Who here has seen the movie Spriggan? If you haven't you are missing a good movie. Behind all the action and main story is the directors theory on Noah's Ark and how he thinks God acts in the world.

Has anyone here seen it?

I've never heard of it. Sounds interesting though.

I was rated R for the content... (violence and suspense... don't worry it wasen't a gore fest just blood and most often people were shot far away from the viewers perspective...) I would really recomend this movie. I am gonna' look and see if I can find a good info web site with some scenes and pics.

Sounds interesting exclaim

Did it actually stay pretty consistent with the Bible?

Not at all really... Actually the movie starts out with a scene of some scientist exploring a mountain ravine...

They find what looks like a large wall of unknown substance. When they try and get closer to examine it; a self defense mechanism activates and you see the explores hit the ground writhing in pain... the camera zooms out to outter space where you see a small pulse and then a nearby satillite explodes.

After a bit of back ground and cast introduction you proceed to hear more and more about the findings of a group... I can't remember it's name but it and and the name of it's operataives, the Spriggans, reffers to a type of box used to keep things that are holy from being defiled by the world. Hence hinting that this organization has kept many artifacts of God from falling into the "Wrong Hands." (can you say major military powers?)

You later find out that what had killed the exploring team was the Ark of the Old Testaments account on Noah. The ark is then described as being not just large but huge... Five times the size described in the Bible and it is not made of wood. It is made of a material that modern machinery can't touch... much less analyze. After more story and battles outside the Ark the main chartacter, Yuu, proceeds inside for reasons I won't give up to ya'll...

You will have to see it for yourself... and I would really recomend buying it. www.RightStuf.com has it in their bargin bin... it sold well but they had to much stock... I got it for $11.

later added: Correction to the price of the DVD... $7.95 is what i payed for it.

I've seen this anime. I can't say I didn't like it, although I do remember not being satisfied with the Noah's ark part. I wasn't that accurate and it didn't portray Christian believes very well. Its just another Japanese attempt at making a painfully obvious allusion to the bible.

I had always thought of the inaccuracy as being a nice pull for the "normal" market and giving us something interesting to think about... and yet then again I am alway thinking to much about these things and what they could mean. That and my name is nickname Paladin so anytime I see someone fighting for presevation of a biblical thing ,such as an artifact, belief, or standard, I tend to get into it.

Did you listen to the audio commentary? If you played it you watched the whole movie over again an the ADV producer talks about the movie and the ideas behind it. It really help pull some of the smaller things to light.

Like when quoting the Bible in the movie they had problems... The Japanese animators worked with the voice actors to keep the lip sync as close as possible. So saying the same verses in English as were said in Japanese was imposible. The director and voice actors took a while running thru that area of the bible in multiple different translations (KJ, teen, modern) until they found something they could work with and they still had to reword a few things.

Alot of effort was put into that production... they even had odd colored film made for it's recording. The movie was supposed to have a very neutral amost distant feel, so they had blue film for the movies recording. they did that to keep the red level in the film to a minimum.

If you notice only the main character with his troubled past wears red... and that isn't until he decides to openly begin fighting. In the other hand Yuu's partner there at the base is a Spriggan named Juan from France... He is wearing white and blue and you never see him let his emotions come out. you also never see another character with red on except for on badguy but he only had a red undershirt on.

The three operatives from the US machine core... are named after America's first three nukes, Magic man, Fat man, and Little boy. The idea was that the three operative were very powerful but they were also unstable. All of them had goals other than that of the USMC.

I would have to say that I also had alot of fun making fun of some of the over serious points. Like me and my friends for months everytime we heard the song "Hey You" we would laugh because we could just picture his reaction and eventual frustration at hearing his name called so much in english.

One thing you had to give that show... very little CG was used it was all drawn of painted. And that show is one of the best looking I have ever seen.
