It was one of those days where something was bound to happen. Cassiel packed up his travel bag and sealed his shrine, then left out on one of his routine treks into the woods. He went out once in awhile to collect plant information for his botany addiction. Plants were just so fascinating to him! But, not only plants, but any animal that called the forest home as well.
But it was today that he spotted something unique in the trees. He only caught a glimpse of the gold at first, the sunlight reflecting off the feathers of a bird he never seen before. The forest still amazed him. And this bird was certainly amazing... oh how he wanted to touch the feathers, curious about their texture.
Silently he crept forward, his eyes never leaving the creature. He wasn't close enough to tell it was only a mononoke, which would explain the uniqueness of the animal, but that didn't stop his curiosity.
Shifting to crouch behind a bush, as to not startle the bird, he took a moment to rummage around in his bag. He pulled a sketchbook from his satchel and smiled, glad that the bird hadn't yet noticed him. Quickly he started to sketch what he saw, having a rather beautiful painting in mind. But, a person can only crouch for so long before the muscles start to scream in agony. As Cassiel tried to silently shift to a sitting position, he'd snap a branch on the ground.
Cursing under his breath, he looked up, expecting the bird to vanish.

Perenna had been in her bird-form for over a day now; she had been flying from city to city to see if there was anything exciting going on. Overnight, she had been trying to fly back to her home, but was tired and ended up perching on low branch and falling asleep overnight. This morning, she was looking sleepily at the forest, unaware of the person nearby.
She stretched her wings and chirped a little bit. When she heard the snap of a branch, the little bird turned it's body towards the noise and saw the man. He was... purple with interesting ears and hair. Perenna bent down a little closer from her tree branch to take a good look at him. "I've never seen anyone like him before! And look! He's doing something!"
Normally, Perenna would be afraid and just fly away, but her curiosity seemed to be peaked by the man and his notebook. She took off and landed at the top part of his book. Looking down at the paper, she saw that he was trying to paint something... Her, specifically. She looked back up at the man, spread her wings and chirped a little bit. Perenna cocked her head, in kind of like a 'what else can you do' sort of manner.
Perenna wasn't sure if the man knew she was a mononoke, but at the moment, the only thing that her mind was capable of thinking about was the questions that the man and his notebook caused.

Cassiel was quite relieved when the bird didn't fly away. However, he was gasping with the little bird instead, flew to his sketch and made it her new perch. "My, aren't you adorable?" He cooed lightly, not wanting to startle the bird at all. "I am sorry if I startled you, little one." He spoke as he shifted, releasing his leg muscles from their burning position. Instead of squatting, he set himself upon the ground to lean back against a tree trunk. Once he was comfortable, he offered his hand to the little bird.
"Come on little guy. Hop on." he encouraged, showing no sign of ill intentions. Surely the bird would move, right? It was the instance that he touched those golden feathers around her feet that he realized what he had done. "I'm sorry... I should have said girl, hmm? But, I can't turn the pages if you're sitting on them, my shoulder will be a better place to watch." he explained, waiting for the girl to take his hand.
When the bird was moved and situated, he closed the book, only to open it at the beginning. "You wanted to see, didn't you?" He asked, not at all bothered by the fact he was talking to an animal. "Let's start from the beginning, hmm?" He took a quick glance at the bird, offering a friendly smile, before he turned the pages. Page by page he showed the sketches. Most were plants and flowers, going into great detail to show the texture of leaves and petals. Several other sketches contained various bugs, birds, rodents and even large mammals that one could find among the forest. He told a story for each one, explaining what the image was, why he drew it, and when he drew it, before carrying on to the next.
However, the book was still fairly new and soon came to the last used page containing her image. He looked at her, once again smiling as he spoke softly. "And here we are today. I do believe you can recognize this little cutie without my having to tell you."
