Kainda had conceived the night that she and her lifemate, Dark Tide, made their mating vows. It was an interesting night for her for she had never been with a male before. However, after some weeks, her belly began to grow and her moods were slowly changing. She found herself not being as aggressive and actually quite quiet. The mare had also quit her training in fear that it would hurt the unborn foals now within her womb. Kainda was with the herd for as long as Tide was there, and whenever he wasnt she went back to their little glade next to his pond.
So there she was now as Dark Tide was scouting the land for his herd. But Kainda wasn't alone. She had labored and given birth to two beautiful foals - a boy and a girl. Kainda felt somewhat defeated, however, as her mate's brother's mate's had four children each. She felt as though maybe her body wasn't up to being a mother. On the other hand she was glad that they at least had one of each. It was something that Dark Tide had spoken to her about frequently. She found it strange how the children were exact opposites of each other and their parents. The colt looked more like her whereas the filly like her father. Kainda wondered if they would mirror their parents' personalities as well.
She gave a gentle sigh making sure her children were comfortable before getting up to get a small drink of water. Kainda was terribly thirsty and the labor had been intense for her. Sweat still beaded her brow and body. The mare grunted getting her fill of water before returning to the foals' side. She kept them close by, hair seeming to blanket the two of them as she kept watch out for their father. Kainda didn't exactly get a chance to let him know where she was. She only hoped he'd be able to find them.

Tide loped over the land, racing the wind. He was eager to return to his little glade. His patrol was done and he rushed back to his mate. Her pregnancy had progressed so that sleep was difficult for her. Tide liked to be with her as much as possible so he could protect his family while she slept. That way she didn't have to worry about intruders happening upon her in her vulnerable state.
He slowed as he approached the vale and his pond. He saw Kainda lying on the ground. She looked rather exhausted but happy nonetheless. As the stallion got closer he noticed that there were two lumps underneath his mane. He thought that rather odd.
"Kainda? How are you feeling?" he asked with concern in his voice. He came closer and poked his black nose under the dark blue of her mane. The falling strands revealed an orange blanket...with lighter spots that resembled his white markings. He checked the other side and found a black blanket with white stripes.
"Kainda did you....are these.... do you know their genders?" He asked quietly. Questions tumbled out of his mouth in a broken but quick succession. He was in awe, shock and was incredibly happy. Foals! He had foals! Tide flopped down and went nose to nose with the orange foal. It must have looked odd. A giant black stallion flattened and stretched out and across from him a small foal, whose nose wriggled at the presence of his father.
"They are so small....so delicate looking... I don't want to squish one." He shuffled over to the black blanket on his knees and inspected her in much the same manner as he had inspected their son.
"Kainda...."

Kainda had indeed looked tired for it took all of her strength not to fall asleep with their newborns. However, as she heard the loping strides of her mate, she couldn't help but chuckle a little eager for his return. Dark Tide had indeed been so much help during the nights when she couldn't sleep. Worry wracked at her mind constantly, but he was there to battle them away with ease and comfort.
He was there in a flash it seemed, and her eyes had to readjust to see him. It gladdened her heart that he had indeed finally come back to their little come. She saw his face and couldn't help but laugh at his inquisitive glance. Poor Dark Tide. He got confused so easily sometimes. "I'm fine, my love." The mare cooed. She watched him poke and prod their children with a tenderness she had never known.
"Yes. Yes. And yes." Kainda laughed all the same. "These are your children, Dark Tide. The little orange one is our son. And the other is our daughter. Strange how they mirror us, isn't is?" The mare nipped at each of her foals as they squirmed under their blankets. The sensed a familiar scent - their father - and grew excited. The filly poked her nose out and snorted over toward her father as if wanting attention. Kainda caught sight and couldn't help but laugh. "I'm sure she'll cling to you, my heart." The mare made sure to tuck in their blankets around them in an effort to keep them warm.
Dark Tide was indeed a sight to behold as he sprawled himself out in front of his son. It made her giggle all the same rolling her eyes a little. Kainda knew Tide would be quite the character once their children were born, but this might be more than she bargained for. She'd probably die of laughter by the time they were able to walk. "Yes, but they are strong. They feed with a ravenous hunger - good appetites. I have to keep wrangling this one to keep still." Her nose gently nudged her daughter as if to reiterate as the foal tried yet again to wiggle free from her blanket. "I wanted to keep from naming them until you got here...I wanted to do this together..y'know?"
Kainda gazed into his eyes as he whispered her name. It seemed as though he as still speechless much as she was. They were truly a gift, and Kainda wanted to desperately be a proper parent. There was nothing in the world that would tear her away from her family now. The mare leaned over and brushed the bangs from her mate's face before licking his nose. "Yes, Dark Tide?"

"...thank you." he said his emotions were strangling his wind pipe and attacking the center in his brain that formed words.
"Shall we start naming? Any ideas?" Tide asked as he rearranged the foals beside each other to get a better look. "You know it is odd how their markings turned out... its intriguing really." he brushed his nose over his daughters stripes and then over his sons sunspots. "Hmmm sunspots..."
Tide's brow furrowed. "Kainda...Kai... Sun..." the stallion mused. "Well he is not gonna be a Dark Kai.. I remember how you liked that name. I'm sorry about that. But perhaps you could mix them in there somewhere?" He nibbled on his sons blanket and was greeted with a snort. He grinned. "Feisty little fellow, just like your mother."
Tide swung his head over to his daughter. "And you my princess, father would be so proud of your boldly dark markings, of course the old man is obbsessed with color. Mother is much more free of mind."

Her head tilted in thought at the question. She looked down at her children giving them gentle nudges on the forehead. The mare nodded giving a gentle sigh. "I'm just a little upset that I couldn't birth more for you...I know your brothers had four each..." Kainda made sure to curl tighter around her two letting them know that she was indeed happy to have them. It would only mean that they would need to look out for each other even more.
As he thought out loud, she began to think of her own name for their children. She nosed the little boy gently as he gave a snort sneeze at his father. Kainda chuckled a little. Her mind popped as he mumbled a few words together that piqued her interest. "Kai Darksun?" The mare looked over to her mate for an opinion on the name. It sounded strong, had both of their names to it, and of course held 'dark' in it somewhere much like his family title. She liked it enough herself.
Kainda looked over at their very inquisitive filly as she wriggled her body in mad excitement. She reminded Kainda much like the weather that one could never tell how it was going to be. She tilted her head a moment looking down at her. "I'm sure your parents would be there if they could, darling." Kainda nudged Tide's cheek with her snout. "What about Dark Tempest for the filly? I'm sure she'll grow into it..she's already a bundle of unrelenting energy it seems." The mare snorted as the striped black blanket began to wiggle and snort poking her nose around in an attempt to find her brother

"Kainda, your foals mean more to me then if Ion or Hellfyre had sixteen." He walked up to Kianda and licked her right upside the head. "Besides our foals will rule."
Tide perked up at her name. "Yes that, exactly. Its perfect." He nosed the orange foal who he swore grumbled at him. This made him grin. He wished he could have helped Kainda more with the birthing but in reality he probably would have freaked out.
"And the female?" he asked. His eyes softened at her nudge.
"I think that is a beautiful name." He grinned. "Well that was easy. You are good at this."
The orange blanket grunted and answered his sisters wriggling until Tide got tired of watching them struggle. He picked up the colt and places him beside his mother. Then he scooped up the girl and placed her next to him. They crooned at each other and he snorted. These two would be very close. And it warmed his heart. He lay down beside his daughter and sandwhiched the foals in between he and his love. He sighed with contentment and stretched his nose out to caress Kainda.

Blinked as she was suddenly violated by his tongue. The mare blushed a little but looked him at him with an annoyed glare. Her nostrils flared before she snorted at him. She was about to protest until he calmed her. Well...all right." The mare huffed, but she was still smiling at the thought of her foals being better than the others. It would definitely make her swell with pride.
Kainda smiled as she nosed her sun. He was responding well his father which gladdened the mare's heart. She was indeed fearful that if Tide were not there when the foals were born, they would reject him as a parent. But they were smart enough to know their parents. That was always one plus. It was also a shock that the names came easy to the mare. It was as if their children named themselves. "I guess...they mostly did it." Kainda nudged her son and daughter receiving a grunt from Dark Tempest. The filly continued to maneuver within her blanket to find her brother. However as she was lifted into the air, Tempest squealed with a bit of fear until she was placed down next to her brother. She immediately snuggled closer to his form snorting and huffing as if saying very bad things about daddy being so mean to her. It was only when Tide lay down beside the foal that she quickly changed her mind and snuggled closer to her father taking in his scent.
Kainda kept her son close to her frame in order to warm him. Her belly had indeed gotten bigger, but she would make sure it would be gone over time. She had to get back in fighting shape for she had two more reasons to live now. She tucked Kai's blanket underneath his form more curling her body closer to him. She lifted her head in time to feel Tide's warming touch. She closed her eyes brushing her nose against his giving gentle whickers of content. Kainda then yawned feeling a little tired, the adrenaline from this morning's labor finally gone. But she didn't want to go to sleep. Not just yet. "When should you bring them home?"

"When they stop complaining so much when I pick them up?" He asked with a smile on his face. His daughter was gonna be a handful and he loved it.
Kai slithered closer to his mother. She was warm and she had been there back when the world got cold and noisy and when his sister had nudged him. The foal snorted as if to say "There". Tide grinned. Cheeky little fellow that one. He shivered all over with pride and shook his mane. He had children! He and Kainda had children! After so many midnight trysts after he had come back from patrol, it was about time. Oh how he loved her. Nothing was ever gonna stop him from being with her. Not the six, not the King , not the tide itself. He was home and his children were safe and sound and whole. Tide wiggled closer to Kainda and closed the gap in his family. He snorted with approval, not unlike his son.

Kainda chuckled at her baby girl who seemed to dislike being violated by the lack of ground underneath her hooves. She rolled her eyes a little before nipping at her son's ear. He certainly was bossy even before he could speak and see. "Be nice to her, Tide. She's just a baby."
Just a baby indeed! How could Father be so mean? The filly snorted her protests though she had no qualms snuggling herself closer to the stallion for warmth. He smelled familiar and though Kai would obvious hog Mother, it made Tempest feel better that she had both her parents. She gave a whinny over to Kai as if warning him to share.
As if sensing her baby girl's distress, Kainda leaned over and nudged her nose gently settling her blanket around her. The mare gave a stretch for a moment before righting herself again. She tried not to disturb little Kai too much as he made himself comfortable. Kainda looked over at her mate who seemed to be in another world at the moment. "Dark Tide?" Her head tilted as he came closer to her without suffocating their young. "Oh don't you be needy too! These foals are already a handful!"

"I was being nice, she wanted to be beside her brother." the black and white stallion looked a little hurt at the comment but smiled at his daughter as she snorted at him.
'I am not needy," he whined, "I am supportive and there was a gap in our family AND I WILL HAVE NO GAPS." he whispered fiercely to her then smiled and licked her face again. He loved the expression on her face when he did that.
Kai "Oomfed" when his sister was shoved against him and he grumbled a little bit but he was happy overall. Mommy was here, Tempest was there and Daddy was very close. At least he thought he was close. He had almost voiced a full panicked whinny when Tide spoke again cutting the colt off mid..sentence.
"Kainda I can't even explain how happy I am right now. Our children are so perfect...if a little vocal." He glanced at his son who had seemed to overeact at absolutely nothing.

Kainda gave her mate a look as he protested, but she didn't press anymore. This would be a strange time for the both of them as they learned to be parents. She nudged Kai's cheek gently as if soothing him. The foal was jittery it seemed...she'd have to knock that out of him.
Tide's lick caught her off guard as she immediately made a face. She grinned and nipped at his nose in revenge. She shook her head looking down toward their children as the two were all cozy in their blankets. "I know, Tide. There won't be any gaps...we both know that." As close as the two were, it was a wonder how they could become any closer. "They're supposed to be vocal, Tide...at least, maybe personality wise." The mare blinked as she watched her son seem to jump at everything...but Tempest was just as bad it seemed.
The young filly snuggled closer to her father as he continued to speak with Mother. What on earth could they be talking about. She continued to listen as Kai wiggled and made noises. Tempest jumped as her brother suddenly let out a whinny. Tempest snorted in protest as she reached out quickly and bit at her brother's ear, blanket still over him. That would teach him to hush!

Kai grumbled as tempest bit his ear. But he did shush up. He wiggled for a little longer and then settled down for a nap.
"Hmm I wasn't there when the others foals were very small. I guess I will just have to learn." Tide looked down at his foals with warm eyes. He nuzzled Tempest. "Only bite him when he really deserves it, my daughter," he said, "I don't quite know what that was all about..."
Tide looked at the stars and thought about his family and the future.. what would become of them. Would Kai be more like his mother or his father. Would Tempest take after her Dark cousins?

Tempest was certainly about to protest her father's words, but the look from Mother soon quieted the foal. The filly pouted for a few moments but soon fell asleep too tired to really concentrate on being upset. Maybe Kai will be in a better mood when they both woke up.
Kainda made sure that her daughter knew she wasn't playing. True, she didn't expect them to get along, and true she did expect them to have spats, but it still didn't give Tempest the right to argue with her father. The mare snorted watched both foals settle into slumber.
She watched her mate as he wondered. Kainda wondered the same, but she was more inclined to take it one day at a time rather than worry for the future. She leaned over carefully and bit her mate's ear giving a gentle snort. Her eyes sparkled with a playful mischief before she too yawned and snuggled closer to her foals. "Ahh I'm tired. I'll get some sleep. Maybe if they're strong enough, we can take them to meet the family." The mare stretched herself a moment before settling down to sleep, her mane draped over her son.

Tide snorted back a quiet laugh at her pointed n**. Its significance was not lost on him. "Yes I think that would be great. Some other foals for them to pick on. I mean befriend." Tide stayed awake to watch Kainda fall asleep. "Goodnight my love," he whispered. Tide laid his head down and soon his green eyes drifted closed.
Night fell over the sleeping family in a warm safe blanket, punctuated by the odd shuffle or kick within the group.
