It was late at night and unnaturally warm for the time of year, an Magnetite did not like it. His uniform coat was not light, and walking around in this somewhat warm air was not too terribly comfortable. Still, he had to get energy if he was going to make his way through the ranks, and he did not want to miss he quota with Painite. Magnetite could just deal with the heat.

He moved at the ground level on back streets to avoid large crowds, looking for loners and keeping alert for the sensation of Senshi or Knights. He hadn't run into too many of them yet, and he didn't want his first real meeting with one of them to be on their terms.

He didn't summon his weapon. He wasn't interested in having it out, he didn't think it would be of much help in a serious encounter, serving more to slow him down.

No senshi and no knights prickled around the edge of his senses; Order wasn't crossing his path tonight, it seemed. Not yet, at least. As he stretched out in search, though, something familiar would catch his attention, a bright spot of chaos that popped into existence out of nothingness. If he had the experience, Magnetite would be able to tell that it was either very close -- or very strong, strong enough to dwarf his own.

He'd have moments to process, worrying at it like a loose tooth, and then Ilmenite was there. Green and gold, his hat off, dangling loosely from one hand, his white hair was a beacon in the growing darkness. likely, he was suffering from the same problems as the fresh-faced Lieutenant, his coat heavy around his shoulder and hips, shiny-toed boots not exactly made for warm weather, but at least it was getting colder. Soon, it'd be better.

"Who are you?" He called it down without joining Magnetite on the ground, long legs dangling, and spun his hat absently around one finger. Professionalism be damned. He thought that, maybe, he'd had enough of it. "I don't recognize your colors."

Magnetite looked up suddenly at the voice and overwhelming chaos. He saw the man sitting on the ledge above him and let out a slight sigh of release. This one was on his side.

That might explain there weren’t any senshi or knights around, if he were them he’d be hiding too. This guy felt at or about the same level as Painite, the only other general he had yet encountered, and Magnetite could not imagine either would be easy to take in a fight.

Time to play nice for now; strong allies were the kind Magnetite needed as he worked his way through the ranks.

"New in town. Or at least, new to this whole negaverse business. Names Magnetite, Lieutenant Magnetite."

He gave a small bow to the man.

Ilmenite didn't bow back. Instead he leaned onto his hands, legs sprawled out, careless of the several-story drop to the pavement below. Pensive, considering his position and how he should be behaving and neatly dismissing any concerns. He was who he was. If the Negaverse didn't like that, then they sure as hell wouldn't have promoted him.

He disappeared, flicking out of sight without a warning, and then reappeared beside Magnetite. Being a General sure as hell had its perks, and he was still stretching them out, pushing his luck a little bit perhaps. And showing off. Just a touche.

"Ilmenite." A pause, and then he held out his hand one shoulder rolled on a shrug. With the other, he settled the hat back over his mop of white hair. "Who recruited you?"

Magnetite reached out to take the hand and shake it.

"General Painite. I've been gathering energy for her since, getting my bearings about this whole chaos gig."

He hated the word gig. He didn't know why he'd said it. Too late to take it back now.

"Haven't run into any Senshi or Knights yet, and my fellow negaverse agents keep impressing upon me how lucky I am for that. They must be pretty frightening for everyone to make such a big deal out of how much I should be avoiding them. "

He shrugged.

"Or maybe their bark is worse than their bite. I guess I won’t know until I meet one."

"You can't possibly know until you meet one; you can't get your own measure until you face someone. It's a bit arrogant to assume it's nothing, untried." His tone was dry, though, more amused than annoyed, more teasing than chiding. He swept several strands of white hair back out of his eyes. It was too long, now, Zink was right -- he needed to crop it down. Maybe he'd do that when he got home.

"And, ah. You're not gathering energy for Painite. You might be giving it into her hands, but you're gathering it for Metallia." This, however, was more serious, one eyebrow raised. "And for chaos. It exists to fuel the system, not just one officer among us."

Magnetite watched the man’s face as he spoke, and scowled a little bit at the distinction.

"Of course, I am aware of as much, but I don't actually pass the energy along to Metallia. I pass it to Painite. From there, it is out of my hands quite literally. Someday soon hopefully, I'll be the one passing it along, but until then my energy goes to Painite."

He hadn't really liked the implication that he didn't know what he was doing with the energy he collected, but he wasn’t going to harp on the issue.

"Haven't found much out here tonight though, so I may be returning empty handed."

Ilmenite looked around them, eyes raised, considering the scowl and the sharp edge to Magnetite's tone. He didn't like being instructed. Bully for him. But how else could his superior officers know what he did and didn't know. Rolling on his heels, he considered playing nice and then gave up on it, smiling instead.

"What the hell are you doing out here? Just hoping some random person is walking along to jump?" He gestured, vaguely, to the streets. Quiet. Just windy enough, in the surprising warmth of the evening, to cut through coats and take the edge off. "It's not really a heavily populated area..."

"Exactly"

He motioned around to the empty street.

"No bystanders. No prying eyes. Anyone I find here will be truly and utterly alone. It’s one thing to lure an idiot into an alley and try to hide behind a vomit smelling dumpster while I drain him. Here, I only have to step into the shadows for a moment and be done with it."

He crossed his arms.

"No one screams or runs or shouts or points or does any of those things that give me a headache. I dont have a weapon capable of fending off an unforeseen attack either. When I can’t play a strong game."

He tapped his temple.

"I play a smart game. Besides, I don’t know what the senshi look like; it’s easier to keep an eye out for someone who looks out of the ordinary when I’m not surrounded by civilians."

Fighting the urge to roll his eyes -- or laugh, Ilmenite rocked on the balls of his feet again. Instead he nodded sagely in reply, with amusement prickling and sparking behind his eyes, absently poking through his pockets. He'd come up with a crushed-and-crumpled pack of cigarettes with only one remaining. It had been stepped on, at some point, but the cigarette still seemed fine. He slipped it into his mouth.

"I tend to go where there are actually people, but hey, I'm only a General, what do I know." It came out muffled around the cigarette, Ilmenite patting around some more for his lighter. Cheap. Plastic. Pink. It took him three tries to get the light to catch, but only about a second to get it around the end of the cigarette.

"I guess it's harder when you have to actually touch people, but if you're charming enough, they're usually alright with it."

"And when Ive been given specific orders to be discreet. Id rather take an extra hour collecting energy then put myself, or Metallia, in jeapordy."

He'd had just about enough of that topic, looking down the street to see if any potential victims wandered out. It hadn't actually been that bad of a night, he just needed to keep at it.

"It honestly is just so warm out tonight... people take shortcuts through more dangerous parts of town when they're pressured to get out of the cold and wind up alone in these back streets. I didn't predict it being so warm tonight though, I was just considering another tactic."

"What do you do, just stand here waiting for them?" Ilmenite turned in place to look down the street, following Magnetite's eyes, expecting to see something there but -- no. Nothing. He turned back slowly, his expression perplexed, but with a generous flash of amusement behind his eyes. He couldn't succeed in hiding it completely.

"Like. They walk down and you jump them?" He pulled the cigarette from his mouth, gestured with it vaguely, like he was trying to demonstrate walking down. "You know you just have to touch them, right? I mean, you find someone who, uh, who's into moustaches I guess, get to flirting a bit, take their hand...they might not even notice it's happening. You don't have to incapacitate them..."

Another pull on the cigarette, and Ilmenite settled his shoulder back against the wall, getting comfortable. "You can catch more flies with honey."
