin is tanned from working outdoors, and his head is topped with a crop of red hair that's cut short and close to his scalp. Caven is generally clean shaven, but can and will sport a five o'clock shadow on occasion if and when he forgets or forgoes taking a razor to his face. When it comes to that aspect of himself, Caven has a wide brow over light gray eyes. Given he is a larger boy, his nose fits this as well but does not have the Roman curve that would make it distinguished. He is unmarred by piercings or tattoos but does have a collection of smalls scars and blemishes on his form.
As far as clothing goes, he is often found wearing what one would figure of a Scout. Light shirts, sturdy pants, breathable fabrics...If it can be found on the typical Scout, it'll likely be found in one of Caven's drawers. He prefers tunics as far as shirts go, however, and will don those in most colors - though preferably muted rather than overly bright - when in Mistwick. When on missions, these would become earthen colors to blend into the landscape when not covered and/or exchanged for thicker clothing.PERSONALITYBeing the youngest of a family with four rowdy boys meant Caven had to learn to be tough at a young age to survive various pranks, fights, taunts, teases, and other brotherly habits. As such, he's by far not the most gentle boy you'll ever meet, instead being a young man with a personality akin to a rowdy frat boy that occasionally borders on bully-like.
Caven is, simply put, a rough young man; especially around the edges. In his head things are better solved with fists than words and his opinion is that nothing gets the point across like a rock in the face. Like his magic, he is hard - especially in the head region. Life with a family of burly men leaves him with little in the ways of emotional thinking and as such he can seem tactless or overly blunt in such situations simply because he is lost and has no idea what to do. Despite that though, he is a bold young man, bordering on reckless on occasion. He has gotten into his fair share of trouble for dumb stunts or accidental property damage yet doesn't learn from such errors (thank his father for instilling the 'boys will be boys' mentality in him). This makes him carefree and not at all against skimping out on curfew or playing hooky from a class or two at the User's academy at his whim (among other things).
As well as being reckless, Caven is rather jock-like. He enjoys physical activities as much as the next guy and is an avid sport nut but, given his age, his thick head, and his home life it does lead him to pick on those younger or weaker on him even in a good-natured way. Again, tying into lack of tact, he doesn't see anything wrong with laughing at someone who takes a spill or ribbing them on that same spill for weeks to come. As well, and especially because of his home life, you'll find that Caven is one to rely on himself more than he is to rely on another person. 'Don't come crying to me' and 'man up' were two things he learned at home and it's stuck with him. Given he won't pour his heart out to you, don't expect him to hold his arms out to you when you have a problem.
Taking everything into consideration - his build, his personality, history, etc - one would wonder why Caven is a Scout rather than a Warrior. The answer is simple - while a User's magic is weaker than that of a Guardian, Caven believes his magic is weaker than most Users; a detail that frustrates him easily and to no end. He sees himself as a MAN and as such puts a large amount of emphasis on what he can do, marking himself down hard when the result is less or not at all what he expects. That being said, what he can form with his magic is (to his eyes) too small - expecting to be great in a short amount of time - and the drawback for pushing his limits is large and takes a toll. Depending on how hard it's bothering him on a given day, the guy will either nonchalantly dismiss the Warriors and state Scouts get better jobs or he will snap, threaten, or simply go after the one doing the asking. It's best to take caution and tread carefully around him when he's clearly got 'bad mood' written on his face because of this. While it might be a bad case of indigestion, it could just be that creeping anger of 'why me?' instead. HISTORYCaven is a member of Mistwick's second generation after its founding sixty-ought years ago. He is the fourth and final son to his father Jacob and his now-deceased mother Emilie with his brothers Dominic, Mikhail, and Justin preceding him. His mother was a member of the Alchemy faction, his father is of the Machine faction.
When Caven was just shy of seven years old, his mother passed due to an undiagnosed heart condition. His father, a butcher, took her death hard but in recent years has recovered and even started dating again. Caven's brothers felt the loss more than Caven himself. Being young at the time, he didn't fully understand death and what it meant just that his mother was gone and not coming home. This of course affected him then, but as he grew up he did learn to accept it and fully supports his father going out and getting back in the dating saddle.
For his entire life Caven had a simple childhood and even when his mother was alive he was still taught the lesson of 'boys will be boys' and roughhoused with the best of them. His father made good money and was able to support the family as a single parent and even though he worked long hours, everyone got along just fine; working together when not fighting amongst themselves over trivial things. Bread was always on the table and there was always a steady supply of meat to keep four ravenous teenage boys fed. In time, Caven's brothers started to turn to studying or apprenticeship in order to start to build their own lives and soon enough Caven followed suit. He began to apprentice at twelve under his father - not wanting to be the only man in the house not doing something and thus be picked on for it - but was still sent to school daily as well.
When Caven was fourteen, his powers began to arise as puberty started to set in. A weekend skirmish with neighborhood boys was when the easy 'pelting people with rocks' trick appeared when Caven was tripped by an older boy and ended up face down in the mud. Anger and embarrassment fueled his powers then and it was not long after that said older boy and his companions were running away from Caven - dodging small stones thrown by the younger boy's magic. This amazed him and his counterparts then but he did get into trouble for this encounter all the same. What's more, it led to him learning about his mother's side of the family more in depth when his powers were spoken of to his father. From the man, Caven and his brothers learned that there had been no Users in his father's side of the family, but on his mother's there had been the odd great-great-great-great-great grandparent spoken to have been one but with no certainties. Even if there had, or even if there hadn't, there was no denying Caven was a User himself and the stand out in the family. After some riffing. whining, and jealous quarreling amongst his older siblings, Caven was enrolled into the User's Academy for the Alchemists rather than the Machines. Despite his father being of that Faction, the older man felt it was appropriate and only logical. Caven didn't care either way: he had powers and that made him (in his head) the alpha dog of his siblings and also so very, very cool.
Over time and with the Academy's help (when not being truant, getting into trouble, or getting reprimands), Caven has developed his powers to more than simple stone skipping. However, he is the sort to rush things and thus frustrates himself with his belief that he should be heaving boulders and making full suits of rock armor by now. In his head four years means he should be doing a lot more than creating a gauntlet of stones that last for a feeble two to four minutes.FONT COLORFire Brick
