Multiple shades of color lit the sky as the sun started to peek over the treetops. Little critters started to make their way out of nests and burrows, setting out to get started on the new day, gathering breakfast for baby critters or preparing for the arrival of baby critters.
A blue and green brightly colored male fox sat outside of the den he shared with his mate, watching all of this. He sighed as he observed squirrels going after nuts, birds bringing bits and pieces of twigs to expand nests. It made his heart ache some watching them.
He and Mical had talked about kits of their own certainly. While Victorino did want some, he didn't know how many he wanted; and Mical was talking about 12 or 15 of them. Would Victorino be a good father to that many? He knew Mical would, but it wouldn't be fair to the other male to have him raise them all.
And having that many kits meant they had to get a new den. Which was what they were planning on looking for today, even though there was no guarantee that they would have kits anytime soon, or as many as Mical wanted.

MIcal woke up slowly, as per his usual routine. He didn't like to wake up, at all. But the cold bed was enough incentive for him to get up. His mate was up and Mical wanted to snuggle with him. Smiling at the way he clung to his young mate, Mical stood and shook out his fur. He didn't know when it happened, but he had become so dependent on him.
Not that he cared. Mical was hopelessly in love with Vic.
Walking outside the den he spotted his mate laying on the ground. "What are you doing love?" He slumped down on the ground and instantly curled into his love, laying his head on Vic's back.

Vic smiled and curled his tail around Mical, the fox who raised him, the fox who was all his, in every sense of the word. It was funny how they both had kept their feelings to each other, afraid the other would be scared off or look at them as if they were a creep simply because they had met when Vic was just a kit. But that one morning....everything had changed.
"I was watching our neighbors get started on their day. Preparing for new members of their family, making sure the ones already there are cared for." He turned his head to look at Mical. "But now that you're up and about, I'm sure there is...other activities we can do."

Mical smiled as he leaned into his mate, "I see." He watched the animals and that same yearning that tugged on his heart came back. He wanted babies. He didn't know when the urge had come about, but now that it had reared its head he couldn't think about anything else. He grinned. And it didn't hurt that it was sooo much fun trying to have a baby with his mate.
"I would very much love to....do those activities again love, but we need to go looking for new dens remember?" He leaned in and licked Vic's cheek.
"We should go while it isn't too hot."

Victorino chuckled. "Oooo. My Mical is getting pretty serious if he is turning down his favorite activities to go looking for a den." Victorino unwrapped his tail from Mical, bringing it up to caress the male's face before falling away. "A pity." With a gin Victorino gathered his paws beneath him and stood up.
"So in which direction would you like to start in today?" Victorino had no clue how long it would take them to find a den. He knew it would no doubt take more than one day. Having lived his whole life with Mical, Victorino noticed he had an eye for detail, and liked things just so. And with it being a den for them to share, it had to be something they both loved.

He laughed. It was a running joke with them that Mical's appetite was insatiable. but his mate was correct in the assumption that he was getting serious. It was important, finding a den. Now that they were together as a couple everything was different. And it felt weird living in the same den that Mical had raised Vic in. They needed a fresh environment that stood for their new relationship.
"Haha love." He chuckled as he nipped at his lover's ear. "I think we can head north, away from the mountains. It snows less there so the dens should be warmer. I don't want to have our babies freezing." He yawned, popping his neck and wiggling his shoulders to work out the kinks.

Victorino nodded. "We might also find larger areas that they could play in." Softer places truth be told. While the mountains might have large caves, Mical was right in that it would be cold. And with all those rocks, the kits could get hurt. Where as, like the area they were in, there was lots of grass and flowers.
A thought running through his head caused Vic to laugh. "Perhaps we should make sure none of the flowers around here are by the new den. Else we would never find the kits if they take after me more than you."

"Right...Kits like to play." Mical smiled, though when Vic was little he tended to be more shy and stick close to Mic. Sighing, Mical worried that he might have isolated the kit too much. He never really got to play with kits his own age. That was something that he deeply regretted.
"hm." Pulling out of his sad thought, Mical laughed. "You're right. I don't want to end up losing the babies in the flowers. I think I lost you once or twice in there." He chuckled as he remembered having to search for hours to find Vic only to find out the kit had fallen asleep in the flowers and didn't even know that Mical was looking for him.

Vic laughed. "Sure they do. Don't you remember all the times we played together?" Hide and seek, tag, racing....They could teach all those to their children when they got some. And many, many more games. Maybe even some that the kits came up with themselves.
Vic stared at Mical in disbelief, mouth open. "Y-You lost me?" He pawed at Mical's ear lightly. "Oh that is it. Definitely no flowers near the new den. If you lost one kit, how can we watch more than one?" He leaned in close to the other fox and rubbed his cheek against him. "Perhaps an open area so that we can see the kits from the den opening."

Mical chuckled as he pawed at his mate, "You don't remember when you fell asleep in the flowers and I couldn't find you for an hour?" He rubbed his body against his mate's. "It was a horrible day for me. I thought that some predator came along and stole my little boy." He kissed Vic's cheek, his tail swishing.
"Yes an open area sounds perfect. I would like to keep my eyes on the babies at all times. At least until they are grown.....Maybe even after that." He grinned sheepishly. "Is that a little too over protective?"

Vic shook his head. "Noooo...I don't remember that day." Of course, Vic liked sleeping in the flowers a lot, because he felt comfortable there the first few months he had moved in with Mic because he blended in with them so well. So maybe there were a lot of days like that.
Vic laughed and shook his head. "Perhaps just a little. After all, they'd be grown and their own foxes. If we kept them with us at all times, they'd never get out to explore and find their own mates. And if they don't find their own mates, we might not get grandchildren to spoil rotten."

Mical smiled, "It wasn't one of the days that I like to think about. it was very scary." He nuzzled his mate affectionately. Then he smiled.
"What can I say? Finnnne." Mic pouted as he looked down, pretending to pout. "I will want grandbabies to spoil." He nodded his head, "So I guess I will have to be less protective of them. At least when they get older. But when they are kits i get to be as protective as I like." He grinned, "Right?"

Vic laughed. "Yes, while they're still kits you can be as overprotective as you want. Just make sure not to the level that they might end up hating you alright." He licked Mical's cheek. "I'd hate for our kits to have to pick favorites out of us you know?" And Vic was sure Mical would not want to come across as the bad parent.
Victorino looked around them as they walked. So...where was a good place to get a big enough den for all of them that had no flowers and wide open space to keep an eye on them. "There's a plains area around here isn't there?"

"Right....not so overprotective that the kits learn to hate me. I do not wanted to be hated by my own children." He snuggled into his mate as they walked, "I wasn't too overprotective with you was i?" He looked at him suddenly concerned. but he shook the thought away.
No, Vic would have said something. Besides he didn't hate him, no instead he loved Mical. That gave him hope.
"Hm? Oh yes the plains. I think I remember this protected den. It was relatively close to a stream so that we could have a water supply. Would you like to check that one out?" He nudged his mate.

"I don't know...there were a couple times where you did go overboard with the protectiveness around me." Vic gave Mic a smile, letting him know it was okay. "Sure there were times that I thought you weren't wanting me to have any fun, but I knew also that you were just trying to protect me was all. How could I blame you for that?" Especially the hunting bit? With Vic's first hunting lesson...Vic thought it was cool that Mical was wanting to take on the task of hunting himself if Vic wasn't up for it.
Vic laughed and nudged the other fox back. "Of course." A stream was good. They wouldn't have to travel very far for a drink. And it would have fish possibly to eat as well if they weren't in the mood for hunting other animals.
