Muka had been stalking the reaper known as Sparrow. Was it deliberate? Entirely. Was it creepy? Definitely. Was he good at it? For the most part. It started when he'd seen Sparrow with a cute ghoul with antlers and wings. They spoke gently to one another and the ghoul seemed shy but she held Sparrow's hand and he was very sweet with her. This was intriguing to the strix. His father encouraged him to meet ghouls, speaking of some family legacy, but Muka didn't quite get it. He enjoyed the company of all equally and the concept of romance was something he needed instruction in. Had Sparrow noticed him the last few days lurking in trees? He kept his normal form, a large owl with golden eyes, but he was in the shaded bits of the trees and doing his best to observe at a distance in hopes of absorbing Sparrow's secrets. He was there now, nothing seen in the tree besides the large golden orbs that were his eyes. Okay, they were a bit obvious.

Sparrow hadn't noticed, at least not for the first few days. Lost in his own thoughts, he was, unfortunately, quite oblivious to the fact that a large owl had been fluttering around following him for some time now.
He had seen it, occasionally, though usually out of the corner of his eye, and it had usually just been an idle observation of a normal Halloween creature. When he had seen it the second time, even the third, Sparrow had brushed it off, returning to his studies as normal and spending time with Wren.
At least until the fifth or sixth time he saw it, this time out of his own window, peering at him with large golden eyes.
That bird has been there every day, hasn't he? thought Sparrow, tapping his pencil against the desk and giving the creature a suspicious look. He couldn't quite figure out what they were doing, whatever they were - perhaps it was just one of those birds that attached themselves to someone.
Or maybe it was just something else entirely, though he couldn't think of what, exactly.
Pushing his chair back, Sparrow stood and crossed the room to the window, pulling it open and leaning out, giving the bird a pointed look.
"Might I help you?"

Muka was sure he had been disguised in this tree. He also really hadn't meant to stalk Sparrow all the way into his room but it just happened to end up that way. He was honestly about to fly off, REALLY, because Sparrow was writing or doing some other boring thing that didn't involve ghouls or romance. Unless he was writing a love letter.. WAS HE? "Might I help you?"His eyes bulged his beak dropped open and he simply let out a, "AAAHHHHH.. er.. WHOOOOOT." Muka's eyes blinked unevenly and his head tilted to the side. He was trying to play the fool, be a dumb bird and possibly get ignored, but his mannerisms just screamed his true identity though Sparrow barely know him. Had his botched owl sound fooled the reaper?

Sparrow really had no idea what the bird was. In fact, he had thought it was just a simple, ordinary creature of Halloween with a strange tendency to follow people around. And he had almost just turned around and dismissed it.
Almost. Until it flailed about in a very distinctly un-minipet like way.
Sparrow's eyes narrowed.
Quick as a flash, his hands shot out, grasping the owl tightly on its sides and pulling him back into the room, slamming the window shut quickly behind him. He set the bird onto the bed (the rest of his pets just stared accusingly at him, as though to say how dare you replace us with this), then ran to the door, locked it, and spun around, his back against it as he gave the thing an accusatory look.
"All right, give it up - who are you?"

Muka was grabbed in a very ungentlemanly fashion and dragged through the window. It was quite an accomplishment for a massive owl his size but most of his bulk seemed to be feathers. He was deposited on the bed and immediately began to giggle. "All right, give it up - who are you?" "I'm sorry I'm sorry!" His wings waved willy-nilly and there was a sound like bones breaking and cracking and sinew snapping. His flailing wings became cream and gold clad arms with glinting cufflinks, his taloned feet popped and extended into trousers with shiny white pointed shoes, and for a moment he seemed stuck like that - half owl-half boil. But then there was a grunt of exertion and the rest of him popped into place. Ulmuka was still giggling, holding his hand over his vicious looking smile. His shoulders wracked in laughs and he waved his hand at Sparrow as if to say 'hold on leave me for a minute well i get these giggles out.' While still laughing he extending a hand to any minipet nearby but a giant owl would probably be a predator to them so he didn't have much expectation for their attentions. "Hello Mr. Sparrow." He was still giggling slightly, a screechy hiss through his teeth, but he was getting a hold of himself.

Sparrow could not help the small wince that flashed across his face at the sound of snapping. It seemed a rather unpleasant transformation, but even he knew that shifting was not normally painful.
So he waited patiently for his stalker to reveal himself, stepping away from the door he'd been leaning on to fold his arms across his chest. The suspicious look on his face, however, was not changed, Sparrow's eyes narrowed as he scrutinized the owl.
Which was no longer an owl, in fact, but an extremely well-dressed young man dressed in all creams and gold, his wings still owlish and pressed against his back.
And he was...laughing. Sparrow was more than a little confused. Especially considering he had never seen this boil in his life before and he was now standing in the same room as him.
"Er...." he said, but then stopped for a moment, trying to figure out what the boil was, exactly. Some sort of owl shifter, apparently. The rest of his minipets were spread throughout the room; Dihi fluttered to rest on Sparrow's shoulder, while Copernicus curled at his feet, looking with a disgruntled expression at the newcomer.
...Mr. Sparrow? A blank look crossed his face.
"Er," he said again. "Who are you?"

"Ulmuka Knobwalker." He did a tiny bow and straightened his vest, post-transformation. "Sorry to frighten you! I am a new student." He could not remember clearly if they had met at Open House but if they had it was only for a moment. Muka stood up and strongly shook the other boil's hand. He was taught that men only respect strong handshakes but never to squeeze too hard. This made him a bit conscious of it everytime he shook a hand. "Did I scare you?!" The idea of scaring anyone was exciting but Sparrow didn't look very scared.

"Ulmuka...Knobwalker..." said Sparrow slowly as he scrutinized the boil in front of him. Now that he knew his name, he seemed vaguely familiar, as though he had met him briefly and just did not remember. "Er, a pleasure..."
He trailed off, blinking in bemusement.
"...no?" replied Sparrow, as though it were a question. While the owl had been...slightly disturbing at first, he was not scary, and Sparrow was not certain whether he was supposed to have been scared or not.
"At any rate," Sparrow waved a hand. "What are you doing outside my window, hmm?"

"Oh good." Muka snickered. He hadn't meant to frighten anyone, not right now anyway. "My intentions were innocent I swear!" The strix seemed a bit defensive but Sparrow was not very hostile, nor accusing, so he relaxed a bit. "I saw you about a week ago. With a ghoul." His eyes widened and he said 'ghoul' with a bit of a drawn out avian 'ooo' sound. He said 'ghoul' as if it were a taboo word. "And so I was just observing you. To learn." His head bobbled in confirmation of his statement. Was Sparrow some sort of guru in the ways of women?

Sparrow resisted the very strong impulse to facepalm, instead giving Muka an exasperated sort of expression.
"So you saw me with my ghoulfriend..." he said slowly, trying to figure out just where the other was taking this. Why did it matter that he was dating someone? Unless this boil was interested in Wren -
Sparrow stopped his internal musing.
"...er," he said. "what."

"I want to learn!" Muka squawked. "About ghouls. Courting.. whatever gift giving, dances, rituals that may be involved." His head bobbled excitedly. He had a feeling that going to Sparrow was the right move. "I also am unclear about feelings of love." His head tilted. "Could you explain?"
