The fawn colored lioness had embarked on her last journey, the last time she would ever wander away and not return to that cozy little make shift cave she called a den. The scorching sun burned down upon her fur, though she willed her paws to carry on. As much as she had thought she had been exposed to the sun, there was nothing quite like this feeling she had now. It was hot and muggy.....yet not completely unbearable. Though she could do with a few large gulps of water right about now. The only relief she had was the few brief moments her eagle companion would spread her wings and cover the lioness's face in shadows. "Oh Borra...." she cooed softly to her companion. "I'm sorry..." she whispered softly, fearful she may have just put her beloved companion's life in danger by dragging her out into the middle of this heat....but the bird had insisted. A faint smile crept onto her muzzle as the eagle gently reached down to nuzzle the top of her head. "Were almost there Borra, I can sense it....." she said softly as she stopped and cast her gaze around for any other signs of life.

The desert was something she was getting used to and not as quickly as she had wanted. Being blind made traveling interesting and she was in training for her work of choice. Now she wanted to head into the terrible hot desert. She wouldn't go far though, not having her sight in the sands made her wary of traveling too far since she could easily get stuck again and this time she was sure Desher wouldn't be there to save her.
However she could feel something. Although her eyes didn't work the vibrations told her that someone was near.
"Hello?" She asked. "Who's there?"

Faon's ears flickered to the sound of a voice as she cast her red gaze around for its source. Not far off, the dark purple figure of a lioness came into view, silver speckles adorning her flanks like stars in the night sky. A smile spread across the brown lioness's features as she took a gentle and submissive step forward. "Pardon me, I don't mean to intrude. Is this the lands you call home?" she questioned as she slowly bowed her head to the female. As she did so, her eagle companion rested upon her shoulders let out a soft twitter and clack of her beak as she dipped her head a few times as if in mirror of her companion.

"My lands? Its not particularly mine but its where I reside yes." Lani said respectively and bowed herself, 'seeing' that Faon did the same. "What are you doing out here? Its very dry and there's not much water. I won't be much help not being able to see with my eyes, but I might be able to lead you back to the pride lands."
She hoped this was ok. Desher brought her back without any problems, so maybe she could do the same.

Faon's ears pricked, she had not realized the lioness was blind. "Oh Forgive me, I had not realized." she as she returned her head to an upright level. Her tail tip flicked with a slight hint of happiness. "Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. I've wandered a long way.....and I was hoping to make these lands my home." she said, giving a brief explanation of why she had traveled all the way out here in the first place. "I used to adventure a lot, but I've found myself finally wanting to settle down. For some reason..... I feel as if this might just be the place." she smiled and took a step closer to the lioness. "My name is Faon."

"Hokulani. Its nice to meet you Faon. Don't apologize." Lani stepped closer and closer, the fuzziness of this other lion wasn't so bad the closer she got. She was getting used to the shifting sands beneath her paws. "I know how you feel. I wandered blindly," She laughed at the pun there, "into this desert and got lost. Someone was watching over me to allow me to live for the three days I was lost before Desher found me." Then she tried to give her best stern look not exactly doing it justice because she'd never seen a stern look. "Don't be getting no ideas. You call him Desher-bik if you see him. Got it." Then she laughed.
She had to admit, she loved the sands. Having a place to call home and a male she might call a mate.

Faon let out a soft chuckle as the female ordered her to call what she assumed was this lioness's mate by his proper title. "I assure you, I will call him by his proper name should we happen to meet." she giggled and flicked her tail a bit. "I am also grateful you found us, Hokulani. I fear we may have been lost as well if not for you." she smiled as she flexed her toes in and out of the sand. It felt strange and yet oddly pleasing. Perhaps she could get used to this in time. "Are there any other lions living out here besides you and Desher-bik... like a pride?" she tilted her head and glanced around, curious, for the reason she traveled so far was so that she might join them and in time call them family, and yet all she had managed to find was this one lioness.

Lani's tail flicked as she answered the other's question, taking note that she would honor her word. "Yes there are others besides just me and Desher. We are a large pride. Come, I'm sure you want to travel to the lands and rest. The desert is harsh, I learned that when I stumbled in with no idea where I was."
She had been there not too long but she enjoyed every minute of her life there. Even more when she spent time with Desher. He was patient with her and caring, he sheltered her.
"What is your companions name? I can see that you are with someone else." Would this other lion be stricken with curiosity at how she could see them like others were?
Lani was curious of the thing that was with Faon since she hadn't been around these creatures too much. She knew it was a bird that was all. That and it was friendly of course, or at least she hoped it was.

Faon nodded her head as she listened to the lioness's every word. She was careful to learn everything as fast as she could, since she had it set in her mind she wished to stay here. When Lani mentioned that this was a large pride, her chest swelled up with a most pleased feeling. And another smile ticked her nose as the lioness questioned her companion. "Oh, this is Borra. She is an eagle. I found her when she was young and learning to fly, she had a tumble from her nest." the lioness giggled. Something in her heart that day made her feel compassion to the tiny bird. "So I helped her to return to her mother. A few weeks later, she flew in for a surprise visit. We've been friends ever since!" she chuckled a bit as the eagle screeched her agreement and puffed out her feathers in pride. "Might I ask how you knew she was here while we travel to the pride lands? I really feel quite parched from this sun. I thought I was better prepared, but I suppose I was wrong." she asked, hoping it wasn't to bold of a question to ask.

Lani gave a curt nod at the eagle, "It is nice to meet you Borra. I'm glad you have someone looking out for you." Speaking to both on that one there. Compassion was something she wasn't quite used to yet, even with the company of Desher. She was learning what it meant to be loved. Although sometimes she was looked at in a slightly different light, not everyone gawked at her.
"I see in a different way you would. I feel the world around me. My other senses are heightened. I can smell your friend, hear the second sound of a heartbeat. And I see with the vibrations the world gives off. It doesn't give me color, just the basic shape. The shifting sands have skewed my sight so you're all a little fuzzy, so many vibrations its hard to pinpoint things. The more I work to live in the sands I believe the easier I will be able to see." Lani explained as she turned, "Come, I will lead you back. I've learned to see further and further in the desert so that I might not wander too far from the lands of my pride. I don't want to worry Desher in case he might have to come look for me."

"Oh that sounds quite extraordinary." she said as she glanced up at her companion then back at the lioness. "You are quite an amazing lion, I do admire you, from what little I have learned from you. You must remind me in the future to thank you properly." she nodded as she fell in step beside the lioness as she led her to the pride that would become her new home. Faon's imagination sparked at what she might see lying beyond the sand dunes and rolling desert plains. would there be marvelous temples? Under ground burrows of some sort? But whatever her mind imagined, it was not quite like what she set eyes upon as soon as they entered the pride lands. It was quite magnificent and nearly took her breath away. Her heart fluttered and skipped a few beats as she let her gaze soak over every inch of her new found home.
Tonight, a new journey began for Faon and Borra.
