Her pace slowed a bit as she neared the classroom. The look those hunters had given her when she'd asked them where to find Caelius had unnerved her just a bit. Like they thought she was crazy, with a tinge of pity thrown in. Still, they had told her what she needed to know. Her best chance at finding him would be to try his classroom. So here she was.
Armagnac's tone was stern.
I'm not, Sherry half lied. She hadn't had time to actually think it yet. It was just a habitual thing with her. It would be easier to not go through that door, to just wait for orders for another mission and spend her free time studying in the library or something. It would be easier to turn around right now and pretend she'd never come this far.
But, Sherry had signed up to fight the shadows, to protect people and to do something great. Sitting back, avoiding challenges and letting orders come to her wouldn't help anyone. No, she needed to learn, gain experience and be the best hunter she could damn well be. And to make that happen, she needed to show some initiative.
"Screw being easy!" The final steps to the door showed no signs of hesitation.
Unfortunately, in addition to initiative, she would also need some guidance. Those hunters that had helped her earlier would say it was extra unfortunate she sought out Caelius for this purpose. But of all the senior Hunters, he was the one she had seen the most. He was the one that had handed out the missions, and he was pretty awesome in the field. To top it off, his ruthlessness had even impressed Armagnac. This probably should have worried her more than it did.
Her knock was quick but courteous and followed almost immediately by her entering the room.
"Sir?"

Caelius was on the phone when Sherry knocked on the door: considering the door was already open, he simply gave the trainee his best level glare and continued to speak into the handheld device. "Next time, when I say additional restraining mechanisms should be installed into the room, those articles do not include soap and ******** shampoo." There might have been someone else talking at the other end, probably saying something along the lines of "But Sir-", unfortunately they had been cut off by Caelius snapping his phone shut and slamming it back against the table.
Silence ensued for an awkward two minutes as the Death Hunter simply stared at his table and shuffled articles of it around, sifting through them, looking for something. "For Christ's sake trainee if you have to <******** stand here at the doorway at least make this marginally important." All work and no play made Caelius pretty much the same as he always was. Unfortunately.

He was clearly busy. She had just barged in and he was on the phone. Oh lord, she was off to a great start. When he didn't address her after hanging up the phone, the trainee had found herself mildly confused. Should she say something? Should she just wait? When he finally did address her, it became clear that waiting had been the wrong choice. "Ah-" Her words caught in her throat. Which was just as well, since she really didn't know what to say. Armagnac whispered. She inhaled. "Sir," dear God, he wanted important. There was no way he was going to think that her request was important. Obviously, he had real work to do. "Sir," she was repeating herself, "I was wondering if you had any work or hunter practice that I could do. Anything at all." Now Armagnac sounded annoyed. "I need to learn more. More about the enemy and where they come from. I also need more experience. I just don't know what sort of extra work I need to be doing. So, I thought I would ask you. I-" Sherry shut her mouth, and tried not to appear terrified. It probably didn't work. Zoomutt Late quote tag is late! I realized I forgot to do it. xD

Absolute silence. If Sherry could turn into a festive ornament and disappear down the holiday hallways, this might have concluded better for everyone. Unfortunately, she had not acquired those powers quite yet.
The fact that the trainee was indeed a Life Hunter do not escape Caelius's eyes. "Everyone needs to learn more, though I recommend learning in your own ******** time. However, since you did so kindly mention 'anything at all', I will be more than happy to oblige."
The half-smile he gave Sherry was nothing short of sadistic. The Death Hunter shifted towards the trainee, just slightly. "Are you aware of what this is trainee?" In his left hand was a sprig of mistletoe.
Wait, what?
"A certain division leader whom you should be well acquainted with has been decorating every single ******** door, every single hallway, everywhere with these." Caelius continued to press on, a flashbacking to his own holiday resentments. "And while it might have been amusing to happen on two guys kissing the first time, I assure you the novelty is wearing off very ******** fast." It kind of sounded he had first hand exper-
-The sprig of mistletoe was tossed right at Sherry. "You will find all of these, trainee and you will dispose of them. You are dismissed."
It really was a pity that Sherry had not actually mentioned the words 'mission' and simply 'anything'.MISSION??! HOLIDAY MISTLETOE SEARCHING - Sherry must go out and find five different mistletoe ornaments and dispose of them - Roll a 100-sided dice, and match your roll to the results below. RP out the result as well. Please post your mistletoe count at the bottom of your post- Continue rolling until you have rolled at least five mistletoe successful rolls, and then return to Caelius. With their lips. (NO MISTLETOE GAINED)
21 - 40: You look around - no signs of Hunter life! As fast as you can dash, you run for the sprig of mistletoe hanging against the window and nab it! Success! ( + 1 MISTLETOE GAINED).
41- 60: You try to grab the mistletoe hanging in a very crowded hallway, and receive a lot of glares for 'ruining the holiday spirit'. You quickly run the other direction... (NO MISTLETOE GAINED)
61 - 80: You find several sprigs of mistletoe in what seems like an empty classroom, but it is a trap! Several lonely guy (and possible girl) Hunters spring out from the corner of the room. ABORT MISSION. You run out as fast as you can, as they chase after you. (NO MISTLETOE GAIND)
81 - 100: Your attempts to find the most abandoned hallway has been successful, and you manage to get another piece down. (+1 MISTLETOE GAINED).

Sherry blinked at the mistletoe in the Death Hunter's hand. Why was he telling her about the decorations? He certainly didn't sound hap-
She almost didn't catch that sprig of mistletoe. She certainly hadn't been expecting it come at her, but luckily her reflexes were more on the ball than her mind at this point in time. Open mouthed, she stared at the object in her hand for a brief moment before looking back at the Death Hunter. The moment her brain used to process his orders seemed to take ages.
"Y-Yes, Sir!" She turned and scurried out of the room as fast as she could.

Once in the hallway, Sherry let herself breathe again. As she walked (the more distance between the classroom, the calmer her nerves became), she looked at the mistletoe that had been tossed at her. Her extra work was...this? The Death Hunter's tone had left no room for argument, and Sherry wasn't one to argue anyway.
Armagnac's silence on the matter was quite loud.
"I suppose you think I should have declined," she muttered out loud, barely conscious of the fact that others in the hallway could hear her.
"Orders are orders. I'll finish this, then see what I can do." She pocketed the mistletoe, then started down the hall, heading straight for a rather large clump of the stuff above a nearby door.
You're one to talk. Sherry could feel Armagnac's response, the dragon-glaive was likely going to be quiet for a while. Oh, well. Sherry wouldn't be needing her for this exercise, anyway.
Reaching her target, Sherry stood on her toes, reaching up and fully intending to pull the thing down. It gave a little bit, but did not detach itself from the doorway. Someone had attached it very well. "Sorry," she said to the mistletoe, "but you and all your friends are coming down. One way or another." She gave it another hard tug--
"Another Scrooge," she heard someone mutter. Sherry stopped mid-pull, and for the first time noticed that not only was she not alone in the hallway, but that she was not being stared at. Correction, glared at.
"Um...well...I'll just leave this one here. Ha," she laughed sheepishly, before nearly running down the hall.

Sherry rounded the first corner she saw. Wow. Those hunters back there had looked just a little bit annoyed, if not angry. Sherry herself had a love of Christmas decorations, but wow. She almost felt like she was missing something. Like she had wandered onto the edges of a battlefield unknowingly. She still had her orders, though. She just had to-
Oh! She had glanced through the open door of a classroom, and saw not just one, but quite a few bits of mistletoe here and there. Jackpot! She could have the whole room to herself while she cleared it out.
In was only after she was in the room, looking up at the nearest mistletoe bunch (she would likely have to stand on a desk to get that) did she notice that she wasn't alone.
"It's a girl this time!" "I call dibs!" "Somebody hit the Christmas music!"
Sherry turned to see several hunters had been standing where they could not be seen from the doorway. They had gaudy Holiday sweaters on under their hunter coats, and a couple of them were apparently puckering their lips. Really? Really, really?
"A lady under the mistletoe, we just can't help but give you a kiss!" Said one fellow with a grin and a sweater on which Rudolph's nose actually glowed.
Sherry didn't even respond. She turned and ran. Not a scurry this time, but a full on run.
"We just want to invite you to our Christmas party!"
The worst part was, she was pretty sure they all were wearing Life jackets.

Sherry ran down a hall or two, then ducked into some random classroom. It seemed like the folks on this island took their Christmas time very seriously. Leaning on a desk to catch her breath, Sherry noticed that this room, too, had a several mistletoe decorations. Orders were orders. She would clear this room of-
Where in the name of all that was good had they been hiding? Two girls and one guy. Tinsel in their hair. Fresh lipstick on their puckered lips. White, Red and Green lipstick, the uncapped tubes resting on desks next to where they had been. The Trio of Cheer were headed right toward her, eyes glittering with joy (or malice).
Still shaken from the last room, all of Sherry's self preservation instincts kicked in and she ran. Again.

It can actually be quite fun. Most of the time, Sherry replied. She was talking about Christmas as a whole, not just this whole mistletoe thing. She shuddered. She might never think of it the same way again. She stopped to look around. The hallway her mad dash had taken her too appeared to be empty. And there, unprotected and unsuspecting was a sprig of mistletoe, tied up with a pretty red bow. Warily, Sherry looked up and down the corridor. She ducked her head into a nearby classroom. Empty. She was alone. Not daring to show any outward glee, as that might jinx the whole thing, Sherry casually walked over the to the mistletoe. She reached her hand up, had to stretch even, and grasped the decoration in her hand. And pulled. As hard as she could. It came free! Sherry quickly hid the prize in one of her pockets, before anyone could see. One down. (( Mistletoe Count: 1 ))

Sherry moved down the hall, to the next mistletoe bunch. This one was also all done up with a red bow, but someone had added a cute little gold bell. "Sorry, it's coming down."
She heard their footsteps too late. "Need some help there, missy?"
Sherry froze, one hand in the air reaching for the decoration above her head. "I just need to take this down," she cast a glance over her shoulder. Behind her were two male hunters, both roughly her age.
"Pretty little lass wants to take the mistletoe everywhere with her, eh?" One of them asked.
"You don't have to do that!" The other chimed in, "We'll give you plenty of kisses if you just stand right there."
The horror on her face could not be hidden. She wouldn't have tried anyway. Sure, they might have been joking. That was not a chance Sherry felt like taking today.
"Oh, don't look like that, lass! Just one little smooch?" He started to lean in.
"No thanks!" Sherry said.
And she was gone again.

Her steps rang with determination. She could do this. She would do this. If she couldn't even handle this simple task, how could she ever hope to deal with monsters in the real world? Perhaps that was what this was. Some kind of test.
Armagnac chimed in.
With how her day was going, Sherry couldn't argue. Well, it seems like it would be easier than it has been.
There! Another unguarded sprig of the offending parasitic plant. The sooner she could get the darn things down, the sooner she could move on to bigger and better things. She walked right up to it and reached out--
An arm enclosed about her waist. "Hunting for some mistletoe to stand under, I see." A male voice almost purred in her ear.
"We can help with that," another added.
"Uh-No," Sherry turned to face them. What was with the guys on this island? Did they just run around in pairs looking for girls to kiss? Seriously?
And suddenly all she could see was the nose of her captor as he leaned in. He was almost good looking. If it had been any other day, he might have had a chance. Today however, yeah no. Not at all.
Her hand came up over his mouth, and in her anger she might have pushed it against his face and nose a little too hard. She didn't care. "Not in the mood right now, boys." In one fluid movement, she pushed and spun away. Then she ran again.
Armagnac commented.

She was not ashamed of the fact that she had decided to take a breather in the middle of her task. For those few minutes that she sat down to relax were quite nice. She forgot about mistletoe and kissing, about Christmas and Caelius. For a moment. Then she put her hand into her pocket, where she found a single sprig of mistletoe. The one she had taken down in the hallway. The only one she had managed to take down. So far.
The determination she had felt earlier came back in full force. She would defeat this scourge upon the hunter halls. If she didn't do it, who would? (Some other poor lackey sent by Caelius, of course, but she right now that was her.)
Back on her feet, Sherry did her best to appear casual. She just had to find some nice, unguarded mistletoe. Classrooms were likely to be her best bet. Or maybe she could wait until night. Did these halls ever empty?
"Ah!" The joy quietly escaped her lips. She had found a classroom that was both empty of people, yet full of mistletoe. She made sure to look around the classroom before fully stepping into it. No more surprises!
Three steps into the room, and surprises there were. Had these fools been hiding under the desks in the far corner? Their coats must have matched the walls-or they were really good at hiding. It didn't matter. Sherry didn't wait around to find out why they were hiding, one glimpse of red and green and she was gone. Off into the hallway, and away.
What kind of hellish task had that madman sent her on?

By the time she saw it, she had stopped running. No, her steps were measured and deliberate.
It hung there, quietly, pretending to be innocent with its little red bow and shiny silver bell. All green and white and Christmasy. A disease.
Sherry walked right up to the little monstrosity. She knew she wasn't alone in the hallway, but no one was near. Heaven help anyone who tried to plant one on her. She was taking that mistletoe down.
"Hey! What are you doing?" A voice called to her as she reached for the hell-plant. "I worked really hard to put that thing up there!"
Sherry turned. A Life hunter was staring at her, holding a box of decorations. A few other hunters had armfuls of garland and other shiny things. "I...uh..."
The looks they were giving her, oh dear. The anger inside Sherry faded. She wasn't sure what replaced it, but she did know one thing. She wasn't going to stand around and explain herself.

She should have just grabbed that mistletoe and ran. She knew that. But with those hunters staring at her...she just couldn't. It...it would have been like tearing up a kid's macaroni picture right in front of them. She just couldn't. (Not yet, anyway.)
She perked up as the open door of a classroom caught her eye. Mistletoe! If she could just slip in and slip out...
Slipping in was easy. It was only then she saw the three tubes of lipstlick on one of the desks. One red, one green, one white. She had been in this room before. She turned, and there they were. Tinsel in their hair, matching their color choice of lipstick. The guy wore red. The girls green and white. They were nearly upon her! The Trio of Cheer closed in, lips puckered, and she felt their hands reaching, grabbing.
For some reason, she looked up. There, there above her was not one, but two sprigs of mistletoe, complete with a red ribbon. Damn you!
She tried, tried to run, tried to fight. In the end, Sherry was running down the hallway, just like before. Only this time, she had a fresh lipstick print on her right cheek. Shade: Winter Pine Green.

Sherry stepped out of the washroom, her face now cold and the spot where the lipstick had been was red. It was a stubborn shade, but she took care of it.
Her eyes darted up and down the hallway. She was not going to quit now. She had seen the enemy, looked them in the eye, and she knew she could defeat them. A bit of soap and water, perhaps some memory suppression...She had her orders and nothing would stop her.
She looked straight up. She'd seen it when she'd gone in, but at the time washing her face had been more important. Now, however, it was the mistletoe's turn. A wicked smile crossed her face as she began to reach--
"Odd place to wait under the mistletoe." "Give her a kiss and then she can move!"
Sherry jumped at the voices. Oh, what this time?!
Two guys (seriously! always run around together?) were bearing down on her, on very much looking like he was under the mistletoe spell. His lips were already puckered, his hands moved as if to hug--
Sherry stepped back into the washroom and shut it in his face. She may have also sent a few curse words out at him and his friend.
