"Auuuugh! Just GREAT!" he called out, directing his anger towards the sky. It had begun to rain, and he wasn't even halfway home yet. The paper bags he carried would surely give way to the heavy groceries inside in this downpour. The weather on the radio this morning sad it would be cloudy all day, but they never mentioned anything about a shower, or a rain, or a downpour! Hopefully, he thought, their mistake meant this wouldn't last long.

He briskly walked through the wet street. The environment was so different here than it was in America. Some people stared at him and some made fun of him - at least he thought they did. He couldn't understand them one-hundred percent. He was new to the language, and could only pick up key phrases and words. It was going to be rough.

Sick of walking in the rain, he took a sharp turn at small shop tucked betwixt two clothing stores. It had a bright sign with Chinese letters; but the elegance is not what caught his attention. The delicious mixed aromas of tea made his mind melt. A nice hot cup of joe - or tea - would be great right about now. The rain chilled him to the bone, and maybe he could ask for a better bag - his paper bags could not last much longer.

He walked in and wiped his feet off on the welcome mat and stood around, not sure if he were to sit on his own, or was to be seated by someone. "Yo? Anyone around? Uhm... Konnichiwa? I think..." he set his bags on the floor beside him and stretched his sore arms.

It had been a dreadfully droll today for the vet. Wei Xin had decided that in the middle of the downpour of rain, a common occurance as Japan hit its winter season, that he wanted to play with the little bat Xiao Bao from the peddler's shop.

It had been awhile since the vet had seen the other man, something he found was in itself a thing to remedy. Not only did he enjoy bothering the man to no end but, he was always guaranteed a good hot cup of tea and well, he was pretty sure he forgot to pay the gas again, maybe that was why the house was so cold.

"Shen-ru! I don't have all the time in the world to wait for you! We're going now!" Wei's voice rang out. Shrugging, the man ran a hand through his messy hair before shrugging on his white coat over his sweatshirt and jeans, slipping his feet into some slip ons before rubbing his chin. Another day growths stubble....He really needed to remember to shave that soon.

Wei rushed out past him as they took the small walk to the tea stall. No matter where the stall was, Shen had some way of it being nearby. Was it because of Wei Xin that kept him tied? Or maybe because Shen-Ru was emotionally tied to the Peddler. Whatever it was, he always knew his way.

Shaking off his hair as he entered the stall, Wei again running past him. Somehow the boy knew where Xiao was all the time. Or maybe Xiao knew where the boy was instead.

"XIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAOOOOOOO." Wei's voice echoed away. Rubbing his face he wandered around the kitchen, looking for the peddler before sighing.

The man was avoiding him.

Again.

Well nothing more to do then but wait in the serving room. Xiong would make his way to him sometime soon.

As he entered the room though, he was greeted by a less enthusiastic man, drenched in water.

"Oh a guest! Can I help you with something?" Shen ran another hand through his damp hair, looking the man up and down with a easy smile.

Travis looked at the enthusiastic and and rolled his words in his mouth to figure out what he had said to him, slowly translating it in his mind. After he realized he just greeted him, he replied with a simple "Yo," however, in English.

He looked around the empty room; it was just them. He tapped his foot where he stood and scratched his hair, trying to string together a coherent line of Japanese. "So, uh, can I have some tea, sir?" he asked, looking at the floor embarrassed. He never had to say more than a 'hi' or a numbered amount before. He hoped his rough Japanese was okay.

Shen eye'd the man again before realizing that he was speaking in English before correcting his response so that he could reply back. Though he was fluent in Japanese, he was also in English, living in the states for a few years. He tried again, cocking his head.

"Sorry, Hello." He rubbed his chin, eyeing the man, "Pleasure to meet you." He wasn't sure about the customs of tea stalls in America but...well, he wasn't even sure about it here. In fact, Xiong usually handled guest that made it to the Tea Stall but the Peddler wasn't around what so ever and he ran his hand through his hair...again.

"Uh excuse me for not noticing. Why don't you set your stuff over..." He looked around before waving to a table. "Right here." He grinned, "Take a seat uh...Customer. Tell me about your troubles? I think that's what I am suppose to say." Shen shuffled around, adjusting his coat. He honestly looked like a disheveled mess, certainly not the right man for the Tea stall.

He gestured again to the seat, "I'm not sure what to make for you friend, so sit down, tell me what troubles you and then I can grab a tea suited for you." A cup was already forming on the table as they spoke. Oh that was cool, no wonder the peddler loved his job.

Travis looked wide eyed at the man and gave a large smile. *Hey! You speak English? Thanks God! I don't mean t'hate, but being Tri-Lingual is really hard. Japanese isn't like English or Russian, so I keep mixing them all up." He took his bags that were at his feet and lifted them when the bottoms of the wet bags gave way and threw his groceries all over the floor like a storm. Luckily, none of the cans or fruit leaked or broke open, thankfully. He dropped the wet paper bags on the floor where the rest of his items where and kicked and rolled his items over the table the worker advised him to sit at.

He sat down and the table and stretched out liberally. "You don't gotta be so formal. Just say what you want. There's no script." he said, scratching his head and taking off his fedora, placing it on the seat beside him. "Uhhh. My troubles? Well, for one I just moved to a new and foreign country and can't speak the language worth s#!7. Everyone stares at me cuz I'm from America, you know? I moved here cuz I had to get away from my home. Why not go to the other f***ing side of the Earth? No one can find me here. Not when this city has more people livin' in it than all of freaking Canada." He yawned into his hand, into his hand in hopes to clean his mouth from his swears. There was more to his troubles than moving to a new place, but he didn't feel he wanted to tell it to a stranger.

Shen grinned at the man as he continued to fluently speak in English and tucked his hands in his lab coat, fiddling with a candy in one of them. "I hear you on that my brother. I am Chinese and English, defenitly don't speak a lick of Japanese. It's a good thing though in this culture, especially New Tokyo that many have begun to learn English, being as it is the most universal language." He watched as the bag split though and instantly sighed, man this guy had it bad. "Hold on a second, I think I can give you something for those." Shen disappeared for a second to get a small bag from one of the many back rooms and bringing it back. He handed it to the man before nodding.

"Not the best way to start a night yeah?" he smiled easily as he sat at the table he gestured. "You'd think that, but somewhere, the owner of this shop woould be pretty upset if I didn't treat you like he treats customers." He thought, mildly for a second that Lu Xiong wouldn't like Shen's interpretation of how Xiong did business....but well since the peddler wasn't around...

If Shen was offended by the language of the other man, he didn't show it and instead offered only a easy smile. In the middle of the table, slowly forming to what Shen was sure was only available to his eyes at the moment, was the small white china cup. Did the peddler think ahead for when he wasn't available to his guest? Shen had guessed so.

"A new country can be exciting but just as scary. Don't you think it's better to see it as a new adventure? You said you wanted to escape yes?" Shen still offered a simple smile, easing the man into relaxing. "I often have a hard time when I got to other countries for seminars, though I haven't done it since I was a college boy. What made you leave your home and family? We're you searching for something?"

Travis grinned as well, but continued to vacantly stare in front of him. "Yeah, Japanese is a lot different than Russian and English. I hope I don't loose either off those languages trying to fit in. Losing something to fit in .. 'th'idea doesn't swing well with me." He took out a toothpick from his pocket and opened the wrapper and started to chew on it. His mouth was lonely, and he didn't think the man with him would allow him to smoke in this establishment.

When the other man handed him a bag, his face lit up. "Hey, thanks so much, man!" he said, but put it beside him instead, not to interrupt their conversation. "Yeah, I haven't been here long, so this bag thing was just the extra kick in the pants." He rubbed the back on his head and yawned. "The reason I left home, huh? Well," he chuckled, "that's a long story. I don't think ya got the time fer that." He left his thought as is. He didn't want to tell his story - it was rather lengthy, full of angst and drama, and the other man may not appreciate such a mongrel in his store!

"Anyway, man. Sorry to cut out friendly chat short, but I came in fer tea. Whatcha got, and how much is it? Surely a place as nice as this has the best tea and the "best" prices.?"

Shen made a small sound that agreed with the languages before sighing. Okay the peddler really hadn't appeared and the cup wasn't even filling up. did this mean that Shen had to figure out how to make the damn drink?

"Long stories make for great time waster's..." Shen mumbled before sighing. he had never meant someone who kept their secrets close.

"Oh right, I suppose you'd like something to drink." He grinned mischievously though as he tugged at the cup in the middle of the table. Oddly enough, as he pulled it from the middle, it filled with a nice bitter scent. It tickled his nose and he set it in front of the other man.

"We don't really have a menu, Tea's are decided based on what you need." He shrugged as he pushed the first empty but now full cup of tea at the other man. "Your's has been sitting here for awhile, waiting for you to take notice of him." Shen left of mischievously again, a weird twinkle in his eye. "Why don't you take a sip of that and tell me what you think."

"I wouldn't want to waste your time. Shouldn't this place be full of people? Isn't Japan, like, known, for drinking tea or something?" He closed his eyes and yawned loudly. Was it Japan? Maybe it was China... Close enough.

Travis opened his eyes and squinted at Shen at his choice of words. Him? Tea's don't have genders. It must have been a language barrier, he thought, and reached out for the tea. "Sorry. I guess I talked too much to notice it." He took a sip to test the temperature and then drank the rest quickly. He was still drenched from earlier, and his wet clothes made him cold. He wanted to drink the tea as fast as possible to be as warm as possible in the smallest amount of time. After, he felt stupid. Drinking the tea slower would have made him warmer longer. Damnit.

He rubbed his tongue on the top of his mouth, letting the bitterness of his tea sink into his taste buds. He disliked the taste, he didn't mind bitter food, but he sure didn't like them. The tea was very bitter, almost to the point of sour. The strong taste woke him up, at least. "Wow that's uh... Really strong. I don't think I've had a tea so strong, but I guess this place is high class and not some shitty dollar store type tea." He set the cup back down on the saucer and pushed it back. "I don't think I'll be needing another. Way to strong for me."

If he had been in a hurry, or had a watch, now was the moment to check it. But he was in neither situation, so he sat in an awkward silence. Should he say thanks and leave? Pack his bags first? Oh right, he still has to pay...

"Uhh. What do I owe ya for 'yer time and the tea?" he asked, putting his hand into his pocket to reach for his wallet, which was home to a few cobwebs.

"It's not really a waste of time..." he mumbled as he ran a hand through his messy hair. It seemed to be a habit he had, one that came out when he wanted to reassure other people that despite his laid back personality, he was very aware of emotions and feelings they were projecting. That being said, he was quite aware that Travis seem to be in a hurry. Then again, because he didn't often run the tea shop, he didn't know just how people acted.

He almost sent a quizzical grin at the man. So the magic for been his eyes only to see, that was this place for you. Or perhaps it was the Peddler working behind the scenes? Who knew, that man was damn unpredictable and tens time harder to find then a blooming lotus blossom.

"Hmmm." He replied back about the taste. He wouldn't understand anything about then since the taste of his tea had been spicy...with a small kick and a whole lot of smooth. "I don't think you'll need another as well. One tends to be too much as is." He left off again before getting up, helping the man pack his groceries in the new bag before escorting him to the door. "I'd say this one is on the house friend." Shen cocked his head before looking at the cup in the man's hand, "I'd hold on to that for good luck, I think after your troubles, you'll have something to look forward to." Shen smiled again. "Thanks for visiting and be sure to take good care of yourself and him. I'll see you again soon most likely." His grin turned almost coy, as if hinting at something cosmically greater.
