How many times had Jove been told not to go wandering about at night? Countless times, surely. And in his current state it would have to be even more ill-advised. The pup was just ridiculous small in his natural form, not even full grown for a foxfire, and he had been in battle after battle since returning to school. All that training had left him slightly beaten up, and a wounded, young creature was always a good target.
And yet he still went out for a walk that evening in his little fluffy form. Across the campus, through the woods, the little pup trotted quite happily without giving a thought to what might be lurking out there.
Jove did have other things on his mind. Tonight he was out hunting himself, although his prey was... easily catchable for one as tiny as himself. And they were easy to find that time of night, small groups of them clustering together, glowing faintly... Easy targets for the wisp's keen nose and eager paws. He was going to find some new mushrooms!

Muka enjoyed being out at night and often didn't go to sleep until into the early morning hours. He enjoyed the outdoors too much to remain cooped up in a dorm room so unless there was pressing homework to do, he was out in the woods. So far at Amityville he'd found the woods to be the safest place to hunt. He'd already almost eaten a minipet or two while on the campus proper and maybe even a student. So hoping to avoid further trouble he was going to keep his hunting to the woods since the scarefari grounds were only for trapping. The strix was in his natural form, a 6' tall owl with golden eyes and tawny feathers. He was actually a bit fluffy, kind of cute, still wearing the adorable quality that very young animals seemed to have naturally.... except that he was huge. He'd been stalking a a small family of bunny wunny who he'd seen hopping through the woods. They stood out in the darkness with their white fur so the sight of a glowing fluffy form did not at all shock him. He just didn't think it was a fellow student! He'd never been able to catch any sort of ghost mini before. Could he even eat a ghost? HE WOULD HAVE TO TRY! The owl clacked his beak, sending a softly menacing echo through the forest. He fluttered to another branch as he followed, his prey only hearing a mysterious feathery ruffle in the air.

Jove's good ear swivelled around as a soft sound echoed through the woods. There were always noises on these night time wanderings, the hum of crickets and the occasional fluttering of bats overhead, the scream of far-off nightbirds... A soothing chorus of nightly activity that he could wander through without incident. But this sound wasn't familiar to his ears. And it cast an odd silence over the forest in it's wake.
The little pup paused and glanced around, sitting down for a minute before continuing through the underbrush. But his good ear remained turned back, catching the sound of something trailing behind him. Something above him. But Jove couldn't think of any airborne predators in the area that would sound so large...
He sped up, trotting rather quickly through the woods. If he could find a little cosy hollow, like a log or a burrow, he would be able to hunker down and nap until whatever it was had passed.

Muka paused when he saw the tiny thing's ears move. It looked just like one of those foxfires. Why would he think it was anything but a delicious snack? Other students would probably be upset to find out that the owl would eat a foxfire but he was a predator above all things. After a safe pause he followed along. The strix's eyes widened when he decided to attack. He leapt from the tree, massive wings spread and talons grasping. He misjudged the cloud cover though and just as he dove the pumpkin moon beamed through the trees. His shadow was very obvious as he descended on the tiny ghost.

Suddenly the pup noticed the darkness under his feet was growing darker. Or rather, everything around him, as though a shadow was passing across the moon... He glanced up, and yelped in shock as he saw the GIANT WINGED MONSTER THING swooping down, legs extended, expression focused in a most deadly manner. Jove didn't even recognize it as an owl, having only heard the creature's benign hoots from a distance, and his fight or flight reaction kicked in without giving it a second thought. Except strangely enough, instead of running he whirled around to face beast, planted his little paws, and bared a row of frighteningly large, needle-like teeth.

Muka was not used to having his prey turn around and ready for attack. The strix, though a predator, was no animal and his intelligence told him he didn't want to be wounded. He aborted his attack and veered to the side. He wasn't fast enough to pull up and ended up hopping awkwardly over the forest grass. "Jackdammit.." There was a screech of slight annoyance for his screwed up attack but he spun on the tiny foxfire, wobbling (owls were awkward on the ground), and turned to frighten off the little beast. He didn't want to eat it anymore! "SHOO!" He hissed, the 'hooo' sound very drawn out and owl-like.

Having thwarted the giant creature's attack through only a display of fierce willpower, Jove felt pretty good as he watched it hop across the ground. It was the same sort of dangerous exhilaration that came from winning a game of chicken. He might have turned around and took that opportunity to get to safety, but his sensitive little ears easily picked up the curse. And that immediately told him he wasn't dealing with any old wild monster. And when he was told to shoo, not a second later, the little foxfire fluffed up even more. He said no words, but the indignant expression clearly read "No, you shoo! I was here first!"

"Shoo!" The strix then changed tactics and puffed himself up impressively. He still believed the ghost to be a minipet so he marched forward with decided steps. "Go on little thing! I don't want to eat you now! Go be free in the woods!" He snapped his vicious looking beak, gold eyes blinking unevenly. "Be free before I change my mind!" The strix did look a little uneasy at the way the creature was unaffected by his threats. Perhaps he would be forced to shift?

It appeared Jove's bold tactic was working, and as the speech flowed out of the large owl, it only confirmed his suspicion that he was dealing with another student. Maybe a newer one, the voice wasn't anything the little pup recognized, although now that he thought about it... That stare was kind of familiar... Jove stood his ground as the strix approached. "No!" He finally barked back, letting the much larger beast know that he wasn't a tiny, edible thing! Then, as if to make his point, he sat down and scowled.

Ulmuka stilled when the little poof talked. It's head bobbed to the side and then with the painful sound of cracking bone and stretching sinew, the owl form shrunk and distorted until a boil sat in it's place on the ground. Ulmuka had fluffy cream and brown hair, large unnerving gold eyes and a jagged smile. His clothing all seemed to be rather fancy, cream and gold with pinstripes and cufflinks. He giggled. "You talked!!" A taloned figer pointed as he giggled. "I'm sorry for trying to eat you I thought you were a mini!" The hissing laughter did not, in anyway, support this 'remorse' he felt.
