The young fighter was frustrated, to say the least, with his current situation. He'd barely had enough time to recover since his last fight before he was taken to what he assumed to be another pit. It was brighter, for whatever reason, and he could make out the jeering faces of the human crowd shouting for their mokai of choice to win. He snorted, a bit disgusted with the sight. He wouldn't let it get to him though.

Rook refused to acknowledge Jamie; it was the other way around the last time. His human, however, seemed content with that arrangement and simply contented himself with keeping a good distance away from his fighter. The silvery splotched male huffed when he glanced in the raven-haired male's direction, narrowing his eyes slightly. Some master.. he thought, clearly annoyed.

As soon as the gate was opened though, he put it all out of his mind. Enough mistakes had been made the last time he was in the ring, and he wouldn't make those same mistakes again. Instead, Rook went charging into the ring, bi-colored eyes set on his opponent. He wouldn't be caught by surprise this time around; not a chance.

Her new owner had brought her here. Shirshalla was taking in the new sights and smells. She growled at any mokai that approached too closely. The relationship with her new owner was still tentative. Already it was much better than her old one. It took some coaxing to get her into the gate and ready. The woman reached in and rubbed her ears.

"Do you're best Shirshalla."

The female fighter looked up at her then through the bars at what she could see. There was an enclosed ring and what looked like another gate across it. Suddenly it went up, and another fighter entered the arena. Shirshalla walked stiff-legged out from her gate. Her lips were already curled back in a snarl and the fur along her back prickled.

Green and blue eyes found his opponent, a darkly colored mokai with rosettes sprinkled along her back. He would have stopped to appreciate the female a bit more had it been in a different setting, but as it wasn't, coupled with the fact that she was snarling at him and probably wouldn't give him the time of day anyway, he didn't. He'd be ridiculed out of the compound and for the rest of his life if he lost a fight because he was enthralled by a pretty female in the ring. There were quite a few female fighters, as a matter of fact, and most of them had much more experience than he did in the ring.

Instead, he went on with his charge, pouncing at the other fighter with bared claws and a snarl to match hers. With any luck, his claws would make contact and he'd be off to a much better start than his first fight.

She wasn’t expecting the male to come at her quite so quickly. As it was she barely had time to turn aside from the brunt of it. Taking his attack to her shoulder, the female snarled and snapped at him. It didn’t come close to connecting. Shirshalla drew back for a bit of space, and circled around. She had been content to just warn him away from her. Now it was personal.

Now she went on the attack. Darting in to snarl and snap; she went for the vulnerable points. Trying to slow him down and give herself a better chance at a solid hit. Her eyes flashed briefly toward his legs, then she went in for the attack.

Despite being able to dodge the brunt of his attack, Rook felt his claws dig into soft flesh and draw just a bit of blood. It wasn't a serious hit, but he was just getting started anyhow. He had her on the retreat, but didn't give her much space or time to think of some way to turn the tide in her favor. Pearly-whites showing in as menacing a snarl as his young face would allow, Rook pressed forward on the offense.

It didn't seem as though she was planning on back down either, which suited him just fine. He exchanged wild swipes with her, aiming for just about anywhere until he saw an opening for a good hit. Her claws met with his gray flesh and drew blood several times before, amidst his attack, he noticed that she had started aiming for his legs before she went in for the kill. That was his opening.

At the same time that he aimed his jaws down at the back of her neck, Rook he felt a sharp pain soar up from his paw where her fangs managed to dig into, and he strained to fight back a cry of pain.

Her shoulder ached slightly from the previous slash. It was oozing sluggishly, but not bad. Shirshalla tried not to favor that leg. She couldn’t let this male find a weakness. At his snarl, she laid her ears back and returned it with one of her own. They closed in again. Several more claw marks soon graced her flanks. The female gloated as she caught his paw. Though she thought she had a good grip, he quickly got free.

She paced around and around him; first one direction and then the other. Shirshalla wanted to pin the male and sink her fangs into him. She thought she got her chance. Moving in low and giving a series of quick snaps.

Damn, he thought as he overshot her neck and simply grazed her shoulder. Luckily he managed to recover quickly enough, and slipped out of her grip without too much difficulty. The young fighter took a few steps back, his whole body starting to numb as he took a second to catch his breath; he was panting hard, but he wasn't out of steam just yet. His body could go limp after the fight was over. Rook forced his body's condition to the back of his mind and simply focused on winning before the two of them clashed yet again.

The female was still aiming low, which was a bit to his advantage. He managed to dodge well enough, though every so often he'd feel her teeth nick his paws every so often. Though she was clearly on the offense, Rook quickly realized that she was leaving herself open to an if he could just take a step back. A split second pause from the darker mokai gave him that opportunity, and upon stepping back he quickly positioned himself and put all of his weight into a body slam, hoping to knock her off her feet.

Shirshalla let out a yelp as he scored again on the already scratched shoulder. That stung! She had to turn as he backed off a bit to present her uninjured shoulder. Much more damage on that shoulder and she’d limp for sure. The female had to resist the urge to lick her wounds. There would be time for that afterwards.

She thought she was ready for the next round. An undignified oommmph escaped her as the sturdy male rammed bodily into her. She went down and tumbled head over tail. Shirshalla hit the wall and wit wandered for a moment. She could hear the woman calling her name. Was she…. worried? Slowly she pulled herself to her wobbly feet and shook her head.

He felt his own body make contact hard with his opponent's, and in the process he knocked a bit of wind out of himself as well. He didn't slow down though, and went chasing after the mokai's tumbling form, snarling and relentless. The fight wasn't over yet, so he wasn't going to give her any chances to recover.

As he watched the weakened mokai get to her feet, he could hear the cheers from the humans on the sidelines grow louder, egging him on for the kill. He pushed it out of his mind though. This was his fight, not theirs; they had no business getting involved. He circled his opponent for a bit, watching, and when she was completely up he lunged at her again, claws bared and jaws snapping in search for their target.

Shirshalla couldn’t believe he got such a good hit on her. Her legs felt jiggly at first, but steadied out with a couple of steps. She couldn’t let him hit her like that again. The female re-orientated herself and turned back to her opponent. She growled low in her throat as the male came at her again.

The female tensed, waiting for him to come to her. Shirshalla watched his flashing teeth coming closer and closer. Not yet, not yet, now! At the last moment she dodged to the side and took a vicious swipe with her paw at his exposed body.

He underestimated her, apparently, and as he went in she dodged just at the last minute, even managing to dig her claws deep into his side. The young fighter let out a cry of mixed anger and pain, the pain searing at his side where she made contact. Just as he was about to turn to retaliate and pay the female back for what would likely be a new scar, someone came running into the ring and called a halt to the fight, pulling the gray splotched mokai by his collar to stand down.

He fought with the human's hold, but when Jamie came walking into the ring to get him, Rook stopped fussing and blinked up at his human. "Nice job in there," the teen said through pale lips. Rook gathered that he must have been scared out of his wits in the sidelines, so simply offered him a small smile of reassurance. Jamie frowned as knelt down to assess his mokai. "Let's get you checked out then, c'mon."

Rook followed at his master's side, a bit of a limp in his step from the injuries on his legs and paws. Before they got too far he turned around and regarded his opponent with a brief nod. "Hey," he called, a small smile on his maw. "Good fight. The name's Rook, by the way." He turned at that, and hobbled to catch up to Jamie, who was already at the gate.

Shirshalla knew her paw had hit well from the recoil she felt. At first she was very pleased to have gotten him back. Then her paw started hurting. She limped on it and realized she might have sprained it. Already she was calculating how to keep fighting with only walking on three legs. Fortunately she was saved from the male's next attack by a human jumping in and pulling him back.

Then her owner was in aswell and checking her over. Shirshalla blinked as the woman checked her wounds and made sure she didn't try to keep attacking. She looked over as the male turned back and talked to her. The female huffed and glared at him before turning and leaving with her owner.
