MAKING SOME CHANGES DUE TO PLOT RESHAPING!
Anything that is striked out is essentially being voided due to plot reshaping with new information about Dir's family. Therefore it is being striked out and we will continue from where we can to make it all fit.
TL;DR : Anything striked out has been 'erased'. Continuing on with newer plots.

This is a PRP for Samandiriel, owned by Darkmoon Dancer, and Aella, owned by Nyx Queen of Darkness.

No, no, no! Everything was wrong, all wrong!

Stopping for the hundredth time that morning, Dir had to drop his bag to the ground and stuff all the things that had fallen out. Again. Brushes, slabs of hardened bark, pastes and other art supplies kept falling out because he had done such a horrid job of packing his things. He had been in such a hurry to get going that he may well have forgotten a thing or two, but he didn't care. He had to leave, he had to get out of there, and far far away.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.
How could this have happened?!

Shaking his head, his wraps drooped far more than usual, the last bit even dragged along the ground behind him. Distraught and crying, the flutter stallion was leaving the only place that he had ever known as home. How could he stay here when everything had just been turned upside down on him? Nothing made sense any more, so he had rashly decided that he was leaving. He got a fair distance past the fields that he had frolicked in as a foal and just reached the treeline that signified the edge of his family's territory when a few things fell out of his bag once more. Plopping down on his rump, Dir sat down to take one last look at what used to be his home. But he could only bare it a few moments. Quickly he gathered up those dropped possessions and stuffed them back into his bag, this time throwing the top over to help it all stay in, and turned his back on the fields for good.

Lifting his head, his ears wouldn't listen and continued to droop, not to mention the tears that flowed down his muzzle, Dir tried to look forward through those blurry eyes, and began to walk... that way.

Aella looked through the curtain of her hair with her light brown eyes. She watched as the flutter boy moved through the trees, his head getting lower and lower to the ground. She moved swiftly and without sound to closer examine him. She could hear the muffled sobs as he moved on carrying a small bag.

She couldn't help but be intrigued. Surely, he was not threat to her--and he was interesting. Was he injured? Was he exiled too? She moved closer to him, before she hazarded to speak.

"Boy, why are you crying?" She tilts her head, the sun causing her hair to burn like fire on her head.

In his misery, Dir does not hear the mare coming, in fact it's a wonder that he even hears her speak. Lifting his head some, he turns to look back at her, tears still streaming down his cheeks. Not even bothering to analyze whether the mare would pose him any danger, Dir opens his mouth to answer, but comes up with nothing. He sniffles once or twice before he's able to muster a response, but when it comes it's filled with anguish and turmoil.

"Finished. Gone. Everything's gone wrong. It's all fallen apart! Nothing makes sense anymore..." His words trail off and that's all he can manage to reply to the mare with. His thoughts were so muddled and flying about in his mind that it was hard for him to even make out the real world. She would have to try to get him to focus to get him to come out of this stupor and into a real conversation.

Aella drew closer to him, ducking her head to try to see his eyes. "What's gone?" She watched him for a moment, before seeing he was non-responsive.

She shook her hair out of her face, "You can't wander around like this. There are things about--creatures who will kill you. You need to pay attention. Are you hurt?" She looks at him earnestly.

Shaking his head he stops short and lifts a leg, shifting his body weight onto his back legs and briefly considered rearing in his distraught state. But when she spoke once more, it sounded soothing and warm to him, and it killed his panic almost instantly. Relaxing his tensed muscles he opened his eyes and blinked them real hard once or twice to get as much of the salty tears out of his way. The mare was right, there could be things out here that wanted to kill him, and he had to pay attention. Not that he had enemies, but he had been told of creatures of pure evil that sought to massacre for pleasure. He definitely wanted to avoid those.

Taking a deep breath, he allowed his gaze to stray over the mare's face to take in her image as he replied mostly calmly, "No, I am not hurt. Physically, at least. I... I'm sorry you saw this... mess... of emotions." Uncharacteristically sombre, Dir tried to rub the remaining tears off on his leg before straightening back up to offer the mare a more appropriate introduction. "My name is Samandiriel, but you can call me Dir, for short."

Aella's hair whipped up as a light breeze tugged at the ends. She knew how it was to be crippled by something within, as if the whole soul was a dark and dank breeding ground for hopelessness. Somewhere deep within was a valley of broken hearts and dreams.

"It's okay, I am here for you if you need me." She offered it gently. "Dir, I'm Aella. Are you okay now? What's the matter? Would it help to talk?" She paused, what reason had she given him to trust her. What should she say?

"I've known pain and loneliness. Maybe I can help or at least understand. Isn't that what you want?" She left out the part about death and exile and fires and destruction. He didn't need to know how bad her life had been, just that she could understand if he let her.

A slight bend of the knee and a nod was his acceptance of her name and almost a reply to her first question. Glancing around his hooves shuffled about nervously, anxious to get him going. "We should not stay here. I do not belong here anymore." Beckoning her to follow Dir stepped up close to her side, closer than would normally be comfortable but warmth was something he was craving right now, and he did not know where his next company would be. Leading her away from the area, Dir did not know where he was going, in truth, but for the time being it just mattered that he was moving away from his family's territory.

Having gotten his legs moving now, Dir sighed and sniffed a little trying to build up the confidence to say something, to explain what had happened, or for that matter to sort out his thoughts to begin to form an explanation in the first place. Opening his mouth a few times and closing it, he finally formed a few cohesive thoughts to share.

"I can't go back. Nothing makes sense anymore, and I just... No." An angry flick of his tail as his sombre expression began to turn into something resembling ire and anger. "Red warmth, blue butterflies, fresh skies and pastel flowers all turn to dust and death. All of a sudden everything withered away, never to be the same. Up turned down, black to white, and happy frolicking turned into panicked fleeing. What of what I know is truth, and how much is lies?" From growling to snarling back to sombre and pained, his emotions danced as vividly as the images he painted in explanation. This was how he knew how to express himself, and should he not be trying to get as far away from here as he could he would probably have stopped and made these images into being. But for now, this would have to do.

Aella walked with him, letting him take comfort and solace in her presence. How often had she longed for that in her darkest days? Just someone to listen to her, to exist beside her so that she could be peaceful. It was nice feeling comfortable and safe.

It sounded easy right? But it had taken her years to find that kind of solace and it was only, only fleeting. So she stood tall beside him allowing him shelter beside her. But as he mumbled on in half crazy, half formed thoughts she wondered if he had in fact lost something--maybe even his mind. Not permanently, but was he disoriented to the point of confusion. Had he lost it just for now?

"Stop, " she spoke calmly. "Think and breathe. You have to use words--tangible words that we can both know what you mean. Look me in the eye, tell me what's wrong. Okay?" She glanced down at him in concern.

Hopefully with time the lost look in his would fade. He wouldn't have to walk like a ghost through this life for years like she did--she hoped. What had he seen? What had happened that brought his total mindset, his life to a screeching halt?

What was the word she'd heard before? Götterdämmerung--twilight of the gods. When the old world fell away forever. That's what he was witnessing.

It did indeed feel like the entire world was falling away out from under him. As if his hooves were trying to plant onto some sort of solid ground but every time would just plunge deeper and deeper into darkness and confusion.

"Stop," He stopped. Literally and utterly he stopped. No breathing, no blinking, no nothing. Just stop.

"Think and breathe." Inhale. Hold it. Think? What was there to think about? Granted, he was already thinking about a million things all at once, trying to piece it all together in any way he could think of to make it make sense. Ok, he could do this. Exhale.

"Look me in the eye, tell me what's wrong. Okay?" The concern was genuine. His foggy eyes looked up into hers and he saw the concern, but he also saw that there was an old pain buried behind barriers. She had her own burdens to bear and yet here she was asking him about his. He would never be able to thank her enough for this moment.

That was when the dam broke and when it all started gushing out. That was when he lost the ability to keep it all in. Between sobs and wiping away tears, Dir opened up to the stranger as if he had known her all his life.

Aella watched as the broken boy fell apart in front of her. All of his secrets, all of his fears gushing out freely into her grasp. She soothed him, pushing her hair out of the way much as she remembered soothing her sister in years before. "It's okay, dear one. You're okay. You're okay."

What comfort did the words bring to him? Probably not much, but it was the knowledge that someone was there--that someone really and truly cared. "I am here for you." She let the words escape her mouth, hoping that somehow they broke through. A simple, simple promise. I am here for you. I am here with you. Stay with me, it's not so bad--you're not alone. That's what it said, and she hoped he heard it.

Her words were barely heard, but they did help, they did exactly what any comforting actions should: not necessarily mean anything, but soothe in the fact that someone is there to say them. He poured out his heart and soul, standing still, shoulders sagging as he pressed up against the mare taking a little comfort in the fact that he was not here alone, even if it was with a stranger.

"It makes no sense anymore. I came home from wandering around our borders -their borders, now- and it was all broken. There was mother, carrying on as if nothing was wrong, and father had just walked out calm as ever, but it wasn't just a normal stroll. His face was... long. Eyes wet, and muzzle serious as he turned away from mother and walked away, stride slow but steady. It felt like he was never coming back, but by the time I turned on the spot to ask him what had happened, he had shrunk smaller than I'd ever seen, and he was darting off and away." Tears welled up in his own eyes once more, but he sniffed and bravely kept talking. Now that he had started, it was almost as if he couldn't stop until he was done.

"Spinning on the spot, I had picked a bunch of flowers for my mother, but when I saw the look on her face they fell. It was so quiet that they could almost be heard thudding as their soft petals fell to the stones underhoof. I stood stock-still, frozen in place even though I wanted to rush up to her, nuzzle her and ask her what had happened. And she spoke softly, the words 'Your dad and I...' and she couldn't even finish her sentence, only shook her head and turned away from me. It felt like forever that I stood there, stuck. How could they? How could they not be.... They were lifemates!" Shaking his head angrily the flutter's frame jittered a little as if he was about to change size, but he fought the instinct to shrink away. Closing his eyes, tears being squeezed out across his cheeks, Dir took another deep breath and stabilized his frame in his regular size. There was more to say, more to get out but he had to stay here in this world and not allow himself to pass out from the overload of emotions. So a few more deep breaths passed as he tried to calm himself a little, and let the tears flow silently.

"Things happen," Aella coos to him. "People you love do things you don't understand. People you hate do things you understand. Sometimes love that's meant to last forever fails...or the body does. Sometimes love that's not meant to be stands the test of time. We can't pretend to understand the ways of the heart or the universe. We'll only go crazy trying."

She soothed him, soft words. Just whispers and assurances that things would be okay. "Take a deep breath. Do you know what makes me feel better at times like this? A friend showed me once a wonderful food called sugar."

There were so many other things that he wanted to say aloud, so many other thoughts that milled about his head screaming to come out, and yet none of them had actual words to be expressed. And for once in his life, for the very first time, in fact, he felt violent. The little flutter wanted to pick things up and throw them, to smash and stomp and to scream and cry. He wanted to shoulder and headbutt, and do anything he could to make things look around him like they felt inside of his head and heart, but her feminine voice caught his attention once more and he calmed back down, almost instantly forgetting that momentary rage that he had never felt before.

It was hard to focus on what she said, but he really did try his hardest as he blinked back tears and looked up at her with blurry eyes. Following her lead and her suggestion, he took a deep breath just as she said, and asked her without speaking by tilting his head. What did she mean by that?

"Sugar," her voice was soft. He was trying to listen, "It's a food. It melts on your tongue. It exhilarates you and can make even the darkest moment feel like it's not quite dark. It makes you feel not so tired and sad, but better and happier."

She looked into his eyes, "You have to try to not sink beneath the sorrow, not matter the weight of it. You might not surface if you give up. You don't want that do you?"
