Over at Sandar Lakes, the azrein watched over a field of clovers. He seemed to be looking for something, but what? He remembered a voice calling him.

Ahadzen....Ahadzen. Where are you? the voice whispered as he closed his eyes while the cool lake breeze swept through his mane.

"Who are you?!" he shouted later realizing that if a nearby azrein saw would be thinking that he had gone mad. The voice entered his mind again.

Ahadzen...Ahadzen... the voice went again.

Unable to take it anymore, the brown kirin ran into the field of clovers and started kicking the clovers into the air. "Arrrggghhhh...!!!"

User ImageAn orange mass had curled in the field of clovers seemingly sleeping. Steady breathing could be seen if one looked close enough at the black and orange red striped form. Ears, however, flicked to and fro even as the little azrein slept.

However, sleep would not last long as she heard a voice call out in anger. Immediately a head popped up from its curled position, feathers up at the top flicking back into standing position. The orange red eyes of the mare scanned the area around her until her eyes fell on a brown equine form that didn't exactly look like the others. Her head tilted in slight curiosity before she stood up and stretched. Pheonix watched the stallion rampage for a while before giving a snort. "Kicking flora won't help. I assure you." The mare spoke calmly keeping her distance, but her eyes remained vigil.

The azrein watched as the clovers showered over his head until he heard the orange azrein. Giving a look of fury at the mare he snorted. "I didn't mean to harm your little flowers, but don't you hear a whispering noise?" he asked. "It keeps repeating my name." He shook his head. "Don't say that I'm crazy because I am not."

"This is the perfect opportunity to get to know others too." he thought. Slowly approaching the mare cautiously, he said, "Name's Ahadzen. What's yours?"

The mare gave a scoff as she stood in a neutral manner. "The plants here mean nothing to me. I simply state that it probably wouldn't help your mood." Pheonix was a little calculating in most of her assessments of those she met. It made her appear unnatural at times as well as emotionless.

At the question, she stopped to listen, flicking her ears to and fro before returning her gaze to the stallion. "Nope. I hear nothing. Perhaps you are remembering an old memory?" She then snorted quite annoyed. "Crazy is simply a state of mind. IT is just my place to pass judgment unless judgment is passed upon me." Her tail flicked causing her feathers to shake and rustle rhythmically. When he came closer, she tilted her head again before peaking forward to get a better look at his frame. The stallion had scales and what appeared to be a branch for a horn. His tail was more feline in appearance with a furry tuft on the end. Her eyes then looked into his with a bit of a grunt. "Fascinating. You seem to be like me and yet you are not. It's quite interesting really."

At the question, she gave a respectful bow returning the greeting. "I am named Pheonix, Ahadzen." She gave another nod before looking around the field. "What does this voice sound like? Is there any clue as to why it would only call to you?" Pheonix may appear as if she were helpful, but in all actuality, she was really inquisitive. She wanted to learn about things as much as possible, even at the expense of others.

He felt odd when Pheonix was observing him, as if he was some sort of bug being watched over. Thinking for a moment, Ahadzen gazed up into the sky. "Maybe its from a memory. One that seems clear but not to at the same time. Has that ever happened to you Pheonix?" He then looked back at her.

"Yes, my mother's told me that most of us are the same but look differnt and that's what makes us all special."

The voice came again. Ahadzen, stay away from this "friend" of yours. You are to friendless your entire life and you can never change that.

The stallion's eyes darkened. "The voice.. it came again Pheonix. It sounds like a mare that I can't recall that just told me that I am to be friendless. What do you think that means?"

Pheonix gave a grunt giving the stallion back his space. She was done with her visible observation in any case. At the question, she had to take a breath coming to terms with herself. "All the time." The mare quietly said looking down at particularly nothing. Her past lives flashed through her mind in a cloud haze and in each one she answered to someone. Always the ever humble servant.

"Mother?" Pheonix gave a bit of a snort as she mulled the word over in her mind. She knew what it meant, but she didn't actually know what it really meant to have one. It was one of the reasons why she was set apart from the others so much it seemed. Her reasoning for telling her child such a strange thing was odd to her, but Pheonix had no room to speak about oddities.

His whole demeanor changed so suddenly, she barely caught it. It was only when he spoke did he confirm her suspicions. The mare watched him carefully while analyzing her thought process, brow furrowed in thought. "This...voice of yours. This mare...was she a friend of yours? Or was she someone that was jealous of you in your past? Someone who harbored a deep anger?" At his question, she snorted giving him a mild mannered look. "It only means something if you believe it. Sometimes if you just ignore him, the bully will go away."

"Yes, my mother." he spoke gently. "She was always there for me and taught me to never give up and fight for what I believe in." he laughed. "It seems like she's the only one who actually understood me before she was taken away.."

"I don't believe I clearly remember this mare. The only recent one I met was you. The only others were those of my herd before which was just my mother and two aunts. Hmm..your advice does make sense." he seemed to be learning alot about himself and how others thought while talking to the mare. "Maybe I should just forget about it" giving out a small chuckle. "It's probably just my imagination running wild as usual."

The stallion talked so fondly of his parent that Pheonix almost got lost in translation. It was strange for her hearing about how others talked about each other. Frankly it annoyed her and made her jealous all at the same time. Did she ever talk of her master like that and he of her? So many unanswered questions left the mare slightly irritable. "Taken away? Do you mean she died?" Pheonix asked quite bluntly in a curious fashion, eyes looking into his eyes and face as if for clues.

As he thought and mulled over about the voice, it was clear that there would be no easy answer for the two to rely back on. Her ears flicked back and then forward wondering if this was all some sort of game that Ahadzen thought of. But she had to remember the look on his face earlier and his pure anger. No one could act that out well enough like he did. "Of course it makes sense." Pheonix snorted with affirmation. "But it doesn't always work." The disclaimer was put in more for her benefit than for his in all actuality. She didn't want to be blamed in case the voices came back. "I think you should still seek caution. Especially if it happens again. You going berserk like earlier could have gotten you or someone else in a bad predicament." Her tail flicked behind her and her nostrils flared as she eyed him ever more carefully. "I suppose you feel better then?" She asked suddenly quite interested in how his mind was now. Pheonix wondered if all this took a toll on his psyche.

"I'm not sure but I remember one of my aunts telling me that she was taken away. I thought she'd always return back to me for I was still a yearling, but never did she come back." He looked down at the field. "So I presume you're right about her being dead, but some feeling always tells me that she's alive somewhere too."

Blinking, he nodded looking into Pheonix's eyes. "I'm better for now. Maybe I just needed someone to talk to."

Pheonix gave a brief nod toward the stallion as if understanding what he meant. "I understand. Maybe she is out there looking for you, too." The mare flicked her ears as she looked up toward the sky. She didn't know why she said that, but for some reasons he hoped that it would further give the stallion hope as well. "I'm sure you'll find her eventually. You still have your aunts don't you?"

His gaze felt a little heavy as their eyes met. She began to wonder what he was thinking in that mind of his. "Well you did indeed speak to me." Pheonix affirmed giving a brief grunt looking over the horizon before bringing her eyes back to his. "I suppose you'll be on your way then?

"Thank you for your help Pheonix." he bowed his head in respect. "Yes, I'll be travelling across the lands hopefully finding my herd from before. Again, I'm sorry for disturbing you today." He flickered his tail and looked at the scenery deciding where to head off to.

The mare tilted her head in slight confusion wondering what she had done to earn such high respect from this stallion. But she seemed to be glad that he was at least thankful for her help - whatever kind it was. "Well ahh..." She stopped as if trying to process the words. She hadn't really been doing anything when he tore through the fields and it was actually a little of a bit of a breather to be acknowledged for once.

"I can come with you. In case you know...the voice." Pheonix tilted her head in question flicking her tail, feathers rustling as she did so. "That is, if you don't mind my company....what is your herd like?" In all honesty, Pheonix was quite interested in the hierarchical structures of herds and azrein in groups and society. Being alone wasn't always fun for her, and she saw an opportunity to learn more about what she became - even if Ahadzen wasn't exactly like her. "What...kind are you? You're not like me and yet you are...I'm a little confused" The question came out without much of a thought as she gave a bit of a snort trotting up to his side as if to get a better look. Pheonix was small for a mare so she had to crane her neck up to get a good look at his face. In size comparison and standing beside him, the mare's highest feather on her head would be next to his ear, her head level with his upper neck right under his chin.

He laughed a little. "I was wondering when you would have asked. I'm a kirin, a breed known for our horns, scales, and odd looking tail. Now your feathers, what kind are you? I've seen many but none like you." To him it seemed like a kind gesture that the mare would accompany him, but he was a little unsure whether it would be wise. Then again he remembered the feeling of abandonment when wandering alone, maybe Pheonix felt the same too.

"Of course you may come too, though I don't know where we'll be travelling to nor what dangers we'd might encounter. And my herd? Hmm.. I rarely remember but I do remember that there was a lead stallion and mare where they were the ones who ruled the herd. Then there were regulars like me who were just part of the herd... Sorry that I couldn't really tell you more." he spoke.

"Kirin. Hrm." Pheonix put that away in her mental list of things to ask and research later on. Her tail flicked behind her idly, feathers shifting and rustling as she did so. At his question, she tilted her head looking at him. "I was a bird in my last form. I suppose those traits carried over. Anything else, I say that I am azrein but not." Pheonix only partly remembered how she was before she woke up here...as a horse-thing. She knew that she was capable of speech, however, as well as telepathy and other sorts of things. It also gladdened her to realize that her pendant stayed with her. She'd be a little lost without it. And her master would more than likely scold her for losing such an important thing.

"No one knows where they go most of the time. You just know what you want to see." She commented giving a bit of a snort. As he spoke of his herd, her mind became full of even more questions. "Hrmm...leaders and regulars...leaders male and female...is everyone in your herd a kirin like you?" Pheonix trotted to his other side getting a better look at his features and face. Her eyes mirrored concentration as if she was putting him to her memory.

He was confused. "A bird but an azrein? What do you mean by your last form?" This was the first time he's ever heard of such of a thing. Just hearing this made him feel like questioning what might happen to him after he passed away - would he turn into a bird? "Hmm... it explains the feathers." For some reason just wondering about it made him stare at the feathers more and more.

Shaking his head he spoke. "Not all of us were kirins. Some were just regular built without any special features. But those with more distingushed features were more respected and a bit higher ranked than the others. Seems like a burden to not have anything special on you." Placing his eyes right on the pendant on Pheonix, the shine gleamed into his eyes. "Something like that would place you higher than most too, for I can't recall any in my herd having any neckwear."
