She had heard the story a few times now. People that had been minding their own business all turned into cats. Some of them were powered individuals, such as knights, senshi, and even the Negaverse. Others were just your ordinary everyday people.

So now ********* was trying to check in with as many of these new star-marked cats to make sure they were doing okay. She was compiling a list of the various stories in her mind so she could go back to the others with the piled up evidence that it was probably their fault this happened.

At the moment she was trotting along the sidewalk of a restaurant district, her nose easily getting teased by all of the scents of food (wonderful food). There were some places that had outdoor seating, which meant there were birds that tended to hop about on the ground, begging in their quiet manner for scraps of food to peck up. There was a particularly chubby small black bird lingering about a table that had just been abandoned.

However, ********* noticed the bird wasn't alone. There was a thin cat with a golden star upon its forehead stalking about behind it from under the table.

Rather than remain distanced and allow the other cat the easy meal, the round Manx trotted quite directly towards the other feline. The black bird easily fled the moment the small cat began to approach. Once safely under the table, she asked in a low, but friendly voice "So did you get turned into a cat like the others?"

********* wasn't greeted with a friendly face or a curious expression; instead she was met with a low hiss of frustration, Laoise's ears going back as she watched the bird retreat. It had been fascinating, pale blue feathers lined with brighter blue, catching the sunlight this close to earth when it would have disappeared in the bright sky.

She wasn't amused, or pleased, and the question added to her frustration. Yellow-green eyes narrowed as she looked the chubby little cat over, rising out of her predator's crouch to arch her back, to emphasize her own comparative height. Lee cocked her head to peer down her nose, long tail thrashing and winding in around her legs.

"Turned into a cat?" Her tone was scornful as she took two paces to circle the other cat, haughty and annoyed. It was also, just faintly, accented -- touched with something strange. "I think not. I, at least, am a proper cat. Better than can be said for some of us here, who drive away the pretty feathers..."

Despite the hissing of the other cat, the little manx cat seemed to remain quite chipper. She kept to her paws, getting a vibe that her presence was not welcome here. If she sat down, then that meant the other cat could flee quicker.

As the other cat began to circle her, ********* owlishly attempted to turn her head to follow, but found that her neck was not nearly as flexible as the wide-eyed birds. "Well then, if you were not turned into a cat... that means..." There was a faint pause in her voice as she continued to try to watch the other cat's movements. Once she had to turn her head in the other direction, she finished off her statement. "...you are a proper Mauvian. Oh goodness... you must be pretty new if you don't know what happened." This cat definitely had not been there for the failed attempt at using that machine to go back to their past home world.

Still keeping up a very pleasant tone to contrast with the less-than-thrilled tone the other feline was taking, the slightly rounder animal offered an introduction. "My name is *********, by the way... I am certain you have one as well, otherwise I might have to start calling you 'Hey you!'" The cat paused and leaned down slightly with her upper body, almost as if she was trying to mimic a sort of bow.

Lee's mouth shifted, frowning, scowling at the little cat who damnit knew something that she didn't -- and she drew to a halt, finally, sitting up straight. She really was rather tall, looking more like a wildcat than a stray housecat, feathers crooked and sloppy around her neck. Definitely not the sort who'd have anything to do with a hat.

"...*********. I am Laoise." The tip of her tail twitched, but just the tip, most of it restrained. She thought she looked better with that lean tail wrapped around her feet, and appearances were everything. "What, exactly, is going on?"

Pushing her body back up to standing, ********* continued to smile towards the other cat. "It is a pleasure, Laoise!" The other cat seemed to have settled in for the topic at hand, so the smaller of the pair also allow her haunches to lower until she was seated. Her green eyes easily were focused in on the other cat's yellow-green eyes, because now it was conversation time.

"Well, the other Mauvians and myself had been working on a machine to take us back to the world of Mau. We tried it out, but it didn't work..." She paused to roll her shoulder which still was faintly sore from being thrown across the room after that blast of energy. "I suspect it might have caused some of the people to turn into cats... I've encountered several already, and their stories seem to line up time-wise with when we used our machine..."

********* lifted up a paw and licked at it before wiping it over the back of her head. "I've been trying to gather up more evidence before I go back to HQ to report this... but that's what's going on currently. I apologize for assuming you were one of the people-turned-feline... but you have to admit, your timing was uncanny!"

********* got silence in reply, Laoise still frowning at her, paws tensing and relaxing as she dug at the ground -- a thoughtful, nervous little habit. It was possible, she considered, that this small bouncy cat was entirely out of her mind. After all, building a space ship to Mau seemed impractical at best. It did, however, also sound intriguing, and if it perked her interest that easily...

"When did this happen?" Another clench, her nails tearing through grass and dirt, drawn in a sharp line toward her. "Was it just a few days ago? I didn't...I didn't remember miself until just a few days ago..."

The manx set her paw down and tilted her head at the other larger feline as she took her time to speak up again. And when she did decide to speak up again, ********* easily replied in a teasing tone "Goodness, why so serious, Laoise?" She giggled in an airy manner, as if to let the newer Guardian know that it was okay to smile slightly.

Not even bothered by the scratching against the ground, ********* continued onto the more serious subject. "Now that you mention it... that sounds about right. Perhaps that was a coincidence... or not... I'm not about to assume one way or another on this subject." That was definitely something that would need to be reported as well. If the machine was responsible for awakening another of their kind, it was possible others were given the wake-up call as well. Of course, it was just a hypothesis, not a conclusion.

"So do tell me... how much of yourself and your duties did you remember? Do you need a refresher course?" The manx wasn't aware of it, but she was leaning in almost subconsciously closer to the other cat, almost as if she was starting to stick her face in the other cat's face.

If ********* wasn't utterly clueless [which was, potentially, asking a lot] she'd notice the way that Laoise's eyes narrowed as she leaned in, the way the taller cat tensed up slowly, the tip of her tail going twitch, twitch, twitch once again. They were the same kind of movements someone might use when gathering to leap, preparing to strike. One paw even tensed and curled against the ground.

One inch closer, and Lee would smack her solidly on that nose. Just one inch.

For now, though, she shook her head, tipping it slightly to one side and leaning back away from ********* to give herself some room.

"Ah. I remember...pens?" That probably meant that, yes, she needed at least some sort of refresher.

"Well, that's a good starting point!" Now having something to build off of, ********* seemed to lean back a bit instead of forward.

"As Guardians, we are meant to locate senshi that have not had their powers awakened yet. They are just everyday people until we manage to find them. It's like... hmmm..."

There was a brief pause as she attempted to find a way to describe the feeling into words.

"...It's like for a brief second or two, you know that a person who is a complete stranger to you is a senshi. If you concentrate, you can come up with the name that corresponds with their starseed." Despite how some senshi seemed to think it, the cat's didn't just come up with the names out of their asses. No, the names were in sync with the starseed in the senshi's chest.

The manx then stood herself up to all four paws again, then backed up slightly. "Once you find an unawakened senshi, you need to give them their henshin pen so that the senshi can call on their power to transform. They are the lock and you are the key to unlocking their true potential. You should also give them a senshi cell phone as well... it's just easier that way too."

Rather suddenly, the small animal did a back flip. It wasn't exactly graceful or that high off the ground. It just seemed small and almost mechanical, like one of those motorized dog toys. "There are many ways to summon the items, but I tend to find that doing a flip is one of the easier ways." There were other ways she had managed to do such in the past, but they were highly impractical in comparison. Henshin pens did not make good fur balls.

"You give them their pen and phone, you tell them the henshin phrase... and make sure they say it with energy and feeling. It doesn't work if they don't put their all into it. It's helpful if you tell them what their magic ability is too... some of the senshi aren't as quick on the uptake as others..."

There was a pause before ********* trotted next to Laoise again and sat her haunches down. "A lot of the information should probably just be stuff that pops to mind. It just kinda comes to you at that very moment."
PostPosted: Tue Nov 29, 2011 11:01 am

While ********* spoke, Laoise's expression was sharply focused, taking in all the details. Amused, perhaps, by the backflip -- but in general, she was paying attention. It was only as the small cat approached again, apparently done with the explanation, that Lee's started to go distant again, her features carefully arranged into a bored and haughty mask. She was putting on airs.

"Oh, that." Her voice was pitched to match, one paw raised in a somewhat dismissive way. She straightened off her haunches to arch her back, as if preparing to go.

"Of course I remembered that.." Except that she hadn't. Not the exact details. It rang a bell, yes, awakened old memories of girls in flirty skirts, of young men in sharp-edged military uniforms, a bad taste in the back of her mouth, but no, Lee hadn't had a grasp on the details. That didn't mean she'd ever admit it, though.

"Perhaps I should be checking in at this headquarters, though..."

********* couldn't help but giggle slightly. "Yes, indeed. That." Attitude never seemed to be much of an issue for the manx. Laoise reminded ********* of Zirconia slightly. They weren't the same, but they seemed to have appearances to uphold.

Rather than offer the answer in a straight manner, she had to ask the cat who was preparing to leave "Do you know where HQ is?"
PostPosted: Tue Nov 29, 2011 11:20 am

That made her pause, eyes narrowed again, tail slowly winding and thrashing behind her -- annoyed, and obviously so. She shot a look around, turned in place, and then came back to focus on *********.

"...I seem to have gotten turned around. If you point me in the right direction..." Still, still she couldn't just come out and say 'no'. And Laoise's expression made it fairly clear that, if ********* pointed this out, there would be hell to pay.

If it was possible for a feline to smirk, the smaller of the pair was doing such at the moment. It wasn't exactly a very clever cover in all honesty for her lack of knowledge on the location of the HQ. It was transparent. If she was more like Ellie, she would have easily called the other cat out on it.

However, fortunately for the feather adorned cat, ********* had a bit more control over her tongue than that silly human.

"If you can find Destiny Tower... then you'll be close... you need a key to get in... but it would be kind of hard for a fellow Mauvian to lose such a key." Unless one corrupted or lost their head, it was hard to misplace the star upon his or her own head. Since Laoise seemed to be preparing to leave, the manx stood up to her paws again.

"I guess we should get on our ways... I still need to look into this situation with the fake cats..." There was a pause before she genuinely offered "It was a pleasure meeting you, Laoise! Don't be a stranger!"

Lee frowned at *********, staring her down for another moment before she turned to go. The problem was that she wasn't sure how earnest the help was, how honest the good wishes. Was there a twitch of condescension behind ********* directions to headquarters? Was the small cat mocking her, in some way? Or was she just projecting her own thoughts and habits...

"I'll see you there, then, perhaps." It came with a sniff, Laoise flicking her tail up to saunter away from *********. Maybe it would take her hours to locate Destiny Tower, even longer from there to find the hidden headquarters of her Mauvian peers, but there was no chance in hell that she was going to ask for more detailed directions.
