The Orchard The Orchard is the place where all of the apples are grown and many young children work in the orchard most days.

≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Rielle Irie Swanson District Eleven ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ "C'mon, Winnie. Stop goofing around."I said calmly to my little sister, who was joyfully skipping around the tree we were supposed to be collecting apples from. I knew she was young, and I loved her very much, but she really needed to calm down and get to work. I didn't need her getting in trouble, or worse, shot. The Peacekeepers here weren't the most merciful people in the world, and it would devastate me if something had ever happened to my sister.
"Aw...but Rie...I wanna play." She complained, her skipping coming to a halt in front of the tree. I smiled. "I know you do, but it's not playtime right now. Why don't you climb up into the tree and find me some nice apples. I'll make your favorite for dinner." I tempted her, and I could see her eyes light up at the thought of squirrel stew. I watched as she climbed up into the tree, making sure to be underneath her in case she lost her footing, but I doubted that would happen. My sister was quite the climber.
I went back to work after a moment, picking apples from a tree right next to the one she was in. "Is this a good one, Rielle?" She asked me, holding out the biggest apple that I had ever seen. Another smile formed on my face. "It's perfect, lovey. Good job!" I congratulated her. She gave me a huge smile at my approval and went back to picking. I gave a relieved sigh. My sister was doing well on her first day of work... ≎≎≎Mood:Relieved≎≎≎Location:Orchard≎≎≎Inventory:Apples≎≎≎

District 11 ☮ Blake Erin Chamberlain ☮ I smile in delight when I see the Swanson sisters talking. I've always wanted a sibling, but I don't know how to ask my parents. How are they made anyways?
The branches beneath my feet are sturdy. No one could believe that I can climb such heights. Or speak more excellently than a twelve year-old should. I start to leap from tree to tree, my arms flowing behind my back. I'll need to collect enough apples. I wouldn't want to be punished by the peacekeepers.
I start to collect apple by apple and place them into my backpack. Some of them are still growing, so I don't really want to grab those. I repeat this routine every time I jump from tree to tree. This is something I've learned by observing a few birds flying in the trees. Part of it is my weight, but I could never fly as elegantly as they can.
When I'm done, I carefully climb down from my tree. My backpack is full. I'm sure that the peacekeepers will be pleased. There's one nearby that is leaning on the trunk of a tree. I walk over to the man and hand him my backpack. I cant stop the smile that escapes my lips. I'm pretty pleased with myself until I'm ordered to pick more. The man empties my backpack and places the apples in a nearby basket. He checks off something on his clipboard and tells me to keep working. I turn my back, a sad expression in my face. Whatever I do never seems to be enough.

≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Winslow Liana Swanson District Eleven ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Quickly growing bored of apple picking, I noticed one of the other kids I've seen around the district, and quickly climb down the tree, my sister giving me a curious look.
"I wanna help Blake. Can I?" I asked her, bouncing in pace impatiently. My sister looked down the row of apple trees at the boy, wondering who I was referring to. "Fine, but I'm coming with you. Someone's gotta make sure you're working." She said to me, hefting up the basket of apples we were collecting. I gave her a big smile and took off running towards the boy. Perhaps I'd make a new friend today!
Once I had approached the tree Blake was in, I gave him a bright smile and waved. "Hi Blake! Can I help you?" I asked, my voice bouncing with exuberance. My sister was a few feet away at another tree, curiously watching our encounter, and gave me a look that meant that I should start picking apples, which I quickly started doing while awaiting Blake's response.

District 11 ☮ Blake Erin Chamberlain ☮ When I begin to fill my bag with more apples, a voice finds me. It's Winslow! I've always seen her around in school. She's in the same grade as me and has always been nice to me. I'm happy when she offers to help, but I'm also worried. "Um, sure. But . . . don't you need to pick your own apples?" I don't want her to get in trouble with the Peacekeepers. They're scary. Rielle stands behind Winslow, however. Maybe she's going to make sure she works as well. I immediately dismiss my question and smile at the older sister.
Winslow and I begin to pick apples together. She helps me fill my bag while I pick apples above the trees for her. She can climb just as high as me, but I'd rather do it for her instead. Just to show that I appreciate her company. When I'm back on the floor, I start to thank her with a smile. "Thanks, Winslow!" I also thank her sister. After that, I'm not sure what to do next. I'm awkwardly kicking away grass with my feet, by hands behind my back. "Well, I should take these apples to the Peacekeepers." I say. "But before I do that, do you guys need help with anything? I'd be happy to help. It's the least I can do.

≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Winslow Liana Swanson District Eleven ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ I giggled at Blake's silly question. "Of course I have to pick my own apples! We'll just do it together. It won't be as boring! I said with a large smile, plucking a rather juicy looking apple from the tree. And of course, I was right about it being more fun with a friend, for we had both of our bags full in less than an hour. My sister didn't bother me very much, seeing as I was hard away at work.
Once our bags were full, Dwight asked if we needed any more help before he had to hand in his apples. "My bag's all full. I'll go with you!" I said excitedly, looking at my sister for a sign of approval, which she reluctantly gave with a small nod. She annoyed me a little about being so bossy, but I didn't really mind that much. I knew she was just making sure that I would be safe. ≎≎≎Mood: Excited≎≎≎Location: Orchards/ Rielle & Blake≎≎≎Inventory:Basket of Apples≎≎≎

District 11 ☮ Blake Erin Chamberlain ☮ "Okay. Great, let's go!" I say a bit cheerfully. Winslow always had that effect with people. Make them smile at even the most upside down times. I'm glad she acknowledged me today.
We all make our way towards the same Peacekeeper that I had given my apples to. Winslow and I in front, and Rielle a few inches behind us. I don't feel any hostility from her, but I think she hates me. Thinking about this, I lower my head to the ground when we approach the Peacekeeper; Winslow skipping a little bit ahead. I hand him my bag and he checks it. The man nods and lets me know I can go. He does the same to Winslow and Rielle.
I cant look at the older sisters eyes. Perhaps I angered her because her little sister caught my attention. I only grind my teeth with a sad frown on my face. The Swanson sisters are still in front of me, so I do my best to hide it. "Um, Rielle?" I can feel her eyes on me, but I still don't look at her. "I'm sorry for, um. Yeah." I don't quite know what else to say. I've always found Rielle a bit intimidating when it came to her sister.

≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Rielle Irie Swanson District Eleven ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ My eyebrows furrowed in confusion at Blake's apology to me. Had he done something wrong? Had he hurt my sister when I wasn't looking? I felt my eyes snap over to her, doing a quick sweep of her mental and physical state. To me, she looked unharmed and quite happy, and so I began to calm down a little bit. I went back to my original emotion, which was confusion. This little boy was a strange one, that was for sure, but my sister seemed to like his company, so I decided not to question him.
"Um...It's fine, Blake. There's no need to apologize." I said to him, finally turning to look at my sister, who was now tugging on my sleeve. "What is it, Winnie?" I asked her, slightly exasperated. "Can Blake come over for dinner?"She asked me, her eyes filled with hope.
"No, Winslow. You know how mom feels about guests."I told her, hating the fallen expression on her sweet little face. I gave Blake a small apologetic smile, and took Winslow's tiny hand. "Sorry Blake, but our shift is over. I'm sure you'll see each other around."I said, leading my pouting sister towards home. ≎≎≎Mood: Stern, confused≎≎≎Location: Orchards≎≎≎Inventory: Basket≎≎≎

Alex walked in to the orchard. She felt weird because it wasn't even her shift. She saw other kids playing and began to miss her sister again.
