- Hopefully this reminder isn't necessary, but please bear in mind that Wardwood's setting is very similar to late 1700s/early 1800s England -- characters should seem relatively appropriate to the time period. References to modern clothing, fashion, and technology should be avoided at all costs! Since this is fantasy universe, you are allowed to be imaginative (for example, your scientist character could be involved in the advent of steam technology and regularly invent strange gadgets) but we don't want to see any governesses who wear cargo pants, dye their hair pink and listen to music on an iPod.
On a related note, steer clear of magical elements that do not exist in Wardwood -- characters should not have features like wings and color-changing eyes, nor should they be supernatural beings like vampires and werewolves (although legends of these types of creatures do exist in Wardwood's mythology).
Wardwood's social atmosphere also reflects that of late 18th/early 19th century Britain. Gender inequality, repression, the works! Rather than seeing these factors as limiting, consider how they can assist in character development, personal plots, and delicious, delicious IC conflict and drama.
If you use non-shop artwork in your profile, make sure it has been drawn by you, drawn for you, or you've obtained explicit permission from the artist to use it to represent your character. (Some free-use material like doll makers may also be acceptable, but please check the website and/or artist's terms of use first.) Potential art theft will be taken very seriously!
Lastly, and most importantly, don't hesitate to make things up if you need to! If you want your character to be from another country you are free to invent that country, as long as it corresponds at least loosely to something found in our own world (if you're unsure, simply saying something like "my character comes from the Wardwood equivalent of Egypt" is also acceptable).
