Tomlin’s first instinct, when the scope of the –ah – incident was established, was to check on his senshi. After Callisto, Europa should have been the next easiest to find. If nothing else, he figured she would want to know. Unfortunately it seemed that the Senshi of the Deep was not where he’d left her, and the cat had been attempting to track down her new abode, without much success.
The maze of multistorey apartments was not his idea of ideal territory. The ginger-furred guardian slunk around, checking for stairwells and back entrances, and wondered if it was dark enough yet to head up to the roof.

Kathryn was relaxing on her apartment's balcony. After Tallulah had helped her get into their apartment it had taken a bit of time to settle down. Even though she was a cat for now her room mate had been able to calm her worried state. Now she stared at the darkening sky. She'd only requested Tallulah to leave the balcony sliding door open so she could travel outside. She was not likely to travel anywhere else at the moment so she was grateful to be able to go in and out as she pleased.
Sticking her head through the railing of the balcony Kathryn gave a sigh before her eyes picked out another cat slinking around in the shadows. Pulling back Kathryn wondered if this was a normal street cat or one of those who were like her.
The brown-furred cat sat down and began to groom herself. It wasn't in her nature to pry and so she would try to relax and enjoy the night as it descended around the city.

After only a little more sniffing around at ground level, Tomlin started to head up, peeking in windows and scanning balconies as he went - a slow climb, but exploratory. If he needed to come back here, he'd be able to find the quickest route much easier, and avoid any hazards like yappy dogs or alarms. All senses alert to his surroundings, it wasn't hard to notice there was another cat several levels above him. He bounded the rest of the way up to check it out.
He landed on the balcony ledge, all four paws close together on the narrow bar, precariously balanced in the way only cats and gymnasts can manage, and looked in at the other cat with wide luminous eyes. The star that shone against the brown fur was a surprise.
"Evening," he announced himself with a little nod, though his voice was soft in case there were any humans within earshot.

Any other normal feline would have probably hissed in outrage about their territory being infringed upon - luckily Kathryn was not another ordinary cat. Thanks to her talk with Tallulah she'd come to a little of understanding her predicament. It was still a lot to take in though. Remembering that eye-opener of a revelation Kathryn refocused on the cat that had just appeared on the balcony ledge. The gold-colored star had Kat's full attention as she noticed the mark.
As the other cat spoke it had Kat wondering if it was another human-turned-cat. She curled her tail around her paws before dipping her head politely. "Good evening?" She left off on a question. She wasn't exactly sure what this cat was doing here. Most of the other cats she'd met had been out in the open. This was the first time one had visited her place.
She was puzzled. Clearly this was the same cat she'd seen in the alleyway. Maybe since she was new to being in a feline state she hadn't thought it was possible to climb up the side of the building. "Can I help you with something..." Kat trailed off perhaps seeking an introduction.

Tomlin stalked along the rail, examining the other cat with sidelong glances as he paced the length of the balcony and back again, before finally dropping neatly down to land a few feet from her. The intensive work on the machine had introduced him to quite a few other guardians, though that was no indication that he'd met them all. But aside from the star itself, there seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary about the unfamiliar brown cat - she had neither collar nor ornaments that he could see, and the balcony itself was rather bare, almost neutral somehow. After a few moments of trying to identify the source of the feeling, he realised it was not a particular smell, but an absence. It didn't smell of cat, Mauvian or otherwise, not the layered way he would expect if she was living here. A passing visitor, then, like him? The door was open, promising food to intrepid adventurers. Mixed conclusions. He settled on caution for now.
"I was looking for someone," he said, tail swishing evasively. He sat down, tilting his head to regard her more directly. "I haven't seen you around before. I'm Tomlin."
And having made himself at home, he picked up a white-dipped front paw and began to clean his ear with slow, careful movements. This was one of the few operations made awkward by his bracers.

Kathryn's gaze tracked the visitor's movements on the balcony railing with a little bit of apprehension. Even as a feline Kat didn't trust her own agility. She was too nervous to perch on the railing less she fall off. Five stories was a long way down for a pseudo-cat to fall. When she had gone through her change she hadn't even landed on her feet. It gave her second thoughts about sitting somewhere precarious.
At Tomlin's confession that he was looking for someone Kat's ears pricked forward. Maybe she could help this cat find who he was looking for. "It's nice to meet you Tomlin. I'm Kathryn ... Kat for short. I haven't been here too long. Maybe that is why we haven't crossed paths."
Kathryn was wondering about the other cats she'd met already: Athene and Benitoite. Was this stranger like them and herself - not really cats?
As Tomlin sat down and began to clean his ears Kat noticed the objects that adorned his paws. They looked like bracers. He also wore a necklace around his neck. Rising to her feet and padding around in a circular route around the balcony Kathryn glanced towards the open door leading inside and then back to Tomlin. "Who are you looking for Tomlin? Maybe I can help you someway."

A cat called Kat, huh? Well, he couldn't really comment - he was technically a tom name Tom, or at least he answered to it. It was interesting that she actually seemed less nervous now he was on her side of the balcony than she'd been when he was up on the border.
"That must be it," he agreed. Never mind that he was quite some distance from areas he usually patrolled, and had no real reason to expect to have met her. No-one had ever said all the active guardians had been involved in their experiment. He wasn't sure how anyone could resist the lure of space travel, but it could be the word hadn't got out to this cat.
He remained more or less still as Kat began to pace about, starting on his other ear and watching her from beneath his lashes. "Is someone inside?" he asked, not missing her attention to the door. She seemed friendly enough (given he'd invaded her space), and helpful, but he wasn't sure he was ready to give too much away.
"I was looking for a senshi," he said at last, watching for her reaction to the word.

"I was looking for a senshi."
Kathryn's ears pricked forward at that word. She'd heard it spoken before; from her room mate no less. Her glance towards the door had not gone unnoticed either it seemed. She gave Tomlin a little bit of distance as she padded softly towards the open door. Why was he looking for a senshi? Did he mean Tallulah? It was now a question of how to answer these statements. Kathryn gave a small sigh and changed her posture to face Tomlin.
"The only person here besides me should be the person I share this place with."
Kat gave a small feline version of a shrug. Her gaze caught Tomlin's as she flicked her tail towards the door. "I don't think she'd mind another cat dropping in. She has told me that she knows a few cats like us."
Now she wanted to watch his reaction to her next question. "Why are you looking for a senshi?"

Letting his paw fall back to the ground, Tomlin regarded the other cat with puzzlement, giving her his full attention. The door no longer held his interest. If it was Kat's senshi here, that pretty much ruled out the one he was looking for - while he knew the Jovian senshi liked cats, he was fairly sure she would have mentioned if she had another guardian living with her.
The question did succeed in taking him off guard. He needed a reason? He was always looking for senshi, it was just a matter of how specific the search was at any given time. "Why? To find one! That's the job, right?" he responded, choosing to take the most basic interpretation of her question. "Look for, awaken, protect... " He reeled it off like a litany. "Do I need a reason to come visiting?"
He gave his shoulder a quick lick, debating whether or not to tell her about the machine. She seemed nervy, and he didn't want to worry her.
Less flippantly, he added, "Just trying to check in with my team. It's good to know where they live when they're not patrolling, you know? So I know where to find them in an emergency. I guess it's not a big deal if you're living with one."
