Lorne had been taking a brisk autumn walk down the street that morning when the strange events that seemed to plague Destiny City would finally land upon the yellow-eyed boy. He had no way of knowing that this wasn't going to be his usual morning jaunt. For all intents and purposes things seemed to be calm. The streetlamps lit the way, for it was still quite dark, but nothing was out there that would prepare him for what was about to happen to him.
It was then that slowly, ever so slowly, there was a feeling of shrinking. For a brief second he though of Alice. He hadn't watched that movie in forever. it never had been one of his favorites, despite his fondness for Disney movies.
But here he was shrinking. Smaller and smaller until he was about the size of...
A cat!?
At his tiny feet was a puddle from an earlier rain, and looking back up at him in his reflection was a cat. He stared for a moment before the freaking out started.
His fur bristled, his ears went back against his skull and he backed up. Slowly. Then his furry hiney hit the fire hydrant.
"Wh-what just happened!? Why am I!? AUUUUUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"
Lorne let out a cry of confusion and fear that turned into a kitty yowl.
Just what had happened to him?

The little kitten happened to be wobbling down the street when she pictured the heavenly sight of another cat in the distance, just within reach! Although it was still a little difficult to walk on four legs but she was slowly getting used to it as she practiced and the excitement of seeing another cat practically took over any difficulty she may have had, her cat body steering the wheel.
It didn't take too long for her to meet the forlorn cat, parking her derriere right up close to him. She couldn't imagine why this fella had such sad looking yellow eyes that seemed to scream confusion. Her blue eyes looked up at himm trying to meet his yellow with curiosity, and she let out a small mew to signify that she was there.
"What's wrong little kitty?" She pondered without thinking of the reality of the situation: she was no longer a little girl.

Lorne had started looking over himself - fluffy black tail, sharp claws - when the kitten came up to him. Startled, he jumped and landed in the very puddle he'd first spied his new form in.
"A talking cat!?" .. "Wait..I can talk!? ANDHOWAMIACATTOBEGINWITH!?"
Needless to say he was still completely freaking out.

"I'm sorry," she whispered to him as cautiously and politely as she could. She didn't meant to startle him, least of all right into a puddle.
She looked over him carefully when he was in the puddle, shuddering at the thought of ending up in a cold, wet puddle herself. She didn't recognize the differences between forehead star colours but if she had she would have realized this had come as an extra shock to him because he was a civilian and probably had never met a talking cat in his life. She couldn't help but look at his large yellow eyes, noting them to be very cat-like.
"I don't know, but I am in the same..." there was a distinct pause in her thought. "... situation." Unlike Lorne, Hypnos had been used to strange things happening for nearly a year now and being a cat, while it had been quite a shock, was just another one of them. There was a more daunting situation on her hands currently and she felt the need to fix it because it was her fault.
Large, totally unfair kitten eyes looked at Lorne pleadingly. "Please come out of the puddle before you catch a cold." She would feel terribly guilty if not only had she startled him but she had caused him to get sick as well.

"HOWCANYOUBE SO CAAAALM ABOUT IT!?"
Obviously Lorne was still having an all-caps freakout, but he removed himself from the puddle none-the-less, shaking out his back feet comically.
Ugh, no wonder cats didn't enjoy getting wet. It felt icky.

Hypnos had been pretty calm from the start and a lot of it probably had to do with the fact she was only ten years old and this was not the strangest thing to happen to her before by far. Not only that but one of her deeper wishes might very well have been granted today. She adored animals and talking cats were just an every day reality for her. It was likely that she'd dreamed of running around as a cat before, right beside Big Kitty.
Using her front paw to wipe off a few drops of water that fell onto her from Lorne's shake, she thought about it. Her change had been a shock mostly, and that shock had passed for the time being. Right now her biggest concern was helping Lorne, and then finding her way home. The latter of the two definitely seemed the easiest by far. At her current stature she could barely see above a flower and she most definitely could not make out most of the environment.
"This isn't the worst thing to happen to me and I happen I like cats," she purred. "And it could always be worse! We could be mice!" Or youma after a painstaking event involving the misuse of their starseeds. Luckily, this wasn't the case and neither was it on the child's mind.
