Today was the day she wanted to bring Cellen to the stone spiral bed she had made, but also, she needed to tell him what she was about to do. The moon was almost right, and Ai had been warned. Now was the time. She looked to the sky, growing dark, the sky changing colors and reflecting in the ater before her. She watched it swirl down passed her, down towards the waterfall and she turned away intent on finding him.
He needed to know.
She headed for the thicket, the underbrush, then towards the ocean, and she howled out for him calling. She wanted to bring him to their new home, new bed that she had built for them, but he needed to know, and she needed, in a manner, his permission to do what she felt was needed.
She wanted to feel whole again.

He often traversed about the wild while cloaked with nights darkness, keen on surveying the land and protecting their territory. With Reisx by his side, there was a vigilant streak that surged through his overall mannerism which instincts drove him to guard her, to enable her to live freely without fear, and to love her as if no male could ever, or had ever, loved her as much as he. Between them, the foundation for an unbreakable bond has been forged and, with it, Cellen had sworn to always cherish her-- a promise which he would see through until the day of his passing. Coming up toward the trail head, his ears erected forward as a magnificent song cut through the melodious serenade of the night.
She was calling for him.
Cellen threw his head upward to the sky where the moon rode high into the night and sang back to her, signaling that he was on his way. The clarity of her song was a key indicator to their positions; she was close and the distance between them seemed to be several lengths away.
His slow pace picked up into an attentive trot which, before long, suddenly morphed into lunging strides. He hated being the reason for a hold up---that stagnant feeling had never, nor never would, bode well with him. The feral scaled over a toppled, decomposing log and shattered through solemn streams that snaked though their territory. His nostrils flared, their wings unfurling slightly as he inhaled deeply. Reisx's scent saturated the air and hung with its intoxicating scent being whisked across the breeze.
"Reisx," he called out, his powerful strides carried him to soar atop the ground, "where are you, Marra?" His Marra, his love. Being with her only made his heart swell.

As she heard his voice, his call back, she closed her eyes and remembered when his call was like another moon in the sky lighting her way, baiting her of promise, but also bringing her home. She smiled, opening her eyes, hearing the small, barely-there crunches of leaves and organic detritus upon the ground and saw as a dark figure approach.
"Here, I'm here," she spoke softly walking to him.
She had so many things to say tonight, to explain, but, she needed to do this right, to plan it in order.
She came close to him, her side touching his, and she walked around him, taking in his scent, inhaling in the early night.
"I need to bring you somewhere," she said.
She took a moment, and stopped in front of him, she had grown stronger, her head held higher, a smile on her maw, "and, I want to tell you some things...if you'd let me."

His mates smell began to saturate the air greatly and, in doing so, he could feel his heart set a-flutter within the cavity of his chest. Between courtship and couples, it had always been said that when ones heart fluttered that it only would last during the time of courtship and, once together, it was seldom that it would ever beat with the same intensity. Whoever had come up with such fallacy was a damn fool or perhaps he never truly been in love. Although it was cliche to say, Cellen found himself in awe each time that he saw his mate. It was as if she was walking past him for the first time whenever they crossed paths or reunited with one another after the sun had retreated behind the ocean. His heart beat for her and for her alone.
As she approached, a deep rumble emitted from his chest in greeting. He crooned softly as their sides touched. Cellen's keen ocher orbs drank in her form. He stepped closer to her as she stood before him and tenderly licked at her maw.
"Marra, you know I would follow you anywhere as long as I walk beside you," he replied. His voice bore its deep tone yet its ebb and flow was as smooth as a polished river stone.
Gently caressing her face with his muzzle, the male feral delicately maneuvered it across her lips before pressing his nose against hers. A small grin tucked at the corner of his maw as he gazed into her eyes.
"There is never a moment where you cannot tell me something. You can always tell me something---regardless of what it is." It was true. He would always be there for her as well as be an individual who would help carry her burdens. The thought of having his mate traverse life and carry such emotions and feeling solo only conjured ill thoughts within him.
He would see to it that he would bear the weight for her, however he could.
"What's on your mind?"

As he came closet to her, his maw touching hers, their noses touching, she sighed and drank in the mingling scents, the warmth emanating from their bodies, and let herself get away, just slightly, to focus. "Then come with m," she said softly, "follow me," and she began walking. She wanted this to end at their new place, their secret place where she had been working, but it was a little bit of a walk. It would, however, give her some time.
She took a breath, and she hoped he knew that it was hard for her, as she lost a piece of herself when in the company of that awful human, but she wanted to try, she wanted to heal completely.
"I've been going to the settlement..." she started, "not looking for trouble, just looking for, answers, insight, and I've met some there. I met a friend of yours I think, Ai?" she said looking to his eyes, she smiled then, "she's become very close to me, and seems to understand. Others there, have shown me not all humans were like the one that was cruel to me," she said trailing off. She walked slowly then, letting her side be close to his, "But, I've also met a mokai who I've come to arms with. He reminds me so much of him Cellen, he doesn't listen, and will not listen to reason."
The night was beautiful, and she felt horrible for seemingly feeling like she was dampening it like the dew beneath their paws.
"This mokai, he's a fighter, like we were, and he-" she stopped, grit her fangs together, hiding her eyes from Cellen. "He's causing problems for so many, for Ai, for her...family, he's threatened me as well. He hopes I'm captured again, and brought back to him."

Yet another pleased rumble thrummed from out of his chest if only to silently acknowledge her request as he walked willingly beside her. He looked toward her, sensing that there was something that sought to be discussed which was difficult. If only to ease her struggle, he leaned into her and gently nibbled at her ear before parting. As much as he would have enjoyed to caress against her and help whisk away that which plagued her, there was an sensation which urged him to truly listen and digest that which was soon to unfold.
As his mate began, his ears swiveled slightly. "So it seems we both have been traversing to the settlement," he mused. Cellen's lips pursed thoughtfully as the cogs of his mind began to turn about his recollection of Resix's close friend. "Ah, Ai. She's a damn good fighter. So long as you have someone to watch your back when you're within the settlement then I have no problem with you venturing there whenever you wish."
He was amused, to say the least although, admittedly, slightly worried. Yet if Ai had promised to keep her safe while his mate ventured into the settlement then his apprehension would certainly lift. Yet, on the other paw, he knew how loyal and dedicated AI was to her human and if the situation arose where the young fighter was to choose between her human and his mate then his hesitation would only brood anew. Although, while on that same note, he also had to address something as well--once which, for him, only helped reinforce his comfort when it came to entering into the settlement; they had gained a buffer of protection, so to speak.
"I've been frequently venturing to the settlement as well, Marra. My old handler---I had to see her again. Humans, like us, have their agency and even amongst those who choose to embrace violence there are those who are compassionate. Without her being so willing to take me in, I would have been thrown into the illegal pits---you and I both know that. She saved me and because of that I view her as part of my pack." A wreath of mist encircled his muzzle as he exhaled deeply. He wasn't sure how his mate would react but only hoped to elaborate just a bit more. "Her 'den' is a safe haven for us and a way where we can venture in and out of their settlement without worry. If any damn thing were to happen to either of us, she would give whoever it was hell. The only thing that I ask of you so we both can utilize this option is that you need to meet her and her mate."
A moment of silence settled between them. But something stuck out within his train of thought---something that his mate had said clawed restlessly at the back of his mind.
"Who is this Mokai?" He bristled, the guard hairs along the nape of his neck and spin stood on end. An inferno swelled within him like a firestorm that was reigning out of control. Again, the vigilant protective instinct stroked his inherent feral nature which only caused a snarl to ripple across his lips, teeth bared as they pulled away from his gums. "Who the ******** has the audacity to threaten you or Ai? If he's threatening Ai then that means he is also threatening Erebus and their children. I gave Erebus my word that I would protect him and I would be damned if I let anything escalate or allow that son of a b***h to so much as cross paths with you or Ai and Erebus's family."
Looking toward his mate, Cellen maneuvered his muzzle beneath his mates and lifted up her head. Withdrawing his muzzle, the male stepped in front of her and looked Reisix in the eye. The starlight above was so bright that it became caught within his eyes and melded with the relentless determination that emanated from his posture.
"No one will ever drag you back to him. If that b*****d even tries to harm you, even dares to approach you, I will see to it that I tear out his goddamn throat," he growled. "When anyone threatens you, they threaten me as well; I won't stand for that s**t. The only thing they'll be bringing back to the settlement will be his mangled carcass that will be all but carrion for the scavengers."
His tail, like a plumed flag, erected high behind him--waving behind him like a declaration of war.
"I would rather die than see you return back into his control."

Reisx gave Cellen a smile. It seemed like Cellen and his strength and confidence was eagerly exploring the settlement on his own terms as well. More so, seeing his old human? She quirked a brow at this, but for his description, the way he described her, she felt her body become more at ease. She just, didn't want to lose him. Ever. "I only hope her home isn't more tempting than mine" she said playfully, leaning her side against his, touching her head under his chin, his neck.
As he spoke, it appeared he already knew about Ai and Erebus, their children.
He apparently made the same oath to protect their family if needed, just as she had.
They truly were kindred souls.
"His name is Imnir," she spoke, "he said he would sound the alarm if I returned, aid the humans in capturing me," she let her breath draw off slightly as they walked and they came to the underbrush just before the raised grove, just before her surprise.
But not yet.
"I know," she said coming close to him, relishing in his touch, his comfort, but she pulled away slightly, "but Cellen, you know what he did to me," she walked a few paces ahead, and stopped right before the line of bushes, facing towards Cellen. "Look at me," she said, "I-I may seem whole, but I don't feel it. He took that from me Cellen, he broke a piece of me away." She grit her fangs together, jaw clenched. "I don't want to feel like this anymore, this mokai, I know what he said but..." she hesitated, "I need to go back...I need to do something to hm to let him know he didn't take everything from me, and I can rebuild for the better."
She wasn't sure how he would handle it, how he would react.
Say no forbid it?
"I have to do this Cellen," she spoke softly, "I don't want to feel like he'll always have a piece of me there."

A rouse of deep, rumbling laughter crooned from out of his chest. As his mate leaned against his side and maneuvered her head to caress against his neck, the male grinned. "Marra, there are many things that their home has which I could never find here. For one thing, you're not there," he winked. "I view their home as a safe haven if ever we need to enter or escape the settlement. Perhaps I am a bit off my rocker but if anything would befall either of us I know that either Keegan or Talonth would come to our defense."
The settlement was becoming far more unpredictable to a degree which feral instincts could do little to give oneself the upper hand. But expanding on their resources and what they could arrange as a safe haven, let alone a sanctuary, within Huntingdon was crucial.
"You have to keep in mind that those damn domestic Mokai, even if they have ties with us, will remain inclined to serve their handler. We need to utilize every resource we have in that settlement."
For a moment he stood silent while the cogs of his mind tossed about the information pertaining first to this male fighter. A rippling snarl crossed along his maw while his claws grappled into the soft terra below, raking into the earth. Cellen's nostrils flared with a snort as his tail flicked behind him. Imnir--he would remember that name. Even the sound of it rolling along his thoughts and off of his mates tongue only justified a decent name for b*****d.
"No one will lay a paw, let alone a hand, on you. I'll see to it," he growled defensively.
Already there were plans and attempts to paint the male fighter as a traitor, a damn monster by creating a ploy---a set up if only to paint the kettle black. The idea was good and, possibly, it could come in handy.
As his mate further continued on about him, Cellen grew apprehensive. He knew the torment and the unforgiving atrocities that her human committed against her. He knew the extent better than anyone else as his knowledge was based on first hand accounts. Yet there was a looming sense of danger that laced her words--something that did not bode well for him.
"What will you do to him?" He questioned, looking her in the eyes. " I only ask that you don't shed an ounce of his damn blood or else the target on the back of our heads will become a hell of a lot more defined."
The healing process for one to recover from a savage ordeal was a journey in of itself; the individual's plight could never be rectified nor smoothed over instantly. A broken soul was like an unfinished painting--each brush stroke was to be defined by progress within rebuilding ones life anew until the once forgotten painting was to be brought into the light and marveled upon its remarkable completeness. In the pit of his stomach, Cellen knew that it was the right thing to do. How could he reprimand his mate from trying to become whole once again?
"I'm coming with you," he announced with an assertiveness that etched his tone. "There's no ******** way I'll let you go alone."

Reisx knew he would be protective, angry, aggressive. But how could he not, he was her mate, he had it within himself in instinct and spirit. She swayed her tail, looked to the sky, "I will not shed his blood, no, that would too easy, too simple of a task. I will take what he loves most," she lowered her eyes to Cellen's, a hard expression in her eyes, "I will take from him, the money he won from using me...from betting against me, from everything he put me through. I know where he kept it, I saw him place it in a box by his bed, and I will take it, and burn it, or...even give it to your human, since you care for her so."
She looked to the ground, fur bristling, "I know certain nights he goes to the slums that smell of the awful drink, and he stumbles and mumbles, I will go when he is not home, and take it from him then, he will come home to nothing but a memory of what was, and nothing will be left for him. Not money, not me, not even the pieces he stole from my spirit."
Reisx looked to Cellen, determination in her eyes, "I want you close, but not in his home, the both of us, we might cause too much noise, but I want you to be safe with your human, close, and I will run to you after I am done."
She did not know if Cellen would agree, if he like it, but she hoped he understood she had to be the one to go inside, she didn't want him to see it, and think of what happened there.
"I need to do this....but, I need you close by too."

Although inside he was adamant about intruding inside her old handlers residence, Cellen knew that the two of them would be an unnecessary distraction. Not to mention that he hadn't a bloody clue on the layout of the house that Reisx was to break into. In reality, he would only be a dead weight. His jowls gritted together as he exhaled with a snort from out of his nostrils. No, for this he could do nothing to persuade her to rethink her decision but nonetheless Cellen would support her.
This was her endeavor and her plight alone to bring an end to the past and write the dawn of a new beginning in Reisx's chapter of life.
Cellen pursed his lips thoughtfully and nodded. "I know you do. But to help me not freak the ******** out, we need to come up with a signal you can give me in the chance that you run into a mess of horlicks."
Tenderly, he nuzzled her and licked her muzzle affectionately. "We'll give him a hell of a rude awakening," he rumbled.

As he came close to her, and touched his nose to her, she closed her eyes, "If I need you, I will sound what you did for me, to awaken my spirit and set me free," she looked to his eyes, hers shone bright in the moonlight, "I will howl, I will call for you."
She knew she would give her old master a run for his money, literally, and it made her grin knowing what was to come.
"Everything is set, Ai knows and will keep the pus safe, warn them to stay inside, you will just need to be with your human nearby. Everything is set, except one thing," she touched her side to his, and circled round him, coaxing him forward, "Come, I want to show you something."
She walked through the underbrush, on the other side, the raised root tree grove began. The trees were nestled together, the perfect hideaway. No human would be able to rek here with ease, and they would always have the advantage.
She led him into the grove farther, and stopped where you could hear the streams sound. "I made this, for us," she said walking to the spiral, smooth stone bed she had built. Each stone was placed one by one, nestled underneath the canopy of a great raised root tree.
It was their place, their area of quiet and solace from the outside world.
"Like everything we've overcome, everything that will happen, we've passed over it, and we will continue," she rubbed her paw over them, starting in the middle and swirling out. "And just like this," she said, looking to the swirl that started and upon illusion of the tones of the rocks, continued into itself, feeding itself over and over, "my feeling for you will remain constant."
She walked to him, nestling her head under his, breathing in his scent, knowing now was the time not to be hesitant, but truthful, genuine, non-restrictive.
"I love you," and she always would.
They would overcome the near future together, and grow stronger here, in the wild, where no chains bound them. They would live by the bounds of one another, their love and connection while remaining free.
