This was the first time Devin had brought her back into the pit with her new tail. That had been the biggest advantage to all the potion injections; everything else had been more a cosmetic preference than anything else. But the tail alone was enough to make her feel... useful. Worthy. Able.

Whatever the word, Senna felt better. There was still none of the confidence in her that Seven exhibited regularly, and always a touch more caution and wonder in everything she did. But that was nothing that Devin could, or would, blame on the striped Mokai. That was simply who she was, and he wasn't out to try to change that.

What he did want to do was to help her improve. If she won, he hoped, she would realize that she needn't fear her own instincts, that fighting would come naturally to her like it did to her parents and her siblings, as long as she let herself get borne away by the natural flow of things. She had to stop thinking to begin with, and simply do. She had to learn to use her body the way she was meant to. Only then would strategizing become useful to her.

The pale Mokai turned her head to nuzzle Devin's hand as he held onto her collar. This time, they would both see if she had it in her.

At present, the young fighter was tugging at his leash, itching to get back into the ring since his last legal bout. He wasn't even an overly aggressive fighter either, which was probably to Jamie's benefit more than his, but being in the pit just brought a different side of him out -- and he liked it. The rush, the excitement, the risk, and, perhaps most of all, the release.

This was perhaps his only way of letting out his frustration without risking injury to his owner or anyone else in that family. Not that he hated them, but as of late his relationship with Jamie was just slipping, and it bothered him. A fighter and his or her master were supposed to be in sync, but they just didn't seem to match. The two of them were almost like oil and water, what with Jamie being the nervous wreck that he is when it comes to fights, and Rook an extremely eager fighter. It really just wasn't working, and at that point Rook wasn't sure whether he would rather stay with his wimp of an owner (he refused to refer to Jamie as his 'master' since his first illegal fight) or get sold off to the sales barn and wait for a better, more eager owner to take him in.

Rook's pale gray tail swatted the ground with impatience as he took a seat, the collar finally starting to choke him a bit too much, bi-colored eyes staring down the gate that stood between him and whoever his opponent would be for the day as though it would open sooner if he did. It opened soon enough and he was let off his leash. At that point, Rook let whatever distracting thoughts and emotions he had flood out of him as he went charging into the ring, claws and teeth bared, ready to take down whoever his opponent was.

Without wasting any time, her opponent came bowling toward her. Senna hadn't been expecting that sort of concentration. This male wasn't going to take any nonsense. The striped Mokai wasn't sure whether or not that was a good thing.

Forcing herself to focus, she watched him come at her, almost as though he was moving in slow motion. She knew what was coming, but not how to avoid it, except to... move?

Too late. She had just gathered herself to spring away when she felt the other Mokai plow into her. Oof. She felt herself tilt off balance, and half expected to fall before her new tail came to her rescue, swinging to equalize the balance and keep her on her feet.

The female stumbled back several steps from the impact, taking a breath to calm her nerves before launching herself forward for her own attack.

From where he was coming from he could see that his opponent looked a bit surprised with his charge. She seemed ready to take the hit though, so he sped up his pace a bit more to make sure that impact was just that much stronger. She was just about ready to get away, eliciting a low growl from the oncoming male, but he was faster.

The silvery-splotched mokai felt the impact and almost grinned with satisfaction of making contact, although she managed to recover quickly. It was a puzzling sight until he noticed her tail, which looked as though it was the reason she was able to keep her balance and only stumbled back from his attempted tackle. He narrowed his eyes at the sight, realizing that tilting her off balance may not work too well as a strategy for this fight, and when she came at him he countered with an attack of his own.

She got a few hits on him as they exchanged blows, but nothing he couldn't handle. He was hoping to return the favor though, and aimed his claws and snapping jaws at her neck.

Uh oh. She could see his teeth coming toward her, and tensed when she felt the contact. Every instinct told her to pull out of his grasp, but she held still. If there was anything she had learned from Seven - and there was plenty to learn from dear Seven - it was that pulling away only made things worse sometimes. Better to make him let go of his own volition.

Her ears flattened as her mind raced, seeking a solution to her sticky situation. Out of the corner of her eye, she spied that long, fluffy tail that had already come to her aid. Ah! More of Seven's tricks. Twisting her body, the striped Mokai sent her tail flailing at her opponent's side, hoping that it would land a hit strong enough to startle him into letting go.

Ha! Another hit, the young fighter thought while trying to figure out how to do the most damage now that he was latched onto his opponent. He didn't have too much time, assuming she was trying to figure a way out of his grap, and he did the first thing that really came to mind - shake his head as violently as he possibly could. Hey, it worked on the dummy during the training sessions, why wouldn't it work now?

And so he did just that, or tried to until he felt a ticklish sort of whap from what he assumed was her tail, and he let go out of slight surprise. Ticklish? Well that couldn't be right; when he looked again though, that damned tail was indeed what hit him. Quirking a brow, he regarded his opponent for the first time that night.

"What the heck kind of tail is that?" he asked while jumping at her again; he couldn't just stop fighting because he was curious about some strange tail he'd never dealt with before.

Good thing she'd hit him just in time to stop the head shaking. Really, now, wasn't that unnecessary! That bite would probably sting for a few days yet. At least he had let go, and the tail whack had worked. She would have to keep that in mind for future reference. Maybe she could even learn to wield it as a proper weapon of sorts, though she doubted that.

"Uhm... a new one?" She managed to say before dashing in for an attack of her own. She had a long way to go before she would get nearly as sassy as Seven was. As it was, she only had... well... fairly literal responses to make.

He really had nothing else to say when she answered, partially because he got preoccupied with exchanging claw swipes and jaw snaps with the female and partially because well.. it was a pretty straightforward answer, though it wasn't all that satisfying. In any case, he just had to make sure he didn't let whatever kind of tail it was bother him in terms of this fight. It'd be a pretty embarrassing loss if he let such a minor detail get to him. Hell, there were mokai that had horns growing out the top of their heads, and that was more cause for concern than an odd tail. If this got to him, he had no chance in a fight against someone aiming to impale him rather than just lightly smacking him on the side with a funny tail.

Her attack pushed him back somewhat, and while she went on the offense Rook had taken on a defensive position, biding him time until he could make a proper attack.

Defense, interesting. Somewhat. She wasn't really in a position to analyze what was going on. All she knew was action, reaction. She couldn't, for the life of her, figure out where Seven found the time to plan and strategize during battle.

Taking advantage of his defense, she moved forward with a fiercer attack, aiming her fangs at his ears, shoulder, or whatever she could reach. Anything was better than nothing, and she didn't have very high hopes for herself at this point. One step at a time, that was the way to do it.

Going on defense - definitely not a good idea. She kept pushing forward, and soon enough Rook found his rear end basically up against the wall of the ring behind him. Not the best place to be while he tried to think about how he could possibly weasel his way out of this situation, but he managed well for a time, only taking a few hits to his shoulders.

Eventually he started aiming for her legs, hoping it would get her to step back and he could start going on the offense this time. Unfortunately for him, her attacks started getting more intense, and while he dove to take a chunk of her leg, he felt her teeth sink into his shoulder, drawing blood for the first time that night. He growled angrily and, instead of going with his first idea, he attempted to use her being latched onto him in his favor and put his entire weight behind a tackle. Even if it meant her bite would scar, as long as he didn't lose, he didn't really care too much.

She felt his tackle push her back, and was just about to react when the bell rang, signalling the end of the fight. Knowing that somebody would come in to break up the fight if she didn't let go soon, she unclenched her jaw, releasing his shoulder before turning to trot back to where Devin stood beside the arena.

"Good fight," she added, pausing and turning to face her opponent one more time. And then, formalities done, she made her way back to Devin, who patted her fondly and told her she'd done him proud.

Senna certainly hoped so. If anyone, she hoped he would be proud of her. He was the one who had drawn her out of her timid little shell, and he was the one who ought to be there, ringside, when she finally found her stride. She had a ways to go yet, perhaps, but she was slowly getting there, and it pleased her to no end that Devin was the one sharing these moments of personal growth and accomplishment with her.

As he went to attach a lead onto her collar, Senna turned back to the pit one more time. No longer was it a strange and altogether unfamiliar place; no longer did the crowds scare her. It was becoming... not home, but a place where she belonged. And that, after all, had been the goal all along.

He was partially relieved that the bell rang before she could react, and he let out a low growl of pain when she unclenched her jaw from where it was currently attached on his shoulder, the blood starting to drip down from the injury. Another part of him wanted to keep on going though, as he was a bit dissatisfied with his own performance; it wasn't a loss, but then it wasn't a win either. It felt incomplete, somehow, but he had no choice but to settle.

He snorted lightly and was about to turn away when she spoke to him, so he turned back and nodded. "Back at 'cha," Rook replied, then turned away again and walked out of the pit to Jamie, who was awaiting ringside. The teen offered a brief word of congratulations, then something about going to the infirmary to get his shoulder checked out. Rook didn't really pay much attention anymore to Jamie anymore. Disrespectful, absolutely, but as far as he was concerned the teen hadn't done much to earn any sort of respect from him anyway.
