T. Sublime: Kama is cared for by a young man named T. Sublime. (Tea or Lime for short.) Tea purchased Kama's lantern from a stall late one night after reading an old wives tale. If you hang a red lantern and a dozen red roses on your back porch, love is sure to come your way! Well, Tea found love, alright! Just not the kind he was expecting. Now he has a lovely young Kama to care for, and plenty of adventures on the way!

Tea and Kama live in a small house next to a public park! The landlady is a sweet older woman who feels the need to bring Tea dinner on Sundays, since he doesn't have a woman in the house. ^^; There is only one spare bedroom, which he has tried his best to make comfortable for Kama. Richly colored blankets are hung like tapestries to cover the walls, and he always keeps fresh flowers in a vase upon the window ledge.

Though they've only known each other a short while, Tea has already learned a few of Kama's likes! Rich colors, gentle words, and fragrant smells are all well accepted by the young soul! Flowers also seem to go a long way. More than anything, Kama seems to find beauty in unique people and objects.

From what Tea gathers, Kama doesn't like bad smells, poor excuses, or...math. Don't worry, Tea doesn't understand either.

So far, Kama's only gift has been a decorated room and a fresh bouquet of flowers from the farmer's market. Tea has also given him his old baby blanket, which is patterned with faded bugs and butterflies.

February 15thDear Journal~ What a sad day today was! It can be so heartbreaking to see all the couples, hand in hand, when there is no one to call my own! Then again, after about the fifth public make out session I've had to watch and my third box of cheap chocolate I've choked down, I suppose it's not that bad. After all, I have my time to myself, I get to save my money, and no one gets mad at me for sleeping with socks on! That's worth it, right? Nope. Can't even lie on paper. Anyway, I was feeling bad for myself, so I decided to do something special. I'd never try one of those weird dating services, and I don't much believe in luck, so I'm going to try the old wives tale my Landlady shared with me. By shared, I mean 'kept dropping hints about until I told her I got the picture.' She's sweet, but she seems to think I'm not complete without love in my life! Maybe she's right...but if she keeps making me such delicious pity dinners, it might just be worth it. So I went and picked up a dozen roses, just like she said. Of couse, when the lady behind the counter asked who to make the card out to, I had to admit they were just for me. Who buys themselves a dozen roses?! Sheesh. The lantern was a bit harder to find. I don't know why it has to be a red lantern...probably for the same reason it has to be red roses. Luckily, there was a stall open late near the farmer's market. A very odd fellow was running it, and actually had some very lovely lanterns. I found just the one I wanted, but he insisted on telling be about it before he'd let me buy it. I'm not sure what he was trying to say...something spiritual or some such? I don't put much stock in religion, but whatever works for him is great. Apparently I was saying it wrong as well...it's 'lanturn' not 'lantern.' I suppose I should write it here before I forget...he said his name was Bumby! So all have to do is hang the lantern and the roses upon my back porch, and love will come my way! I have a sneaking suspicion that a cheap lout looking for free flowers is what will actually come my way, but I suppose we'll see in the morning. Here's hoping I don't break a leg out in the dark! At least the lantern lanturn has a rich and lovely glow. T.

Kama and Tea...Yawning widely, Tea flopped over in bed, pulling his pillow over his mussed green hair. It wasn't bright, in fact the sun was still rising, but it was getting closer to spring and the birds felt the need to remind everyone of such. In a rising chorus, they tweeted and chirped outside his window, fluttering about upon the ledge in a most endearing (and annoying) way. Groaning, Tea finally sat up and ran his fingers through his hair. "Okay! All right! I'm up!" Yawning as he spoke, he covered his mouth with the crook of his elbow and swung out of bed. Boxers and socks made for lovely pajamas when one lived alone. Trudging to the kitchen, still half asleep, Tea totally missed the pair of hopefull eyes peering just over the ledge of his back window and put some water on to boil. Flopping down on the couch, he also missed the quiet knock at the back door. It wasn't until he'd flipped through the channels, sighing at the fact that nothing good was ever on in the mornings, that he remembered his lantern from the night before. "Oh! Oh no! Aww, those birds! If they made a nest in it, I'll..." Jumping up from the couch and yanking open the back door, Tea flinched as the birds took flight all at once in a clash of squeaks and flaps. Not everything on the porch ran, however. It took him a moment to realize it, but Tea was staring at a child...or at least what looked like a child. Of course, children usually wore more clothing. At that thought, Tea took a step back. On the porch, half naked, with a kid in the buff suddenly seemed like a bad place to be. "What...who?"At his words, the boy smiled. At least, Tea assumed it was a boy. All of his assumptions suddenly disappeared as the child fluttered towards him. Fluttered! Two dark and perfect butterfly wings seemed to lift the lad into the air as though he weighed less than a feather. "Who?" The word was soft, gently spoken...a simple reiteration of Tea's exclaimation. Tea stared. A fairy. It had to be! But...weren't fairies little? Taking a step back, then another, he put up his hands in a 'harmless' gesture. "I, uh....greetings! Erm, well met?" What did one say to a fairy?! Apaprently you didn't have to say much. Still drifting forward, the boy followed Tea in...the door shutting naturally after them. In the relative quiet of his house, he could barely hear the flutter of the delicate wings. "Well met."Abruptly, Tea plopped down upon his couch. He'd backed up as far as he could...there was no where else to go! Hesitantly, he lifted one hand...unsure whether to offer a shake or a wave. The boy leaned forward to peer at his hand with slight interest, a bit of dark hair sliding across his eyes. "I'm...Tea. Or Lime. Whatever you like. And you...?" the child simply glanced up at him, eyes untroubled by such curiosities as a name. Tea tried again, hoping to prompt the boy to speak. "You are..." All at once, it hit him. The fairy child never had to speak, the truth washed over Tea like a shock of icy water as soon as he saw the lantern dangling from the child's hand. "You are...love!" The old tale! But...this wasn't what he'd expected!! At that, the child lit up, wings spreading as he spun. A dark ribbon curled around him, shifting to provide the minimum cover necessary as though moved by magic. With a light and uplifting laugh, the boy ended his spin, head tilted to one side. "Eeeeee."Still frozen with shock, Tea just kept staring. "Eeeee? Is that...your name?"Apparently not. The petite being shook his head, reaching up to tuck a strand of dark hair behind his little ear. "EeeeEEEEE?" It was an odd noise, almost like... "Ack! The kettle!!" Getting up in a hurry, Tea stumbled for the kitchen and switched off the stove just as the kettle rose to a shriek. Gasping for breath, hand still on the oven knob, he turned to gaze once more at the strange child in the center of his living room. He'd half expected the boy to disappear once he'd turned his back. "Thanks. Thank you, but...I can't call you 'you'! Let's figure out your name, and then..." Trailing off, Tea chuckled wryly and scrubbed his hand through his short hair once more. "Then I'll get dressed and we can have a cup of tea before we figure the rest out. How does that sound?"With a nod, the boy agreed, and just like that Kama was home.

Raindrops and Roses...By the second day, Tea had settled remarkably into his new life. The child was here to stay, it seemed, disappearing every now and again, but usually wandering quietly about the house. After an evening pouring over books, they'd even settled on a name. "Kama! Would you like some breakfast?" Tea called out across the house, toward the living room where he'd seen the boy last. A brush of air against his neck made him shiver, and Tea spun suddenly. There was Kama, right behind him, where only an empty corner had been before! Was he really that unobservant? Hoping his heart stopped beating so fast soon, Tea smiled and pointed to the plates on the table. Slightly burned post-frozen waffles, and steaming mugs of tea. Lime rubbed his nose in a slightly embarrassed gesture. "Out of syrup. And butter."Apparently that was okay. With a smile, Kama bent to sniff the waffle, then leaned forward to take a 'breath' of the tea. The steam of the tea seemed to please the boy, and he looked up at his caretaker with wide crimson eyes. "This?""Oh! That is, um..." Pausing to check the box, Tea rattled around the last few packets within. "Ah! Rose hips and chamomile. I thought you might like it." Kama nodded, as though he understood exactly, and took another breath of the sweet steam. Tea noticed he never actually touched his food, though. Kama never touched much of anything. As the silence stretched, Tea munched. He was sitting sideways in his chair with a mug in one hand and a soggy, burned waffle in the other. At least he'd found proper set of pajamas, faded green flannels with only a single hole in the armpit! "I was thinking of going out today, and buying you a few things. You know, for the room."Kama turned to gaze toward the room that had been offered to him. It was smallish, but the window was large...he could watch the people in the park across the street! "I'll go."Tea winced, setting down his floppy waffle. "Well, I'd like that, but...you're not wearing much in the way of clothes. Don't you think people would...you know...ask questions?"Without speaking, Kama turned his head and gazed back out the window. For a moment Tea thought he was mad, until he realized Kama was watching something in particular. Leaning forward, he stared out the window as well, and found himself watching an old man wearing no shirt, strolling around the farmer's market that was held most mornings in the park, and a child with no bottoms on that was running gleefully from the parent that had been trying to change the toddler's diaper. Tea laughed and sat back down with a shrug. "Fine, but if they take you away, you have to escape and flutter right back home. Okay?"With a simple smile, Kama nodded. He rather liked the idea of having a home, even if there were half a dozen empty pizza boxes next to the fridge. A few minutes later, Tea had finished eating and had thrown on some clothes. A speckled green shirt, dark slacks, and as always his shades. Kama was ready as well, it seemed, his little red lanturn dangled like a purse over one arm. With the dark sash and the bright lanturn, it almost looked like the boy wanted to trick or treat! It wasn't a long stroll for them, just across the street, but Tea had to insist that Kama at least try to pretend to walk. A mostly naked child was bad enough, he didn't need to be answering questions about fairies as well. The noise of the market swelled around them as they approached, the smell of roasting corn, fresh flowers, and sweet organic honey high in the air. Tea was surprised that no one commented on Kama...in fact, it seemed like most people didn't even see him! A few people did, though, like the old man wandering around the park with no shirt, enjoying the feel of the rare early spring sun on his back. He lifted a single hand in a distant and respectful wave, a gesture Kama repeated without missing a beat. "Well, this isn't so bad! We'll get a few things here, then go shopping for more permanent stuff tomorrow, okay?"Kama didn't answer. The boy had stopped, and was staring down the row of stalls and booths. Before Tea could even open his mouth to object, Kama was off...darting into the crowd. Cont...

Raindrops and Roses...cont
"KAMA! HEY!" Ignoring the way people looked at him for yelling, Tea pushed forward...but the crowd didn't seem to part for him like it did for the boy. By the time he'd pushed his way to the row, he'd figured it was too late. Had Kama been kidnapped? Picked up by the police?
No, Kama was fine. He was a good distance away, but fine. Squinting, Tea tried to watch. He realized that from a length, Kama actually looked like he was clothed! The dark sash, and the red markings upon his arms and legs surely must have been patterns of cloth.
Kama had paused, staring up at the back of a woman that was choosing between homemade jams. Tea watched from the end of the row as Kama turned, and gazed instead at the back of a man who was selecting a loaf of fresh baked bread across the way. Raising one little hand, Kama tapped the girl's arm and took a step back.
The woman turned to see who'd tapped her just as the man spun away from the booth. They collided right where Kama had been a moment before, both jam and bread falling to the grass. Tea watched in shock as they knelt to pick up their purchases, the young woman's cheeks going pink as she met the man's eyes. From where he stood, Tea couldn't make out their words...but they seemed to be happy words, rather than apologies or excuses. As they stood again, gently shaking hands and heading off toward a tree the young man motioned towards, Tea realized Kama was no where to be seen.
"Kama! KAMA!"
"I like these." Tea almost jumped out of his skin at the gentle voice, right beside him. There was Kama, looking at bouquets of fresh flowers in bright white buckets!!
"You scared me! Hey, what was that? Did you know-" Lime hushed at a look from Kama, a plain look that clearly said 'we can talk about it later.' Falling silent, and a touch embarrassed at being reprimanded by a kid, Tea knelt beside the boy and looked at the flowers as well.
"You, uh...like these, huh? Which ones?" Watching Kama's finger rise to point at a bunch of mixed roses, Tea nodded and stood. The vendor was already watching, sparing a smile for both of them.
"So, did you find something you'd like?"
"Some of your mixed roses. These ones, please." Tea motioned, but the man seemed to already know which he meant.
"Ooh, you have a good eye! My wife grows these. We planted the bush of royals, these red ones here, for our wedding! Boy, that was a few years ago, I tell you." The man chuckled at his own story, and Kama seemed enraptured as well, listening with a smile at the recollection. "Well, here you go...that will be fifteen, please!"
Without groaning about the price, Tea dug out the money...offering it to the man with half a smile as he accepted the roses. They weren't all standard roses, either...some were the little wild ones with fewer petals and a sweeter scent, green tendrils of vine spiraling down the stems.
"Do you...have a vase?" The man's voice was a gentle question, as though he knew that Tea owned no such thing. With another chuckle, the roses vendor dug around in the boxes behind his booth and finally stood up holding a large glass vase. "It's nothing special, but it'll do! Better than a milk jug, anyway. Enjoy!"
Home was only a few paces away. Once they arrived, Tea paused on the front porch, staring out across the park. Sure enough, there under the tree, the two young people sat sharing bread and jam. He watched as the girl scooted a bit closer to the young man under the shelter of the leaves, right as the first few raindrops began to fall. They sure looked happy!
Closing the door behind them, Tea filled up the vase with water and set it on the ledge of the window in Kama's room. "There you go! They look nice, I guess this place does need a little more color. But, I have to ask. Did you...did you do that on purpose?"
Kama looked slightly confused, and leaned forward to smell the flowers without answering. Tea pointed again, at the couple now snuggling under the canopy of the distant tree in the park. They could see it perfectly out of Kama's bedroom window! "Them! It was like..."
Tea trailed off. There was no way to explain it! But then, perhaps that was what love was. Undefinable, mysterious. The longer he stayed silent, the deeper Kama seemed to smile. Finally, the boy lifted his gaze from the flowers and nodded at Tea. "Thank you."
"For what? Oh, the flowers! Sure, anytime. Do you think...you could do that for me? Someday? I mean, it's not like I'm lonely or anything, but..." Lime trailed off as he realized Kama was laughing. Actually laughing! Shocked at the soft sound, Tea just watched as Kama floated up to pat him gently on the cheek.
"Maybe." Kama was still smiling as he drifted over to the window once again, hanging his lanturn high in the same window as the flowers. The sunlight poured through it, casting lovely red shadows into the room and across the boy's pale skin. Still hovering, little wings fluttering to keep him afloat, Kama twisted to smile over his shoulder once again at Tea.
This wasn't a bad home. Not at all!
