Laying out in the sun with his eyes closed to almost slits, Bodhrain Tar basked pleasantly, enjoying the weather. He stretched out a leg to work out some kinks in the muscles and yawned wide, tongue happily lolling out, ears flopping in enjoyment. It was a gorgeous day to be alive. The breeze was sweet, a tree nearby in case it got too sunny, the ground soft under his paws, the beautiful sounds of a creature desperately struggling for its life. So very pleasant.

He perched his head on top of his paws and glanced over at the poor thing. A young gazelle entrenched in fast drying mud up to its haunches, flailing to get its legs up over the surface, its eyes wide and constantly staring at him. It knew it was doomed if it didn't get out, but doomed if it did; the hyena would surely eat it. Yet it kept fighting, and Bodhrain smiled and casually watched the unfolding entertainment.

Aleta had been puttering around the rogue lands, straying only a short distance from her mother and aunt even though she knew it was unlikely either would come to her rescue. Not that she would want them to anyways. But she also didn't want them to move on with out her. So staying near them was the only option she had. As she walked her tiny paws were not making big enough strides for the distance she was covering and her paws were already beginning to hurt. She refused to stop and rest. This was training in her mind, pain was necessary. The sun felt like it was burning into her skin, but she needed to endure. If just for a little while.

Her ears perked and her head tilted from side to side as she listened to what sounded like mud being sputtered out of the ground. She was a bit surprised to hear a creature trapped in it when the sun was shining so brightly above, but then again it was probably a stupid creature that wouldn't have lived past it's first summer. It would have gotten caught by a predator like her mother. Or so she thought. Deciding to get a closer look and prove herself right she followed the sounds until she finally reached the mud hole. In it was a baby gazelle struggling to get free. It seemed to be staring at something even as it tried to free itself. Her eyes followed the heads direction and noticed a hyena not more then a couple feet from her. How stupid she had been to blatantly walk near this creature knowing that it was possible a predator was waiting for it to break free. Her teeth gritted bitterly against one another as her tail flicked behind her. Her small gray ears pulled back and a low rumble came out of her chest that would probably not scare the hyena. But she wanted to make sure that if he decided to attack she wouldn't go willingly. She would fight until he was blinded if she had to.

Hearing a noise that was most definitely not a poor gazelle keening in fear, Bodhrain peered around his surroundings curiously. He eventually tracked the little rumble to a shape nearby. Hah, a lion cub. Another quick glance about confirmed... it was on its own out here. No mother, no male to defend it? What an intriguing prospect. The cub was acting aggressively towards him, also curious. Surely it knew it was alone, and he was many times bigger.

He was torn though, between his current entertainment and the prospect of a new one. Toying with a cub might be a great deal of fun, and anyway, the gazelle wasn't going anywhere. But he really did want to be watching when the beast finally gave up. He wanted to see the moment that the last glimmer of hope fade from its exhaustion glazed eyes. But... his tongue rubbed the top of his mouth, as he wondered absently what the cub might taste like. Probably not as good as he'd hope. Fear always added a little extra spark to the blood, and this one looked fearless. Well, that was boring then.

So he simply cocked his head and stared at the cub with a toothy grin. "You're a bit far from home, sweet thing. Did you come hoping to eat this gazelle? It's yours for the having if you like, I've fed. But it might be a daunting prospect getting it out of the mud. For one as small as yourself."
