Herryk had sworn weeks ago that he would never come to the maul again. Sure, his last experience here hadn't been so bad. After all, it was where he'd met Lattice. Despite that, the bad experiences outweighed the good as far as Herryk was concerned. Still, with a reluctance he forced himself to get over, the draugr found himself in the maul once more. He immediately went to the first store he caught sight of, one that looked like it had all the fancy girl crap that he didn't understand.
Luckily for him, there also seemed to be an abundance of stuffed animals in various shapes and sizes.
The behemoth stood in the middle of the aisle surrounded by glassy-eyed cats and puppies, unicorns and monkeys... the list went on and on. In one giant fist he clutched a pink owl. The fingers of his other hand were wrapped around the neck of a grayish monkey with an enormous pink bow sewn to its head.
Herryk was quiet, his attention moving slowly from the owl to the monkey.
Decisions were hard.

Zurine loved the maul, I mean how could she not? It was the source of the latest fashions, the most sought after accessories and everything else that one could ever want to buy. Everytime she came here there were new things in the stores to fawn over, look at and add to her mental wish list. On top of all that she could even partake in one of her favorite hobbies - people watching, it was amazing what you could see at the maul sometimes and so it was with budding glee that the Ghoul bounded into the maul - nearly crashing into a couple of boils as she did so on accident - and skid to a stop scanning the area.
The first store that drew her attention was justifiably the first one in the area and without much of a second thought she swung into the joint to take a look around. The clothing section was always a lure and she was headed in that direction when she caught sight of something odd in the corner of her eye, pausing she backed up a few steps and took another look.
Odd.
It was odd to find a Boil in a store like this - unless they were being forced - and it was even odder to see one staring at something so ..feminine...as stuffed animals. This was far to much of a curiosity for her to pass up and so without giving the situation any more thought she flounced over. "The bows cute..but the Owl would look far nicer with your skin tone" She stated "Pink and black..really just can beat it for a combination" She didn't really seem to give much thought about whether or not this boil was the type to take such teasing in good nature or not.

It took Herryk a few seconds to realize that the ghoul that had approached was talking to him. When he finally did, it was with a sheepish smile and a chuckle.
"Oh, Herryk is not buying ... these are not for ... Herryk does not ..."
With a swift exhalation, Herryk shook his head and lifted his brows.
"Herryk is trying to buy his ghoulfriend a gift." He raised the stuffed animals, preparing to list the pros and cons of each.
"This owl is nice, but Herryk does not know if Freya likes pink. Herryk knows that Freya likes owls, but a pink owl? Herryk is not so sure. This monkey is very soft and it has a nice color -- dark like Herryk's skin, so maybe it will remind Freya of Herryk?"
He shot the ghoul another glance, brows arching. "Herryk is not sure which to choose."

Zurine was more then just a little bit amused that her remark seemed to fluster the Boil so and she smiled at him as he struggled for the proper answer. When he stated that he was looking for a gift for his ghoulfriend she nodded sagely - the situation made far more sense now then it had a few moments before. Not that she supposed there would be anything wrong with a Boil wanting a pink teddy bear, she herself would find that very endearing, but it would be unusual to say the least.
She listened studiously as he went over his thoughts on each one and eyed the stuffed creatures critically "Well.." She started "Have you ever seen her wear pink, or does she have anything pink in her dorm? You have some good points on the monkey - but do you want her thinking of you as a monkey..with a bow?" she pointed out.

Slowly, as if he were handling a very bitey foxfire, Herryk put that monkey back right where he'd found it. He was no monkey.
And he would certainly never wear a pink bow.
"Herryk has never seen Freya wear pink, but Freya does have a white owl pillow in her room and Freya also has pajama bottoms with owls on them." He would not mention the boil that she knew on groanspring with the owl familiar. That would just ...annoy him, and Herryk did not want to be annoyed in the presence of a possible new friend.
"Herryk," he introduced himself, placing his now empty hand against his chest. "And thank you for helping." He'd never seen the ghoul around, he mused, so she must be new. He would know soon enough.
"New to school?"

Zurine bit her lip as she watched the way the boil set down the monkey. She supposed that he must not like the thought of being thought a money, of course looking at him Zurine didn't think she could really blame him - i mean what sort of Boil wanted to be thought of as a monkey? And Herryk as he introduced himself did not look very monkeyish to Zurine.
"I am new" She confirmed with a slight nod of her head that made her ers bounce a little bit "It's a pleasure to meet you Herryk, I'm Zurine" She introduced herself although her eyes had already trailed back to the stuffed animals "Perhaps they have the owl in a different color then?" She suggested, if he had never seen her wear or own anything pink then it was likely she didn't really like the color. Pink was just one of those things you either loved or hated in Zurine's experience. "Maybe black or grey..owls I think are a far better creature to be thought of then a monkey" She added, letting her eyes scour the shelves.

If Herryk had been by himself, he would have bought the garishly bright pink owl after debating between owl or monkey. He was certainly glad that he was not alone. A nice ghoul had taken pity on him, and for that Herryk would be forever grateful.
Herryk placed that pink owl back on the shelf.
"Zurine," Herryk repeated her name with a smile. "Herryk is pleased to meet a new student. It was not so long ago that Herryk himself was new." He turned back to the endless mountain of bug-eyed stuffed animals, bracing his hands on his hips as he browsed through the various owls that were in an array of colors.
"This one," he boomed with pleasure, pulling forth a pale white owl with blue eyes. "Herryk has blue eyes, Freya has blue eyes, and this owl has blue eyes."

"Oh, I bet you did better on your first day then I did" She told him with a smile "I managed to get myself kicked out of my very first class by accident" she told him "I was late because I got lost in the monster dorm hallways..that place is like a maze really" She shred with him as they browsed through the stuffed animals. She almost jumped a bit when Herryk suddenly boomed out his decision. Well his voice certainly matched the rest of him now didn't it? Big.
Laughing at her own jumpiness she clapped him on the back happily "See! You know the perfect one when you spot it!" She told him with a nod "That's my whole method picking the perfect gift" she told him with a smile "When you pick it up and it's automatically perfect then thats the one to get..if you have to quibble over it and can't decide then it's not perfect. I'm sure she'll love it."

Herryk grinned at Zurine. "Ahh, classes. Herryk took a class." That grin that was on his face melted as he remembered the dust bunnies making an attempt on the lives of his foxfires. "Be careful in classes, Zurine," Herryk warned, "and do not ever go on a field trip." He shook his head, trying to smile again since the conversation had taken a more morbid turn. Herryk glanced back at the owls, glancing at the grayish owl he held in one fist. He glanced up once more at the pink owl, and after a long glare at the terrible looking thing, Herryk reached up to grab it again. "Herryk will buy both," he grunted, giving Zurine another smile. He shrugged. "Better to be safe than sorry, after all, hmm?" "Herryk thanks Zurine for her help! As repayment, Herryk will take Zurine for lunch if she is willing? If Zurine has any questions about school, Herryk is happy to help." He figured the ghoul might like food. Freya certainly did.

Zurine was a little bit confused by Herryk's advice, perhaps he had simply had some bad experiences? Nothing terrible had happened in the class she had attempted to join - well at least nothing bad had happened that she was aware of, she had been kicked out so it was hard to say what had gone off afterwards. It had seemed pretty harmless though I mean how many bad things could happen in an acting class asides from perhaps being made to do a few foolish exercises? And weren't field trips supposed to be fun? She was rather looking forward to them.
But she was sure that Herryk's advice was well intentioned so she smiled and nodded "I'll keep that in mind" She promised him, somewhat amused when he then second guessed himself once more and picked up the pink owl again 'Well...I've never met anyone who complained about getting two gifts instead of one" She stated with a slight laugh.
"I would love to grab something to eat" She replied, pleased with the invite - she could always return to the store afterwards to do her own shopping and making new fiends always trumped shopping in the long run anyways 'Is there a good place to eat here in the Maul?"

Herryk chuckled and nodded, gesturing with a dip of his head that they should move to the register.
"Let Herryk think. There are many places to eat in the maul. Uhhm.. Taco Skull if Zurine wants what is called 'mexican' and there is AFC is Zurine wants this chicken, there is Stubway for sandwiches and Pumpkin King for burgers. There are many options. Whatever sounds appetizing for Zurine." He smiled at the ghoul as he stepped up to the register, slapping the owls down on the counter with a few seeds to match.
"Herryk does not eat so whatever Zurine is feeling like is where Herryk will take Zurine." He accepted the bag that contained the owls from the cashier before glancing at Zurine inquisitively.

Following Herryk to the register she pondered the choices he mentioned while he paid for the two owls, which were stupidly cute as far as she was concerned with their big bug eyes and all. She was about to tell him that he could choose but his next comment caught her off guard and she returned his inquisitive look with one of her own as they left the store.
"You don't eat?" She questioned after a few moments, eyeing his large form speculatively - it was hard to believe that someone so robust didn't eat something at the very least, then gain she had heart of such people before..she'd always just assumed that they would be small and wispy in accordance with her mental picture of a non-eating creature. See where assumptions will get you? And now afraid that she might have offended Herryk - and he really did seem like a nice sort so that wasn't something she wanted to do - She hurried to add "It's just that your so large really" Well cripes maybe he was sensitive about his size! Best to just pick a place to eat Zurine she mentally scolded herself. "That Taco Skull place would be fine" She stated, naming the first place she recalled him offering.

Herryk lifted a brow and glanced down at Zurine.
"Herryk is undead," he said simply with a heft of his shoulders. "Herryk does not need to eat, nor does Herryk need to sleep. Herryk does need rest at times because his body tires, but sleep is not necessary for Herryk." He grinned when she mentioned his size. It was obvious by the grin that he took great pride in his large form.
"Herryk has been told that he is a draugr. An... ah, an undead viking." He shrugged. "Just like other undead, Herryk cannot remember his past." The draugr clutched the plastic bag in one huge fist while escorting Zurine a few shops down. "Taco place is here," he indicated with a hand, opening the door for her out of habit. Once she made it through the door, Herryk would follow her in.

Well..she hadn't known that about the undead, then again she hadn't met many of them other then in passing and back home she'd mostly associated with her family and other padfeet in the area. Well you learn something new everyday, wasn't that how the saying went? At least he hadn't seemed offended by her clueless comments. "Do you get bored when others are off sleeping then?" She asked him, heck she got bored when there was nothing going on and she did need to sleep...imagine how bored she would get if she had to spent all her time awake. Then again..that could lead to some pretty epic parties.
"In any case I expect the future is far more important then the past" She told him with a smile, mentally filing away the explanation of draugr for future reference. Accepting his gentlemanly act with a smile Zurine entered the opened door and proceeded to take a place in line before turning back to Herryk "So you have any other tips for a new student t the school?" She asked him brightly "I'm afraid i'm still just having trouble finding my way around half the time"

Herryk looked thoughtful as he stepped into line behind Zurine.
"If Zurine does go on a field trip, try and make friends with year two students." He nodded. "They are stronger than we are and more experienced. Zurine should try and battle so that she can grow stronger -- Herryk could suggest a few ghouls for Zurine to look up if Zurine likes?" Lattice immediately came to mind. Even Freya would be a strong opponent.
"It is a big school," Herryk added a moment before it was their turn up at the register.
"Zurine can order whatever she likes." The draugr gave Zurine a smile.
