He hadn't seen her since the hunter thing. Roch should have stuck around in the nurse's office, stuck around to make sure his friends were fine, but-- At the time he hadn't been up to it at all.
That's why he was standing at the door of a room he'd never been in, waiting for the little monster ghoul to open up. He wasn't going to take "no" for an answer, either. "Chuppi!! C'mon, ghoul, it's important!"
Well, it was. Sort of. Okay, not really, but it was a reason to drag her out, right?

"DEJAME EN PAZ!" That was the answer that Roch was so kindly given from the closed door, the words having followed the sound of a body smashing against it as though to hold it closed. "No estoy saliendo!" Roch didn't need to speak Spanish to understand Chuppi was clearly demanding to be left alone, as well as admitting that she was never going to leave her room again.
Ever since the hunter incident the monster had become even more withdrawn than ever, spending all of her time in her room. Her source of food was that which was brought to her by her pets, and the overall smell of death could be smelled from beneath her door frame. The outside world was scary and cruel and now, thanks to learning the truth, no longer safe. If those creatures could wear the skin of any kind and even come onto the school, how could she trust anyone anymore? Even Roch could....
No, she wouldn't think that, and Chuppi kept herself against the door. "Even if important, not coming out."

"Chuuuupppiii," Roch whined. "I need help. And you need to get out of that room, it stinks like death. Come on, screech, please? I need to buy a pinata, and you're the only one I can think of to help me find it!"

"No. It smells fine in here and I am not coming out because even you could be one of those things and I was being lied to all along and . . . . ." The monster started to ramble but she did move away from the door, her quills somewhat forcing the heavy wood off the hinges and opening it. A whoosh of air leaked out, bringing the clear smell of decay with it, and Chuppi moved to huddle against a corner.
Her room, normally spotless, was trashed and in a state of squalor.

"Chuppi," he said quietly. "I was stuck in the nets there, too. I dissipated too. If I was one of them I wouldn't be standing here right now, you know--and jackdamn this place smells horrible! Come on, let's get out and make the cleaning gnomes come and do the dirty work."
He held out a hand, a hand that was bandaged from where Jove had bit him, on an arm that had a burn mark from the flames they had gone through. "Please?" he asked.

Chuppi looked just as rough as the rest of her room, her scales dull and her hair a mess atop her head. Her face was streaked with tears and eyes were rimmed from lack of sleep, but it was clear she hadn't starved as evident by the minipet bodies resting around in various piles. "I.... . . I died, and now you want me to go outside again? You want me to try and act like nothing is wrong?"
The monster rose to her feet and glared at Roch, her tiny hands balled into fists at her side. It was true that she did need to get out so her room wouldn't become a hazard zone, but she didn't feel safe anymore. "I'm...scared."

He crouched down in front of her, not touching her. "Chuppi," he said quietly. "If you do this, you're letting them win. Do you want to let those candlejacking backstabbing bastards win? Let them control you, even when they ain't even in the room? This room, it's just a bigger version of the net they trapped you in, screech."
He finally reached out, nudging her chin with his forefinger. "Don't let them take your freedom from you. Besides, if you don't come with me, who KNOWS what stupid pinata I'll pick out?"

It didn't take long for the monster to start crying, which basically was what she wanted to do all along and had been anyway. She practically knocked Roch to the ground as she buried her face against his chest, her small arms pressed to his back as she attempted a very tight and very close hug. "It's too scary, and I don't want to die again! Yo no quiero morir!"
The talk about getting a pinata kept being ignored because, frankly, Chuppi was too busy wallowing in her own self-pity to notice.

He fell back so he was on his butt and she was between his legs, letting her hold onto him and gently trying to fix her hair. He couldn't exactly hug her, not with all those spikes, but this was close.
"I know," he said quietly. "I know, Choops, it wasn't good, it wasn't right, and none of us deserved to be treated like they did--well, except for me, possibly, but I don't think boogies would even be that much of bastards."
He thought for a second. "What was that song you liked so much?" he asked, starting to hum it. He didn't have the high pitch to pull it off, but he didn't think she'd notice.

"Ca..canción? Hijo de la Luna?" Chuppi's heart did slow a bit as Roch attempted to hum the tune, and soon she closed her eyes and added her own voice to the melody. It was strange how such a depressing song could ease her back down into a more relatively calm state, and eventually she was using the words instead of just humming. Perhaps it was funny and she could laugh now, thinking on it. "Is funny, this song is about humans killing one another over something. And they call us monsters, yes? Well, I am monster is race, but . . . " Chuppi assumed Roch would know what she meant, and she managed a weak smile as she rubbed at the sides of her eyes with the palms of her hands.
The boil had come to get her over something (she was calm enough now to figure that out) and she sighed softly, her body still shaking faintly from the tears. Even older she was still a crybaby but at the very least she could stop a lot easier or calm down a lot faster. "So...um...you said something about una pinata? Why do you need ones?"

He was in the middle of braiding her hair in cornrows. They were bigger than the should have been, but it was cute, he thought, admiring his work so far. Of course he'd only done half of it-- "Can I finish your hair first?" he asked. "I've got it half done!"

"My hair? Chuppi looks up at what Roch was doing with a puzzled expression though she quickly grinned when she found that he had indeed been braiding. "Please, by all means please do. I have found that having long hairs is troublesome, in my natural form I have short fur with my scales so it is not tough for maintaining." Chuppi remembered the first time she had taken this false form and it had been...interesting. No tail, lots of hair, and visible genitals, as her mother had said. That was why clothes were important, apparently, because she did not have her skin to keep her covered.
"You do want pinata though yes?"

"I do," Roch said, going back to work quickly, braiding her hair so it looked a bit punkish but cute. "I wanna throw a party sometime. It might be in a while, you know, since things have gone so rough lately, but I think it might help us recover. Just a little smile, y'know? It's a big deal right now," he told her with an answering grin.
"There!" he announced a few moments later. "All done. Uh, I wound up tying the bottoms together with those little twisty ties, they all I had on me, you got cuter ties somewhere?"

"I could help you find one, sure. That's no...hair ties? Um. . . ." The monster trailed off and moved away from Roch, waddling to a corner of the room. A heavy-looking dresser was laying on its side and the monster snatched it up with a single hand, setting the beast upright before she rooted around beneath it. Finding what she was looking for her face lit up in a bright smile. "Will these work?" She waddled back over with two purple hair bands, rather plain but still better than nothing. "After you put this in let me wash my scales off a bit and we can go together. I...if we are going to go out I should not look like this."
Like a vagrant, she thought, or like someone had abused her. She was mildly surprised that Roch was still there after seeing the disgusting state both she and her room were in so it wasn't a surprise that Chuppi was growing more and more to like him. Still she wasn't so sure she actually was going to leave her room even if she got cleaned up but it wasn't like Chuppi was intentionally going to lie either.

"Those'll work just fine," he said, taking them and finishing off the hairdo. "There we go, lookin' better already," he told her. "Go get cleaned up, then let's get out of here before the gnomes try and make US clean up this mess," he told her, getting to his feet.
