Chaonis leaped from the top of one roof to the next, as he very often did. Ever since discovering how fun it could be when he first powered up, he had never lost interest in the running and leaping. Maybe it was just the physical exertion he liked.

There was always some thrill in it, even though he knew he would land safely, every time. That probably explained why he now picked harder targets to land on, or ran faster into the jumps.

Whatever he could to keep that danger up, while still having fun.

He was leaping from a fairly high building now, and hadn't actually even looked before he did so. He ended up falling a good long way, and landing hard on a canopy that was not built for landing hard on. He fell through it and landed hard on the floor below.

That had certainly been thrilling, but certainly not what he had been planning on doing.

And now his legs were hurting from the landing. Sitting on his knees he was waiting to catch his breath. Hopefully no one had seen him do something that stupid, as he would be very grumpy if that were the case.

If the slow, steady click of heels behind him was any indication, someone had definitely seen his nasty fall.

"Graceful." It was a female's voice, amused and curious at the same time. The heels continued to click until a fledgling senshi stood next to him where he was squatting on the ground. She was all drapes and sashes, with a close cut bob of citrus hair. The pink eyes beneath her bangs roamed over what little she could see of him, until they landed on the wings sprouting from the back of his fuku.

"Wings?" Her pale brows drew down into a deep V, wracking her brain over things that she had drilled Diana about. When she finally found the answer it showed, like she had a secret she was going to blurt out and could only stop by pursing her lips.

She circled him again with another round of soft clicks, until she stood in front of him, gazing down at him where he crouched. "An eternal?"

"Well, I'm not the senshi of grace," he grunted, dusting himself off. His butt wings were unharmed, off course, and his armor would prevent him from suffering any bruises from the long fall. Not that he felt he would have been hurt even without the protection: he was a senshi, after all. They could take hits, especially stupid ones.

And that had been stupid.

He looked at the senshi, having sensed her aura and at least noting she was not an enemy. He got to his feet slowly, disentangling himself from the remains of the canopy he had destroyed. Property damage was the last of his concerns. If he had any of those at all.

"You got it. And from the looks of you and that stupid question, I imagine you're a newbie. You look like a newbie."

He wanted to divert attention away from his fall as quickly as possible. He stood tall, arms folded over his chest as if they were built to be that way, rather than at his sides. He looked at her with his keen, dark eyes, a crooked grin on his face as he took stock.

She didn't look like much to him, but newbie senshi rarely did. Actually, when he thought about it, he had come across very few senshi of any rank that he actually stopped to think 'wow, impressive' about on first glance. He had been proven wrong many times, though. And he almost liked it when he was.

She watched him with interest as he slowly rose, studying someone that she had come to recognize as a power far greater than her own. That in itself was intriguing to her and warranted her continued attention. Even his attitude was a clue to the set up of a hierarchy she was just beginning to unravel - it seemed that advancement didn't require many virtues.

She smiled politely, if quite falsely, up at him. Her own hands shifted to set comfortably on her hips, the sashes attached to her wrists hanging low down by her sides with the motion. She didn't bat an eyelash at his insult, though the rigidity of her body was a clue that she didn't take to it kindly either.

"There's no such thing as a stupid question," an old proverb that slipped easily from her lips in defense of herself, "especially from a newbie's perspective." Her eyes drifted away from him, to the canopy in tatters at their feet and then up, to where she guessed he had originally fallen. His mistake was certainly not going to just vanish in her mind. It was a mistake, behind which there was probably a flaw. That flaw might be useful to her at some point if he was really a key player in the underground war.

"How long have you been a senshi?" Her eyes dropped back to his the second she asked her question, seemingly unconcerned with formalities.

The Eternal Senshi of Danger let his embarrassment fade into a lingering, steady anger, or irritation, something he could use without making it too clear that he was embarrassed at all. At least, in his mind that was how it would work.

He wasn't so dumb as to think people wouldn't figure out why he was acting out, but then, if he cared about things like that he would certainly not be the same person. And where was the fun in that? Chaonis was very aware of how his bad habits, bad attitude, and various other bad things spoke to his 'true' nature, and gave psychological sorts a whole lot of fodder to guess about him with, but he didn't really care.

"A while," he said, trying to sound like he was just being vague. But he took a moment to pause and think about it. How long had it been? A year at the very least, he realized.

Damn.

"Maybe a year. What about you? Three whole minutes? Four?" He wasn't exactly the man about town and he definitely didn't know every senshi there ever was, but he could tell she was at the base level senshi came in, and of course she had all but said it so he really wasn't figuring anything out at all. Still, he folded his arms over his chest and grinned at her, tilting his head to the side.

"Maybe a week," she retorted, though her ability to remain apathetic was slowly beginning to wane. If he didn't have any information then she certainly didn't have any use for him. She wasn't going to stand around all night just to watch his cocky grin.

Resisting the urge to add an even more snarky comment to her retort, she turned her back on him and glanced around the buildings for any sign of a fire escape. Maybe she could convince him to try and make the jump again so she could see it first hand. Either way she'd know what level of strength she had to look forward to eventually.

"How long have you been an eternal?" It wasn't hard to see where she was going with the question. Ever since she had been awakened she had been trying to break her senshidom down into a formula. She glanced back at him and then, with a very slight quirk of one brow, brought her own arms up to cross over her chest. The sashes between her wrists and bow stretched out long with the motion, making it look more complicated than it was.

Chaonis watched her, taking stock. It was always a good idea, and least for him, to annoy the hell out of everyone he met. Finding their limits, their buttons, and their reactions were all key insights into how a person operated when they weren't angry. Or so it was justified in his head.

At her question about how long he had been an eternal he took a breath and looked up, as if counting in his head. And he was, actually, not just pretending to be.

"Maybe five months," he said with a nod. Give or take. Time had flown, though. He couldn't really believe it, but hearing it out loud made it seem more accurate. Still, he had been having fun every moment so far. Well, almost every moment. He could do without his friends getting hurt, and those times when he lost some fights.

But other than that, being an Eternal senshi was great.

"You're sure interested in time. You do know that you power up when you're ready, right?" He was mostly just defending his own pride, as he felt he should have been this strong right off the bat but he hadn't been, obviously. "Why are you in a hurry to get to be an Eternal? And how do you know so much about it already?" When he was a week old as a senshi, he had no idea there were supers out there, much less eternals or that he would get stronger that way.

When he found his answer she nodded, filing it away in her head without so much as a 'thank you'. She heard his comment about 'being ready' but by the look on her face she certainly didn't believe him. Everything had an equation, everything could be broken down into specific requirements and limitations. She had to believe that if she was going to set a goal for herself.

"Being ready has to revolve around time somehow." A small, amused smile spread across her lips then and she shrugged a little. "I'll ask the next eternal I meet, just to make sure you weren't a senshi prodigy. Research is never concrete unless you can reproduce the results." And yet her goal was already set - if he could do it, so could she, prodigy or not.

"Oh, I have a guardian cat at home resting off some injuries," she uncrossed one arm long enough to wave her hand at the idea, "she can't really do anything but lay around so I make the most of it. She's quite insightful." Then she dropped both of her hands and let the sashes fall back into place. She didn't really feel like continuing to play the peacock game with him.

"Why wouldn't I want to be an eternal? It comes with more power, among other things."

Chaonis arched his eyebrow.

If there was one thing he was not interested in at all (there were many, many things, of course), it was math. Any kind of math or school-y thing. He was not interested in the very idea of a formula because that word meant something mathy. Why waste your time with that, when you could just be breaking youma faces and getting the job done that way?

If only school had featured more classes about punching. He might have done better. Or stayed in it longer than he had.

When she mentioned wanting power he seemed to perk up, like she needed to speak key words just for him to register what she was saying. He balled his hand into a loose fist and punched her in the shoulder 'lightly'. His version of it, anyway.

"Why didn't you say you wanted power off the bat? If you want to be strong, you've found the right guy. Lucky you." he grinned at her broadly, and rather devilishly. Only his pure aura was ringing 'good guy' at the moment, though he was actually being serious and not setting any sort of trap. Per se. "You look like you could do with some training."
PostPosted: Tue Dec 20, 2011 8:26 pm

Well, at least she had found the magical password to his interest.

A frown turned down the corners of her mouth momentarily as he punched her, a bit harder than she would have liked, in the shoulder. She shifted with the motion and then brought a hand up to rub lightly at the skin where he'd made contact. She wasn't a very handsy person, apparently.

But she had his attention and that was all she needed in that moment. Next time he took liberties with her personal space, she might find an issue.

"Yes," she said slowly, as if she were choosing the way to say her next words, "I guess I could use the training, being so new to this and all. Being a Senshi is nothing like any other physical sport I've ever participated in." Which numbered among the few, though she would never say so. She was much more a thinker than a doer.

Hesitant, but trusting that he had to know what he was doing if he'd managed to rank up so far, she spread her hands a little in an accepting gesture. "I'm pleased that you're so willing, eh, what is your name?" A brow raised at the question, as if it were a casual inquiry, though any information gathering was hardly 'casual' to Midas.

"Lemme guess," he said, looking her over skeptically, "quarterback, right?"

He grinned at her, folding his arms over his chest out of habit and because he thought it made him look cool. Confident and very much like a douche, but cool as well. He wasn't too picky, in the end, about what others thought of him so long as they knew that he had the skill to back up his boasts.

"Chaonis. Senshi of Danger."

So the deal was sealed. She had agreed to training. Of course, she hadn't said right that moment, but that was just some minor detail that didn't really matter to Chaonis at all. Details rarely did. He took a beat, then a devilish grin split his face and he moved toward her, dropping his arms and bringing one back.

"Let's see what your foot work looks like!" He said, giving her fair warning of the oncoming swing to her face.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 29, 2011 4:08 pm

"How witty," she remarked dryly, raising one brow at his attempted joke. Quarterback, indeed. Even if his joke had missed, his introduction had not, and she was holding out one hand to introduce herself in turn.

"Midas, senshi of-" but his smirk and sudden movement caught her off guard and she never finished. If he hadn't been so obvious, she might have never noticed, but by the time he was swinging at her face she had managed a stunned stumble backwards and a small sideways step that left her facing him at a ninety degree angle.

It had not been a very graceful dodge, but it was a dodge all the same.

"Hey!" Her lips were pursed and her brows were drawn down, giving him a look of complete disapproval. Yet her hands were up in a more guard-like position and her body was tensed like she was ready to move. No more surprises.

"Hey, what?" Chaonis said, turning to follow her as she stepped out of his swing. He had to give her credit for getting out of the way, since he wasn't looking for grace. Just effectiveness. Sure, he had given her some hints but she still needed some speed.

He followed after her, seeing her guard and pulling one fist back as if to punch her high again, in the face or that area. He had his other arm low, for an upper cut or a punch to her gut. His stance was all attack: he left no room for defending himself but he didn't need to at the moment. He had the upper hand, if someone asked him, and he had the momentum of his building speed to work with.

"You said you wanted to train, right?"

His grin didn't go anywhere as he charged her.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 05, 2012 7:35 pm

"Yes, but this isn't-"

She didn't even get to finish before he was charging at her. Her bright eyes swept up to the hand he had pulled up at eye level, then flickered to the one that he was holding down lower. Her hands shifted, her body tried to make her block two punches at once, and in the end it meant that she wasn't fully invested in either guard.

When he came at her, when he finally closed in and chose which punch to throw, she was going to be completely open. The only thing she managed to do before he closed in completely was squint and brace herself for her failure.

Chaonis saw his opening and grinned. Not wanting to break her face, being generous if one asked him, he grabbed her blocking arm with the fist that had been coming for her face. He pulled her just to break her guard further as his lower hand connected with her gut. He didn't hold much back.

He didn't want to hurt her badly and leave her crippled for any future encounters with actual enemies, but this was also a learning experience, wasn't it? What lesson could one learn if there was no pain involved?

That was how he learned everything, anyway. The hard way.

He released her and shoved her sideways. He didn't follow through for more attacks, though he was sure he could have. Instead, he would let her stumble or fall, or whatever it was she felt she needed to do. Hopefully she didn't barf on him.

"Yeah, you definitely need some help. You and I are going to get to know each other pretty well." He grinned at her. She had no choice in the matter now: she had acquired a Chaonis, and they were hard to get rid of no matter how hard one tried.
