Now that she was an official year two, and now that she'd decided to try and do more official year two things (whatever those were), Chuppi had taken it upon herself to get a new wardrobe and sort of shed her older clothing. Thank to running and working and fretting she'd managed to lose a few pounds, tucking away a bit of her pudgy belly into a body that was developing . . . what was that word the gnome had used? Ah yes. Curves. Apparently Chuppi had curves and she was told a dress would help her best suit them. Dresses also did not have backs and she didn't need to wear straps either so it worked out for the best, and the monster styled her hair to suit the new clothing.

Eventually she would need a hair cut, but for now she'd keep it in a braid that she could do herself. It resulted in something that sat against her shoulder most of the time, but at least she was looking older. She kept her Thermos on its strap and over her other shoulder and it bounced against her legs as she moved, her gait a bit unsteady due to the load in her arms. Chuppi had taken the chance at being a year up to raid a different section of books in the library and, being a monster, she took advantage of the fact that she could carry quite a stack of them without any troubles.

During her travels she was actually leaving a trail of books behind, several of them dropping off as she turned and moved, but the stack was well above her head and she hardly noticed a difference in weight. Her main goal was to get out to an area that was sunny and free of people - she wanted to read!

It was a shame he had not come by the library earlier! Lookit all dem bewks! oAo Mort was a slow reader to be sure, but to think of all the information and stories he could procure from here . . . It was mind-boggling. Whether the librarian would allow rentals, however, he had yet to know.

For a good several hours, Mort had been divesting the dictionary of its contents, eager to try and begin the path to smartness with an expanded vocabulary. Some of the words in there made his head scratch as to how it came about, or why anyone would want to use it, or how the heck he could say it, but the boil read nonetheless because that's what the undead did: they persevered in spite of whatever obstacle was in their way, physical or no. A book would not beat him!

Though it did give him a headache after a while.

What eventually pulled him away from this nearly sadomasochistic approach to learning was the sound of thumping. Thump. Thump. Mort looked up to find, curiously, that a stack of book was moving. Wavering. Dropping things.

Oh wait, someone was carrying them! A ghoul, if the dress told him anything. "U-Um! Miss, is dropping!" he called to her in as much of a library-volume voice as he could manage, leaving his post to go and collect some of the ones beings dropped. "Is dropping! Please to hold on?"

Apparently someone was an avid reader!

Chuppi would have kept on walking, dropping books in her wake, if one hadn't happened to fall forward instead of behind. It landed right where her foot set down and she paused, a soft exhale of surprise escaping her lips. She set down the load in her arms just in time to hear someone speak. Cautiously she peered over her shoulder to see who it was, her red eyes already starting to water with nerves. Her hands were raised up to her face in their usual defense pose, though when she got a full turn involved and a full gaze down on the person who was speaking, the monster visibly calmed. "Oh Mort."

It'd been a good while since she'd last seen the zombie boil, not since the time before prepping for her exams, and she wondered if he'd been doing okay (or if he even would recognize her. "Ha sido uno tiempo, have you been well?" Her words were soft and hesitant, her clawed fingers covering most of her mouth to add to the muffling. The last time they'd met her fox was bringing her something to eat and that was embarrassing, though thanks to exam prep and attempts to get back into shape she'd gotten something of a decent figure.

It was when she noticed that he had a few books in his possession, all covers she recognized as ones she'd selected herself, and Chuppi's cheeks flushed a pale rose. "Did you gather those up for me? Thank you."

For a few moments Mort didn't speak as his one-track mind was fully on getting those fallen books out. If the librarian caught them, they'd probably be kicked out faster than they could say pumpkin pie! And he really didn't want to lose this valuable resource of ze bewks!

"Hokay, here we go." He now hefted about four or so in his arms, not seeming to be bothered by their combined weight. "Should be careful, too many books -"

And then he paused, because without the tall tower of literature he could actually see the student. The cute student. The cute student who knew his name somehow. The cute student who knew his name somehow who was blushing. owo

Mort made fish lips for a moment, mouth attempting to form words without actually voicing any. A second attempt garnered, "E-Er, know you?"

Boy, that didn't sound right. He tried again.

"Have, um, h-have bad m-m-memory . . ." Though something about those watery red eyes made his brain tingle with familiarity just beyond his grasp.

...eh? Did he...just ask who she was? Chuppi felt her face pale for a moment before it burned an even brighter red, and she buried her expression into her hands. Did he not know who she was because she'd been so rude to him before, or was it because she'd changed so much? Wait, did she really change that much? Most, if not all, of her old clothes still fit her and she'd just picked one new outfit, so ....maybe this was all her fault. "I'm sorry I...thought ...you were someone else? Mort? The one I speak with on Groanspring, but I guess I could be mistaken."

It was plenty easy enough for Temes to take the blame all onto herself as though she were trying to ease the worry of others around her who may or may not have made a faux paus. Instead of saying anything more she reached her hands to take the books, small tears in the corners of her eyes and down her cheeks.

On Groanspring . . . Red eyes with tears . . . Those spines!

It finally clicked, and quite suddenly the ghoul was not the only one blushing. Well not really, Mort still wasn't capable of doing so (no real flow of blood and all), but it was written on his stunned expression nonetheless. The book were taken from him, but his hands retained that same position for several seconds before dropping.

"Chuppi . . .?"

And then one came up and rubbed the back of his neck in an embarrassed fashion. Sweet Sally, he'd said something very wrong. Again. Jack.

"Chuppi! I-It's Mort, yes! Sorrysorrysorrysorry," the zombie hastily replied. "Is good t-too s-s-see! Is j-just different. Didn't see well. M-Much prettyness, l-like dress."

"Ah...yes. I'm Chuppi." The monster placed the book atop the others and rubbed at her face, her mouth slightly open as she used the back of her hand to rub away a few strays from her eyes and cheeks. There was no point in getting crying, he was trying to apologize to her and he even said he remembered. Still, the initial shock of being forgotten was what had her nerves so in a bundle and she was breathing softly and slowly in an effort to calm down. "And...yes...it is good to see."

It was awkward now, her face was still red from the semi-cry, and she folded her hands together and let them drop at the level of her waist. What exactly was she supposed to say from here? She could talk about books, sure, but any and all conversation ideas she might have had were long gone.

Was he smiling? He should probably smile. SMILING NOW. "Look great!" Mort repeated, as if the first time wasn't enough; well who knew, maybe it wasn't. "D-Didn't recognize in dress is all. Have, um, h-have nice spines. N' curves."

As opposed to what, Mort? Her boxiness from before?

;A; Why couldn't he say anything right?

"U-Um . . ." The awkwardness was palpable. "Wanta hang, get food?" They still were on for some shakes after all, right?

"Ah yes, my quills did get much bigger all of a sudden. I...should probably ask mi madre to see if anything is happening." There was a chance that her sudden development of curves and longer quills meant she was entering puberty, but the Chupacabra wasn't likely to know that on her own. Her family didn't talk much about things like that, not to mention her older siblings avoided her and her younger ones were...younger, so it wasn't surprising she'd have no idea over what to do. "An...and this dress was given to me when I needed a new clothing. For some reason my other ones don't fit anymore or are ripped."

It didn't occur to her that maybe the same things that ripped her clothing were the reason for her new outfit. either way her ears perked up at the mention of food, and a thin but generally happy smile crossed her blushing face. "Shakes...sure. I could refill Termo while we are there. Do you know a place that can serve a blood shake?" After all this time she still hadn't given a shot at trying to eat anything that wasn't blood and it was all well and good. She didn't want to be sick.

"Mrrr. Casket Robbin' has brainfreezes n' other stuff. Bet would have bloody things too," Mort said, tapping his chin as he began to lead them out of the library. "A-Also eye scream if want. Lotsa sweets n' c-cold stuff."

As they walked through the halls, posters caught the zombie's eye. He snatched on in passing and looked it over. A . . . play? What kind of play was called The Cracker of Nuts? owo; "Lookie!" He showed it to Chuppi, as if she couldn't grab one on her own. "H-Have tryouts soon. Didn't know Amity had plays."

Though he probably should have figured by the newly rebuilt theater that something was gonna happen.

Oh Jack, that meant "Mr. Ringar" would probably be judging.

Oh Jack.

Casket Robbin. . . . Chuppi had never heard of a such a place (which wasn't too surprising) but she nodded her head anyway and looked over to her stack of books. Considering they were no longer in the library and not many people traveled the path she liked to take there was no danger for her to leave them where she'd set them. They'd be there when she got back or, if not, she could simply go again and retrieve them once more. No real challenge there.

"I have never had eye scream or a brainfreeze. Like I said, I only am able to drink sangre so, " She mostly trailed off, figuring it may not be worth trying to explain. Everyone had their own diets while at the school and hers happened to be something fresh and readily available. The last time Chuppi had thought she hadn't gone and paid for her food....ever, though maybe once or twice she did give money out of feeling bad. She was content to stay in her own thoughts when Mort's voice called out an announcement over play try-outs, and Chuppi waddled closer to the boil in order to see the note.

A school play? There had been one last year around this time too, a retelling of Hallowentown and how it had come to be, but Chuppi had not even attempted to try out for that. "We...have had one before since I have been here, but I was not. . . . ready for that. I did not try out." She neglected to mention that it was around that time last year that she started to panic and neglect everything involving life and general duties. "What does it say it is called? Or about, do you know?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 25, 2011 11:22 am

It took him a few moments of squinting to pass through the tiny text and what was scratched out in order to find the title: "The Cracker of Nuts," Mort read out. "Mrrr . . . Says has lots dancing. Lots candy. Sword fight. Romance. K-Kissing. Not much else." A musical, the poster said. Hmm . . .

"Wish could been there last year," he said upon hearing that there had been a previous play. One that was the foretelling of their ancestors even! Mortimer wondered what the days were like when Jack Skellington was Pumpkin King, and how the play had gone. It wasn't the sort that he would participate in, but would have liked to watch.

This one, though? Free kissing . . . sword fighting he might be bad at, dancing he might have some issues with, but free kissing. The poster did mention it could be with ghouls or boils, but if there was even the slightest chance he could hit first base with a ghoul without any extra social awkwardness . . . All he'd have to do was say "It was for the play!". No boilfriends or ghoulfriends to get in the way.

Could he conquer his innate nervousness and speech impediment, though? Mrrr . . .

Mortimer pondered as they left the academy and headed to the maul. "Want to try for this one," he eventually said with a small nod as if to confirm it to himself. "W-Would be fun. You try too, more fun!" The zombie rolled the post up and folded it into his pocket, opening the maul door for Chuppi. "Also, Casket Robbin' has blood stuff, is sure. If not, will look elsewhere!"

"Are you asking me to try out for the play with you?" Chuppi's cheeks burned a bright red, therefore turning them an awkward green, and the monster pulled her hands to her chin and interlocked her fingers. The thought of joining a school play, or attempting to even try out, seemed daunting considering her less than stellar actions with her previous acting class. Speaking of that she still needed to do her homework (such a thing was mentally filed away) but those thoughts were easily moved aside as she thought of what to do. "It does sound...interesting enough, and I do like dancing. Music and dancing are very fun." The whole bit about romance and kissing she could ignore for now because it went over her head and she didn't have high expectations.

"Um, should we...talk about this play then and try-outings? Over food maybe, or over walking. I am soon to start the track team again and should try to not look so out of shape. It might upset others wanting to come and join I think." Chuppi placed a hand on her stomach, her finger-claws lightly touching the fabric of the dress. Her cheeks were still very red from her decorative blush, and she found it a little hard to look Mort in the eye. Mostly because he was way taller than her, but still.

Mort patter her shoulder encouragingly, and by encouragingly he meant as carefully as he could without impaling his hand on one of her spines. "Will be funner this way," he assured, turning them into the food court. "Discuss with food, will make feel better!"

Oh, the food court. Every time he stepped in, the munchies were brought up within him! Perhaps he might grab something more than a brainfreeze here . . . For now, Mort directed his friend onward towards Casket Robbin' which, upon entering, the temperature immediately fell a good few degrees. He took a sniff.

Glorious. 83

"Lesee . . . Have brain flavor, blood flavor, rocky reaper," he read off. "Is milkshakes. Not tried blood before, but if brain is good, blood is good. Take pick of whatever, will pay!"

The attendant, a yeti ghoul with a name tag that read INDIRA, gave them a toothy smile.

Chuppi, being a naturally warm blooded creature, shivered against the cold the moment they entered the area. While her undead companion may have relished the change in temperate and the small in the air it brought about a harsh rising of her scales on her own skin as she gave a small shudder. That single blip was all it took though for her to regulate her core temperature enough to handle this. A summer dress was not good in places there was no...summer warmth. She would need to rethink her wardrobe if she were suddenly able to locate more than two pieces of clothing.

"I'd like a blood favor por favor. A mi me gusta sangre, so maybe this will taste just as good?" While she wouldn't be actually drinking blood of her own need, something flavored like it might just do the trick as well. The consistency would certainly be different, so would the temperature, and the monster admittedly was more than a little nervous to try this out. She wanted to tell Mort that if she got sick it wasn't his fault at all and not to worry, but wouldn't saying that ahead of time make it even worse? What was the phrase?

Mejor que decir lo siento que pedir Better to say sorry than to ask.

"And...thank you for paying." Chuppi had never been treated to a meal before like this, or even a snack, so it was strange. She and Charlie had made a pizza together once, but that was a different thing entirely. That didn't involve money, this did, and it made the Chupacabra a bit nervous.
