They say that while the cat is away that the mice will play but today it was quite different. Today it was the cats who would play while the kids were away. The park was the prime location for a kitten to play at, especially one she was already familiar with from playing in it as a human child. There were so many interesting things to do when you were so small. Standing on the grass, Hypnos wearily looked at a nearby tree before deciding she wasn't going to be climbing up and getting stuck in one of THOSE again. Instead the kitten prowled her way toward the slides.
Hypnos was thankful that this particular playground had large and flat wooden stairs that she could carefully jump up onto with a bit of effort. It took a bit of time but the kitten eventually made her way up to the top, becoming the princess kitten of the playground! She bounced to either side of the deck to see if anyone was around. She had the best view of the whole park from up here and for all she could see, she couldn't see any children.
Triumphant mew? Definitely, and with it the kitten slowly edged her way over to the edge of the slide. She was curious, her nose slowly getting closer and closer as she attempted to get a better look at the height from here. She'd slid down this slide before but how different would it be now? There was only one way to tell and that was to take the first step! It was a doosey of a step though! The fur that kept the kitten warm in the November weather was the very culprit that allowed her to slip down the surface so easily.
"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh!" was the sound the echoed all around the playground as the kitten slid down.

The kiddy playground was a pretty neat place – at least it was pretty neat when the kids weren't around – from his experience little kids were waaay too prone to pull kitty tails.
When they were gone though, well the adventure-type climbing frame made a pretty neat look out spot and the little covered place under the climbing frame made a pretty good place to sleep at nights – that is if you were kitty-sized. Athene could testify to the truth of that given that under the climbing frame had been his sleeping place of choice these past few nights.
Athene headed towards the playground at a slow trot, he'd thought he'd seen the last of the kids being taken (presumably home) by their parents, but you never could tell and he didn't feel like having to leg it away from an over-eager five year old today.
As he pushed his way through the gap in the railing, a sound caught his attention. It was loud enough that the dark-eared cat could hear it all across the playground, but Athene thought it had come from the direction of the slides.
Curiosity had him making his way over, caution – maybe it was a stray kid – made his padded paw-steps slow. Whatever it was though, the sound had been pretty loud.

The kitten had reached the bottom of the slide but she didn't dare jump out and off of it yet. No, first she thought she would try and climb back up the slide like many children often did. It was a difficult task for children and it proved just as difficult of a task for the kitten, her fur definitely being the defining error each time. Unable to get up, the kitten paused at the bottom of the slide again. She could hear footsteps and they sounded close!
A small head peeking out from the slide, the kitten looked around carefully to see who was coming. She could see long legs, four of them! It definitely wasn't a child and with that the kitten leapt out of the slide and padded her way toward the other cat with great curiosity.

There was no one there. No one except for a little kitten. Wait kitten? Grey eyes closed and then opened again in a slow blink of surprise that the grey-eared cat would never admit to – but yes there was a kitten peeking at him from the kiddies' slide. A kitten with a little golden star on its forehead.
Not quite what Athene had been expecting when he'd decided to cautiously pad across the playground in search of the sound he'd heard from across the playground – in fact he still had trouble believing that this kitten was it – there didn't seem to be any kids of the human variety though.
The kitten was padding its way over so Athene called out a polite “Good evening.” The other cats with stars had turned out to be of the talking variety, mayhaps this little kitten would be too.

Her curiosity had been rewarded because the cat had turned out to be another one of those magical talking cats that she enjoyed so much. Although she didn't mind playing alone, without Octavian Oswald around to keep her company, it started to get lonely by herself. It was now that she realized how much she was missing the little fluff ball and the company of others.
"Hello," she replied softly. "My name is Hypnos, would you like to play with me?"

“Pleased to meet you Hypnos, my name is Athene.” Looked like he'd been right about the little kitten being of the talking cat variety, although it didn't necessarily mean she was of the senshi variety or even the guardian cat variety – meeting Kathryn had taught him that much – the brown-coated cat had been neither senshi nor guardian cat.
He gave Hypnos a curious look at the mention of play, but he didn't mind spending a little bit of time playing with the other cat, it wasn't as if there was anywhere else for the dark-eared cat to be just now “Sure, I can play for a little bit. What sort of game did you have in mind?”

He agreed to play with her? What luck! She hadn't thought about a game to play though, and it left the kitten wondering curiously for a few moments as her eyes surveyed the park area they were currently located in. It was certainly a prime location for playing, although being cats certainly made it more difficult. She needed something that wouldn't be too difficult but still entertaining. That's what she spotted the hopscotch game on a patch of pavement. She moved over beside it, put her paw onto it and looked at Athene.
"Do you know how to play?"

Athene eyed the hopscotch squares “Um as a human yes.” He’d played hopscotch in primary school – what kid hadn’t? “If I remember right, you just need to remember to hop on the single square, right?” Well it had been a while since his junior school days. The dark-eared cat had another look at the squares “Although I’m not sure how it will work in this form” Athene added quietly referring to their current four-pawed status – somehow he had the feeling that hopping was pretty much out of the question.
