CheshireKttty Under the warm afternoon sun, and beside the cool ocean water, Nori found himself lying on the beach. The stallion had been put on what he and his love mate referred to as 'basket watch'. However, the little things had barely made much movement and so he had opted for a quick nap. Surely they wouldn't pop in a matter of a few minutes? Deciding that he had a bit of time, the kelpie let his eyes drift closed. Nyx Queen of Darkness Gunkan splashed around in the water for a few minutes, before going back to check on the baskets with Nori. He was getting a little nervous that they hadn't been moving. When he walked up he saw little blue eyes and little amber eyes picking from the two lids. "NORI!" He screamed. CheshireKttty Nori had been fast asleep when Gunkan found him next to the baskets. He wasn't entirely sure how long he'd been asleep for, but he did know that he wasn't entirely happy about being woken up. "What do you want?" He mumbled, momentarily forgetting the baskets. Nyx Queen of Darkness Gunkan couldn't stop staring. "Nori...they have eyes....they're looking at us! BOTH OF THEM!" How could Nori sleep at a time like this! Of course, Nori could always sleep through anything. CheshireKttty Drowsily, the stallion lifted his head to look at the baskets. Still tired, he didn't quite understand what Gunkan was talking about. After a few moments, it finally dawned on him. "Those are eyes! Two pairs!" He shouted, still a bit slow in understanding. Nyx Queen of Darkness "They're both opening! At the same time! WHAT DO WE DO?!?!" A look of terror passed over Gunkan's face as a red hoof pushed out of one of the basket lid. "Leg!" He shouted, which of course, quite obvious. Cheshirekttty Panicked, Nori jumped up immediately. Finally everything that Gunkan had been trying to tell him was settling in. Why oh why hadn't they asked Chi about this? He only hoped that he could figure out what to do. "OH NO I HAVE NO IDEA!" He shouted still in a mode of panick. "WHERE'S CHI WHEN YOU NEED HER?" He screamed as the smaller basked stuck a little hoof out as well. Nyx Queen of Darkness A blond little mane and blue head poked through, then another red hoof and blue leg. Intricate swirls appeared and the foal staggered out and onto it's feet for the first time. His large eyes looking at the males, recognizing their voices from his time in the basket. "Daddy?" He looked at them both. Gunkan felt his heart give this little thrum, "Yes, we're you're daddies." CheshireKttty Following suit of his brother, the little putti popped his head up out of the basket, sending the lid askew. Next he followed with another brown hoof and managed to wriggle out of the basket. Too stunned by the world around him, he remained silent but crept closer to the larger colt.Nori looked over the two colts with amazement. They were finally fathers now! Sure he and Gunkan had talked about it, but, well, to truely be fathers was something completely different. He never imagined just how, happy, he would be. "Yes we both are." He smiled at the two.

Nyx Queen of Darkness Gunkan pushed back the short chunks of his hair--a sacrifice that had been well worth it. He couldn't drink them in enough--he couldn't take in how beautiful their little family was. He approached them gently, and nuzzled them both. "Don't be afraid, we're here. Always. "Always," the little blue foal repeated. He'd heard them ever since he could remember. The sound of their voices like music ot his ears. "My always?" CheshireKtty Gunkan moved to stand beside his life mate as he watched the two foals in awe. It was amazing how much the larger one looked like both of them. And the littler foal was absolutely adorable. It didn't matter where either of them had come from, they were both his sons and he would treat them both as such. "Yes, we will always be your always." He told them. The little usdia continued to stand by his brother rather quietly. It wasn't that he was necessarily shy, he simply didn't have much to say. Except for one word. "Always?" He tried it. Mimicking his parents and his brother.

The blue foal nudged the small paint, "You're mine too?" He took a tenative step over and tripped in front of the little usidia.
Gunkan rushed forward. Pride filling him at looking at both his sons, "Always. Forever." As the little blue one fell, he ran forward, "Are you okay dear one?" He coudlnt' help but think that this one had Nori's grace, hopefully their other soon wouldn't be quite so clumsy. He smile over at him tentatively trying to get him to talk more

Nori smiled warmly at the two foals and was about to nuzzle his Love mate when the larger colt tripped. Surely this must be a sign of the colt's grace. The stallion let out a bit of a sigh upon discovering this fact. It seemed that poor Gunkan was doomed to care for two clumsy boys now. He only hoped that Gun could handle all of the work that that would entail.
"I see he must have inherited my lovely footwork. I'm betting that you're going to end up having your hooves full aren't you Gun?" He grinned at the other stallion.
Onigiri looked on as his brother fell before him. Unable to help himself, the little colt began to giggle uncontrollably. The sight was just so incredibly entertaining. He continued on for a brief moment or two more and then regained his composure. It seemed important that he try to move as well. He only hoped that he wouldn't make as big of a fool of himself as his brother had. Carefully, Onigiri placed one foot out in front of him. He testes it as he set it down. The ground seemed sturdy enough and his hoof seemed as if it would stay. This might not be all that hard after all! Confident, the foal placed his weight on the hoof and came crashing to the ground.

Nigiri couldn't help but giggle at his little brother. So confident, so proud and then...OOMPH. It wasn't funny, but it was just like it had happened to him.
Nigiri pulled his unsturdy legs under him and stood very, very still. If he breathed at all he might just fall down. Slowly, very slowly he exhaled so as not to fall over.
Taking another breath in very slowly, he got his feet under him better. Crouching lower to the ground, he eased out one foot and with all his concentration eased all of his weight on to it.
It seemed to work.
Gaining a little more confidence, he rose up and put forward another hoof. Then his muzzle hit the ground as if it came up to meet him.
Gunkan nuzzled against Nori, "As long as you're there--both of you, all of you. I can handle anything.
He watched the two falls struggle and fall. Each time he wanted to leap forward and stop any pain from happening. But there was no pain only excitement and giggles.
They weren't as fragile as he thought. Though his heart felt so fragile and outside his body right now.
So this was what it was like to be a parent--to have your very heart walk around outside your body. He remembered the sacrifice of his hair, could still feel the shorn locks alongside his head. He didn't regret it. He'd do it again, he'd even give more just for this one moment. He'd have given his tail if that's what it took.

Onigiri watched as his brother gained confidence, and then fell once more. He had to admit, it was rather humorous to watch the little colt try to move around. Although he suspected that the other felt just the same about him. Not to be out done, Onigiri began to rise to his hooves once more. Slowly, and very very carefully, the colt placed a hoof in front of him and then another. He was standing now! Except he also wasn't about to be able to move anywhere else. The colt could feel the ground beneath him inching closer as his legs splayed farther and farther apart. In a last attempt to save himself, Onigiri attempted to move forward, but found himself crashing to the ground once more and landing with a little grunt, as he hit.
Shaking himself off, the colt managed to get his legs under him once more. Trying again, the colt moved his front hooves forward, but before he could fall, he moved his back legs as well. For a brief moment, the colt wobbled rather dangerously, but he managed to keep himself upright and off of the ground. Beaming with pride, he looked to his fathers once more.
Nori watched his two sons with pride as he moved closer to Gunkan. Every time that either of the colts accomplished something, he could feel his heart bursting with pride and joy. Just watching them stand or take a step was exciting! Whenever they began to falter or fall down, Nori wanted to rush to their aid. He knew that it was crucial for the boys to learn these lessons on their own, but he wanted so badly to be able to help them. He wanted to run to their side and help them along in any way that he could, to show them how it was done, to make any pain that they might ever feel just go away. He wanted to always be able to care for them and protect them from danger. All of this and more, he wanted. Yet he knew that his children wouldn't ever learn how to survive if he coddled them. Besides, what sort of life would they have if they were set on a shelf and never touched for fear of hurting them? Nori supposed that that wasn't really much of a life at all. Just because they would be safe didn't necessarily mean that they would be happy.
"Don't you wish that we could keep them like this forever? Just keep them safe and happy?" He asked Gunkan. "I know that they need to be able to grow on their own, but it pains me that one day they might leave us. Oh! What if they hate me when their older? What if they ever say they wish they were never born? I don't think i could bear it Gun, I really don't." He told his mate, obsessively worrying over what was likely to never even happen.

Nigiri couldn't help but giggle at his sibling. For a moment, he struggled up again and carefully--very low to the ground he slunk forward--keeping the center of his gravity low until he could reach his brother. He tilted his head and looked at his brother--an identical expression of glee.
It was then he realize that he didn't know his brother's name. And his brother was quite smaller than him...were they sure he was supposed to come out of hte basket yet? And he liked those little wings! Would he get some one day too? There were a thousand questions reeling around his brain, but there was too much to see--too much to do. But he did need to know one thing. "What's your name?" He tilted his head sideways wondering.
It was a good question, or at least it seemed like it. Because he needed to know a name to know who is brother was...but at the same time, he knew his brother already--but it felt kind of silly to just call him brother.
And come to think of it...what was his name too? Surely, he had a name but why didn't he know it yet?
Gunkan smiled at his mate. He was feeling the same fears himself. But to love something---is to let it go, to let it in to your heart so completely that it could hurt. "We'll make it through. And they'll love us, and we'll love them. I know it doesn't feel like it, but we'll even love them more than we do right this minute. I can't imagine that feeling right now...but I know we will, this is just the beginning of our family--of our life together. So we'll be scared--and we'll do things wrong but...we'll be okay together. And they won't ever not love us."
He looked to Nori quickly after the questions--"Uhm...well?" He raised an eyebrow at Nori. They had discussed names of course and well...now was the time to use the names and well....but this was...permanent which was rather scary---but they did need a name and...well the names were good...but so very permenant.

The little colt tilted his head questioningly as his brother proceeded to ask his question. "Well," He thought carefully. "I suppose I should have a name. But I don't know it. Do you know yours?" He asked the other and larger colt. Hoping that perhaps at least one of them might have a name. Then a thought occurred to him. Carefully, the little colt turned his body to face his fathers. The task was easier said than done, but the little foal managed to make the turn without any major problems. Then, he moved a few steps forward until he was standing right in front of his parents. "Daddy." He spoke, addressing both of his fathers. "What are our names?" He continued on quietly.
Nori nodded to his love mate as he spoke. He supposed that no matter how much he wanted things to stay the way that they were, he would enjoy watching the colts grow. The stallion nuzzled Gunkan. He supposed that there wasn't really anything for him to fear. As Gun said, the boys would still love them no matter what, and they had each other for both the good and the bad. The stallion was so lost in his thoughts that he almost missed Gun's question. Why hadn't they decided on names yet? They knew the baskets were close to popping, so that should have been something that they should have done. "Well, the little brown and white one is so little, he reminds me of a rice ball. Maybe we could call him Onigiri? Then he can be our little rice ball." He replied to Gunkan.

Gunkan couldn't help but smile at Nori. He could feel the tension leaving his mate's body--almost as if it was visible and tangible. He nodded his head at Nori, Onigiri was a name that had discussed for quite awhile--and one that he rather liked. He couldn't help but beam at his smaller son who was wobbling adorably.
"I think that's perfect," he nuzzled his mate's neck. "And for our other little fellow, what about Nigiri--made up of both of us and some of Onigiri. Just perfect right?" Perfect, just as he was made to be--absolutely perfect, both of them.
Nigiri wiggled his nose. "Nigh-jur-e." He sounded it out, liking the sound of it on his tongue. "Oni-gur-e." He wiggled excitedly--which was a mistake. Promptly, Nigiri's little legs went out from under him and he went splat on the ground with a loud "OOF!"
Standing up again, he struggled. "Does it get easier walking daddies?"

Onigiri found himself giggling at his brother as he wiggled his butt and promptly fell to the ground. Unfortunately for the little colt, his laughter also caused him to fall as well. He hit the ground with a little oomph, laying there for a moment before he began to stand up again. This time, he was able to do it much more quickly and without much incident. Perhaps he could try this walking thing again? Putting a hoof out in front of him, the colt was able to take a small step forward, and then another, and another, and another. He started gaining speed much more quickly than he had intended. He tried to stop but his legs just didn't seem to want to respond in the way that he thought they should. Instead he only succeeded in moving faster. Then, without much grace, he tumbled forward, rolling right into his father Gunkan. Startled and a little dazed, the colt looked up at the stallion with something of a worried grin on his face. He felt fine, but was a bit startled by the situation.
Nori watched his two sons with pride, nodding as Gunkan named Nigiri. "Perfect!" He beamed. No other names would have suited these two quite so well. "Of course it will get easier! You two are already starting to move around quite well aren't you? As you get older we'll show you all sorts of things!" Nori went on. Then turning to Gunkan he spoke once more. "Aren't they just adorable? I can't wait to show them all sorts of things! Do you think they'll like seaweed? Oh! Just wait until they meet their aunt. Wait, maybe we shouldn't be so keen on taking them to her? Perhaps that could wait a bit." He trailed off, not quite wanting to think about the things that his sister might say.
Nori was lost in thought for a moment but Onigiri quickly brought him back as he promptly managed to bump into Gunkan. The stallion worried and felt his heart flutter for a moment. Was the foal okay? Had he hurt himself? The feeling didn't last long however. Onigiri seemed to be fine and managed to pick himself up quite easily and quickly. "I'm afraid they're going to give me gray hairs." He told his lovemate.

Gunkan couldn't help but smile as Onigiri rolled into him. He nuzzled the small foal as he stood. "You okay there, small one?" He nuzzled the foal again before responding to Nori. "Do they have to meet your sister at all?" He couldn't help but smile.
"She's not pleasant at all to adults, I'm not sure if she's exactly...censored enough for foals?" He raised a questioning eyebrow. Nori's sister had never really liked him or...was a particularly pleasant girl. Never had bee, and never would be. It's surprising really that she and Nori were related at all since Nori was actually nice. And thoughtful and perfect. He couldn't help but smile.
Nigiri was glad that it got better--learning how to walk was good. He'd hate to think it was always this hard to walk...Nigiri shook his head out again. What was this thing called aunt? And why wasn't she nice? Were all aunts not nice? Or just their aunt? Was it their aunt or who's aunt or everyone's aunt or what?
Nigiri moved over to his fathers and nuzzled like he saw Gunkan do before. It felt nice to be around them--they were so familiar. He remembered their voices in his basket--never any others. It was theirs that lulled him to sleep. They were his...family. That's the word right?

Onigiri looked up as he felt one of his fathers nuzzling him. He nodded at the stallion, still a little dazed. After gathering himself, the little colt walked off towards his brother once again. This time he was much more careful of his speed and managed to make it without any incident. Stepping right up next to his brother, her moved forward another step and then carefully stopped himself. Only bumping into his brother just a little bit.
He was relieved to hear that this walking and moving around thing got much easier. Even with the reassurance, he was still afraid of how long it might be before he might actually be able to move around fluidly like his fathers. Speaking of which, why did he have two fathers and no mother? And why was he so much smaller than his brother? Wasn't he supposed to have a mother? Was there something wrong with him? The little colt worried about these things. He knew he was still new to this world, but something inside him made him worry.
"How come we don't have a mommy?" Onigiri asked his fathers curiously. "And how come I'm so much shorter than Nigiri? Isn't he supposed to be smaller too? Or is there something wrong with me?" The little colt looked to his fathers, hopeful that they might have the answers that he was looking for.
Nori thought over his lovemate's words carefully. "I suppose you are right." He spoke slowly and carefully. "I'd really like them to meet her, at least at some point. I know my family can be a bit off, and I know my sister can be..." He trailed off for a few moments, attempting to find the correct words. "Difficult." He continued on slowly. "Perhaps in the future we can at least show them to her? Besides, don't you want to prove to her that we can raise baskets? And that we have two of the best sons in the whole soquili lands?"
Nori paused for a few moments waiting for his lovemate to answer. Before he had a chance though, he heard the littlest, Onigiri, speak. As the tiny colt spoke, he felt his heart sink to the bottom of his chest. He could almost hear it breaking into two. The stallion had supposed that one day this would happen. That eventually the boys would ask questions. He just hadn't expected it to happen so soon. The colts were still so young! What was he supposed to tell them? What should they say? Nori looked over at Gunkan, at a loss for words. No, he couldn't let Gunkan take all of the responsibility. It wasn't fair to his love. They were both parents to these two, and he needed to take on his own share of responsibility.
"You see," He started off slowly. "There are a lot of mommy and daddy couples." He paused for a moment, trying to think of how to continue on. "But sometimes there are special couples. There are mommy and mommy couples and daddy and daddy couples. Just like your father and I. These couples are special. We still love you just as much as a mommy and daddy couple, you just get two daddy's instead of a mommy. There are also soquili of many sizes, just like your brother and you. Does that make sense?" He hoped that the little colt understood and that he wouldn't have to try to explain further.

Gunkan nudged at his Nori. "I want them to meet her, let's just give them a little time first." He smiled gently at Nori and nuzzled him back. When Onigiri asked his question, Gunkan listened to Nori respond before chiming in. "We asked to be blessed, to have baskets of our own. And we found you both, both given to us by the Great Spirit to raise and love. We're all made differently, and each one perfect. Especially both of you. You're what we always wanted and hoped for. We're all different, all just fine. Don't ever let anyone tell you any different." He nuzzled each of their sons lovingly.
They were perfect. So what if this wasn't conventional? It didn't matter, it didn't change it. There was nothing wrong with this--it was perfect, one of the happiest moments in his life, if not the happiest.
Nigiri giggled and almost fell over when Onigiri bumped into him. His balance was not the greatest. From the way it sounded, it might not get any better if he took after daddy Nori. He tilted his little head to the side, pondering quite a question. What would they call their dads to distinguish them. He wiggled excitedly before falling over. "I'm going to call you Daddy!" He screamed at Gunkan. Then turning his head, he screwed his face before he said, "I'm going to call you Da-da! That way we can call you apart."
He nodded his head. He was after all quite brilliant to come up with it. Now they could call their daddies apart and they'd respond to them that way. Quite brilliant indeed.
He stayed on the ground, "Why is my tail so heavy Da-da?" It was quite cumbersome to move around. It also felt...kind of dry? Why would it be dry though? But then again, he kind of felt dry all over really. And why did he have such a large tail. It made this whole walking thing a lot more difficult. Or maybe it made it easier. Didn't Daddy walk better than Da-Da? And Da-Da didn't have a tail like this. So maybe having a tail was a good thing, a really good thing.

Nori could feel the smile on his face spread a little wider. It seemed that their little family was starting to come together and grow at a rather rapid pace. How long ago had it been since they had even wished for their family? And now here they were, not one, but two handsome young colts for them to raise. Nori couldn't help but nuzzle Gunkan once more. It all still seemed so unreal to him, even with the two colts standing before him, newly popped, it was still difficult to believe. Oh what would his family think? Well, of course they would be happy! He couldn't wait to show them the foals, even though his sister was the only one who had actually met Gunkan, Nori knew the rest of his family would be just as fond of him. Actually, knowing his sister, they would all likely be more fond of Gunkan than she was. Nori still didn't understand her dislike for him, but that was simply her loss. Perhaps it was simply her way of showing love? That must be it, now that he thought about it, she had always treated him in the same way really. It was likely she would treat the colts the same as well. Perhaps it was a good idea to wait for a little while first. Best not to subject them to her personality just yet.
The stallion cleared his thoughts as he heard Nigiri asked him the question about his tail. "Well you see," He started off rather slowly, trying to come up with the correct words. "I have a tail that is made for land while Daddy and you both have a tail that is made for water. It might be a bit more awkward on land, but I bet you'll be much faster and balanced in the water. Let us just hope that you aren't like me. Otherwise you might just be clumsy no matter where you are." He told the colt, then thinking better of it he continued on. "Although I'm sure you will be just fine! You look like you got your Daddy's capable walking abilities and not mine." He smiled as he told his son.
Onigiri promptly began to pick himself up after running into his much larger brother. Feeling a little bit more steady on his feet, Onigiri turned carefully turned his body to face away from his family. Once he had a clear space in front of him, the little colt worked his legs into position and pushed off. Quickly he began to gain speed while maintaining his balance. Confident in his abilities, the little colt turned back around towards his family and began to trot back to them. He made a little loop around his brother, Nigiri, and then moved on to circle both of his fathers. After stretching his legs and releasing a bit of energy, the tiny colt made his way back over to his brother and slid to a stop. Giggling, he looked up at his family with a grin spread across his face. "That was fun!" He shouted, proud of his ability to move around so freely.
Onigiri stood beside his brother for a few moments while he tried to catch his breath. Yet the longer that he stood, the more tired he began to feel. What was this new feeling? He felt sleepy and exhausted. Had all of his running caused this? Perhaps he could take a nap? Letting out a little yawn, the colt looked up to his fathers. "Daddies, where do we live? Where do I sleep?" He asked rather quietly, his voice becoming rather drowsy sounding.
