Painite was lurking behind a row of over filled trash cans near a bar. With the weather growing colder, it was less likely for her to find people in the park, or for easy targets to be wandering out alone. When she was feeling lazy and just wanted to spark some fun by hunting an easy target, then, the best place to come would always be the classic.
The bars.
There were many drunk people in Destiny City. She wasn't certain if there were more here than in any other city, percentage speaking, but she did know that there was and always would be someone stumbling out the doors at some time.
This particular bar was small and out of the way, a shop front converted into a dive of sorts, with blackened windows like a tattoo parlor and an unconvincing sign on the front stressing that it was for mature adults only. It promised that all others would be carded, but she never saw anyone standing at the door on the inside. Maybe the bartender did it.
Or maybe no one did, and the sign was just to keep from being shut down. Whatever the case, it was the neighbor of a higher end toy store, where parents who thought their kids were geniuses destined for Harvard or Yale went to buy them pretentious toys they probably cared little about. But then, kids didn't know any better. On the other side was a lawn mower repair store. Never once had she seen it with an open sign hanging on the window, but then, it had to have some business because it did not look abandoned.
No one was coming out from the bar, and Painite was distracted wondering why someone would make a shop like that, but never really have it open, yet somehow make enough money to keep the lights on and the storefront nice. Did anyone have motorless lawnmowers anymore? That was the picture on the logo.

Painite felt and heard the cat before she saw it. She looked down, but quickly saw she hadn't been attacked. Another cat! Was it like the others? Someone she knew being turned into a cat?
Things were getting very weird around here, and it seemed to be out of control. There were so many cats. Not that Painite could really complain about it. For her, it was a dream come true: she loved cats. They were so cute and fluffy, and now some of her own friends were cuddle-able. she imagined it was much worse for them.
But hey, she would help them with their problem if she could, and enjoy it while she could. Simple stuff, that.
Immediately she stooped and picked up the kitten happily, laughing, "you're so cute! Who are you, then?" Not a normal kitten, clearly. She wondered if the fact that this cat looked younger than the others meant she was younger as a person as well. That would limit who it might be, at least out of the people Painite knew.
"And why are you attacking my feet? I'm still a General, you know." Her attempts to hunt a drunk person for energy were completely forgotten. Cats had that effect on her.

Why was she attacking Painite's feet? It was unclear at this moment but the best way to describe it was that she felt compelled to. There seemed to be no reason other than the fact she was there and before she could even think to stop and bound away: she had been scooped up! She wiggled and squirmed immediately, protesting the fact she'd been picked up without any sort of consensual agreement. She felt like she could finally related to Zirconia that day and thinking about it made her settle down momentarily.
"Who are you?" was a question that pierced through the fluffy layer of fur and down into Hypnos' human brain. How did Painite know she not as she seemed? It sure seemed like Painite was one very aware and intelligent lady, on top of being pretty!
"It's Hypnos," she admitted, burying her head into Painite's chest and rubbed affectionately. Big blue eyes slowly looked up at the older woman as her head slowly withdrew from hiding, wide and innocent they looked up at Painite carefully. She really hadn't thought this through all the way, the memory of camp clearly coming into her mind. If she could have frown immensely as a cat she would have.
"I couldn't help it," she admitted. "They looked really fun."
Could you really argue with a kitten's logic? You could, but you'd never win. Kittens were little monsters and all the things they did usually had no ulterior motive other than 'I see it,' or anything along those lines. Little did Hypnos know, she was about to have another of those very moments. The wind had blown gently and it took a second for the kitten to catch sight of the best treasure ever: two fluffy feathers in Painite's hair. She chirped without even meaning to, her paws trying to reach up.
Needless to say, she had practically forgotten that she was sitting in a Negaverse General's arms.

Hypnos? Hypnos... Hypnos. Oh. That young senshi, she remembered clearly, that refused to accept that she and the negaverse and her would have to be enemies. That they could be friends, just because she was a young chibi.
Which was not entirely true. Painite didn't want to be friends. She couldn't hurt the damn girl because she was so relentlessly cute, but she certainly had not wanted to be friends. All that was changing though.
Hypnos was a cat now.
"They are fun," she acknowledged, wiggling her feet. She lifted the kitten closer to her face to investigate. Yes, she discovered, she was even cuter up close then she was at a distance. Her fur was painfully, adorably soft, and she ran her hand over it. When they were cats, she decided, they didn't have to be enemies. This was a strange period and her own people were affected by it.
As Hypnos reached her paws up to try and get her feathers, she felt her heart melt. She was so cute. It was okay that Hypnos forgot she was in the arms of a General: Painite forgot she was holding a senshi.
"You want my feathers huh?" she tilted her head, giving the cat some room to come after the feathers if she wanted to climb on her shoulder.

Painite smiled. Damn cats being so damn cute. It was just not fair. Her weakness was cute things, clearly, and she could not help but chuckle as Hypnos enjoyed the feathers.
The Negaverse General could not stay there all day.
"I mean it," she said, smiling at the kitten. She brought her closer, holding the kitten against her chest and petting her. She sighed. She wasn't going to fight the cat, but she did have to go out there and do her usual work. As much fun as it would be, staying there and playing with the kitten until they both got bored or fell to sleep, there were always other things that needed attending to.
She eventually bent to put the cat down on the floor.
"I'm sorry, kitten. I have to go." She had to remind herself that she had been out here for a purpose. Of course, she would find a different spot to hunt some energy, just so the kitten didn't get involved in anything bad or dangerous. "Do you have some place safe to go home to?"

"Only if you're still a kitty," she said, grinning. She scratched Hypnos' ears one more time, finding herself loathe to leave the kitten. It was not fair, that level of cute. Cats were her greatest weakness, and now her enemies were turning into them. There was no way she would ever be able to win if this kept up.
She smiled, though, and took a step back. She would have to get herself going, or she would literally never leave.
"Stay safe," she said, and she meant it in a strange way. Such was the time she was in: she had to roll with the punches and that meant a strange sort of peace between her and people she would usually have to fight or scare. And took much joy in doing so.
She took a feather from her hairpin and gave it to Hypnos, then teleported away. She wasn't sure how long that thing would stick around, if she powered down or whatever happened, but she hope it would stick around for at least a little while.

General Painite may have been smiling but Hypnos' heart had just sunk. Only if she was a kitty. She could only be friends with Painite if she was a kitty? What sort of cruel twist of fate was this? What had she possibly done to deserve such a thing hit her like a purse full of bricks? The kitten couldn't move, and even when she was put down on the ground she didn't move. Painite's voice seemed to drown away in the background, disappearing into an existence that was similiar to her own. She didn't say anything, she just watched Painite disappear.
"Come back..." she whispered meekly, knowing far too well that Painite wouldn't come back. All that she had to remember Painite was the feather that she had taken from her hairpin and left her. It seemed rather common for Hypnos to end up with feathers from loved ones that hurt her, ones she'd probably never see again. It lingered in her thoughts, taunting her before it started to shift in the breeze. It was getting ready to fly away!
Hypnos attacked it, grabbing hold of the feather in her mouth so it wouldn't get away. Don't go, don't leave me too, her eyes begged. She'd take the feather home and she'd go to sleep. It would only be after she'd fall asleep that the feather would disappear without a trace, just like Painite had.
