It had been a while since he and Gale had practiced. Mostly since they just didn't have time. Missions kept cropping up and they found themselves getting more and more work. Cleaning duties, guarding, repair, maintenance, minipets. Life was slowly becoming routine now, broken up by the occasional missions on the side. Today was a bit of a day off, and the moon trainee decided it was time to see if the death hunter had gotten any better. A text message had gone out to him. Quote: Sparring rematch? If y, 12 by the jungle. If N just tell me so we can hitup cafe 4 cookies. He was slowly getting addicted to them. In his defense... he kept it to one a day. They work him up in the mornings and put a bit of pep in his step. More than coffee at least. Noon, and no text back. Marcus was waiting patiently by the jungle outskirts.

When he had gotten the text from Marcus, Gale had been in the process of lounging around on his bed, being completely and utterly bored.
<< Gale. >>
"What?"

Leaning over the side, Gale's fingers grappled for the cell, pulling it towards him. He sincerely hoped it wasn't Caelius, wanting them to go on yet another horrible mission, but when he flipped it open he saw the name Marcus Hasan flash across his screen briefly.
Gale eyed the text somewhat suspiciously. He'd now lost to Marcus not once, not twice, not even three times, but four times in the past two weeks, and though Gale had been determined to come back again and again until he did win, it did not mean that he was not severely disgruntled by the losses.
Except he was promoted now. Jinhai had gotten an upgrade, which meant that maybe, just maybe - Gale stood a chance.
He debated internally for several moments. Then -
And, five minutes later, Gale was strolling up to the other hunter, hands pushed casually into his pockets.
"Afternoon, Marcus."

As gale approached there was something different. It wasn't his hair, nor, was it his outfit, (just a regular pair of sweats, nothing fancy about that). Hrm... he kind of looked like he had some swagger going on. Eh, that was probably it. Who was he to judge. Having a bit of swag was never a bad thing in his books. "Glad you could make it out Gale!" He smiled, waving at him. Dis was summoned, and the weapon was practically smirking. Time for another win right? Marcus didn't care so much as he just wanted to get better.
"Ready for another round?"

Smiling, he didn't hesitate, going right at Gale. "Got to be ready, man!" A quick slash as his torso. "You know I don't hold back."

Gale lifted a had in greeting, smiling genially at the other hunter. He did not know how well this battle would go - but he was feeling distinctly confident for a very specific reason.

I won't.
"I know," said Gale, already leaping backwards as the sword caught his abdomen. He winced automatically, reaching a hand down to press against his lower chest. "And I appreciate you not holding back, since it means you take me seriously as a Hunter. But just so you know - "
There was a flash of white light, and the ring on Gale's left index finger disappeared. In his hands appeared a rifle - but not the same sniper rifle he had had before. This one was almost twice the size of his first one, the end of the barrel glowing.
There was a grin on Gale's face now.
" - I just got promoted."
Then he promptly swung the rifle around towards Marcus' legs.

WELL. No wonder the guy had a big of a swagger going on. He would too with a promotion. The gun got a bit of a deer in headlights look, after all, he couldn't ignore something that big and be looking at the business end. The hit pushed im back winding him for a good few seconds. Hot damn this was a fight! The recovering from the hit, he didn't really have a good way to attack.
"Congrats Gale. Doesn't mean I'm just going to bend over though. got to keep you on your toes."

"Oh, no," said Gale mildly, as he darted away from Marcus' sword, Jinhai's amused comments echoing in his head. "I'm sure you could probably beat me anyway, even with the fact that I've been promoted. I mean," he said, with a small shrug. "It's not as if the promotion will suddenly make me taller or more physically fit. I've got to keep working it myself, you know?"
He swung the gun around again, this time rearing it back and taking aim for Marcus' torso.
"But having Jinhai upgraded definitely makes things easier."

"OH ********." The hurt. This fast and parts of his body were throbbing. "Either way, it's good. A challenge." He was definitely going to hit up the gym more at this rate. Grip tightening, Marcus slashed out at Gale, going for his arm. "Just shows me what I have to strive for."

Gale let out a soft hiss of pain at the cut to his arm, flinching as he darted backwards. Jinhai made a noise of amusement, and Gale found he was becoming rapidly more energized with each swing of the sword, each hit from the gun.
"I'm sure once you're promoted, you'll go back to kicking my arse."

Marcus smiled. "Not for a while. Maybe soon, but not for a while." He swung wide, missing Gale. "You're a head of me already, I hardly think that means once I get a promotion I'll kick your a**."

"Why not?" asked Gale, leaping back from the swipe of the sword. "You've kicked my arse four times already, mate. Something tells me you'll only get better."
This was all said quite congenially, the smile on Gale's face growing as he spun the rifle around in his hands and sent it careening towards Marcus' back.

There was a crack as Marcus was sure his back just popped. Well that might bruise later. And by might, it would. Oh well. Better than getting cut up or shot for real. "Yeah well," He spun, kicking out. "You didn't get promoted first for nothing after all." His foot landed, hopefully putting some distance between him and the sniper.

Gale staggered sideways, his fingers grappling for the rifle that he was about to drop. Marcus' kick had taken him off guard, and now he was slightly dizzy, swaying a little on his feet.
"I almost thought I hadn't been, to tell you the truth," said Gale, wiping sweat off his brow. "Caelius was pissed at me for not giving him all of the information I should have from the first Sahara mission."

yeah right. gale was pretty persistent as far as hunters went. he was at everything- "Pish, don't see why. He brought us out there. He knew what happened. Dead bodies-" A shudder. "I never want to do that again."A slash to gale's chest. "Why, did you have another mission out there?"
