Since she had woken from her long sleep in the pods; Kat had yet to actually have a chance to explore Deus Ex Machina at all. The most she had been too was the cafeteria--something that definitely lacked in good coffee. With no real assignments or chores to follow up on, Kat decided now was probably a good time to get acquainted with this place. Now the question was: where too first?
She had no map of this place, and sense in where to go and where to stay clear of. Which made her wonder..was their places off limits to trainees like herself? The idea of walking into a restricted zone and..she figured it would end in something like that Sahara mission, where the woman got cracked in the jaw by Caelius. Better not to have that happen. What she needed, was a tour guide.
Handing back for a moment, she took a seat on the stairs, watching as hunters and trainees hurried on by..all of them looked to be busy today. Finding a guide would be harder than she thought. It was like she was the only person in this whole place that didn't have to be somewhere today..unless--she didn't miss any announcements, messages or anything--did she?
Just to be sure, she whipped out her phone and checked for any messages she may have missed, only to snap the phone shut with a sigh of relief. Nothing. Well..now what?

Ariane didn't like having free time - or rather, she didn't like having 'free time' when everyone else was busy. It made her feel like a bum, like she should be productive rather than wandering around campus without a real goal in mind.
'Maybe later.'
She strolled past hunters who seemed to be in a hurry somewhere, humming to herself as she played with the edge of her scarf. She then stopped suddenly, her gaze landing on a girl sitting on the stairs who looked like she had nothing to do as well... Perfect. After scowling at a hunter who had bumped into her without apologizing, Ariane grinned and made her way towards the girl-she-had-never-seen before, wondering if she was a new trainee or a seasoned hunter; probably the former, judging from her lack of things to do.
"Hey," Her grin widened as she took a seat beside her, on the same step, "Waiting for someone?"

It was truly amazing to see how fast some of these hunters maneuvered through the halls and past people to get to their destination. Some, however, were not as careful..as she witnessed one collide right into another female hunter without so much as an apology. Nice.. Well, if this place was known for anything, she doubted it would be known for manners.. But still..you at least think they would stop to say sorry. Snapping out of her thoughts, she realized the woman who she had been watching before was now sitting beside her. When did she--?
:Perhaps you need to pay closer attention. Geez..:
Turning to the huntress beside her, she offered a smile. She was an interesting looking woman. "Hi there." Smiling, she shook her head when asked if she was waiting for someone else to show. "Nope. Well..no one in particular anyways. I'm actually looking to get a tour of this place, since, well..don't want to end up in a restricted area and have my head chopped off or blown off by my superiors.." The idea of it made her shudder. "Don't suppose you'd be interested in showing me about? If you don't have any other plans that is?"

"Well, maybe if you had offered your name first," She grinned before chuckling, shaking her head in a dismissive manner, making it hard to tell if she was joking or not. She leaned back slightly, extending out a hand towards her in greeting, "Ariane. From the sound of things, you've not been here long?"
After all, she had just asked for a tour of the facility.
"I would be glad to do it," She continued on, looking thoughtful as her grin widened, "In fact, I'll bring you to one of my favorite places here - The Petting Zoo."

Did she not give her name already? "Oh!" Hopping up from where she sat, she smacked herself on the forehead. "My bad. Ahem--" Moving into a mock bow, "I, am Katherine Taylor." she grinned, straitening herself out again. "Pleased to meet you, Ariane." Taking the woman's hand into her own, she gave it a shake before releasing it again. "Yeah..the other hatchlings and I only recently awoke from our..uh..pods I guess you would call them. Haven't really had the chance to explore and meet people yet."
Rubbing at the back of her neck, she focused her gaze on some hunters hurrying on down the hall. "Is everyone usually in a hurry like this?" She asked. Not that she was complaining. She preferred things to be a little more speedy.
Turning her attention back to Ariane as she spoke; a smile spread across her lips. "Awesome!" Finally! A bit of luck! Though, what did she mean by 'petting zoo'? "Ehh? Petting zoo? This place has one?"

"Pleased to meet you, Katherine," She grinned, returning the handshake before standing up, dusting down her coat before chuckling and raising an eyebrow, "Well, I hope you get settled in soon... Missions are actually a great way to meet people, dangerous as they are. I guess it's just the way things work around here."
She turned to momentarily gaze at the hunters in the hallway before shrugging, "I guess it depends...? It's been a little busy nowadays, I'm guessing it might be due to the most recent mission. Then again, I don't think this place ever slows down." They could hardly afford to, after all, since they were somehow saving the world.
"HA, well, the name is a little misleading," She smirked, stroking her chin with a thoughtful look on her face, "You'll know when you get there... It's part of the Life division, at the labs."

"And you, Ariane." It was surprising actually. With so many people in this facility, you'd think she'd have met, or talked to more people now, but nope. All the people she knew, she could count on one hand. It was pretty sad when she thought about it. "I'll say." She laughed, tapping her shoe against the ground to wake her foot up. "Ow--yeah, its pretty much how I met the people I already know here." Gotta love missions. Time for bonding and running like hell from s**t.
"Really? Never?" Then again, it wasn't all surprising really. She imagined this place to be moving twenty-four seven. "How long have you been here, anyways?" From what it sounded, Ariane had been here a long time already, and she was a little envious about it. She would love to be past all this new girl crap, and get to know the ropes kind of thing. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Okay--yeah. The last thing she would imagine this place to have, was a petting zoo. But how was she supposed to know? Good Job Kat. Mentally smacking herself, she gave an uneasy laugh.
Wait--did she say labs? She wasn't sure if she would like the idea of going into the labs. It was the kind of place she would never dare to go to. Ever. But for now, she would trust in Ariane, and follow her. Besides..she was a little curious to see why it was deemed one of her favorite places. "Alright then. Lead on."

"I'm guessing there's the day shift and the night shift," She laughed, grinning as she leaned on the railing, "You can't really expect to sleep when you are apparently defender of all mankind or some s**t." Kill the creatures of Halloween, save someone by allowing them to sleep better at night, right? Heh.
"I was from the batch of trainees before yours," She replied, gesturing for the woman to follow as she headed back the way she came, through the throngs of people walking to and fro the different parts of the island, "So not very long, actually... There are still a lot of questions that I would love an answer to."
The higher-ups don't seem to tell them everything, and it was reaching that point where it was almost annoying.
"But eh, you dig for intel, or you just deal with it," She shrugged, "How are you coping with life here, anyway?"

Hopping down the steps, careful of her one foot still half asleep, Kat stopped and turned to face Ariane again. "I guess that's true." After witnessing creatures like the one from the Sahara mission, it was obvious someone had to be there to stop them. And that's where Deus Ex Machina came in.
She was actually surprised to find that Araine was from the group of hunters before her. So she was one of the 'strays' then? "Oh?" She blinked, before continuing. "Do you think you'll ever get the answers you want?" If one thing she's realized about this place, it was that not everyone was willing to answer your questions. Well..at least some of them.
Nodding, she would have to do a little digging of her own later. "I'm coping alright I guess. The coffee isn't too good around here. I think that's my only complaint so far, but that's not really anything important."

"I wonder," She simply replied with a brief shrug, looking almost wistful as she continued on her way, going against the current; she wasn't sure if she wanted all the answers. As much as she liked to think that they were doing mankind a favor, it did not mean that this organization was not shady... After all, just take a look at its leaders; the two she had met were complete assholes who always seem to just want results, no matter the cost.
"The coffee?" She echoed, looking mild amused as she laughed, "I see... Have you ever wondered where we get our supplies from? I don't think they would deploy a helicopter or something just to make sure that we get coffee in the morning..." She might just be teasing, but it was hard to tell, since her back was facing the new trainee; if she was observant though, she might had noticed the grin on Ariane's face.
As they approached the labs, she slowed down, no longer needing to battle with other people just to walk; the hallways were surprisingly empty, but it was a nice change from the hustle and bustle they were experiencing just a moment ago. Soon, Ariane stopped at a closed door with a sign in front of it.
Petting Zoo
"Here we are~" Her grin widened just a tad as she pushed the door open, taking a few steps in before using her body to keep the door open. She gestured inside, where there were rolls and rolls of who could be called 'cages', but with glass display windows. Inside, some minipets stirred, sensing that they had visitors; all in all, it might sound like a pet shop or animal shelter.

Trailing after Ariane, she watched her surroundings as they walked. This was probably the best way to remember where everything was. By following the death hunter, she at least where she was allowed to go this way. Letting out a laugh when she spoke, Kat nodded, and folded her arms behind her head while walking. "Yeah, that's true."
Noting Ariane's pace slow, Kat came to a stop behind her, dropping her hands back down at her side. Curiously peeking around her, she blinked.
Oh! They were here! Stepping closer, she took a look inside the room. Standing there in awe for a moment, she finally managed to move inside the room and take a look at some of the minipets inside their class cages. "They're so tiny!" Holding back a small squeal of delight at the sight of the small critters, she turned to face Ariane again. "Where did they all come from?"

"Halloween," She replied simply, tapping the glass of one of the cages containing her personal favorite - a minipet known as a foxfire. The minipet tilted its head, allowing its tongue to roll out of its mouth before licking the glass, "Some of them are pretty cute, but some of them are rather... Well, take it from me when I say avoid the dolls and ones with tentacles."
Ugh, dolls... Creepy things.
"I guess you may pet them, but don't take it out of the cage," She instructed, remembering Clarice's warning about them melting rather than dying instantly, when taken out of their container for too long, "They're pretty affectionate."

"Halloween? Really? These are Halloween critters?" Raising her brows, Kat looked back to the tanks, almost awing over the critters inside the tanks. The foxfire was adorable--and Kat didn't even like dogs. Pressing her hand to the glass where the foxfire licked, she grinned. "dolls and tentacles? That--what?"
Okay, Halloween critters were odd. "How are dolls even pets?" Weren't they just..dolls? Or were they alive as well? Creepy..
"Really? I'm allowed?" She had to admit, she was itching to reach in and stroke the foxfire's fur. He looked so soft and adorable. Probably one of the only dogs she would like, if she was allowed to take him home with her--which she wasn't. "Okay." Opening the glass cage, she was careful not to let the small dog like critter loose while she reached over to pet it. "What are they here for anyways? Observation?"

"Honestly? I am not sure... Never bothered to ask since what they do here is not really my business since it's my my faction," She looked at the foxfire that the trainee was patting, noting how happy and contented the thing looked as it wagged its fluffy tail, even though it was trapped away from home, in a glass cage. She paused, offering her a shrug as she laughed, "Not sure I want to know though." Some things were best left a mystery.
"They came from Halloween, but these are just the pets," She explained, before walking over to over of the cages and waving Katherine over, "Here is a doll minipet... It looks like a normal doll, right?"
The doll sitting inside the cage did not move, but you couldn't help but feel that its eyes were staring at you.

Giving a simple nod when she answered her question, Kat couldn't help but think of what it was they might do with all these little critters. She hoped it was just observation like she had mentioned..but somehow, she doubted it. "Hmm..Not sure I do either.." Patting the foxfire on the head, she pulled her hand out of the cage and closed the cage door. Hopefully, this little guy would still be around later if she decided to come back to visit.
Laboratories..damn they were creepy places to be..
"Just the pets?" Did they have other Halloween creatures about or something? If so, what could they be?
Following Ariane over to the another cage when signaled to come, Kat peered into the cage to find one of the dolls she spoke of. It didn't move or anything, but something told her it was definitely alive and aware. "Damn--that's creepy.."
