Athene had adopted the third park bench near the gates leading in and out of the park as his lounging spot of choice.
Although not much good as a place to spend the night (due to lack of a well actual roof), it was a comfortable place to flop out during the day and watch the world go round for a bit.
It was also relatively close to the little cupcake bakery from which Athene had been getting bits of bread roll for breakfast – okay so on four paws it was a bit of a trot, but at least it was on the same side of the road.
Right now Athene was sprawled out on as much of the park bench – his park bench – as possible and watching the few people about.

It was almost ironic that Juno, the senshi of canopy, had taken to the trees almost immediately after becoming a very strange and lanky green and brown cat. Sure there were lots of fun things to do and explore, but somehow this seemed to be the place that called her back everytime. The wonderful sensation of bark beneath her sharp claws. The amazing feeling of stability and surprise at the same time. Sometimes the wind would blow a branch just right and she'd almost bowl over. But instead of freaking out Juno would only laugh, falling off one only to grasp at and claw her way onto another. Leaping from branch to branch, dangling and swinging it was almost like she was a tiny acrobat in a world made just for her.
Tuckered from a morning of playing and romping through the large, almost leafless tree Juno had let hers settle in on one of the thick branches to nap for awhile. Green eyes blinked a few times lazily as she awoke, mouth opening in a wide yawn before the scent and aura of someone else nearby caught her curiousity. There was another cat nearby, on the bench by the other side of the tree. She sniffed the air tentatively, before getting up with a lazy stretch, playful grin taking over her maw.
A few quick strides brought her across the branches, and he might have heard the soft shifting of branches under her weight. When she finally found herself over him, she crouched a moment, before jumping down with a playful twitch of the tail.
If she was lucky and her aim was good she'd land on the poor cat. But she still wasn't great at estimating her body size yet so it could have been off. From above a chipper shout sounded, in Portuguese, from the falling cat. "Ola Gato!!"

There hadn't been enough people around to make people-watching particularly interesting and it hadn't taken long for Athene to snooze off into a nap.
Little did he know that a certain green eyed kitty was about to make him wish that he hadn't picked that particular bench as a sprawl-out spot.
Caught up as he was in slumber, the dark-eared cat completely missed the whispers of sounds of being snuck up on. In fact Athene was mid-deep in the middle of a dream about hot delicious sausages when he was awoken by the weight of a green-haired cat landing on him.
The noise that escaped his kitty throat – closest described an indignant yowl – was loud enough to echo around the immediately vicinity. “What was that for?” Yes it was safe to say that Athene was not a happy kitty.

There was a very loud yowl and a yell of protest that sent the fur along Juno's spine sticking straight upwards in some surprise of her own. She didn't know WHY she hadn't expected such a reaction, but she nonetheless hopped quickly back off of the poor squashed cat as soon as he made the sound, calling out quickly. "Sorry!"
Her ears were perked in high alert, eyes as big as the line of fur that stood along her back. Aggressive though, she was not, but neither was she submissive. Instead she simply kind of stared at the other cat for a long moment, before offering matter of factly. "Do not be wuss. You are okay, yes?"
One paw reached out tentatively, head cocking. "No things broken, yes?"

“No nothing's broken” and the green cat was right he was okay – well as okay as anyone who had been unpleasantly awoken by being squished. Athene's voice was a little frosty as he spoke the words to his fellow cat, the other cat's 'wuss' comment getting to him a little – honestly it wasn't wussy to be unhappy about being pounced on. Especially not when napping.
At last politeness kicked in, Athene drawing himself up into a sitting position and tried his hardest not to stare too much at the star on the other cat's forehead star “I'm Athene.” The dark-eared cat wondered if the cat before him was another of those people-turned-cats as he waited to see if the other would give a name in return.

Sometimes Juno was a little.. oblivious to social cues and proper interaction. It was why she did things like throwing around comments that came off as abrasive. Or why she didn't particularly notice the frosty words that were directed her way. In fact all of that was simply brushed away as a vaguely familiar name touched her ears, cat eyes widening along with the feline grin on her maw. "Ohh oh!!"
"I know you!" She hopped on her feet in familiar enthusiasm and excited energy.
"I am Juno. We fought in big Gladiator battle thing together."
She was still a little irked at being kicked out, but it wasn't directed at her one time opponent, no.. more so at the senshi running the contest. It was a battle contest after all! Why had she got kicked out for battling? But Juno wasn't really the sort to dwell on things for long or hold grudges. In fact she even seemed to apologize a little as her green tail swished back and forth.
"I have been told I am too rough sometimes." As a senshi.. as a volleyball player.. even just as a highschooler.. it seemed the girl didn't really know her strength, or care enough to try and be gentle.

At the 'I know you' comment, Athene blinked startled. He was pretty sure this was their first time meeting. Mention of the Gladiator battle thing only served to puzzle him more – he'd only competed against two senshi in Sailor Polaris' Duels of Destiny event and had only managed to get the name of one – Sailor Grus. He didn't recall meeting a Juno, Sailor or otherwise.
Although... There had been that other senshi – the one he'd mentally dubbed scary green-haired senshi – so named due to the fact that she'd spent most of their first round trying to wipe the floor with him before Sailor Polaris had intervened and he didn't know her name.
Green-haired senshi. Green-furred cat – it would be too much of a co-incidence for them to be one and the same. Fate couldn't be that cruel. Could it?
But she hadn't tried to pounce on him again since the rude awakening and that sounded almost like a note of apology in her voice. It was too much for Athene to know what to make of it right now, so he fell back on the niceties of politeness “It's nice to get a name to match a face even if we are stuck as cats right now. I didn't get your name at the Duels of Destiny event.” The dark-eared cat decided that he could always flee later if Juno suddenly turned Duels of Destiny-type scary.

As Athene blinked and pondered and otherwise pieced together the strange coincidence, the green cat merely stood and grinned a wide feline smile, tail swishing.
"Yeah, I was more excited about competing then talking then." The statement was matter of fact, unapologetic really. She's already said sorry once right? No point in going over it again and again. The future was a far more interesting prospect then the past after all!
"But talking now is good. Sparring does not work so good as a kitty cat."
"Have you been a cat for many days?" A back paw reached up towards a slightly inclined head, scratching her neck a moment before she continued. "It is a little strange, but fun I think."

Well the talking being better than sparring was good – very good. If they were talking then the other cat wouldn't be scary and he wouldn't have to give up his comfy bench to flee. Athene wasn't into fighting – he hadn't been as a human and he certainly wasn't as a cat. He'd take talking rather than sparring any day.
“I've been a cat since before Thanksgiving. I was returning home from patrol one minute and the next I was on four paws with a stubby tail – not fun.” Athene wasn't finding being a cat particularly fun. “How about you,” he looked at Juno curiously. “Have you been stuck like this long?”

Juno thought being a cat was pretty darn awesome. Able to play all day and do whatever she wanted. No school. Magical kitty flexibility offered some super fun gymnastic feats. Really she was easy to amuse when she could run free, and as of yet she hadn't run out of the wonder of it all yet.
Of course it probably helped that she didn't miss her family anymore than usual, what with them so very far away. Maybe she'd miss Chibimoon though, if she'd stopped long enough to think about it.
"Yes, about same time as you I think. Some days. No real reason that I can think of for changing. I wonder if we all changed at the same time?" It was a minor thought, brushed away as quickly as it had been mentioned.
"I wonder when we will change back. Or if." A paw lifted towards her mouth and for a moment she seemed to nibble and scratch at the places between her paw pads.
"Have you had a mouse yet?" It had taken Juno a little while to catch her first prey, and it was probably partly fluke and luck, but she had shown no hesitation in trying the 'strange' food once she had.

“I hope we change back soon” Juno might think it fun to be a cat, but Athene did not. He didn’t want to spend the rest of his life trapped in this form, having to watch out for kitty tail-pulling kids and or mean teenagers and he missed having opposable thumbs. He couldn’t help but stare at the green cat as she asked him about having a mouse “What to eat?” There was probably a slightly horrified tone to his voice, but Athene couldn’t help himself. He was a human stuck as a cat – not a cat. To him there was a difference!

She nodded some mildly at his words. Though she wasn't in a rush yet, eventually being a cat would probably get boring. She'd miss the things she could do with hands and feet. Cats couldn't play volleyball. Going to parties probably wasn't the same. Not to mention like.. not having a bed and home and stuff. For now the fun of camping out and making the best of things was keeping her contented. But being homeless forever would take it's toll. And what if she couldn't find her friends in this form?
"Yes to eat" She stated back matter of factly, seeming either oblivious to his mortification. "It is not that much different from capybara. Less meat and more bone I guess. Which is kind of annoying, yes." She'd had the large rodent a couple of times back at home.
"What do you eat then?"

Athene wasn’t sure what a capybara was, but if it was anything like a mouse then the senshi turned cat figured that he wanted no part of it. The dark-eared cat couldn’t understand how the other cat could be so matter-of-fact about the whole thing – despite the fur they were humans not cats – rodent wasn’t supposed to be on the menu! He thought over Juno’s question about what he was eating, before saying quietly “Um bread, bits of bacon, sausage…” Thinking it over some more, he added “I got bought cupcakes once, but mostly I eat bits of bread.” The word cupcakes was spoken with enthusiasm – the cupcakes had been a real highlight, even if it had taken a good while to clean the last traces of frosting off.

It was something like a rat. A rat that swam.. and was the size of a wild pig. But Juno didn't bother to think that people wouldn't know things about her native land, so she didn't bother trying to explain.
"Cupcakes are alright" She answered thoughtfully. Sweets weren't always her thing, but cupcakes were kind of neat because they were easy to grab and go and because they came in so many different kinds.
"Bacon and sausage though. That sounds yum." Her whiskers twitched and her tongue licked her maw at the thought. She hadn't been particularly hungry before, but now that they were talking about it... "I would love piles of spaghetti right now."
Maybe they should even go get food now. She was sure she could find something good to eat in a dumpster behind a food place. They could even mix and match if they went to the main streets with many resteraunts.
Unfortunately the other cat didn't seem as excited about the prospect of trash food.
"Your loss." The green cat mused, lingering only a few minutes longer before finally making her way off to find dinner. What surprises would be in store for her today.

Athene rather thought that cupcakes were a bit more than just ‘all right’, but then again he had a not so secret sweet tooth - well at least not so secret to those who knew him as Arian. Juno’s mentioned pile of spaghetti did sound good however. It was probably just as well that she hadn’t suggested ‘dumpster meal finding’ as a thing given that Athene’s response would have been as horrified as it had been to her query about whether he had eaten a mouse. Her talk of food was making him feel hungry though. It seemed however that their conversation, however brief was over though as the other senshi turned cat hopped off the bench. “I guess I’ll see you around maybe” he called as she lingered for a moment before turning and padding off. For his part Athene stood and stretched for a moment before padding off, albeit in a different direction. Perhaps if he was lucky then the lady at the cupcake place who liked cats would be around and have some bread that he could munch on. Iris_virus quick Athene fin :3 for this
